Amazing artists, but man what a rip off. They were going to charge me $8,000 for an upper arm black and grey, not even a half sleeve. Went to another shop (a very reputable one) and their price was $1,200 for the same thing! Also note that the artists are not the ones designing your tattoo. There are other people who serve as an intermediary. Those are the ones you talk to and who will put together a design for you. I'd give them one star but damn those guys have talent. It's just an unreal barrier to entry to get a chance to sit in their chair. What a shame. read more

It's unfortunate that a couple reviews are bringing down the rating of Dzul, because I have had the BEST experience here. I've gotten my nose pierced by Cata, and several tattoos by Alex (Alejandro). From the start, they were professional and attentive about the pieces I wanted. They came up with several designs, and were honest about which ones would work best with my body shape (since this was going to be a larger piece on my hip and thigh). I've had smaller tattoos done by Alex, and then two long 7 hour sessions with him. So many people compliment me on my thigh tattoo, and I always point them in Alex's direction. UPDATE: to respond to dzul's comment. i never requested any sort of stud with my piercer. she gave me two options that looked the same to me, she didn't explain the difference and didn't tell me that that stud wasn't for beginners. i literally sat down and two seconds later i came out with a piercing. it wasn't until i went to a different shop that i realized what i terrible job was done to my nose. some advice: have the piercer educate a beginner on what is better and give the customer advice cause i didn't get any. read more

This review is for Cata. Short review: This woman is amazing! I looked at her portfolio online and read her reviews here on Yelp before visiting (she has more photos on her Instagram account). I was sold. 1). I went to her in July to remove a keloid around my hurting nose piercing (done by someone else at a different shop) and she removed it with a q-tip and post-piercing solution! She told me that my piercing wasn't infected like I previously thought, just extremely irritated. Cata also mentioned that the bar was too short for my nose and the location was too high up for what I wanted. She gave me tons of advice, cleaning solution, a solid routine and healing oil. Within 2 weeks my piercing was completely healed and undetectable! 2). On Wednesday, during my lunch break, I decided to get my septum pierced. I did research prior to visiting Cata again and decided to go for it. The process was the smoothest I've ever experienced. She made sure I knew what I wanted, took time to help me pick out the ideal jewelry, gave me more information and reiterated my care schedule. The piercing itself wasn't painful and I only had a few drops of blood (everyone is different btw). I really can't express how much I love this piercing. I'm constantly checking out my nose throughout the day to sneak-a-peak. It turned out exactly as I imagined and aside from mild swelling, I forget it's there. This is a cooy and past of all my ongoing dealings with this shop. I have never been someone who leaves reviews but since day one I have had been disappointed with the integrity of this shop. I am including a pic so you can judge for yourselvea. The watercolor part I love. Final update: Its been about 6 weeks and its time to schedule my 90 day "free" touch up. After the redness went away and the scabbing cleared up, I have noticed there were spots that were not correct. I communicated this to the shop and due to the complexity of the design asked if they could fill in the part that was wrong with black (a very thin outline of a hollowed heart that overlaps a white ribbon that has water colors spilling on everything but the white ribbon. The white ribbon was to be the only thing white and perfect. The parts where the heart overlap the ribbon were colored white also...so the lines going through the white ribbon look stupid.)...figured that would be easier that matching the several water colors. I provided them with a picture that pointed out the obvious errors. They refused and said they could do it for ANOTHER $100!! So I am taking all my buisness elsewhere and putting the star rating back down. Very sad that they gouge the customers this way. This tattoo is approximately the size of the palm of my hand and cost over $600! And they want another $100 for a little black to make it look right!! 