The majority of the offerings are based on their raised yeast dough which is light, but still has some satisfying density and substance. If you want solid substance go for the cake style. Pumpkin is in season. Some gems: Nutella twist. A long fluffy pasty cream spiked with nutella. A delicious standard for you chocolate lovers that don't want to go hardcore with a ganache boston cream. Decadance is the bacon maple twist. A bacon wrapped circle of dough, unglazed but served with an in-your-face bacon fat maple syrup dip. A friend of mine said he wishes he could eat food like this in bed with his favorite lady. That's the kind of sin you will find in this donut. Coffee cream filled-why hasn't anyone made me this donut before??? It is very much like having a donut with a frothy creamy latte in one bite. It's heaven for a coffee lover like me. Cream sticks, I tried the powder sugar coated one (vs. ganache glazed option #2) is unique in shape and cream filling. It is pastry cream as you'd expect but a decidedly very intense rich vanilla flavor that is unusual in donut shops. The raspberry filled is just crazy fresh in flavor. There is love in this filling. Lemon filled (vs. Lemon meringue) has a homemade lemon curd that is buttery dense and the one that felt most decadent of the bunch. It's not that gelatinous muck you find pushed inside your chain donut shops lemon donut. Latte is super smooth and medium richness. This sweet is worth going out of your way for. Key Lime Bismark, I wish to write an ode to you, but the true glory was that maple bacon butter thing and I don't know that it had a proper name; but it doesn't really matter now does it? It had a date with my tastebuds and they hit it off well. Jeri informed me that the cream stick was worth being coated in a thin layer of sugar powder to devour. One thing I've learned on Yelp is that one man's yum is another man's meh. I'm glad Dutch Monkey has such loyal followers, I love supporting local businesses. But... I was underwhelmed. I will grant you, I only had one donut. The Boston Cream. The cream was... gritty. The chocolate on the top was gritty. The donut itself was very greasy on the bottom. I didn't even finish it. The shop is cute, but oddly laid out. LOVE that kids can watch the goings on in the kitchen. My big complaint about the shop itself was that it was REALLY warm in there. So... I went. Found out about this place while watching renovation realities on DIY network. Been looking for a good donut place around town tried a few wasn't very impressed. I think I may have had too high of expectations coming here with all the rave reviews. If you are a lover of doughnuts with filling, you'll love this place...lots of flavors and options . The doughnuts are huge, especially the bars and twists. I'm not as much a fan of the doughnuts without fillings, as they are a little dry. The flavors are also a bit subtle...the Dutch monkey doughnut is supposed to be banana and chocolate, but to me, the flavors were not as prevalent as the doughnut was very sweet and was a little overwhelmed by all the sugar (I know it's a doughnut and should be sweet, but it wasn't much else besides sweet). They have soda in glass bottles and Counter Culture coffee, which I enjoyed. The shop has a great vibe, with some small table and communal table seating both indoors and outdoors, located in a plaza. I haven't made it out there but had some delivered to me instead. Ok, I'll just dive right into it. Their signature Dutch Monkey donut, which consist of a peanut butter cream filling topped with sliced bananas smothered in chocolate ganache. I mean, do I really have to explain this any further than orgasmic? I've also had the Red Velvet Cake and Oh Em Gee, it's just some kind of wonderful goodness in my mouth. My palate was ruptured with giddiness. It's not too sweet and has the perfect dense for texture. The cream cheese icing was absolutely perfect. The rest... is history. I honestly can't stop saying enough nice things about Dutch monkey. I'm in love with their doughnuts. I take as many people as I can to that place when I'm in the area. I'd marry the bacon wrapped doughnut if it were legal. Since it's not..I'm forced to make Bambi eyes at it and stuff my face with them every chance possible. Dutch Monkey is a Doughnut Shop that you would see featured on "Unique Sweets" or "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Cooking Channel and you'd say to yourself "I wish I had a place like that in my community!". Well Cumming GA, we do! This place is simply amazing. From the moment you walk in the door, it's a sensory overload. The sweet smell of doughnuts is in the air with a hint of freshly brewed coffee. There are several small tables with a huge communal table in the center of this small space where people are enjoying handmade gourmet doughnuts off paper plates. And the crown jewel, the reason we're all there, the display case: filled with a wide selection of treats that make your mouth water from the moment you step in line. I arrived around 10am on a Sunday morning and the place was packed! The line was at least 10 people deep, but the hard working staff keeps the line moving with a smile. There were so many choices, so I decided to sample a few. I rarely eat doughnuts but I made the exception for Dutch Monkey and my stomach and taste-buds were glad I did. The Coffee Buttercream Doughnut is delectable. The name says it all: Coffee, buttercream, and a doughnut. What more could you ask for?! As you bite into this tasty creation, your taste-buds thank you. This over-sized treat is filled to the max with the right ratio of coffee flavor to buttercream. I would recommend this to anyone who loves coffee. I also ordered the Sweet Potato Maple Bismark. Once again, this doughnut did not disappoint! The sweet potato doughnut is covered with the right amount of maple syrup and nuts that keeps you wanting more. This sweet treat was amazing. I haven't stopped thinking about this place since I visited and my mouth is watering as I write this review. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great doughnut shop. I have yet to go to Sublime, but Dutch Monkey has stolen my doughnut heart! Though my Yelp check-ins don't line up with this statement, I have been going here for about 3 years, on and off. I've had the plain raised and buttermilk cake doughnuts, as well as the passionfruit and eggnog bismarcks, the lemon poppyseed cake, the raspberry and strawberry glazed yeast ones, and the cinnamon sugar stick. I think there are a few others whose flavors/names elude me. This is not to say that the doughnuts are not memorable; in fact, they are absolutely divine and if you do not live in the area, just hop up 400 N and pay these fine folks a visit. Get a bunch of doughnuts for the drive back home. I bet none will even survive the trip (I speak from personal experience). read more

