Our furnace stopped blowing warmed air at around 4pm and the house dipped to 64 degrees with the night temps predicted to fall to -3 outside. We called 2 places before we called Dutchman on a Sunday after 5pm. They are the only ones that actually answered and called us back. By 6:30pm our furnace was fixed! AC system had refrigerant leak. Had them fixed it 2 years ago and paid $1800. Had the same problem this week and paid them additional $1080 today. I trusted that they 'd do the job and look for the leak to fix it properly given the amount of money paid. I did some research afterwards and realize that they simply inject the dye sealant package ($50 cost) to do a temporary cover up which highly likely I will see a leak soon. It is very disappointing. Here is the invoice showing how they charge for an hour work today. Charged $262.50 to inject the sealant, and charged refrigerant by $175 / lb. My AC is 6 years old. - Updated after talking to the owner of the company. The owner told me on the phone that it will cost me $2000 + if they are conducting the leak search . As of 10/03/2024. The AC has failed, less than 10 days they have "fixed " the leak. They absolutely deserve a 1-star review. It is a borderline scam company. Make sure you get a quote from them and have them explain what they do to your system before agreeing to allow them to do any job. Had another company came out and identify the leak at the condenser within 30 mins. It was obvious due to oil presents where it shouldn't . Dutchman fool their customers in my case. I've used Dutchman for a few years now as part of an annual maintenance contract for my AC and heater. They promptly call to schedule the fall and spring services. Clint, the technician, always arrives during the scheduled time slot. He is courteous and knowledgeable and explains the work he is doing. The heater is from the mid-90s and Clint tells me I'm lucky it is still functioning properly. Only one time has there been a need to replace a part. AC is less than ten years old and in good order. Yes, like a restaurant if you get food poisoning from one meal, don't need to try anything else on the menu. Horrible experience... No business sense. We requested a furnace tune up/cleaning as well as a diagnostic for a furnace turning on and off much to often. When I called around 830am I was told Matt could come out between 12-3 that same day. I told the lady on the phone my wife needed to leave at 245 to pick up our kids from school and the lady told me "that's ok, he will probally be there closer to noon". Forward to 130 and Matt finally calls to inform he will be there in 5-10 minutes. At 140 Matt arrives. At 230 Matt is finished cleaning our furnace (didn't not provide a new furnace filter) and with the diagnostic. I speak with him over the phone from my job and Matt informs me our nest thermostat is garbage and the furnace needs a new sensor. He offers two options to repair. One is just over $900 and the other is $1066, but comes with an additional three furnace cleanings. I told him let's do the more expensive option and asked him if he will finish by 245. Matt replied "No". I said no problem, but also asked him to verify he would not charge me to come back out and finish the job. Matt replied, "I don't work for free, so you expect me to come out here again for free". After, explaining I had told the lady who scheduled my appointment we needed to be all finished by 245 so my wife could get our kids from school Matt disregarding this and said he couldn't wait until 340 for her to get home either. He began to argue with me regarding his trip fee or his overtime and I told him to finish the furnace cleaning and leave my home. $200 for a furnace cleaning and diagnostic later Matt was out my door and I called his company and left a voicemail regarding this horrible experience and they never called me back. Therefore, I am leaving this review to help others who might be looking to hire this company. I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole and I caution anyone from bringing them into your home. read more

Our furnace stopped heating late one recent Saturday night. Called Dutchman and they scheduled a service appointment for the next morning. Technician Clint called 15 min before the scheduled time to let us know he was on the way. He quickly identified the issue as a malfunctioning thermostat, replaced it with a new Aprilaire thermostat, and checked the furnace for any other issues. Very efficient and professional. The defective thermostat was a 25-yr old Honeywell programmable unit. Might be good idea to have a spare mechanical one handy just in case. read more

I think it's fair to say I have "trust issues" with HVAC repairmen. I've been told one thing by one company, and something else by another. I've been told my AC unit was failing and would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,500 when in fact all it needed was a new capacitor ($50). Needless to say, I just stopped using them completely. First, that is a BAD IDEA! I hadn't had my HVAC unit serviced in years and it badly needed service. Second, I am happy to report that I've finally found a company I can trust - Dutchman Heating & Cooling. Our water heater stopped working recently. It was very old. Our technician, Matt, explained the situation, laid out all the options, and wasn't pushy one way or another. He tried everything he could to keep the old unit alive, going above and beyond my expectations. And also gave me some helpful tips to keep in mind for the future. Ultimately we did have to replace the water heater. They quoted us a fair price (I shopped around to make sure), and then installed the new unit and disposed of the old unit the FOLLOWING DAY that our old unit stopped working. We were without hot water for less than 24 hours. These guys are great. I feel that I can trust them, which is the most important thing to me. I now have a seasonal maintenance contract with them to ensure everything is working properly. They offer very competitive pricing for this area, and I feel I'm getting good value given the high quality of service. read more

