I visited Duplin Winery on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. We purchased the deluxe tasting which included 10 tastings, crackers and cheese, and tickets for a full glass or wine or a wine slushee after the tasting for $10. When we purchased the tickets they didn't tell us it included the drinks afterwards. They told us it would be about an hour wait so we ended up getting a slushee while waiting and when we paid the cashier told us that if we came after the tasting we could've gotten the slushee for free. I don't believe it took a full hour for the tasting but they called for our group to sit at the bar. The cheese dip we received with the crackers was very delicious and it's made by them. The pour servings were very small. It's definitely just a tasting but for the price it isn't bad. The lady conducting our tasting was very friendly and provided some good educational facts. She provided information for their membership which seems to be beneficial if you live in South Carolina. She didn't discuss the price though. read more

Whenever I vacation or travel for leisure, I always make it a point to find a local winery and go wine tasting. We actually stumbled upon this location in search for a shopping center. When we pulled in parking lot was full and we thought we would have to come back later. They offer wine tastings every 15 minutes and have a shopping area with various trinkets. You can choose between the $5 or $10 wine tasting options. Honestly, the $5 tasting option is plenty as they provide the crackers to cleanse your pallet. The bartender for our group, Jeff, was very knowledgeable of the different wines and did very well interacting with the group. We sampled 10 different muscadine wines with the last option being a frozen wine. We were given a wine list to help keep track of the samples and to mark whether we liked or disliked them. After the tasting they had sitting area throughout the build and outside to sit and casually drink wine. This would be a great place for small groups to gather, drink wine, talk and have fun. Very well organized wine tasting! When you first get in you will pay for the type of wine tasting you want which is either classic or deluxe. The deluxe is totally worth it because you get an extra glass of your favorite wine or can get a wine slushy and an awesome cream cheese dip to go with your chips! Great for groups! They can hold about 20 people in each tasting room. While I was there one group was celebrating a birthday and there was a family with a kid. They actually did a real good job making the child feel included in a room full of drinking adults and gave him some food to snack on and sparkling grape juice. Their wines are your typical type of beach wine. Very sweet and fruity. My favorites was the Rosé usually it is not part of the tasting by because it was someone's birthday we got to try it! The store is very cute also you'll want to buy everything there after a few drinks. And they have events going on often like live music! read more

Coming from the northeast, I found this place to be extremely reasonable and enjoyable. The tasting was cheap and came with more than any tasting I've experienced, and the wine was delicious for the most part. They occur in decorated rooms; ours was a bar. Then, we chose a wine to get a full glass of (included in the tasting!). I also had the praline fudge. Again, price was cheap but the quality was not. It was delicious! They had live music on the patio. It was difficult to find an open seat, but a stranger welcomed us and we all had a nice time talking. Cool venue, but all the wines are far too sweet. Granted, I'm from VA where sweet wines have only 6% sugar. Every wine they sell here has 10%+ sugar. It's kind of like drinking Welch's grape juice, with a slight taste of alcohol. Not for me. But they all taste the same. No deep reds, no chardonnay, all blends. I live in Charlotte, NC and I was first introduced to Duplin Wines at my first Southern Women's Christmas Show held at the Park Expo Center. I sampled the wines there and have been going every year for several years to sample and purchase wine for my home and gifts for friends and family. Imagine my shock and delight to see the Winery right there in Myrtle Beach while on vacation. My daughter and I decided to stop and take the tour. There is plenty of parking and the entrance is just a few feet away. When you enter, you step inside a large country style store where you can purchase a wide variety of Duplin products. If you need wine, bottle openers, jewelry, aprons, coasters, or socks, you can get it here. You have the option of doing a wine tasting at their bar with a bartender who will explain all that you need to know about the wines you are sampling. The tasting's vary in price but none are expensive. We elected to go with the $10 per person tasting and for that you get to sample many wines, plus you get cheese and crackers to eat while sampling. The price also includes a wine glass and coaster souvenir to take home. The tasting enabled us to try new wines that are not yet available elsewhere along with some of their best sellers. Our bartender was funny and knowledgeable. He answered all questions and kept things moving along at a good pace. Side note: When you attend the Christmas show in Charlotte, Duplin also brings special wines each year that are not typically available in the area. After the tasting was done most people headed outside to the patio where you were served more wine and could enjoy life entertainment. The keyboardist was playing contemporary music and engaging the audience. It was a nice sunny day with a slight breeze so most people were in good spirits and we did not feel rushed in any way. Before leaving, we went back inside to the large gift shop and purchased a few bottles of wine, some cider, and frozen drink mixes. If you are looking for a good way to spend 1-2 hours when in the area be sure to stop into Duplin Winery as they will make you feel right at home. We got the groupon deal for the $10/person experience. They got 3 stars because our guy Rich was awesome! He entertains, informs and is just so fun! The wines are insanely sweet. I'm no beginner to wines and I wish I knew that this winery was specializing I sweet to make-you-giddy sweet wines. One person in our party loved sweet wines and was new to wine drinking and seemed to like the experience. Once I sat down and was informed that everything coming my way was a sugar fest, I prepped myself to dessert wines. My problem with this experience was- they gave us sweet after sweet with no taste breakers. There are 10 wines and maybe 1dry but sweet red. Your palate doesn't get a chance to shift at all. To make it worse, the crackers and cheese that come have sweetened cream cheese. I'd have appreciated the wine a lot more if they had a cheese plate that actually had salty cheese (like most wineries across the country). I've had plenty of dessert wines in the past to have appreciation for sweet wines but this wasn't it for us. read more

