For those of you that have not priced these things out before, quite a bit has changed over time...like the cost! Also, technology has moved on as well, so it's virtually impossible to replace "just the condenser" without all the additional furnace components...they simply won't work together. We called several HVAC contractors...one of them being the large energy company we all know in this area. They came in and did their inspection and were very professional. But their price was 50% higher than the local competition. Yes you read that right!! I wasn't concerned about the "big guys" doing it right, since they are our current utility firm and we have appliance contracts through them. But in light of these tough economic times, I really wanted to give it to a small business. I just wasn't sure how well they would stand behind their work and whether they would do it right the first time. I did research and found two other options. The one that really stood out was AAA Comfort Air in Cream Ridge, NJ. They had over 95 five-star reviews, and although anyone can fake a review, I still felt compelled to do my due diligence. I set an appointment for Emil (the owner) to come in and assess the situation. He was professional, took his shoes off before entering (not at our request), and clearly laid out what was needed and NOT what was most expensive. As a matter of fact, he recommended options that were less expensive vs. those that would simply feed his wallet without added benefit to us. His demeanor was polite, knowledgeable, and he took the time (over 1-hour) to really explain everything without pushing for the sale. Additionally, there are some unique challenges in our home that require minimal dust due to some family health issues and he offered to put up plastic to separate the rooms to ensure a clean work environment. Well, much to my surprise, Emil, came back with an estimate that was truly outstanding vs. simply "competitive". Likewise, his firm provides a 3-year parts and labor warranty (not an option...he just provides it) along with the condenser manufacturer's 10-year. The others only offered 1-year.... that in of itself really resonated with me! We decided to move forward, and I have to say, we made the right decision. Emil and his team were outstanding. They arrived on time, ready to go, and their work was outstanding. Everything was done in one day, with a clean install and a fully working system. Look, HVAC replacement won't make your home look nicer, but it surely is important. No one wants to spend that kind of money unless they have to. Emil and his team were not only very competitive, but they delivered on their promises and were very customer focused. If you are seriously considering a project like this, you need to consider AAA Comfort air. They deliver on their promises and care about their customers. They go above and beyond and deliver with an eye towards balancing price with efficiency. We highly recommend them and you should absolutely include them in your decision-making process. During that time he or an employee have been to the house three times. Each time, between the time I called and when they showed up, things would start working properly again. So they would try to diagnose the issue based on my description and do what seemed to be appropriate, and things would be fine for a while but eventually the problem would recur. So yesterday he showed up with an expensive piece of equipment to properly diagnose the issue, and having done so, brought in another expensive piece of equipment to fix the problem. He was there for over two hours, and along the way, he mentioned what he normally charges for use of that equipment because of what it cost him. I was OK with it; I was just happy to have the problem finally fixed. But when he was done, he said that he wasn't happy about the past "misdiagnoses" and I shouldn't have to pay for them, and he ended up charging me about a third of what I was expecting. When I offered to meet him halfway, he said, "Sorry, I've already entered it into the system, nothing I can do." I can't promise that you'll get price breaks like I got on this occasion, but I can promise that you won't get ripped off, and that you'll get excellent service.

Last season I was advised by my oil company that my old furnace was still running but she would need to be replaced soon. It's 30+ years old. Thank goodness she made it through the season. In the middle of the heat wave my AC unit went. Again my oil company came and made the repair, but said that the compressor was original and should be replaced ASAP. When I called them, they told me that they were booked solid and referred me to RJS. THANK GOODNESS THAT THEY DID!!! Within two days Ron had contacted me to set up an appointment to give an estimate. He looked at my equipment and told me what I needed. He also suggested a new oil tank. I asked him to write it up and we will work it out. Within 4 days I had a full written estimate in the mail. He also said they were installed improperly. The lady in the office was very nice. Not her fault. He ripped us off for quite a bit to just keep coming and putting Freon in. That was three years ago. I had to call for a second visit, and because they came out twice, I was charged a service fee both times, even though the heating system was never repaired. I had no heat in the house, and when I spoke with the owner, Bob, to explain that I should not be charged twice for a problem that should have been identified during the first visit, he was unpleasant and not helpful. He compared my situation to taking a car in for repairs and still having to pay even if they don't know what's wrong -- a comparison that made no sense in this context. He also insisted that my husband call him, even after I repeatedly explained that he is my ex, then hang up the phone on me. He was insensitive and rude. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone. My ex‑husband and my brother both used their services in the past and recommended them to me, but it's clear that customer loyalty and family referrals mean nothing to this owner.
