I'm a little in awe of the fact that I, a woman obsessed with muscadine wine, have been coming to North Myrtle Beach for over 30 years and have just now experienced Duplin Winery for the first time. What a magical place! The space is relatively large. Inside there's a shop where you can pop in and pick up some bottles of wine, local gifts, etc. Outside there is plentiful seating stretching over several decks, a fire pit, gorgeous trees, etc. There are also a number of bars throughout the venue -- both inside and out. For $15 per person, you can do a wine tasting at one of the bars with a small group of about 15-20 people. You taste 10 wines, I believe, and rank them. The cost of the wine tasting also allows you to get a complimentary $5 glass of wine to enjoy on the property after your tasting. A highlight of the tasting is the cheese dip and pita crackers that are served. I believe the dip is one of the in-house salsas mixed with cream cheese...but whatever it is, it's absolutely delicious. The thing I love about the tasting is that it allows anyone who isn't too familiar with muscadine wines to experience the range these amazing grapes offer. Yes, they can tend to be a bit sweeter in a general sense, but not always. Do the tasting. Eat the yummy cream cheese dip. Explore. Experience. You may be surprised. My friends and I absolutely loved this place. We did the wine tasting to where you taste 10-12 different types of wine with some crackers on the side as well. You would also have a choice to have a complementary glass of wine of your choice outside. Unfortunately, a bunch of showers came through while we were there. We came here on a Saturday afternoon while visiting the area. I have been to the rose hill one but not this location. This place was huge and busy. We only had a 5 minute wait for the tasting so we just browsed around the store to check it out. It was nicely decorated for the Christmas holiday. Our tasting room was full and we sampled 10 wines and had homemade cheese dip which was good and crackers. The crackers were on the hard side so didn't like that part but other than that the tasting went really well and I enjoyed it. Afterwards we used our drink ticket to get a glass of wine and sat on the patio to enjoy the weather and view. I definitely would return back here again. Wine tasting is fun ! read more

We stopped in here after having lunch and shopping at Barefoot Landing (just a block down the street). 4 stars for the fun experience. The wine here tends to be super sweet, it's pretty affordable though if you find something that tickles your fancy. We did the tasting which was worth the experience for sure. Definitely found that I didn't care for that many of the wines, but the wine slushies at the end were fantastic. I kind of regret not picking up the mixes to make them! Such a great summer (or anytime it's hot, so October too!) treat. The inside of this place is a giant gift shop and wine store basically. Huge back patio, mostly pub height seating (hate that), but we found a couple Adirondack chairs way down at street level around a fire pit that were great. I was super surprised at how packed this place was on a random Monday afternoon in October - absolutely slammed. My mom loves to visit Duplin and will bring me along anytime I'm in town. Because they use predominantly muscadine and scuppernong grapes they lean towards the sweeter side but they have a variety of red and white wines available. First, you must like sweet muscadine but that being said we knew that going in. The real issue was I came with friends and since I was driving and my wife does should not drink much we decided not to do two full tastings. They said we could not split a tasting, later to hear it stated as South Carolina. Certainly not true in any other state we have visited, so blame that on SC. They told us we could sit with our friends at the tasting bar and made a reservation for three tasting and two non tasters, but when we got called to the bar they said we could not sit at the bar and enjoy the flight while our other friends did a tasting. That one the tasting started, we could not drink our flight. We were not doing a tasting but claimed it was "double dipping", even though we were not doing a tasting. So we were relinquished to standing aside or sit outside next to the highway. Let's just say, not at all what I expected. The staff were very nice. And I spoke to the manager to give him a chance to read my review before posting. Other than reinforcing that it was policy and he needed to clarify with staff, he politely apologized. I would not recommend this place for a group or serious wine connoisseur. read more

We went here for a wine tasting since we were in the area. You walk in and pay for the wine tasting. I believe they do one every 30min or every hour. They have about 5 tasting rooms which can hold up to 20 people. You pay and the lm wait until your group is called. They have a gift shop for you to browse or you can sit outside. They had live music playing went we went. Once our tasting began we had Ms Carolyn who was great at explaining the wine and she kept us entertained. They gave you cheese and crackers for you to nibble on between wine tastings. We sampled about 8-10 wines. And when the tasting is over they give you a ticket for you to get a glass of one of the wines you sampled. They gave you a souvenir glass to take home with your tasting. They have outdoor seating for you to enjoy your glass, but they have fire pits and heat lamps outside when it's chilly out. This is a nice spot to hang and socialize if you are in the area. There is parking for this location. We sampled many sweet wines and they were good. read more

