Durbin magic freeze has been one of my favorite ice cream spot for years. They have so many different options for ice cream, milkshakes, slushies, frozen yogurt, and more. They also have ice cream cakes, which is very good for parties of course, but the reason I drive all the way from Cuyahoga Falls is because of their low prices and 100% in love with their toasted coconut ice cream flavor. Super delicious hard serve ice cream! Lots of parking spaces here too! There were many people in line, and because of having lots of employees, they were able to keep the line moving quickly. I'm not originally from the area. When we moved to the area, if you were meeting anyone for the first time all directions and points of interest were given based on their proximity to Durbin's. "Grocery store? That 3 blocks west of Durbin's." "My house? About 4 blocks north of Durbin's." "Bank? You have to start at Durbin's and head south." After going there, I understood. There is just something magic about this place. Nostalgic, friendly, polite employees, and rockin' ice cream and ice cream concoctions. My personal favorite is the Turtle Sundae. Three layers of hot fudge, butterscotch/caramel and pecans divided by their vanilla custard and topped whipped cream and a cherry. Served in a very large cup. Maybe 16 or 20 ounces, or 55 gallons...I can't tell. It's huge. And for $4.50... Holy moly that thing would be $8 or more anywhere else. This place has a really strange occurrence that happens. So in the off season, they will still open occasionally. If the weather gets above a certain temperature, it's on. Now here's the thing. I do not believe there is any notice or advertisement of this opening. Somehow the locals just sense it. Like there is just some primal instinct that makes them head to Durbin's. Similar to the migration of birds heading north in spring. I just picture everyone sitting in their house on a semi-warm day, when all of a sudden, the lead Barbertonite stands up and begins walking toward Durbin's with $5 cash in their hand. (Pretty much nothing is more than $5 and they only take cash). Before you know it, there is a swarm of locals filling the parking lot calling out there favorite ice cream. This really should be documented by National Geographic at some point. Never the less, it's a delicious treat. read more

Made the 30+ minute drive today to try the homemade hot fudge... it was good, but nothing crazy. The staff was incredibly welcoming, patient, and friendly!! Where Durbin misses the beat is in its flavors: The vanilla didn't have a strong vanilla flavor, more like plain milk. I got pina colada custard and it was PINK. A pink pina colada?? I 100% thought it was strawberry when I got it, and told the staff I was supposed to get pina colada and they responded "that is pina colada". Awkward! Absolutely NO pineapple flavor. My mom said she tasted coconut, but I wasn't even sold on that. Thank goodness they have VERY CHEAP PRICES so I didn't feel that bad throwing my cone away. Maybe I should have sampled first, but wow not at all what I wanted or was expecting. Maybe watch how you label your flavors? @ Durbin Again, I was wonderfully impressed with the low prices! Muuuuuch better than the $5 a cone places in other towns. Overall, I would like to give them another try if I'm ever in the area, but I would not drive 35 minutes again. What is with the menu? Who needs seven thousand sizes for everything? When did small, medium, and large stop being useful? I wanted old school Krunch Kote, the kind with a little bit of nuts and sprinkles in it. I looked at their menu, which is incredibly hard to read. Under "dips" it said "chocolate crunch". I thought maybe there is a new type of dip coat, the magic of dip with an extra crunch. No. Since their sprinkles are the same price as their dip, they list them in the same section. I told the incredibly annoying counter girl that it's not a dip and she said, "Well, it is a dip." No. Dip is liquid that, when soft serve or custard is DIPPED into it, it hardens around the ice cream cone. Dip is not sprinkles. My mom had the misfortune of ordering a hot fudge sundae. She asked for "something in the middle," because they have so many confusing and unnecessary size options. (Wouldn't it be nice if the annoying counter girl had offered to explain the size options? But customer service is too hard.) The sundae came in a styrofoam cup meant for a cold beverage, not a sundae. It was a liquid mess of hot fudge poured over ice cream. It was hard to eat because a beverage cup isn't designed for scooping ice cream out with a spoon and dissatisfying because there was no fudge on the bottom. Who wants a sundae that ends in a pile of ice cream with no topping? No one. This place is confusing, the employees are dumb and not helpful, and the food isn't worth it at all. There are plenty of other places to get ice cream, so we'll go there. read more

I love Durbin's! THE BEST place for ice cream in Barberton hands down! You have to get something there made with their famous homemade hot fudge. Also their custard is delicious as well.
