Whenever I visit the tri-state area, I naturally crave pizza and bagels -- no doubt they're the best here. However, I've developed gluten intolerance and it's hard to find places that offer options that accommodate celiac and gluten sensitive folks. I found that Surfside offered gluten free bagels and wanted to give a pork roll, egg, and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup. I was worried they wouldn't have any since I came late into off-season, but luckily they had plain and everything as bagel options. We took two orders of PREC w/ SPK - one on a GF everything bagel, one on a GF plain bagel. The GF bagels tasted almost like sandwich buns, but overall the breakfast bagel hit the spot without causing any terrible reactions. The everything bagel's seasoning definitely made it more subtle of the fact that it was gluten free. There's no seating at this place so it's more grab and go. They also offer coffee but I didn't opt for any. What's nice about the inside are the cool gift items they offer as well as the literal surf shop ambiance -- felt almost as if you were inside a shop in Hawaii. Price is premium in general on the island. There was a $4 upcharge for gluten free bagels so altogether we paid an extra $8. Total was around $25, but again during off season, we feel for the business as things start to slow down. Happy to support island businesses as long as the service is friendly and the food is great! Will give Surfside another chance next summer! read more

Kids ran over here to grab some lunch the other day and we got coffee another day so this is a two-fer review. So I'll start with prices...I know most things on LBI are pricier than back north, but they are certainly up charging for convenience. Coffee is expensive and was just average...not bad, but it didn't wow me. My kids went there for lunch - a Cobb Salad with chicken and a chicken Caesar wrap and it was over $30. They both really enjoyed the meals, but this was a bit much. As I said, the food was white tasty and the service was fine, but just expect high prices...oh, and bring cash because they don't take cards. read more

Weak. Prices are high, there is no indoor or outdoor seating. How is that possible? $5.50 for a basic breakfast sandwich, we paid $18.50 for two sandwiches, one coffee, and a cooler drink. $18.50 for breakfast that we had to eat in the car!! We could have gone to a full service restaurant for that. My husband said his coffee was nothing special. Got the shot in the dark but said a Dunkin turbo shot is stronger than the espresso shot he got here. I asked for my bagel toasted but it wasn't. I knew that it wasn't going to be toasted, because I watched them toast English muffins for the people behind us, but my bagel never touched the toaster. The cheese wasn't melted and the sandwich was dry. It's off season now, I don't know how this place stays in business. I can't imagine locals pay these prices for inferior quality. There are other spots still open that are much better than Surfside. read more

Love that they have so many gluten free options. I got the surf side without cheese on an everything gluten free bagel. It was delicious! All the meats were incredible and the bagel was great for gluten free. I also got a latte with oat milk, the espresso tasted a bit burnt, but it was okay. The staff is incredible and friendly! I will never go to Surfside coffee house again. I walk in at a very busy time of the day, all employees and customers are wearing masks, as instructed by this sign on their window, except two people. One man and one women. The man continually goes from the back of the store to the front around all the food and kitchen and is not wearing any mask or any face covering. When confronted to put a mask on, he says "this is my store and your opinion does not matter to me". What blatant disregard for peoples well being and state orders. As a nurse who worked with covid patients for months, I truly hope this man never experience what I experienced with dealing with this pandemic. I encourage you to report this business, we need to keep COVID under control and this is now how we do it. At Surfside they "take pride in" their high prices. At $5.80 (!) for a nitro cold brew, I told the cashier they may be the most expensive on the island - to which she snidely derided, "we take pride in that." Maybe if the coffee had some flavor it would have been worth half that. read more

A little place for "breakfast on the beach" - for what it is, it's great. Relatively affordable: breakfast sandwich, espresso, scramble bowl w/ veggies - $18-ish. Fast service, good selection of coffee, and best of all they do have GF bagels. Good start. May I also suggest some GF bread?? (Keeps well in the freezer, just saying). It's a bit tight inside, and only a few barstools outside - do not plan to stay for dine-in. And as always on the beach: no shirt, no shoes?? Not a problem. read more

Found this place the last 3 days of our 2 week vacation and we were BUMMED that we didn't find it sooner. This coffee house has WAY more than coffee. You can buy your coconut water, fresh beet juice, aloe drinks, GF snacks AND a sandwich called "the double bypass" porkroll, bacon, eggs, cheese so EVERYONE can leave happy! The fresh juice bar is so delicious & reasonably priced for what it is. *TIP* Buy the 32 ounce mason jar full of the juice of your choice at the beginning of your stay, it will cost your an extra $3 initially but then bring it back every time and you can get so much more juice for your money (and it'll last longer)! Note: it gets very busy so expect a wait during typical rush times (morning for coffee obviously) but that's because they make all their food, juice, and coffee drinks fresh. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 4/5 stars is because the wait times can get long but the staff is very friendly and on their game so if you want to find your new favorite place on LBI for breakfast and lunch try it out!!!! *CASH ONLY* $$$$$$$$ they do have an ATM machine inside read more