I bought a nutella twist, the signature dutch monkey doughnut, and a s'mores doughnut as well as a kid-sized dutch monkey hot chocolate. dutch monkey hot chocolate consists of a cocoa-brick and a marshmallow made in-house, some hot water and some banana flavoring. kid-sized was enough for me. drink it while its hot! as if the sugar rush from the hot chocolate wasn't enough, i decided to eat a whole dutch monkey. to clarify, it's dulce de leche cream inside a yeast doughnut, topped with chocolate covered bananas. everything is made in-house (except for the apple and orange juice) so it's fresh and delicious. service was great on a Wednesday morning at 7:30. the kind lady behind the counter gave my friend a free doughnut after she purchased a dozen. psssss...it's 20% off your order if you buy a dozen. definitely a better deal than buying individually. please pardon this reviewer for not talking about the smores and nutella goodness - she's currently bouncing off the walls like a monkey. read more

My peer got a good selection of 10 kinds of donuts from DM for a friday breakfast club even though the donuts out numbered the people in the club we ran out of those yummy donuts by lunch time. Ok so this place is a bit of a trek from in-town Atlanta. But the drive is well worth it! DMD (as they are called by their super fans) uses high-quality ingredients and their menu of doughnuts is well thought out with seasonal ingredients. They have their standard doughnuts which they make daily. But it's their daily specials (which you can find via Twitter and/or Facebook) that is worthwhile checking this place out on a daily basis! Always something different. I hate to make comparisons but DMD's doughnuts are much larger than Sublime Doughnut's. And after eating a DMD doughnut, you don't get that sick ill feeling that you ate a full pound of sugar! My family has been on a doughnut kick lately, so during a recent shopping excursion, we based our choice of outlet mall solely on the fact that we could try Dutch Monkey Doughnuts on the way. Many more accomplished Yelpers have written recent comprehensive reviews, so I will just reiterate to go early for the best selection, and the coffee is quality, so grab a cup. And I will add that the chocolate sour cream cake doughnut changed my life. The distance makes it too far to go just for doughnuts alone (especially when Sublime and Dough in the Box are so much closer to me), but if I ever have a reasonable excuse to head up that way, you better believe I'm making a stop at DMD. read more

