Jerk chicken, rice n peas and plantains
    Stephanie M.

The food is good and tasty that said I ate here twice two weeks in a row. Pork steak had a light smoke flavor. The peas and rice and sauteed cabbage were good with the use of salt and pepper. Jerk chicken with plantains was nice. Service on both visits were completely different. The first visit was attentive and engaging, the second visit was nonexistent. They have a food truck that visits different area's that I was able to try and didn't disappoint. My only complaint is no salt or pepper is offered on the food truck.

Unassuming place right off the highway, but I've heard the food truck was good. Ended up having a great meal here, very tasty and unique for the area. I thought the meal had the perfect amount of spice, but YMMV. I got the cabbage which was great for throwing on top of the Rasta pasta, which seems to be a go to order here. Some people thought this place was slow, but food came out fast for us. The place doesn't have many tables and does run the A/C a little high, but that is not even 1% of the experience. Looking forward to going back

TL;DR Best jerk chicken ever Order at a window in the decorated restaurant Must try Caribbean cuisine Me and my brother were out looking to eat and stopped by this small restaurant. We weren't expecting much but some type of jerk sauce on chicken. But wow! This place really had the best jerk chicken ever!!! It was the classic Jamaican platter I think the name was. It had yummy fried plantains and rice. I got an order of coco bread and it was really good rich bread. Service is simple, my brother and I walked up to the window to the kitchen and a nice lady took our order. Then she gave us a number plate. We sat down in the right section with our number plate on the table. It took less than ten minutes but there wasn't many people there. I don't know why cause the food was incredible! Me and my bro got to admire the Caribbean decor as we ate. Overall great experience. Price is splendid for the portions! Small warning, there are bones in the chicken I ordered. There was supposed to be but I wanted to mention :)

I was here a few weeks ago while visiting Hickory to visit family. Most people would forget about leaving an honest review but I refuse to be one of those people, especially when this place truly deserves all the praises from our experience. The moment we walked in we were greeted by the host and seated (a legit wholesome greeting and not someone putting on a show). Service was absolutely top tier and quick. Our order was placed and yes we weren't afraid to order everything on that menu just to try it out (review receipt for proof ) The food came out fresh, pipping hot and was absolutely delicious. You want flavor? You want spice? You want food that'll remind you that everything will be okay after a long days work? THIS PLACE will be your saving Grace. First time having ox tails and my oh my bless the hands that prepped our meal. Gifted chef that knows how to throw it down in the kitchen. We were so impressed by everything that took place we left a $100 tip. No regrets. Both of the owners came out to talk with us. Incredibly beautiful and hardworking people. Thank you for taking care of us they you did. I will be back in the next time I'm back in town

My sister and I gave Dirty Thumbs a try for lunch today and we were not disappointed! The jerk chicken was so fresh and full of flavor with just enough heat. The rice and peas was tasty and my sister loved the plantain fries. The owner and her daughter were extremely friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a taste of the Caribbean, I highly recommend you stop in and see the folks at Dirty Thumbs, I know I'll be back.

Love the vibe walking in. Very comfortable setting. Wait wasn't long and the food came out quickly. The curry chicken was fantastic. Food came in disposable containers.

Curry Goat with cabbage and fried plantains

We have been to the Dirty Thumbs food truck several times, but this was out first experience at their restaurant and it did not disappoint. The service was great and the food even better. This is the real deal authentic Jamaican food. We were there on a Friday evening the hardly anyone was there. People you are missing out some some good Jamaican food at a great price. The curry goat was excellent, and the Jerk Chicken was perfect. It had a smoky undernote flavor, but the Jerk seasoning was the star. You will not be disappointed, Great addition to the Hickory restaurant scene.

An old mill space with a second lease on life, now holds various shops, restaurants, and the Crossing, a big event venue that obviously hosts some concerts but looks like it'd make a great wedding venue, too. We grabbed dinner at Highland Avenue just across the way before the show (review for them to follow) and then wandered over for the concert. The Crossing has a decent bar with a couple beers on draft as well as some bottles/cans and wine. You can leave the venue with your drink and hang out on the upstairs patio/balcony area. A nice spot to get some fresh air and have a conversation without screaming over the tunes. The acoustics weren't great for the Wood Brothers -- LOTS of feedback -- and it's all general admission. There are some benches with enough seating for about 10-15 people around the edge of the room. We stood in a few different spots all around the venue and I had a hard time seeing everywhere. While it was a sold out show, it didn't feel too crazy packed. All in all, it's a pretty venue in a cool spot but the acoustics and limited visibility make it a tough spot to enjoy a concert.

The crowd was very alive, I can say that much...! I thought the overall venue atmosphere was neat, although I didn't care for the draperies hanging from the ceiling (just not my style). The only reason I didn't give 4 stars is because the beer selection was HORRIBLE. We are talking basic, gross (to me) beers: Coors Light (maybe??), Miller Lite, that genre. Two beers on tap, but also bad. No IPAs or dark beers or selection at all. Really irritated me, especially because there are tons of great breweries in our state, and Hickory is situated between many of them. I saw signage for the Blowing Rock Brewery and regret not going there for a pre-show brew.

And they ABSOLUTELY DID! In truth, they were the one element of my wedding that was completely stress-free. There really isn't much more you could ask from your wedding venue. In typical form, it absolutely poured on our wedding day. Moving the ceremony inside made next to no difference because of the natural beauty of everything. It seamlessly incorporated the look of an outdoor ceremony with the convenience and comfort of an indoor ceremony. Our coordinator Bethany flawlessly navigated the last minute overnighted umbrellas ordered. They ended up being held at the local post office due to their weight. I found out late the night before our wedding and hurriedly texted her. True to form, she provided an immediate solution and had Paula's husband at the post office first thing the morning of the wedding to have them picked up. They just could not have been more willing or accommodating to what the event needed. Paula and Bethany truly were the backbone to our wedding! We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us. We are so grateful!
