Recently heard that Duston's was making decent steak and cheese subs. Had to try. Sandwich was pretty good. Steak was tender and delicious, plenty of melty cheese, fried onions were great and in the right ratio. Overall solid...... except the roll. The roll was not good. Chewed like sponge cake. Toasting it may have helped, but I think they should maybe take some time and bake some real good ones. Especially as it's completely different than the advertised seeded rolls on the website. Bake a roll like the one pictured on your website and I'll be back weekly. read more

So I'm very disappointed. I've been going to Duston's for 15 years to get their steak and cheese. Growing up near Boston I always compared Duston's to the best steak and cheese I've ever had (Leone's, J&S both in Somerville). However, as soon as I opened the bag tonight I remembered they were recently sold. I had hoped they wouldn't change their steak and cheese, but I was wrong. The bread right away I could tell is different. Not nearly as fresh. The steak is not shaved as it was. It's sliced, but not shaved. Just so disappointed. Two stars. I ate it and it was ok, but I definitely won't be back. Lastly, I hate giving bad reviews to local places if you notice from my previous reviews. read more

I got to enjoy Duston's Market wraps and tortellini salad this past week. We were at the Jenny Thompson pool across the street. It was a short walk exiting the pool on the ice rink side and using the signaled crosswalk. We ordered three wraps, all were made accurately from the online order. The wraps all had a good quantity/quality of meat and good quality/quantity of vegetables, and I appreciate that they went "light" with sauces, it didn't drench the wrap or make the wrap soggy, but added flavor. Beyond the wraps, when I arrived, overwhelmed with all the other items they have. I bought a premade tortellini salad. I prefer something that is a little more "mayo" based, but it was fresh and tasted good. They had a lot of other wraps in their fridge ready to go. They had a huge selection of drinks, chips, and many other baked goods, cupcakes, and whoopie pies. With events nearby at the pool/skating rink, their hours do seem a little "short". DO NOT GO HERE, you will have an obsession after your first visit. I say this from my own personal experiences!! I stopped one morning after never seeming to have the time before. I walked in and was absolutely blown away. Very clean, very organized and a wide arrangement of all different selections. It was early morning, so the lunch counter was understandably not functioning. I ordered 6 cupcakes and 6 donuts. Just wow... not sure I can put into words the dance in my mouth that was taking place as I rifled the glazed donut of perfection down my throat. It was light and fluffy with a great dried shiny glaze. TO DIE FOR. Probably the best donut I have ever had.... And being a fitness girl, donuts are an indulgence I fully seek out when I travel. The Oreo cupcake - OMG, airy consistency that was sweet but not too sweet, great cocoa flavor without overpowering Oreo crumbles, it was finely merged with the smooth frosting. In all honesty, I should have taken more pictures before this was all devoured and picked through - but let's just say they were soooooo delicious lasting was the only problem I had. The girl behind the register was friendly and great to chat with, something I enjoy when I go to new places. The girl working behind the counter giving out the sweets was kind and friendly but kind of shy, had to push her to talk... I'm Italian so I like to chat and have conversation about the $60 I'm spending, give me suggestions or feedback. The girl at the register was wonderful and closed my deal, very happy customer soon to be a repeat offender!! Great hidden gem on a main road, if you blink you'd miss it and then you'd be sorry you missed out!!!!! Definitely worth the stop!!! This can be added to my favorite bakery list!!!! read more

When I want a cake for a special occasion, I always go to Dustons! They are always willing to figure out how to make what you want. The cakes are moist, dense, and awesome! Dustons is a fantastic family owned bakery, deli, and market. While the market has various grocery items, the REAL stars of Dustons are the bakery and deli counters! The bakery has just about everything you'd want, all homemade, and everything is delicious, from the muffins and cookies to the more exotic pastries, cakes, pies, seasonal items, etc. And hands down they have the best whoopie pies I've ever had (the pumpkin whoopie pies they sell around Halloween and Thanksgiving time are lethal!). The deli has a full menu, from deli meats and cheeses and sandwiches to hot meals, fried chicken dinners, soups, salads, and the like. As with the bakery, everything is delicious. They also do party orders and platters ranging from small to huge. Just about every family party my wife and I have either hosted or gone to has stuff from Dustons...it's the go-to place for great platters in the Dover area. They use to have a box fir the croissants now they put them in a bag. Well now that they are in a bag the bread gets soggy. And so does the hash browns they were nice and crispy in the boxes. This market has EVERYTHING - a deli where you can select from oodles of different made-to-order sandwiches and a bakery with an impressive selection of goodies (including their famous whoopie pies). Everything was priced reasonably. We took advantage of the small seating area - so we could enjoy our sandwiches, chips, drinks and whoopie pies. (I envied my sister's DOUBLE-STUFFED whoopie pie.) On Sunday, March 1, 2015, I came to Duston's to get some sandwiches. I have been coming to this place for years as I used to swim for Seacoast Swimming and therefore often had meets across the street. On Sunday, I called first to try to place the order over the phone so it would be ready to pick up when I arrived. The phones at Duston's were not working. Not a big deal; I would go order the sandwiches and wait while they were being made. I was treating my girlfriend to lunch that day, and I did not mind the wait. When I arrived, I ordered a tuna and a roast beef sub. I waited about 10 minutes while they were made and took the two sandwiches, and nothing else, to the checkout. At the checkout, the cashier said something about the credit card system having problems due to the phones not working. I swiped my card, and the cashier said it didn't work. I swiped a different card. The cashier then told me that they could not accept plastic due to the phones not working. She then suggested that I go to the nearest ATM, withdraw some cash, and come back for my sandwiches. I told the cashier that if I were to leave, I would not be coming back, and that there were no signs on the doors as I came in to tell me of Duston's ability to only take cash. I told the cashier that I had waited for several minutes for my sandwiches and that, since the sandwiches were going to be thrown away if I left, that they could just give me the sandwiches and have a happy customer. The cashier told me that this was not possible. During my conversation with the cashier, she looked at the next person in line and asked him if he had cash. The man said, "yes, but if I didn't I would be in the same boat as this guy". To summarize, I spend about 15 minutes to be embarrassed in a store that I have patronized for most of my life. After waiting for 2 sandwiches, I was told that, rather than give the sandwiches to me for free, the store would rather throw them away. This treatment at Duston's is somewhat new. Within the last several months, however, I have had several problems there. The last time I had sandwiches there, there was a twist tie in my girlfriend's sub. A few months ago, we were there and there was an obviously moldy muffin in the day old section. I do not plan on ever going back. read more

But there is a nice lunch counter in the back, that has a standard menu of subs, chicken tenders, and potato wedges, and a rotating selection of various other prepared hot food items. A nice little place to grab some take-out lunch. There are a few tables if you're looking for a place to sit and eat, but not many. The bakery section is also a constant source of breakfast platters for where I work. It's quite popular among different departments here. There dessert items look good, but I've not tried most of them. Only drawback is that the lunch counter, bakery, and store parts of the place all funnel through the same cashier at the front, which can sometimes be a little slow at peak hours.
