The food itself is just acceptable, and for the price not great. The atmosphere also still is pretty weak, and the restaurant is small. It's sort of almost like a hole on the wall. On the West Coast, I've eaten at over 30 authentic Japanese restaurants, and for those of you who aren't Japanese restaurant or sushi aficionados... This food is probably fine. Even the dipping sauce couldn't cover its charcoal taste. We both ordered mushu meals, and both came without plum sauce, which is standard with mushu dishes. We asked the young man for plum sauce. He looked confused but went to ask the chef. He came back, saying that the chef had told him the plum sauce was already mixed in. Plum sauce has a strong, sweet flavor, and there was certainly none in our mediocre dishes. The young man then asked the manager, who said that mushu dishes should indeed be served with plum sauce, so we finally got some--no thanks to the chef who had apparently lied to the young server. The young man who waited on us bears no blame, but the cook does. He should have served the food as it was meant to be served, and not lied to to the waiter to cover his oversights.
