The basement apartment is self sufficient, so we did not have the "bed and breakfast" experience of sharing, but that's OK for us.. We had our own full bath, our own exterior entrance, etc. Rates vary, but this was such a better deal than any hotel room, how can you go wrong?

The bed was amazingly comfortable -- one of those adjustable tempurpedic mattresses. I'm not sure if every room has one or if it was just our room, but it sure made it hard to want to get out of bed. There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant or the bar, but I will say there is a coffee shop around the corner/attached (ish?). This is also located around 30-50 minutes walking distance to all the popular spots in D.C., everything from the White House to the Capitol. It just depended on your walking "tolerance." The room was cleaned daily. Lots of space for being the corner room. Now, depending on how you feel about this: there is no closet. So, our bags were kind of spilling all over the place. They have big black out curtains on the windows that did a great job at blocking out the light in my room. A few things to note: -They have electric kettles and pour over coffee. I turned off the kettle before it was fully done, and even when I turned it off early, the water was incredibly hot (hotter than a typical hotel coffee maker). The outside of the kettle also became scalding hot, so be careful. -The parking is valet only. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. However, none of the valet drivers could drive a manual car. They still had us park there, but they had us park the car ourselves. The valet parking has in and out privileges, but they're not 24-hours a day. I wish the website made it clear they weren't open overnight. BUT, the customer service was top notch and when we needed the car and valet wasn't there, the front desk staff helped us get it. I will definitely stay here again.

You complete the check-in on the kiosk yourself. You also scan your keycard yourself. I love how independent the process is. The rooms are modern and have a cozy feel to them. They have iPads in each room which allows you to dim the lights, set alarms, set the mood and control the blinds and temperature. I love this feature. You can lay in the bed and handle everything with the iPad. I didn't get a chance to go upstairs to the rooftop. I know it would've boosted the rating up to 5 stars. When I visit again I will be sure to stop by the rooftop. I did visit the lobby bar area. The vegan food options weren't the greatest. I settled for fries and a ginger beer. Overall, great hotel in the perfect location.

Check-in went really well and my room was ready a little bit earlier so I was able to go up and put my things away before attending the event. I love they offer snacks and drinks right in your room if you need them but can only imagine how expensive they were. I went to a friend's room and picked up a few and started getting yelled at about not touching them and that's when I realized they were on pressurized plates. Oops. She wasn't too happy . . . . lol Elevator was a little questionable because at times you didn't need to have your key in order for it to move, and at times you did. I did like they keep your bags if your room isn't ready or after you've checked out. The room was clean and since I didn't really spend much time in it I didn't see anything out of the ordinary or unpleasant which was great. Upon check out and grabbing the car, we we were charged over $100 when we were originally quoted $69 if we stayed the night. Fees or whatever else they tacked on were astronomical and ridiculous. It irritated me somewhat because I specifically called prior to booking to ask about their parking policy and wasn't informed about the extra fees SO BE AWARE!

The AC can only be set to 68, but would never go below 70. It must detect motion or it will turn off after a certain amount of time. So if you leave for the day, you'll come back to a warm room. Not sure how it works at night without people moving, but I did wake up hot, even though I heard the AC occasionally. You also can't set the fan to auto, low, high. It only stays on auto and turns off before hitting the 68 degrees it's set on. TV in the room is very grainy and not HD like we're all used to today. No guide either so you have to use the paper guide. The #2 didn't work on our remote either which made things difficult. Some rooms parallel to a train track. It came through quite often, but wasn't heard much on the 9th (top) floor unless it honked its horn. Has a great gym with lots of different equipment to use. Love the rooftop to look out where the pool is.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a concierge person who made great suggestions about restaurants and entertainment. The room was reasonably clean, though showing some signs of age. The beds are very firm and take a little getting used to. We had a choice of firm and soft pillows to boot! We had room 459, so be aware that trains roll through during the night. Two trains the first night and three on the second night. One train does honk the horn, but the others do not. Overall, a great experience and because of the location and amazing service, we'll most likely return

Our room was spacious with beautifully clean, white linens on the bed. The bed was comfortable, but a little hard on the surface for me. Surprisingly quiet room for a city too. We slept well. The bathroom was a little small, but it was clean and comfortable and the shower got real hot! Score! The free coffee situation left much to be desired, but there's coffee shops in walking distance. For dinner (every night of our stay) we had &pizza, which is within the hotel. AMAZING!!! I've been starved for GOOD pizza where I live and this hit. It was so perfectly delicious, affordable, and fresh, and not to mention, part of the reason we chose the hotel! So we got it multiple times and for the drive home! For a touch more detail, here's a pro/con list, in case you like that sort of thing. We booked a junior suite, and I'm so glad we did. Having a second room to lounge in was wonderful, especially since my husband and I enjoy very different shows. Being able to slide the door shut was perfect. And I'm not sure how they do it, but the room was completely soundproof--you didn't hear a peep! The room was the perfect size, and the bathroom was spacious. The shower featured Balmain products (loved those), and the bar soap was Diptyque, one of my favorites. They even stocked bottled water next to the bed and in the wine fridge. When we mentioned that we wanted it colder, they immediately brought up a small refrigerator for us and even offered a microwave! The location is fantastic--just a block or so from the White House and McPherson Square Metro station, and close to all the monuments. I felt very pampered throughout our stay and honestly wish it had been longer than four days. The Sofitel DC has spoiled me, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return to DC!

Locks 10 and 11 seem like they would be the best choice, other locks have common doors just outside your door, so you hear everyone coming / going and getting coffee, etc. 2. Nice little two-person outdoor patio set outside lock #10, very nice for sharing a night cap. 3. Others have commented about the absence of staff, I do agree this is off putting but everything seemed to work with a little 'figuring out'. 4. For example, checking in at the ATM like machine, which takes a $100 deposit - and provides a numerical key code to your room. It was unclear to me that code ALSO opens the front door just to the right of the ATM, and whether that door was the common entrance. 4a. Another reviewer also mentioned their deposit took longer than they expected to be refunded, I was surprised to see the deposit move to a charge vice dropping from 'pending charges', took the full 5 days to credit after I called - expect a delay, the refund is not instant. 5. On the coffee machine, it defaults to a 6oz pour. Override that and select 10oz - that fills the cup entirely and doesn't waste the Keurig grounds in the capsule. 6. Location could not be better, don't miss dinner at Clyde's or a dessert to go from Filomena's (Turtle and Strawberry cheesecakes are spectacular, all made in house). 7. Common area kitchen has a full size refrigerator with 11 labeled bins, each for a lock - nice to be able to chill a bottle of wine or other items as needed. We were assigned to Room #5. 112sq ft of intimate space, cleanliness and entertainment. Nicely new/ updated rooms, pretty décor, toiletries provided, in room remote thermostat, clothing storage, natural light and room lights, cable tv, etc. I loved everything about this room. It is smack in the middle of Georgetown. You can literally walk everywhere your heart desires. Located in a clean and safe neighborhood, late night food and entertainment gems, etc. There are moderately priced garages everywhere. Street metered parking if you're lucky, and a few free parking spaces 1 street over. Hubby and I are already making plans to return! This place is a must stay... Trust me !!
