Stopped for lunch at yelpers' recommendation during an I-81 road trip. A perfect pitstop. Service was attentive and friendly. Kielbasa sandwich was delicious. Side of potato pancakes were crunchy coating and meaty inside. We ordered a side of applesauce for the pancakes which was also very flavorful. Tuna sandwich was very good. Turkey sandwich was a thick slice of home-roasted turkey as promised. Thick cut crinkle chips and birch beer rounded out the experience. What prevents the fifth star was a disappointing crab bisque soup that had no crab and no crab flavor, only potato. But don't let that stop you from coming. This was a really fine meal. read more

The food is terrible. My family was on a road trip and we were starving so we decided to eat lunch there. The chicken in my salad was rubbery and fake. My daughter got a burger and said it was extremely salty. My son got a hot dog and it tasted like absolutely nothing. My husband got a sandwich and there was one thin slice of deli meat on it. Even the french fries had no salt or flavor at all. HOW DO YOU MESS UP FRIES. Our waitress didnt come to our table to ask how the food was or refill our drinks or anything. We sat for 15 minutes waiting for our check and they were not even busy. I would NOT recommend Dutch kitchen to anyone who likes to actually TASTE their food. read more

Me and my family went here for a nice dinner. The atmosphere is very nice inside, and they have their own salad bar in teh dining room with several tables, both large and small, and were easily able to seat our table of 8. They gave us free bread with our meals, and it was good. The soda (Pepsi and Mt. Dew), did not taste like Pepsi or Mt. Dew. I ordered Spaghetti with Sausage, the sauce was a bit watered down and they didn't give you much to begin with. They give you one sausage cut in half, and it was actually pretty damn good. I had to put a lot of salt on my spaghetti though to give it flavor. Everyone else loved their food, however and had nothing bad to say about it, so I guess I was simply the unlucky one. My friend did say the apple sauce was not good, but my mom had the same thing and said the applesauce was delicious. The service was actually really good, so I'm not sure where the bad reviews from service are coming from. This place was great. The interior is classic 'American diner' style but with a lot of extra interior space built onto the side to accommodate large crowds. Good food and reasonable prices exist here. But I suppose I would have to try something other than a breakfast to find anything exceptionally "Dutch" on the menu. Seriously folks.. Great local restaurant with delicious food. The spaghetti and meatballs were amazing. I also loved the garlic bread that came with it. The sauerkraut ant sausage were delicious. All along the counter are cake displays with the amazing looking desserts. We had a slice of the chocolate cake and the blueberry pie - both amazing. The chef salad was heavy on the meat and cheese. The only food I didn't like as much was an appetizer of Mrs T's pierogis. They were too hard / fried / frozen. The service was super friendly and responsive. 4 stars may be a bit generous as the food is average in my experience, but the service and atmosphere are good. I encourage anyone in the area to try it. The menu is varied, leaning heavily on Pennsylvania Dutch and traditional American fare. While it's hard to be great as this is a rather bland style of cuisine, everything appeared to be executed competently, with the exception of the blinis, a local delicacy, which were truly outstanding. I'm not a local - I live in Massachusetts - and I recommend this spot to anyone travelling on Rt 81. Far better experience than being shuttled through a prefab theme park restaurant like Cracker Barrel. read more

Haven't been here in a few years, used to have many a family dinner here years ago.. But things changed and not for the better. I went in today a little apprehensive, bUt this was a Funeral Dinner for an elderly cousin who loved to dine here. We had an open menu so the sky was the limit. My husband and I had Crab AuGratin. I had a piping hot large baked potato and a salad with the best blue cheese dressing, thick and creamy with plenty of chunky bits. Our waitress, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, brought us plenty of fresh baked bread and lots of soft enough to spread butter.Others ordered the Prime Rib Special which looked tender and juicy. Also ordered was a cheesesteak sandwich and a grilled cheese and vegetables sandwich that I may be ordering next time. The waitress seemed very patient with one or two of our older more particular family members. Even tho we were all together for a solemn occasion, I have to say this was the best meal we've had here in years. 5pm with only two other tables in the whole place and it was 10 minutes before a waitress came over, slapped menus down and walked away grumbling. The waitress was selective about what they did and didn't have...telling one table with three kids that they had no chocolate milk then offering to make it with milk and chocolate syrup for another table. The menu offered peach tea, which the waitress said was seasonal, only for us to see the Lipton peach tea bottles in the cooler after our drinks were served. Burgers ordered medium came out well done while frozen fries were soggy. A better choice would have been the Cracker Barrel down the road. read more

We were on the road and looking for someplace to eat. Read the nice reviews about this place so we decided to give it a try. Disappointed. Wanted to really like it. Diner type menu with really something for everyone. Waitress asked a member of our party if she wanted croutons on the salad, she said no but the salad came with the croutons anyway. Salad was disappointing made mostly of iceberg lettuce. Same person ordered the baked cod. So salty it was nearly inedible. My husband and I shared the tuna club and the special spinach salad thinking the portions would be large. Anything but. The dressing for the salad was mostly oil. Asked for vinegar and was brought a squeeze bottle of white vinegar. Service was friendly. Floor was dirty - littered. When we came out and saw a Subway across the street I thought we should've eaten there. read more

Food is OK. Slow service with mistakes and an unapologetic attitude. My husband's salad never arrived. My son's order should come with two sides: mashed potato and broccoli. Yummy place to stop if you're in PA! I've been twice and had turkey croquettes both times that were delicious! Also, don't miss their great selection of pies...I had cherry pie a la mode which was out of this world! Food was good (regular diner fare with a Pennsylvania Dutch / ethnic Eastern European side. I've eaten here before so knew what to expect. I invited out of town friends who were staying at the Holiday Inn Express for a later dinner. We ate bleenies (deep fried and a bit too overfried for my taste-- dark, hard and beyond crisp) but the perogies were good. I've now had more than my share of fried for the week. The Dutch Kitchen is a great choice if you like scratch made American food. Diner style and like I remember from years ago when I worked in Central PA. Typical for this part of PA. Good quality. You can get breakfast all day long here - it's one of the few local restaurants that actually serves scrapple. They have a wide variety of other foods, all homemade. It's a great diner atmosphere and the staff is always pleasant and efficient.
