When I went into the attic to correct a poorly installed booster fan (details below), I also discovered dangerous wiring in violation of electrical codes. See those wire connections near the duct? By code, those are supposed to be inside a junction box that is secured to house framing. But the way this was done is a FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazard, should someone bump up against it or disturb the connection. That is what prompted me to write this review. Earlier problems: The way this all started was the house I purchased had poor air circulation to one corner of the house, as identified during the home inspection. Prior to closing, the owner had Affordable American (AA) install a booster fan. Unfortunately, they installed it in the wrong location. Instead of installing it upstream of a Y-junction, they installed it in one of the branch circuits of the Y. The problem with that is instead of boosting the air coming from the evaporator fan, it sucks air out of the other side of the Y branch. In effect, creating an endless loop of air that never gets cooled (or heated). When I notified AA of their mistake, they inspected it and quoted their full price for such work, saying it was over a year and why did I wait so long. I don't know why that should matter since it was still a faulty installation on their part. After much haggling, they finally agreed to do it for half the original quote. I then tried to schedule the work, but after many phone calls over a period of weeks, I could never get them to come out. It is clear to me that they had no intention of standing behind their work. In the end, I'm glad they didn't because I never would have seen the shoddy workmanship of the wiring mentioned earlier. I'm glad others seem to have had good experiences with Affordable American, but based on my experience, I would at least have someone knowledgeable check their work for code violations and safety issues. And don't pay them without an independent inspection as they do not stand behind their work.

My issue began, when he was looking at the length of the pipe. They had quoted me upto 15 foot $119. Now my laundry room is located on the second floor, back of the house, and the pipe goes straight up. I want to know how someone could tell me it was over 15 foot, when the room is only 8 foot and the roof is sloping there? There is no way it is another seven foot. To make things more interesting, I kept looking at the length of the rooter he put up there and there is no way the line was 15 foot, and the brushes on the end of the rooter were largely missing. So I am confused how one cleans a pipe missing most of the brushes? I thought at one point he was going to change the brushes, but he did not. Once he was done, he came down and he told me it was going to be $149 plus tax since the pipe was longer than 15 foot. I told him there is no way and that his company should have disclosed this before the work had been done. The total ended up being $161.29, which is about $40 more than I was expecting. I feel like this is bait and switch to be honest. I did contact their office and let them know I was unhappy with the service in relation to the charges. I thought the Tech was good, I just did not like charges. If you are going to change price, then you disclose this. I would prolly would have cancelled the service had I known this was going to happen. I did let them know, I would be doing this review. Not as a threat, but as a reminder that I am fair in my reviews, but you must disclose changes in agreed charges and you must actually measure something if you plan on charging a fee per foot. Eyeballing something doesn't cut it.

James saves the day!…read more On a Sunday (of course), our water heater decided to spring a leak. A BAD leak, as water was gushing out of the safety drain pipe onto our driveway. We shut off the water and realized that we needed help. Quick. Especially since even after shutting off the water and releasing the pressure on a dedicated hot water line in a sink, the water still kept coming. Called James, left a message with his answering service. He called me back in about 20 minutes! Unfortunately, though, he didn't have a water heater on hand on this particular Sunday, but he promised to be at our house by 8 AM on Monday morning. At 7:50 AM on Monday, James is here. Thank goodness! Not a quick job, since he had to replace not only the water heater, but a seal on the shut-off valve was defective and a seal on the hot water line wasn't working, either. He took care of everything - and I mean everything - expertly and efficiently. Hot water back up and running! Now, here's the unbelievable part: James had quoted us a cost for replacement of this water heater back in October of last year. He told us that the quote was good for 90 days. Obviously the 90 days was long gone, but James honored that quote and charged us the exact amount that he said he would back in October - not a nickel more. Wow! Highly recommend this local business. James does superb work, and communication is excellent. And he's very reasonable on cost, too!

Long story short, we are happy and thankful to have our home but with an older home comes older home issues. This summer's issue occurred when our air conditioner decided to begin its slow death in the middle of Houston-August when the temperature was around 147-degrees if I remember correctly. We tried having friends of friends come over and service the unit, as well as purchase 100plus dollars worth of fans for the house but the Houston-August heat continued to be disrespectful. So we realized that we would need to start the process of trying to locate an AC Company to provide us with a diagnostic and a quote to repair or possible replace our AC Unit. I had NO IDEA that the next week would be so mentally exhausting!! I swear, I have never had so many USED CASH CAR SALESMAN in my presence in such a short amount of time! It was really a disappointing and disheartening experience to have so many people from the bigger "reputable" companies come in and blatantly lie to my face about the amount of work I needed to have done. Let them tell it, I needed to throw the whole house away or at least set up financing to purchase the equivalent of a KIA Soul to fix my AC. I cannot stand disingenuous people and I felt like that was all I was coming in contact with. Just when I was about to give in and pick one of these Janky Salesmen's companies, I decided to do a little more home work and call a few more people. That is when I came across Air of Houston. I called them and they set a date and time when they were supposed to come and they ACTUALLY came at that time and date (take notes ARS)! Mr. David showed up personally to come and access the situation, and I exaggerate you not... he was THE ONLY person to tell me about my warranties on my current equipment. He took the time to explain the options to my wife and I as well as provide a VERY reasonable quote compared to the other folks who let flies in my house going in and out the front door before selling me a dream. Mr. David shot straight from the hip, and provided an old school "hand shake and eye contact" feeling you don't find with bigger companies who send their salesmen to your home to practice their script. He didn't, "call his manager to see if they could go down on the price" like the others did... All he did was come in and tell me what he found to be the problem, explain what he believed to be the best rout to take in order to fix it, and follow through with the agreement by providing prompt and professional service! I can't say enough about how much I appreciated my experience with Air of Houston and Mr. David. I just wish I had made the call sooner so I could have saved myself the headache and a few flies in the house.