2nd update: worth the wait in the end. It turned out exactly how I wanted it. UPDATE: Recieved a call after hours. Alex offered to come in on Sunday (normally closed). As inconvenient as it is to drive back I do appreciate the effort. also have to simplify my original vision to remain in budget.so Im upping the star rating since they are trying to make it right. I will redo whole post after. Original: Waited for over a month for my appt finally the day came and they called and pushed it back 3 hours...ok. Get there at the new time and they were going to change artist to the apprentice. Nope not ok! So had to wait another 2 hours then they tell me the quoted amount was bumped up another $200! They refused to give $250 deposit back because they claim "they held the time and could have scheduled someone else" and that the artwork they did took time. This was a tribute tattoo that is for my fiancee who just got diagnosed with lung cancer. I drew the artwork myself. all they had to do was add color to the background! absolutely no integrity!! Went in for a nostril piercing and left gently traumatized. This is my third nose piercing, so I'm no stranger to needles in my nose. I bled profusely and the piercer denied that it was her fault. The same woman pierced my friend's nose and it was fine so it absolutely could've just been an off day for my nose but I still think they absolutely could've handled it better. **in response to owners comment: I understand that bleeding has many different factors but the piercer accused me of both drinking and being underage :/ my low rating comes from her behavior, sorry that wasn't clear. "The receptionists/front desk designers are running off potential, new clients from these amazing artists. I asked to speak directly to the artists. I'm not the one to go back-and-forth and I don't want receptionists "amateurs" telling me what I 'should' put on my body, not what I want. So, I don't want to work with them, just because of the receptionists running interference. Dzul has very talented artists from what I've seen. I have read the reviews and I totally agree, the receptionists are the reason for them not being as successful as they could be. So, I never booked my appointment, just because of the receptionists. The artists really don't have a voice. The receptionists are more concerned about actually being "called" receptionists, than welcoming a potential, new client. Receptionists, front desk, all the same thing. I specifically requested to speak directly with the artist. TWO WEEKS LATER I get a call from the shop letting me know that they are booked solid and can't help me before my date, despite their original promise which was the only reason I was okay waiting two weeks for a response in the first place. Disappointing. After sending multiple images and a full hour long discussion on what I wanted my custom piece tattoo to look like I wasn't impressed with the one month follow up zoom. I called when I wasn't given a zoom code and informed that they would email me 5 minutes prior to the appointment. It felt rushed and looked nothing like we discussed. It looked like 3 google images plastered together with no effort. This place was advertised as a collaborative of artists and stated that's why their prices were high but I didn't see much artistry reflecting that in the piece they offered me. I cancelled and lost a $600 deposit, they offered to "make some adjustments" a week before the actual tattoo appointment but with what they showed me, it would need to be a complete overhaul. Awful! They quoted us $450-$650 for a tattoo and we ended up paying $900 for a horrible tattoo that faded in less than a month! When I asked them why it was so much higher than quotes, the artist said that it was different than the images I had provided via email (no it was not). They initially told us the touch up would be free so we called and booked an appointment. When they called to reschedule the appointment (after we took the day off work) because of their own scheduling error, they told us the touchup will be $250 because it's a hand tattoo. Dzul ink is a scam! Do yourselves a favor and do not get a tattoo here. There are several honest tattoo shops in Seattle. And Dzul, please spare me the bogus reply. They took my 300$ and no tattoo, I came in for a in person consultation to make sure they understood what I wanted, Aimee took measurements of the area that I wanted and spoke to the artist about it to come up with a quote for me, they quoted me 900-1200 for the piece which I agreed to and left a 300$ deposit, on Thursday April 4th I had my art review so again I came in to look over the art work and again they took measurements of my forearm and told me that everything was in order and we were good to go, I came in April 6th and all of the sudden my quote changed from 900-1200 to 2200 dollars, that is double the price to which I told them I understand quotes can change but doubling the price is absurd, I asked if I could get a refund since they could not do the tattoo for the price they had quoted me but they refused and kept trying to make it seem like i didnt communicate well with them about what i wanted, they did not offer any real solutions only thing I got from them was that they could do the outline of a tattoo for 1200, why would I pay 1200 for an outline? So now I am out 300 dollars and no tattoo they really did take advantage of me. read more