We also got to hand-bottle our own keepsake bottle of wine. Our tour guide Joey did an excellent job and was very knowledgeable. Afterwards we did the wine tasting. I LOVE this place. Every vacation, I come here at least once, sometimes three times. They have a huge indoor store. Wine tastings. Outdoor seating with live music. They serve glasses of wine for $5 and frozen wine drinks for $6. All the employees are very friendly. It's a blast. Sigh...what to say. $12 for 8 wines (all on the sweeter side) a bonus seasonal wine slushie & mulled wine, gourmet cheese, and homemade crackers, and a glass of wine after the tasting. Let me start by disclosing, we are NOT sweet wine drinkers- we ended up at the winery because our hotel gifted us a tasting voucher for two-we knew going in we would have a meh experience, but overall it was a bit more 'meh' than we expected. When we arrived, we were told anyone under 21 was not allowed at the tasting bar...we had our baby sleeping in the car seat in tow. We tried to get creative by asking them if we could sit at the bar, and put her behind us at the back table or nearby in the store..but were told no. The hosted told us one of us would be able to join the current tour at the bar while the other had to wait outside or in the car with the baby. Then the other could come in to do the tasting. This felt especially awkward since the tasting would come with a free glass of wine-I didn't want to sit alone rotating, but our tickets were already paid for so we had to make it work. During my tasting, the wine pourer was very nice, quickly pouring our group through while still providing some wine knowledge. The cheese and crackers were quite yummy. The wine wasn't my style, even wines categorized as 'dry' were sweet with high sugar and high alcohol content. I ended up skipping the sparkling wine, cotton candy, and slushie. For sweet wine drinkers, I could see the appeal, they did have a variety of flavors with different profiles. Once I finished my tasting, we were dismayed to discover the next 'tasting tour' wouldn't be for 20 minutes, so we had to hang around waiting for my husband to go..during this time, many of the winery workers kept asking us why we were tasting separately..um because you made us. Only to find out basically anyone except the host was willing to have been creative helping us to put the baby not in the bar but nearby so we could have gone together...didn't help us make the experience shorter or better at that point. Also, though the set up was similar, my husband had a far different tasting experience with bigger pours, more wine knowledge, and some varying bonus wines..not fair. We were able to bring baby out on the patio so we could drink our full glasses together. The patio was quite beautiful with large trees, nice décor, and low-key music playing, but enjoying the patio couldn't really save the meh and timely tasting experience. Even worse to see that after us they let a different parent do her tasting with the baby outside the bar area -.- So I'm not knocking the winery stars for the fact I don't drink sweet wine, it's mainly because the winery just didn't give off a 'welcome tourist' vibe. They like their local wine club members and made sure they had great experiences. I also forgot to show the bartender I completed the survey for my free gift. I've been wanting to come to Duplin ever since it opened and finally had the chance to do a tasting on my birthday! Cathy, our bartender, was amazing. She explained the history of the winery, what to expect from each of the 10 wines we tasted and made recommendations. The homemade crackers and cheese dip that's included in the tasting is amazing! And you can buy some in the huge store that's there. You can also bring your own food, they have live music outside and the tasting also includes a free glass of whichever wine you liked best from the tasting. My husband, his grandmother and I stopped in during our latest trip to visit his grandparents after his grandmother raved about this place. It was a really fun atmosphere and only $10 pp for the wine tasting- which does fill up pretty quickly but they offer the tasting often. For this price we tried about 8-10 wines, there are all on the sweeter side for the most part. And there was a dip and some cracker too. Ours that day was some mango type dip and wasn't really my taste. The only thing I can say is we wish that they gave us more information about the wine other than how sweet they were and the alcohol percentage. But overall, it was fun and they all were pretty good. Our favorite was the wine slushie- and MAN it is dangerous. You do not even taste the alcohol! After the tasting they gave you a ticket for a full size drink of your choice- my husband and I each chose to get a full size wine slushie and did not regret it! They have many many flavors. And we were able to take it out onto the deck out back and listen to some live music while enjoying our drinks. It was a pretty good time! I'd go back. read more

They have Wines I don't normally see in my local Liquor Store, so I could not wait to buy all the ones I never seen before. They have a Cotton Candy one that they were out of for 2 days, but I will be back to get it before I leave. They have a cute general store with a little bit of everything like Fudge, gifts, wine accessories, T-Shirts and more. I didn't do the tasting room, but maybe next time. Me and my partner planned a surprise weekend in Myrtle Beach for my best friend's birthday. Her husband wanted this to be a surprise. I avoided phone conversations and texts for weeks to avoid me spoiling the surprise. I flew in from TX and we purposely arrived after their wine tasting session at Duplins'. We decided to get wine flights with cheese and crackers and sit on the porch or the winery. Ohhh was the wine flights and the cheese and crackers sooooo dang good. After my bff came out of the wine tasting, she almost walked past me. She did a double take, we both screamed and hugged each other for a long time. The winery was so nice. We also sampled flavored margaritas. The inside of Duplins Winery has a variety of things outside of wine for purchase. We ended up buying a case of Cotton Candy wine and other stuff. So, we got the wine and cheese flights. My friend has Celiac so they accommodated her with gluten free crackers. The cheese was great with the wines. My personal favorites are Carolina Red & Hatteras Red but we tried several more and liked most. My biggest problem was how busy it was & how there were no seats & we had to wait for a group to leave. This winery specializes in sweet and semi sweet wines. We didn't stay because we prefer dry wine. However the staff was super friendly and helpful. The outdoor patios with firepits are adorable and the wine shop has plenty of adorable and whimsical items for sale.
