My husband and I moved from San Diego, California and have been coming here every single Monday for over a year now. The sushi and sashimi is actually good for the area and price. Not the best you've ever had but if you adjust your expectations for the reality, you'll enjoy yourself. Half price sushi Monday-Wednesday is awesome and is something I look forward to every week. We ate at Saki house last night we were seated at a booth. Waitress was excellent. Cooks behind counter were loud speaking Chinese. The boneless spareribs were dry and burnt. Sushi was good fried rice and crab Rangoon was good. I ate in the other room before and it was good this time not. read more

My first time there. Pros: Food came out hot. Tea was hot. When I asked the server what type of meat (thigh vs breast) they use for their chicken teryaki, he actually knew. Got a pupu platter for 1, at only $13.95, beef lo mein, chicken teriyaki, vegetable fried rice. The chicken teriyaki was the star of the show: huge, plentiful, delicious. The staff were friendly enough with some of the patrons. Cons: It got more busy as we ate, and our server was running around silly, hustling. However, we had to grab our own to go boxes and I practically yelled to get his attention to get the check. The menu did not have lunch or dinner chinese food combos. Many dishes were overpriced. Had to ask for salt and pepper and they don't provide spoons (for sugar) for the tea. The tea was very dark, akin to a pot of coffee sitting on the burner for awhile. The chicken fingers were a turn off, didn't care for the coating or the taste. The beef lo mein was lacking in beef. The vegetable fried rice, although flavorful, was too light in color and it contained those little corn on the cob chunks that naturally taste like dirt. It included big hunks of hard broccoli. For a place in a strip mall next to a laundromat, I would not have given a single thought to trying this place out, and now that I have I will be going back. The interior of the restaurant is surprisingly spacious and CLEAN. Food was excellent, and had plentiful portions, was quickly prepared (tasted fresh) and was hot and ready to go (Take out). The old rule of thumb is that you cannot tell the cleanliness of the kitchen from the clean dining room...well you absolutely can tell the cleanliness of the kitchen from a dirty dining room. We've been here several times and the result has always been the same - mediocre food and terrible service. Tonight we sat at the bar and there were a few other folks having dinner/drinks, the restaurant area was mostly empty but the place was a disaster. Empty plates and dirty dishes everywhere, we had to push aside dirty glasses and invoices from our spot at the bar. The server eventually came over and ask if we wanted some drinks - I ordered a beer and the wife needed more time. The server wandered around and came back about 10 minutes later without my beer and asked if we wanted drinks and food. WTF? Yes, yes we do. We want both. We were about to walk out right before she came back, and we probably should have left at that time. The drink and food order was taken (appetizers, house fried rice, and sweet sour pork). Eventually our drinks arrived but yet the dirty dishes remained throughout the bar area. One poor guy tried to sit at the bar but couldn't find a spot due to the garbage left behind. To no great surprise, the appetizers came out at the same time as the meal and were cold and hard. The house fried rice was decent but the sweet & sour pork was hard and numerous pieces were overcooked - a hard shell surrounded small pieces of dried out meat in the middle. Yummy. We collected our check and left. A couple of guys at the bar were razzing the server about not being able to get served, and they too eventually left. I'm a Chinese food junkie. Luckily, Milford is a haven for people like me. There is stiff competition in the form of 6 Chinese restaurants within a 5 minute drive of the Milford oval. That being the case, Sake House triumphs over them all. Sake House presents itself as a Sushi/Hibachi restaurant, neither fronts of which I have really sampled. I have, however, had many lunches from their typical Americanized Chinese offerings, and all of them have been great. Their vegetables are very fresh, and you get a relatively diverse selection of them in their chicken/steak/pork and vegetable stir fries. Their base sauces are spectacular, and their garlic sauce should be outlawed for addictive qualities. Their portions are very generous, and all of their lunch combos come with your choice of soup. It's a wonderful value I believe. This location also offers a lunch buffet, however it's modified from what you would typically classify as a buffet, but all for the better. For this experience, you grab a buffet menu, order 4 items, and those 4 items are prepared for you fresh (!!!) and they bring it out to you on a plate that appears to be the size and shape of an upside down trash can lid. If you are a mad man and you desire more, you order in batches of 2 from there on out. I have done this buffet before, and if you can make it past the first 4 items, write me a personal message and I will give you a gold star. I also want to make