I couldn't be more pleased with my new zoning system. I have a two story 4,000ft home that has been altered and added onto throughout the years. With all the reconfigurations and the addition I put on one thing that I never changed was the configuration of my HVAC system as I have just the single unit. In the summer I would need to drop the thermostat down to 66 in order to get the 2nd floor to cool to 72. In the winter the 2nd floor was an inferno in order to get the first floor to be comfortable. I tirelessly adjusted the dampers and nothing would help it. I even installed brand new windows in several rooms because I could feel they were getting drafty. I researched a lot and talked to people about my situation and many suggested adding another system. I talked to Travis in hopes of pricing a second system and he quickly tried to talk me out of it. He explained that a better more cost effective option would be to install a zoning system so that each room could maintain its own temperature. He said the cost of not only installing the 2nd system but also the ongoing maintenance and repair costs didn't seem like the best option for me. I was hesitant to not go with the second system because I just felt that due to the size of my home a second system would be needed. I finally decided to go with the advice of Travis and do the zoning system and let's just say it's the single best upgrade I've ever done to my home. I am writing the review on a 90* day and my home is balanced at 72* throughout and I couldn't be happier. If it weren't for Pillar I would've probably installed the second system and been out thousands more dollars. GET A WRITTEN QUOTE PRIOR TO PILLAR HVAC DOING ANY WORK!! I contacted Travis and discussed what I thought was the problem with my A/C. He gave me a $90 Flat Rate to come out, diagnose and repair. Although he and his employee were knowledgeable, personable and professional, his CHARGES WERE VERY EXPENSIVE and HIS EXPLANATION FOR THE PARTS COST WERE RIDICULOUS. They replaced a contactor and charged me $253.51 for the part!! When I showed him a receipt for that same part being replaced on my other A/C unit in 2019 for $80 labor + $40 part = $120, he told me he has office costs + warehouse costs, etc that make it that expensive!! I later checked online and found the SAME EXACT PART for $14 - $42 at either SupplyHouse or PartsTown!! They were at my home for a total of 35 minutes and his office is maybe 10-15 minutes from my home!! Although Travis gave me a senior discount and bulk discount, he still overcharged me almost $150!!! Travis is very professional, polite, always on time, quick to respond to calls/emails, extremely knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and cleans up after himself. I have used Travis twice, once for major system change and once for minor emergency repair. In August of 2016, Travis installed a Zoning system (3 Zones) with wireless WiFi thermostats for me. I had previously received a quote from another company, which was more expensive and included upgrading the heating & cooling units. During Travis' quote, he fully explained to me how the system would work, the work to be done, and why I DIDN'T need to upgrade those units. Travis could have easily sold me unnecessary upgrades, but didn't. The job was completed on time and with complete satisfaction. Several years ago, approximately 2010/11, my heating stopped working at my old house in the middle of winter. Travis responded quickly. It was a minor part and Travis was able to replace it quickly. Travis told me he felt bad that such an easy/quick fix was going to cost me the emergency/after hours callout fee, so what he did was perform additional cleanup and preventative maintenance to the heating unit. I had the pleasure of meeting Travis earlier this evening and I can attest to the truth of all the other positive reviews he has received thus far. I'm certainly proud to add mine to the list! Travis had already worked all day, but made a promise that he'd stop by after he'd met his other obligations to answer some follow up questions we had regarding an inspection of our AC the day prior. I had some concerns about our electronic air filter and he spent nearly an hour reinspecting it, explaining in detail how it works (or sometimes doesn't work), suggestions as to how to clean and repair it, and alternate options to replace or improve our system. He was very patient and clear in his explanation, which was very much appreciated and he even offered to clean it himself. On his way out he noticed my nest thermostat was all kinds of messed up. The plate it was mounted to didn't fit the junction box that was preinstalled from the previous thermostat so there was a giant hole next to it. Needless to say, it was ugly as hell and had been for some time. They found the AC was leaking refrigerant and were very thorough in showing me and explaining the issue. They presented numerous options to get back up running at various price points; the option I chose was a new unit given the age of the AC. In the interim week between the new install they charged up our AC so the house would be cool during that time. The day of install went smooth. I called this company in a bind because my heat had gone out. We changed the furnace filter and originally thought this helped, but it didn't. I explained to Pillar Heating and Air that we were sitting in the cold, and the man on the other line seemed very dismissive of me. I completely understand their schedule being booked. I don't understand the need to be rude to customers because of that. The guy from Pillar explained that the soonest he could make it out was a week from now. I reiterated that we would have to sit in the cold for a week, and his only reply was "you just said you have a little heat." During a time like this, I didn't appreciate the inference that I was somehow lying or exaggerating about my situation. We called Quality 1 Heating who were completely understanding and able to switch up some things in their schedule. When something happens to our heat/ac, I will only call Travis. We have a heating system that is routinely described as "weird". Our heat comes from our hot water heater (hot water is run through a water/air heat exchanger and blows through our ac vents throughout the house). While this may not apply to your situation, this is what will - 1) Travis gave me a quote over the phone (not an estimate, not a guess, not a range) and to his word he stuck to it. He told me that when he gives a quote, he sticks to it, no matter what. It's obvious he's proud of being true to his word. 2) He did research before beginning work, even to the extent of calling the manufacturer (now out of business) and tracking down an expert who could discuss my heating system, diagnose the problem, and order the correct parts. How many "professionals" would start work, then call for help when they get stuck and stick you with the extra charges? 3) He goes the extra mile to treat your house like he would treat his own. He diagnosed the problem, discussed the fix with me, and added additional touches like a manual valve to cut the system off and placed sheet metal behind the pipes so our nearby walls didn't get damaged while soldering. I've met Travis twice, once for AC and once for our heat. He's a stand up guy, I trust him, and his work never fails to impress. I just can't say more than that. Thanks again, Travis! read more
