so I was going over the reviews and was very surprised at so many good reviews; because my experience was nothing like this. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is true that they were willing to work on my RV sooner than later[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. everything seemed fine with the work until I saw the parts that were being installed. The marine battery had no labels so I had no idea how old it was or when it expired. He said he wired it so that the RV would finally get power lights, the water pump, toilet, etc.. but after trying it myself, it only lasted about half an hour. When he installed the master cylinder and slave drive, they were rusted on the outside to the point where I literally thought this was a joke who puts in rested parts? I am not a mechanic, but I did grow up with my grandpa my brother and many other people in the family being and I just thought this was kind of weird but anyway I got the bill. It was $800 and when I asked for it to be itemized to show exactly what was done he replied that if I wanted that I would more was gonna cost me more! So I took what I could get a few days later I was having issues. I returned with the RV and explained the problems. He asked for me to the keys I was inside the RV standing up and he was in the driver seat. He started the RV started revving. The engine extremely high backed up without telling me and jumped on the road. He was going recklessly fast. I was being tossed around in the back. I asked him. What are you doing? He goes. I'm gonna show you it's fine. He was driving crazy he got on the freeway. He scared the shit out of me and I think that's exactly what he was trying to do. We got back to the shop he's like see it's fine. I was in a state of shock having an anxiety attack close to a seizure. I just took the keys back and go OK thanks and never wanted to see that place again! talk about unprofessional and crazy. read more

I recently had some "ticking" sound coming from my Jeeps 3.6L V6 and the dealers were really no help and their service was absolutely terrible. I was recently referred to Dylan's Automotive by friends in our community and I'm so glad I took it to him. I called a few days before to schedule an appointment and during the call he was professional and courteous taking the time to listen and understand what I believed to be the issue. When I arrived for my appointment, a representative was there to take custody of my vehicle and informed me of what to be expected in the next few hours. Just as described, I got a call from Dylan with his diagnosis and recommendations. I was really reassured and put at ease to find out Dylan called the local dealer had my vin ran for any recalls and even asked about a specific elongated warranty that would have the cost of repair covered by the manufacturer. Unfortunately or fortunately which ever way you look at it, my Jeep didn't qualify for warranty repairs. Dylan recommended a method of repair that would keep the costs as low as possible while achieving the same results. He saved me hundreds of dollars and had the Jeep back and running perfectly in no time at all. I submitted an online inquiry about an oil change for my vehicle. In the exchange, I was informed that using a synthetic blend is more expensive than a pure synthetic oil. My online research found that this is not true. To the contrary it's the other way around. And interacting with other garages in the area confirmed this. I approached this query in good faith, but it appears that Dylan has a different notion of what "honest and reliable" means than me. Dylan is the most honest mechanic I've met in California, and the only one who's gotten a six hundred dollar signed estimate and then said the work didn't need to be done. I was referred to him by a friend, and right away he treated me like family. The first time I took my car to him, he diagnosed a cracked head gasket and plugged the leak with stopleak as a temporary measure. He didn't try to talk me into the engine rebuild, or give me any false promises either. He was very sympathetic to my desire to be as frugal as possible with my auto expenses. When I bought my next car and was told it was due for a timing belt, I knew where to bring it. Dylan explained that his estimate was high because it included ancillary repairs (replacing the water pump, for example) which may or may not be indicated once the timing belt was off. He said he'd rather give a high estimate and knock down the price, than lowball and add a bunch of stuff in later. I also asked him to take a look at a transmission issue. Then he gave me a ride to the coffee shop where I could wait for him to call me. An hour later, he called and said that the timing belt had another year of life in it, and probably wasn't worth doing without assessing the transmission first. So instead of $600 for a job that wasn't urgent, I paid $150 for the tranny repair, which turned out to be much more important. How many mechanics will talk you out of doing a job you've already sign for? read more

I took my car to Dylan to have my clutch replaced, as it started slipping and had a good 90k miles on it. Dylan's quote was a good $100 cheaper than my previous estimate, and I liked the smaller shop, so I gave them a shot. My car runs like a new car now! I have a manual transmission, so after my clutch was swapped out, the drive-ability difference was night-and-day. They did a great job, I'll be coming back soon for another oil change. Hey Yelp Community, So I'm new to Ventura, CA (awesome little beach town). I work a lot out of Santa Barbara, so I'm not too familiar with the local scene, yet. More importantly, I don't really know what local companies to turn to when something goes wrong, like my car! Heading back from my job in Santa Barbara, my car breaks down. The tow truck guy picks me up and gave me the best recommendation for a local Ventura mechanic. I gotta say, that tow truck guy was so right. Dylan's Automotive is awesome and for the right reasons. They are nice, articulate, smart, and most importantly super honest. They gave me a ride back to my house a couple of time while the car getting fixed. They gave me discounts on parts. I even came across a bit of an issue with my car following the initial repair. No questions, they fixed and gave me a an amazing discount on parts. They a real people, with a family feel.