note of their bar, located to the left when you first walk in. It's a great, clean place, with two 50" HDTV's. We tried the Sake House in Milford several times. When you are seated, you have a choice of a normal booth or a hibachi booth. On our first visit, we chose the normal booth. A couple came in a short time later with their kids and sat at the hibachi booth. They were getting so entertained that we decided to try it on our next visit. The chef cooked and served the meal right from the center of the booth area, and he really put on a show for the kids. The food we were served was among the best we'd had in quite a while. We tried several appetizers. The Peking ravioli were excellent. The soups came in small and large sizes - we got the small and that was equivalent in size to what we get at other restaurants. We tried lots of noodle dishes - all were fantastic. My youngest son thought the veggie fried rice was the best he's ever had. The chicken pad thai was excellent - very flavorful. I'll post some pictures of the food. We went back to the Saki House a short time later to try the Hibachi experience with the kids. The prices are based on the type of meat you order. A chicken hibachi is about $16, beef is about $18, and so on. We all tried the chicken hibachi, which comes with 2 shrimp, a hibachi soup, and a salad. The soup was beef broth based, and came with a couple veggies in it. The salad came with a creamy dressing that had a slight sesame flavor. Part of the hibachi experience is the entertainment factor;. The food is cooked right in front of you, and the cook will entertain you as the food is prepared and cooked. You get fried rice, the meat you ordered, 2 shrimps, and grilled mixed veggies, along with the soup and salad included with the cost of the meal. So the wife and i got some Sake House for dinner last night. I decided to save my egg roll for today. I heated it up and was planning to indulge in some awesomeness when i thought to cut it in half first to make it easier to dip into the mustard. Good think I did... i found what appears to be a mop string inside that the knife had trouble with. I pulled it out and sure enough... it's a fucking mop string. To be honest, we never go here for anything but Sushi, and it is always very good. I have had better, but when you can get 12 sets of different rolls to share for under $60 it's a win. The space was redone featuring sushi bar, hibachi tables (chef cooks in front of you), booths and tables. The atmosphere is casual and the lighting is on the dim side. The menu offerings include the standard Chinese dishes and specialties, plus hibachi dinners, udon, pad thai noodles, and a good selection of sushi rolls and sashimi. 29 Chinese Lunch Specials ($5.95-$7.25)(served until 3:30 PM) served with rice and choice of appetizer & soup and 3 Japanese Sushi & Sashimi Luncheon Specials ($8.95-$10.95) served with miso soup & salad are offered. On Sundays-Thursdays during lunch hours, they are offering a LUNCH BUFFET for $7.95 plus tax (in Feb 2012). They ran out of the tofu dishes, which I was going to order. The Chicken Teriyaki sticks were tender and chewy, the boneless chicken was stringy inside. The lo mein dish was on the greasy oily side used the thicker wide noodles cooked soft with big pieces of soft boneless chicken and vegetables. The pad thai was prepared with very soft noodles with soft boneless chicken, egg, peanuts, scallions and lime, the tangy lime flavor was overwhelming. The shrimp dish had tender jumbo shrimp with a mix of crunchy vegetables in a sweet/spiced tea sauce. For the second round, I ordered steamed dumplings (2) and crab rangoons (3). The steamed dumplings were eh, a thick very doughy shell with a ball of ground pork inside. The crab rangoons were hot and crispy, slightly greasy, filled with a smooth sweet cream cheese/minced seastick filling. The service was acceptable, the soup served quickly, the main course took about 12 minutes to arrive and the reorder items served to me in about 5 minutes. The check with fortune cookie was given to me soon after I called its quits on the buffet "no mas." Overall, most of the food was decent to good tasting and I was "stuffed" after eating seven items (the portions of food for each item on the first plate were good sized). I'm very used to sampling many items in the same meal at a typical Chinese buffet (self serve), plating much smaller portions of each item to try, though the food at a typical buffet could be sitting out for a while. The food here for the most part tasted freshly cooked, except for the dumplings (very chewy). I will have to return here again for a hibachi style dinner, cooked on the grill tableside. read more