CASH ONLY. I like the vibe of this place, few spots to sit inside, few to sit outside. Prices are what you would expect for an island restaurant. They have options for everyone- healthy or not. If you're a fan of playa bowls they make them here and the banana whip was an amazing cold treat that's healthy-ish. It's a must-try! Got a bagel with THEC (see picture.) They use thick pork roll (typing that was hard because I live in NoJerz) and are fast with making breakfast sandwiches. Regular coffee is self-serve. They do make espresso and different frozen blended coffees and such. I liked that they were open even pre-season whereas Bagels and Beyond was not. I'll be back to try their Turmeric Steamer! There needs to be an adult in the room. I told the worker while waiting for my food that the 4 young adults also waiting needed to have on face-masks or coverings if they were going to be inside. She just shook her head at me and the kids laughed. I left and waited outside for my food. When I came back in I said something again to another worker after the young adults had left and she apologized and said that they do require them. At that very moment another worker came out of the back area not wearing a mask. This place isn't safe and the workers don't seems to care. I really WANTED to be a fan of this place. A month or two I tried to stop in but they were closed at 2 with the door locked, open signs still on. Next I stopped in a few weeks ago to check out their gluten-free selection. I was craving donuts so I got one of their powdered ones - $3+ for a rock hard donut that was tiny enough rest inside the palm of my hand. The flavor was good but the texture was just wrong, even for what you would expect from gluten free. I went again today because I wanted to try their coffee and give their GF bagels a try. The only reason I am giving this place stars is because the young man who took my order was very kind and polite, but he was the ONLY one giving a crap out of the 5+ employees in the store. He took my order, made my drink, and then my bagel while two girls leaned on the counter and stared blankly at the wall. So, service was a mixed bag. As for the food and drink? I got an iced voodoo spiced chai which was decent, aside from some chunks of what I'm assuming is powdered mix. They serve all their drinks in foam cups which is just a little weird to me personally. The bagel on the other hand was worse than what I can buy frozen from the grocery store, and the cream cheese was missing from several parts of the bagel. Overall this wouldn't have been too terrible if I had not waited 10 minutes as the ONLY customer in the store for one drink and one bagel. I think they're just lacking some heart and soul and some good management in this place. Sure, it's a tough year for everyone but putting a little bit of effort into quality control and enthusiasm goes a long way. I hope they can get their act together. This spot sits along Long Beach Blvd in Surf City 1 block from the beach and was down the street from the house we rented. Not only does it serve delicious New York style breakfast sandwiches on a roll, but tasty coffee and even various juices and smoothies. Every day they have new specials and with all the choices for breakfast in this area, it may be hard to choose. The good news is this place is fast, reasonably priced and has some very good creative selections. Place gets pretty crowded and since it is on the way to the beach, seems the place people go to grab morning coffee and sandwiches. Plus they serve all sorts of donuts and cinnamon crumb cake etc. Plus they have all sorts of good stuff like coconut water and snacks etc. Loved it! I was very disappointed when I walked into a coffee shop that advertised their breakfast sandwiches at 10am and they only had pumpernickel and wheat bagels left, not even plain! If you are going to advertise your breakfast sandwiches then at 10am you should not be out of bagels! Especially when you are in easy reach of a grocery store/market for back up. I ended up getting the breakfast burrito, which was delicious but I just found it odd that at 10am you are out of what you advertise. read more

I was really excited to find a place that offered gluten free alternatives. I orders a breakfast sandwich on a gluten free bagel, which might as well have been a lame soggy excuse for bread. They said they would toast the bagel since they are stored in the freezer, however it was clear they did not toast it long enough. And the sandwich was a puck of unflavored hash browns covered with hardly any, extremely thin microwaved bacon and cheese that wasn't even melted! The other sandwich while it did have a large portion of turkey had only a couple soggy leafs of lettuce and a drop of dressing. The egg bagel was quite chewy. The only thing there that seemed like it would taste good was the prepackaged food from known brands they had. Also they had a lot of different coffee although I didn't try it. In the end I should have just eaten the $15 I paid, it probably would have tasted better. read more

Been going to this place for years on summer weekends.. Most excellent breakfast on the island I love the dash of hash more so the name. I have been there twice and both experiences were great. I am gluten free and they are very knowledgeable and take extra care when preparing my food.