We already are regular customers for spring/fall system checkups. The office called to setup our usual service. Because of that call we checked our AC and found that our compressor was not cycling on. I was anxious about having a repair technician come to our home during the shutdown. That was out of Mike@ Dutchman 's control they helped me with the tremendous amount of red tape getting com Ed to address the issue this caused damage to the new unit . I am giving them a 3 * only because I am giving them the benefit of doubt. Depending on any responses to this I'd like to either change to a 5 or 1. The big job was that they installed a new AC but the events preceding and succeeding it taken together, is leading to my dissatisfaction. Here is the situation. I hired Dutchman to do a health check of AC and furnace. They told me that it's old and that I should start planning to replace both but they gave me a clean bill of health and that it was working well. So I figured I should be good for 2 seasons. But 2 weeks later my AC broke down. I decided that it was not worth repairing and I called Dutchman to replace the AC. So they replaced the AC and I shelled out close to 6k. They did their job and I was more thankful I had air than anything else. Now I started noticing that there was a grinding noise from the furnace/AC box. I called them and told them about the noise and that it started right after they left. They said they will check it out and will fix it if it's their doing otherwise I'll have to pay for fixes. I didn't like it ( since it started right after they left) and remember I got a clean bill of health during the seasonal checkup. But ok. I figured if it was a furnace issue then I might as well get the furnace replaced through them. Now the tech came over and told me that it was the motor in the blower and nothing to do with the AC. He also told me that if I was ok with the noise then there is nothing wrong with the unit. I figured I'll call Dutchmen next year to get it replaced. Now I get a bill of $90. I said no way. You give me a clean bill of health by taking $145 then you replace my AC (for nearly 6k ) working near that furnace AC area. I then get the grinding sound right after you leave. And you have the gall to ask me for $90 to check it out? I am not asking them to fix the noise. But at least don't charge me the $90! So I called up and essentially told them the 3 options. Either their folks are incompetent or their business practices are dubious or it's just plain coincidence that I am getting this grinding noise. I wouldn't have charged the $90 to keep the customer satisfaction especially since there are so many elements of doubt in the customer's eyes. But hey that's me. So Dutchmen was upset that I called them a liar and that they don't want business from people like me since I even doubted their business practices. I only told them to look through my eyes and see the situation. Look at the 3 options. If he had told me that it was just plain coincidence I may not have been that upset. But then I figured that maybe this is the way this industry goes so I can't blame Dutchmen for that. Hence this post - to really understand what other repair/ install folks would have done. I'd also like to hear from other customers to see If my reaction was justified. He kept telling me that he had to pay his people. I did pay up. I didn't want to be the reason for the tech to not get paid especially during these difficult times. read more

These guys installed my furnace 9 years ago with a 10 year manufacturers warranty. Heat exchanger now has rust which caused holes in the pipes resulting in CO2 escaping. I didn't use Dutchman to maintain the equipment ad instead had a contract with Golden Seal based out of St Charles. Dutchman told me they would not honor warranty on the equipment without physical copies of invoices going back 9 years which in my view is unrealistic and simply a way to make me go away. Mission accomplished and not only will I never darken their doors again but am posting this to make others aware that the so called 'warranty' is not worth the paper it is written on. read more

After 5 weeks of arguing with my warranty company for my appliance and air conditioning unit, I finally gave in and called Dutchman. As I was told by my warranty service provider that I would need to buy an entire new AC system, Dutchman's great technician, Matt, found the part that was broken in my 17 year old AC unit. Dishonest, and will charge you as much as they think they can get away with. They came to perform preventive maintenance while everything was working fine. Showed me the furnace that was not running and quoted $250 to order a part. Told them no and sent them off. Later I checked and saw that they turn the power switch off to make it stop working. My furnace went out and Danny came out in the middle of night to troubleshoot the problem. He found the problem and but the part was not available immediately. I paid for expedited service and then the part came in within two days. Danny installed it and it is working fine. Danny was good and very helpful. Dutchman's hourly rate is $90/hour. The reason for my rating was Mike from Dutchman decided to charge me nearly $180 for 1-hour on Danny's installation time. Additionally, he tacked on $45 "Travel charge" and my house is 0.2 miles from Dutchman location in Naperville. It shouldn't take more than 3 minutes by car and maybe 10-12 minutes walking. Don't understand the gouging here ! I am all for willing to pay the right price for the job, I also earn my money working hard ! The second reason was the appointment to show-up between 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Danny showed up at approx. 3:10-3:15 PM and he called me at 2:55 to tell me would be there, but I would appreciated a little more notice since my other plans had to be cancelled. Next time if I "have to" use Dutchman then I would negotiate early and ask for Danny for service. read more

I called and talked to two different women, the second woman was i talked to said i was wrong and i had a appt. from 1-3 PM, after i told her that my neighbor had a appt. from 12-2PM she said no i was wrong and the neighbor was from 1-3PM window and i was from 2-4PM at which time i said she was so full of crap she couldn't keep up with her own BS. Instead of just saying we screwed up and trying to fix the problem and get the service guy back to my house she keep trying to justify her BS story, I told her thanks that i would hire some one else and have a nice day. Your highly trained tech was paid $90 for the half hour onsite on top of parts. The part price of $212 you charged for a $25 dual run capacitor was not an online price unavailable to you. That $25 cost is available to you through Graingers, Johnstone Supply or a dozen other HVAC supply house within 25 miles of Naperville. I spent 30 years in maintenance Engineering in this area and know costs. You charge whatever you can get away with to the public. Oh by the way I am quite cool since I boycott Dutchman. I did pay premium for Saturday visit, but I was back in business in 15 minutes. Yaser was a great guy who also did a quick clean out and advised how best to set my thermostat for max efficiency.
