Incredibly friendly staff that sounded like they've been running the family business for decades, a bright and comfortable space, and an arcade machine! I highly recommend stopping by for a bite or to grab a snack to take home. My friends and I tried a significant sampling and will definitely be back. Meatball calzone - made fresh in the morning on their homemade bread, this isn't the thick crusty calzone you're thinking of. It's more like a long stick bread, packed with meatballs, sauce and cheese on the inside. They cut one into three for us, and served with a separate cup of marinara dipping sauce each! Lobster Tail pastry and cannoli: fantastic pastries. I've had many of each of these, and DeStefano's had some of the best. The lobster tail was light and incredibly flaky, the cannoli had some crunch without being hard or overly sweet. The chocolate chip cookie also had chunks of butterscotch (?) and was perfectly cooked--I know saying perfectly cooked sounds crazy, but I don't think I've ever had another cookie that nailed the crispy/soft line so well. Can't wait to head back to Portsmouth so I can visit again!

The pizza was warmed up nicely, and Carlson enjoyed his slice. We also ordered an Italian cold cut sandwich, which was fresh, well layered, and very filling. This place is more than just a quick bite, it's a full Italian market and deli. They have a great selection of authentic Italian groceries, cheeses, deli meats, premade sandwiches, and drinks. The prepared food section really stood out: homemade potato salad, chickpea salad, three-bean salad, freshly made mozzarella, stuffed peppers, lasagna, eggplant parmesan, huge meatballs, and more, everything looked delicious and freshly made. There's seating available with a counter and tables, and they also have a bathroom, which is always appreciated when you're out with kids. The atmosphere feels welcoming and family-friendly, and it's easy to pop in for pizza or leave with a full meal plan. One small thing to note is that I didn't notice a handicap-accessible door at the front entrance, though it may be available elsewhere. Overall, a great local market with quality food, lots of variety, and that classic Italian deli feel. Definitely a spot we'd come back to for lunch, take-out, or grabbing specialty items.

Pretty underwhelming looking building with a lot of cars all parked poorly...even though there was plenty of parking spaces. My guess is they were excited and/or in a rush for a delicious sandwich? Yes...that's probably it!! There were about 6 people inside waiting for their orders and probably another 6 sitting and eating. Thankfully there were a couple of open seats for us. Since we don't eat in our car. While we waited for our sandwiches, we watched the staff and customers. Many seemed to be regulars from the area, as they knew exactly what they wanted and how they wanted their sandwich. We did not..LOL we stared at the lunch board for a bit an decided to go with a couple of the special named sandwiches. The staff was pretty quiet, heads down, working fast with an immense amount of focus. I chose the Honey Bee sandwich - it was soooo good. The honey mustard was a great twist. The sandwich was also beautifully made. Ingredients carefully stacked - just the right amount of honey mustard. The pleasant surprise....the zesty pita chips...sooooo addictive! We hope to be back in this area again soon to try their sandwiches. Again, the inside is very small - get it to go if you aren't able to find a seat. It's worth getting it to go, rather than not getting a sandwich and pita chips.

Sold sandwich! Great spot! The gentleman walked our subs over to our seat, very kind!read more

I just happened upon this place that is right next to Walgreens just expecting to get a sandwich at…read morelunchtime, I wasn't expecting to much just something to fill my hunger, what I got was a new favorite sandwich shop. The first thing you notice is that it feels like a franchise and not a great sandwich shop, don't let this sway you. I ordered a reuben, deli style (extra meat), and was completely and utterly thrown back, this huge sandwich that I was presented was quite possibly the best reuben I've ever eaten, but me being a bit skeptical I thought that perhaps it was because I was so hungry, I'd have to take one for the team and come back again to see if that was the case. That rueben left me full for the rest of the day. The next day I headed back at dinner and ordered the Philly Cheese Steak, I was going to go with the half but went whole instead, but I learned from my mistake yesterday and didn't order it deli style. Once again the presented me with a huge sandwich that didn't disappoint in the taste department. Most of the time when you order a sandwich from a franchise chain that is packed full of meat it still lacks flavor, not so with Gandolfo's Deli, the sandwiches are huge (even the half sandwich is big) and are packed with flavor. Price wise, they are a little more expensive than there competitors, if you can actually say that Q or S are true competitors, but in my opinion it was not only worth every penny you will find yourself finishing off the sandwich even if you are full, it is that good. UPDATE - 5/30/2012 Unfortunately I can't stand by my four star rating anymore, Gandolfo's has changed since the last time I was there and it wasn't for the better. I understand that custom made sandwiches take time to produce and I am not complaining about the speed but getting a sandwich with wilted lettuce, very little meat and after a very short ride home very soggy bread is really unacceptable. I believe that this will be the absolute last time that I'll go to Gandolfo's especially when just about a mile up the road is a much better sandwich.

Not sure why some of the negatives... Been here a few times and really like it. Huge selection of…read moresandwiches with some unique variations, friendly staff, clean place, and have had a great sandwich each time. Definitely a much better choice than any of the big sandwich franchises.