We decided to visit on a colder Spring break day and enjoyed Wes, but were saddened to encounter manager Mary after discovering that the plastic wine slushee cup was not very sturdy. She was rude when I requested to upgrade to the nicer cup. I offered to pay the difference and was my sweetest self in my request. She was the opposite of their sweet wine: sour. It made me unlikely to recommend the wine slushee souvenirs to my friends. read more

I don't drink wine. I don't like it. It's either too dry and harsh and I wonder how somebody could make grapes taste bad or its like drinking a melted lollipop in a fancy glass. It took a girl to get me here. Girls can do that, you know. Make dudes do stuff they wouldn't do on their own or be caught dead doing. Duplin says, "Sweeten your day with a wine tasting." I can get behind that kind of logic. I think we can all stand to be a little sweeter. If drinking wine, I mean "tasting" wine gets me to sweet, then pour away. I'll try it. Hell, I've drank things that would scour the paint off my car and I've drank things that were actually on fire, so a little cutesy, pink wine from a bottle with cavorting penguins on it, seems like a really easy way to be just a little sweeter. The cavorting penguins wine is called Muscadine Kisses and I ranked it fairly high on the scorecard I was keeping. My ranking system wasn't all that sophisticated though--basically it ranged from Spit It Out to Wow, I Want To Kiss You Right Now, with maybe some of them in between. Sweet Lily, Christmas Red, and the aforementioned Muscadine Kisses ranked highest. Summertime Strut and Coastal Shag ranked lowest on my scorecard--I think because those two were dry wines, which is sort of like leaching all the fun out of a grape and making it somehow more dour, adult-like, and unkissable. I think I'm going to associate wine tasting with kisses from pretty much here on out. Our wine presenter was a clown college graduate. He said he missed clowing terribly. That's another whole sub-genre of folks I'll have to study up on before venturing an opinion on. My frame of reference for clowns starts with IT and ends with the Insane Clown Posse. He had his wine tasting patter down though and moved us right on through all 10 wines. There was live music on the patio and that's where we enjoyed our free glass of wine. The winery is absolutely beautiful. I have been twice at different times of the season. The staff is always friendly. On Tuesday April 5th we were there for the tasting. This is in response to Paul L. Those 12 people sitting at the tables with same number of chairs are all club members, who support Duplin year round, not just 1-2 weeks a year. Most have 2 memberships. Most purchase glasses, bottles of wine. All tip the bartenders and musicians. They, like you, go for the wine, music and friendship, whether they are there 1 hr or 5 hrs should be none of your concern. I didn't note you complaining about the lack of seats down by the fire or on the front porch, so my guess is that you wanted to enjoy the music as much as they did. In the future, instead of complaining, why not stop by and say hello, they are the most welcoming group at Duplin and would have helped you find a seat as well as share their snacks!!! read more

Husband and I went there today for his birthday. From the time we hit the door until the time we left, everyone there spoke to us and was friendly. We got there before a wine tasting and decided to eat at the Bistro. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was really good. Next was the wine tasting and the man who conducted it was friendly and informative. Without going to it, I would have never known that muscadine wine had seven times as much resveratrol in it as grape wine. The tasting went really well and we couldn't have been happier. I loved how we sat in a "bar" comfortably while the "bartender" introduced us the different wines from white to pink to red and ending with a slushie wine! Amazing ! Started off the tasting from less RS to more RS and definitely loved ending with the wine slushie. Since it was such a hot day I ended up with a glass of their slushie and enjoyed the live band outside. I always try to hit up local breweries or wineries in new cities, and Duplin was such a fun little find! For $10 you get 10 wine tastings (don't be fooled - these are not generous pours), a glass of your favorite wine from the tasting, a souvenir wine glass to take home, and a sample of their delicious cheese spread. No-brainer, right? We had about a 15-minute wait before one of the tasting rooms opened, so we browsed their ADORABLE store to pass the time. They had a ton of fun little knicknacks - mostly wine themed. The gentleman who did our wine tasting was super fun and engaging. He made sure to interact with everyone and made the whole experience exceed our expectations. We unfortunately didn't love any of the wines (too sweet for us), but purchased a couple jars of the pineapple jalapeno salsa to make their cheese spread. When we were checking out, we mentioned to the cashier that we were newlyweds and she asked which of the wines was our favorite (the red sangria). Beautiful new tasting room in North Myrtle. Duplin has brought a fun, new adult activity to the Grand Strand area. The tasting is a great deal at $5 for 12 wines and you keep your glass. You can upgrade your tasting to include a delicious dip and glass of wine for an additional $5. I would have rated as a 5 star location if it weren't for the limited selection of wines. Duplin only uses muscadine grapes resulting in a highly sweet product -- towards the middle of the tasting they all started taking on the same flavor. I understand they have a large selection of wines but with only one variety of grapes used, there is not much variety. The dips in the shop are delicious, definitely try some samples and take home a few bottles. The dips were very reasonably priced and would make a great gift. Also every staff member I encountered was very friendly and helpful. Just wish they carried additional varieties of grapes for all to enjoy! read more
