Jerk chicken, rice n peas and plantains
    Stephanie M.

The food is good and tasty that said I ate here twice two weeks in a row. Pork steak had a light smoke flavor. The peas and rice and sauteed cabbage were good with the use of salt and pepper. Jerk chicken with plantains was nice. Service on both visits were completely different. The first visit was attentive and engaging, the second visit was nonexistent. They have a food truck that visits different area's that I was able to try and didn't disappoint. My only complaint is no salt or pepper is offered on the food truck.

Unassuming place right off the highway, but I've heard the food truck was good. Ended up having a great meal here, very tasty and unique for the area. I thought the meal had the perfect amount of spice, but YMMV. I got the cabbage which was great for throwing on top of the Rasta pasta, which seems to be a go to order here. Some people thought this place was slow, but food came out fast for us. The place doesn't have many tables and does run the A/C a little high, but that is not even 1% of the experience. Looking forward to going back

Jamaican Jerk chicken. Rice. Fried plantains. Coco Bread.

TL;DR Best jerk chicken ever Order at a window in the decorated restaurant Must try Caribbean cuisine Me and my brother were out looking to eat and stopped by this small restaurant. We weren't expecting much but some type of jerk sauce on chicken. But wow! This place really had the best jerk chicken ever!!! It was the classic Jamaican platter I think the name was. It had yummy fried plantains and rice. I got an order of coco bread and it was really good rich bread. Service is simple, my brother and I walked up to the window to the kitchen and a nice lady took our order. Then she gave us a number plate. We sat down in the right section with our number plate on the table. It took less than ten minutes but there wasn't many people there. I don't know why cause the food was incredible! Me and my bro got to admire the Caribbean decor as we ate. Overall great experience. Price is splendid for the portions! Small warning, there are bones in the chicken I ordered. There was supposed to be but I wanted to mention :)

I was here a few weeks ago while visiting Hickory to visit family. Most people would forget about leaving an honest review but I refuse to be one of those people, especially when this place truly deserves all the praises from our experience. The moment we walked in we were greeted by the host and seated (a legit wholesome greeting and not someone putting on a show). Service was absolutely top tier and quick. Our order was placed and yes we weren't afraid to order everything on that menu just to try it out (review receipt for proof ) The food came out fresh, pipping hot and was absolutely delicious. You want flavor? You want spice? You want food that'll remind you that everything will be okay after a long days work? THIS PLACE will be your saving Grace. First time having ox tails and my oh my bless the hands that prepped our meal. Gifted chef that knows how to throw it down in the kitchen. We were so impressed by everything that took place we left a $100 tip. No regrets. Both of the owners came out to talk with us. Incredibly beautiful and hardworking people. Thank you for taking care of us they you did. I will be back in the next time I'm back in town

Jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantain fries.

My sister and I gave Dirty Thumbs a try for lunch today and we were not disappointed! The jerk chicken was so fresh and full of flavor with just enough heat. The rice and peas was tasty and my sister loved the plantain fries. The owner and her daughter were extremely friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a taste of the Caribbean, I highly recommend you stop in and see the folks at Dirty Thumbs, I know I'll be back.

Love the vibe walking in. Very comfortable setting. Wait wasn't long and the food came out quickly. The curry chicken was fantastic. Food came in disposable containers.

Curry Goat with cabbage and fried plantains

We have been to the Dirty Thumbs food truck several times, but this was out first experience at their restaurant and it did not disappoint. The service was great and the food even better. This is the real deal authentic Jamaican food. We were there on a Friday evening the hardly anyone was there. People you are missing out some some good Jamaican food at a great price. The curry goat was excellent, and the Jerk Chicken was perfect. It had a smoky undernote flavor, but the Jerk seasoning was the star. You will not be disappointed, Great addition to the Hickory restaurant scene.

Portions were significantly smaller and the ham croquetas were very disappointing. They definitely changed the way they made them. The ham in the croqueta was hard and tasted old and everything else did not taste like it was freshly fried and crispy. On the other hand, I ordered a cheeseburger, and that was amazing... I'm hoping to give it another shot one day, but it's not my first choice. The restaurant itself is very clean, service is very friendly and if you get the opportunity to sit outside on the patio, you will not be disappointed. Parking is a little tricky because it's not a big lot and you are sharing it with the restaurant nextdoor and the condo's.

There is also a gravel and grass lot in the rear of building down the side street. You would need to walk about a half block if you park there. There is a sidewalk, but the walk is up a slight hill, so be aware. I did not notice any specific handicapped spaces. The entrance opens into the main seating area, with a stage on the left. The menu is on a white board near the entrance. The ordering counter is in the rear. Seating is all tables with a few seats at the counter. Everything looked bright and clean, even if it was not all new. We placed our order and went to find a seat. The food was brought to our table in about 10 minutes. The Jerk chicken plate was very good. There was some spicy heat throughout the dish but not enough to be distracting. The flavor was very good. The side of cabbage was a very good accompaniment to the chicken. The rice was fine but nothing special. The plantain was cooked properly, but it would have been nice to have more than one small piece. The beef and curry chicken hand patties were quite good. Both had nice flavor and were more filling than expected. The selection of fillings does change, and they also run out of certain fillings so the availability does change. The food here is very good and the variety can keep you occupied for several trips. Or, you can just re-order your favorite every time and still walk away more than satisfied.

Visited: Friday, June 13th, 2025…read more We decided to check this place out, and overall, it was a solid experience with a lot of potential! Here's the full scoop Ambiance: There's a nice amount of outdoor seating with a chill vibe. Inside, the space is cozy and clean--nothing fancy, but definitely inviting. I loved that the buffet is behind glass and served by staff --much more hygienic than your typical buffet setup. Pricing: Shoutout to them for offering a senior buffet price of $9.99, compared to the regular $16.99. That's super appreciated when you're dining out with parents or older relatives . Drinks: We ordered jugo de maracuyá (passionfruit juice). The flavor was there, but the pulp kept floating to the top, so the texture was a little odd. Still refreshing though! Food Experience: My mom started with the buffet and felt the food was lukewarm--not cold, but definitely not hot either . No heat lamps or lids on the trays might be the reason. Thankfully, the manager, Jesús, was amazing and open to feedback. He told us the place is under new ownership (just a few months in), so I'm hopeful improvements are coming. My husband also had the buffet and really enjoyed the rice and beans --well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. I ordered the Mar y Tierra mofongo platter , which came with: Garlic shrimp, Steak, Arroz con gandules, Fresh salad, And oddly... beans, even though the rice already had pigeon peas? The mofongo was great, and the salad was fresh and crisp. The steak and garlic sauce were both flavorful but unfortunately super salty--I couldn't finish it. The dish itself could definitely feed two people though! Dessert Letdown: I asked for tres leches cake, and I'm so glad I've learned to smell it before digging in. The milk had definitely gone bad . It's tricky with that kind of dessert since it spoils quickly if not stored right, since it consists of three different milks. Service: Top-notch. Jesús (manager) was kind, professional, and genuinely cared about our experience. Cris, our waitress, was sweet and attentive--she kept our table spotless and always checked if we needed refills or anything else. 10/10 for service --- Final Verdict: Great service Clean and comfortable setting Good flavors (but watch the salt) Affordable for seniors Just needs better temperature control and fresher desserts Would I come back? Yes. Especially to see how it improves over time with the new owners.

The Leche cake was very good. The biggest thing was there wasn't any prices anywhere. We had no idea how much things cost. There is just a chalk board with the food selections. So 1 entree, 1 dessert cake, 2 waters cost $26 without tip. I'm not sure if we will return.