Today we tried: - Bacon Jalapeño Cheddar Fritter: one of our favorite - original Dutch Monkey onut: a dulce de leche filled dream, topped with bananas topped with chocolate - Nutella Twist: I think the nutella must be mixed with whipped creme, because it's light and fluffy - Strawberry bar: this was the best! A light cake covered with fresh strawberrys, whipped creme, and chocolate syrup - some kind of bacon wrapped maple syrup thingy: I can't find it on their menu, but it was awesome They also have great Counter Culture coffee, as well as many other drinks. Nothing invokes a smile on a Saturday morning like receiving a text from the wife upstairs asking if I want to go to Dutch Monkey. It's a bit of a hike, but a place I'm willing to travel a bit for. I must say I'm a fan of doughnuts in general, and so far I've been fairly pleased with my experiences there. Here's a breakdown of the doughnuts I've sampled so far. I'm going to be honest, and while I may sound critical here, they are all very good. Just sayin'. Dutch Monkey- not what I was expecting at all. The real banana filling actually threw me for a loop a bit. While unique, I couldn't see myself longing for one days from now. Plus, since the wife has an aversion to bananas in general (don't ask), I probably won't be having one again. Butter/Maple Bacon- First off, I am a huge fan of bacon. HUGE! However, this is not my first rodeo when it comes to doughnuts and bacon. Voodoo Doughnut's infamous Bacon Maple Bar haunts my dreams, and since I grew up in the Portland OR area I had nearly unlimited access. This DMD concoction is good- a raised twisted with bacon and covered in butter and maple syrup, I mean...how can you go wrong? But it's not as sweet as I would have liked, and the bacon wasn't as crispy as expected- thus not offering much of a contrast in texture to the doughnut itself. Again good...but falls short of the Bacon Maple Bar er, bar. Strawberry Glazed- I don't know what it is, but I've always been drawn to the pink doughnut. I'm sure some therapist somewhere would have a comment on it, but hey, I like the pink one. At a normal doughnut shop, if you get the pink one, it's usually a very dense, sickeningly sweet little guy. But notice how it's referred to as the pink one...because it's so sweet and devoid of any real flavor that pink is the only way to describe it. Not so with DMD..you can actually TASTE the strawberry in it. And the actual doughnut isn't some hard little dense puck...it's light and airy but still with some consistency to pull it apart. I really like this one...a lot. Jelly filled (mixed berry)- Again, like the pink one above, you can actually taste the filling! Another plus...it's huge! I mean, this thing is about the size of a baseball, which adds some fun to the sheer act of eating it. And DMD takes care of another doughnut pet peeve of mine...if it's a filled, let's see some filling! Nothing irks me more than a filled with just a teeny bit of filling in the middle. At DMD...the thing is jammed packed with tasty goodness! Again, more difficult to eat but oh so enjoyable. Coffee Buttercream Bavarian- OK, they got me. Just like the jelly filled above, this was packed with sweet creamy goodness. The hint of coffee comes through, and offsets the very sweet filling well. The actual doughnut was a bit chewy, but I didn't mind at all. I think I'd have to call this one my favorite, and will probably be returning on short order to try and get another one. As far as the place is concerned..it's not huge (doesn't have to be), but decorated in bright, whimsical colors that add to the fun. The employees have always seemed very pleasant and willing to chat a bit if you are up for it. Seating is a little limited- a few bar seats by the windows, two or three smaller tables, and one gigantor table that can seat 12 or so. For people that don't mind sharing, the big table offers lots of space. However many of the folks I've seen would probably give you a look if you sat at the other end if they were already there. That has nothing to do with Dutch Monkey though. If you're in the area, stop by and check them out! read more

Great frequent customer punch card allows for free donuts. They have a delicious vanilla chai--better than Starbucks. Reasonably priced. Nice décor. Family friendly. Some of the donuts are overly sweet for me and I've tried them all but my favorites are chocolate iced with sprinkles, lemon Bismarck and the salted caramel bars with nuts. Delish! read more

Why oh why oh why oh why does this place have to be so far away? I'd love to say it's worth the drive but it's just so long. If you're passing through you had better stop though, both ways. In fact since I didn't do so on my way to the Dragon this year I am taking a dozen up there next year and not sharing with my friends to make up for it. The flavors are awesome. For Christmas they have had some cool ones. I had a MASSIVE donut shaped like a candy cane, complete with mint flavored frosting for $2.75. You still have this week to go eat some of those. The Dutch Monkey namesake donut is ridiculous too. It's banana and chocolate. They have plenty of filled donuts, twists, eclairs (bars) and everything is so pretty. The prettiest one is the lemon meringue. Only downsides: 1. They serve their coffee WAY too hot. I couldn't even drink it until half an hour after we left, and I had even put milk in it. 2. They serve donuts on paper plates. They will make your hands a mess. I wish they had waxy type paper that they put the donut in first so it would be easier to eat. I guess you could always cut up the donut but that's no fun. A good medium would be nice. 3. They sell these bread loaf cat stuffed animals and I can't buy them all. read more

I've been following this place for several years on Instagram and today was the day the stars aligned and I was able to swing by and eat. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED :) We ordered the coffee buttercream donut, the fresh raspberry bar and the blueberry/ginger/lemon fritter plus a cup of hot chocolate and a cup of hot coffee. The coffee donut had just the right amount of filling and the cake was tasty. The raspberry bar and fritter were the perfect mix of sweet and tart. Their spin on hot chocolate beats the chain stores hands down (dark chocolate & homemade marshmallow) and the coffee was so smooth little sweetener was necessary. When you take two classically trained chefs, who have worked in some of New York's best restaurants, and have them making doughnuts, DMD is what you get - the best doughnuts I've ever had. My two favorites?