Took the kids with us for a last minute dinner on Saturday night. This place is close, not too pricey, tons of options and a lot more fun than making dinner ourselves. My eight year old son's final review of our night out was "The best dinner I've ever had in my life and we had so much fun!" So, if you have ever found yourself at Mikata or Takumi looking for a Japanese hibachi meal and found it a bit dirty, not too tasty, slow service, the chefs are less than enthusiastic and the final price a bit too high for what you received, then you have to try Sake House! This place is much smaller, with lots of friendly staff that make sure each customer has what they need. I must say that there were probably three or four servers walking around the restaurant and I'm not sure which one was specifically ours, but they all brought us things and they all made sure we were never wanting for anything. They also looked happy to be there and really wanting everyone to have a great experience. We got to the restaurant a little after 5 pm after canoeing in Peterborough without any plans to have dinner out. It was pretty early and we asked if we could sit at the hibachi table even if we all weren't ordering from that menu. They had NO problem with that at all. My husband was all into the sushi, while my daughter wanted miso soup and a shrimp with broccoli dish. My son and I both ordered hibachi which was not only tasty but lots of fun. Several other people joined our table pretty quickly and within an hour the entire restaurant looked pretty busy. I did notice that most of the people there were families with children and it was quite refreshing. No one seemed uptight about having their children with them and at the hibachi tables the children were so engaged in the cooking process and the show, there was no misbehaving. They also have a great sushi chef on staff and my husband ordered a special sushi roll made with thin sliced cucumber flesh on the outside in place of both rice and seaweed. It was incredibly delicious and really spotlighted the taste of the fresh fish in a really healthy way. The hibachi chef had great presence, was witty and very physically talented -- kind of like a circus juggling act with the knives, spatulas and condiment bottles. We were able to have fun as a family and also as part of a group at the table. I do so hope this place is able to stay in business in our neighborhood. It can be really sleepy and slow in Milford restaurants during the week. They have tons of specials and deals to get people in so please check them out for take away or restaurant dining. Green salad had lettuce and shredded carrots with a ginger, carrot, and mayo dressing. At least that's what supposed to be in there from the restaurants I've worked at. Mother in law ordered the Mango Chicken which had no mangoes, but did have two pieces of shrimp... yup, no one saw that one coming. She described it as mango-ee. So I'm guessing it was mango flavored chicken... not mango with chicken. Mushroom soup came along with her Mango-ee chicken, but the soup had no mushroom, so I was beginning to think these were "essence" dishes and not literal. heh. Ordered the Ginger string bean chicken for the boyfriend. He said it was good so that was good news. Oh and it was chicken with string beans. ^^ Father in law got the Fried egg rolls and chicken fingers they both scared me.... and not because I'm a vegetarian but because they looked more like hush puppies and left oil spots all over the brown paper bag lol but no one got sick so it's edible and depending on taste preferences isn't all that bad. So try em out if you haven't... but stay away from the fried chicken hush pups. Oh and they had a bar area with a large flat screen. Have been here numerous of times. 1/2 price Sushi on Monday - Wednesday is fantastic. We initially started coming to the restaurant just for the Sushi, I wanted to see if the sushi was any different on a non discount day and it wasn't. it was just as delicious. The owners Jerry and Vicky and very on top of their game. The staff is pleasant and efficient. Sometimes when there is a lot of people you might have to wait a bit for your Sushi but it's well worth it. The Hibachi is very good and entertaining and I am actually quite surprised more people haven't discovered it. If you like Peking Duck theirs is absolutely delicious! read more

I will say, that want I usually tend towards was not on the menu for buffet. Place was recently redone and looks great and CLEAN... The waitstaff was great, and not pushy or in-your-face... I have been coming here for years. To be fair, the sushi is pretty good and their 50% off Mon- Wed special can't be beat! That being said, the service / length of wait has gotten completely out of hand. I was late picking up my order (or so I thought) so you can imagine my surprise when I found out it wasn't ready yet. In total it took 1 hr 22 min for my order of 4 different sushi rolls to be prepared. It was also later in the evening so the "dinner rush" should have had no impact. When I left, another man who had waited 1hr+ and a woman who had placed her order 45+ min earlier were still waiting. As I said, the sushi is pretty good....but not worth such a long wait. Very disappointed with this experience! UPDATE: I left the previous review in place as fair warning that the Mon-Wed promo is still very popular. Expect a wait if you order at peak times. That being said, this restaurant cares about its customers and has significantly improved on order times. Additionally, they made good on the poor experience I had. I've come here off and on for lunch. The lunch options are generally good. Some dishes are excessively salty but otherwise are fine. My main issue with the restaurant is the smell.