They were able to take my rough ideas and turn them into something I could never have come up with myself, the design itself was fantastic. The day of the tattoo was very easy, I came in and Alejandro walked me through everything (this was my first tattoo) and we got right too it. Full review in photos. Warning: Lady with red hair is VERY unprofessional and rude to clients AND staff. THIS ALL COULD'VE BEEN AVOIDED HAD SHE GIVEN ME THE RIGHT LENGTH IN THE FIRST PLACE. The red flags would still be there, but I probably would've been able to walk away satisfied with what I got. If I had gotten a proper sized bar my rating would be 2.5/5 for decent work but serious lack of knowledge/info. After dealing with her f*cked up attitude and inability to admit she was wrong/correct her mistake EVEN THOUGH she is putting a clients health at risk, my rating is 0/5. I will never be back here and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid this place for piercings. Decided to try Dzul Ink out because of the good reviews I've heard about this place and I was also one of their winners from their Instagram end of the year giveaway. One of the prizes was a 25% jewelry coupon and 10% jewelry coupon. I wanted to get a double helix piercing with gold hoops. It is $20 for the piercing itself, and additional cost for the jewelry. I called ahead of time to see if I would be able to come in, however the lady who answered the phone said that the piercer doesn't come in until 3pm so I decided to schedule an appointment at 3 the next day. She told me it would be about $110 for both piercings and gold hoops. It was a bit pricey compared to other places but I didn't mind since I could use the coupons I won! ...NOT. The next day, my friend and I walked in at about 2:45, filled out paper work and waited for about 30 minutes until I finally asked the lady at the front desk if the piercer was in yet because I had work at 4:30. It was 3:15 and she still wasn't there and doesn't have a cell phone so there was no one of contacting her. The lady at the front desk offered us to look at the jewelry options while we waited, which we did. The jewelry selection was nice and had many gold hoop options; however that's when she told me that the jewelry coupons I had did not apply to the jewelry that they had to use to do the piercing with, which were all silver. We were in there for about an hour and the piercer never showed up so we just left. Giving 2 stars because the lady was nice and they had a decent jewelry selection. Came in on a whim today with my mom to get our noses pierced while on vacation in Seattle. We walked in and got Catalina as our piercer. Every review with her seems to have been great but ours was not. I had my nose pierced before and it was an easy painless quick experience. My mom went first and I watched. I noticed she put the needle in VERY slowly which was painful for my mom. She got the jewelry in and my mom was done. I was next. When she did the actual piercing I could tell how slow it was which again made it extremely painful. It was almost like she pushed it a little way, stopped, then pushed thru the rest. I started bleeding BAD. Like running down my face bleeding which I've never experienced before. Then she was trying to get the piece of jewelry on and it was the most excruciating pain ever (I have many tattoos and piercings, nothing like this) she kept telling me to relax but that was near impossible. She continued trying to get the jewelry in for about 5 minutes and I finally told her to just stop and I wanted to be done. My mom assured me I would be disappointed if I went thru all that and left empty handed. I gave her one more chance and she finally got it in. I saw on the little table how many Kleenex and q tips were soaked in my blood and it was alarming. If I would have known his would be my experience I would have never chosen to get my nose pierced again. I would not return here again. 2 stars because she was genuinely sweet. UPDATE: Look at the photo I posted one week after. The stud she put it is way too small and the jewelry itself too tight, it keeps sinking into my nose and looks like I just have a giant hole in my nose. It's excruciatingly painful. As many other reviews state, the initial estimates are very high compared to other tattoo shops in the area, and then they charge even higher than the estimates. My wife and I came in for matching black tattoos, with the designs taken from the web. The artist looked at the design, talked about what we wanted, and quoted $250 per tattoo. We said it sounded a little high, and the artist said it might not cost that much, since we would both get identical tattoos. The artist took the online image, and modified it slightly. We then both got our ~3 inch tattoos on our shoulders. Total time was a little under 3 hours. We were charged almost $900, or around $300 per hour. The tattoos were "fine", but not something to be proud of. The line work was a bit light, and not consistent. We plan to get it touched up when we get our next tattoos. When we brought up that the total charge was significantly higher than quoted, we were told that tattoos aren't done per hour, they're based on complexity, and "many other factors". I pointed out that our tattoos were simple, copied from the web, and were duplicates of each other. Complexity if anything should have reduced the price. We essentially received a "too bad" response back. We'll obviously be going somewhere else for our future tattoos, but as I noticed so many other customers ran into the same problems, I thought it was worth writing up our experience as well. read more

I was there earlier today for two smaller pieces (arm and then thumb) and had such a good experience that I thought I'd write an update and I can't believe my first review was all the way back 2018! Well, since then I've gotten 8 tattoos from Alex. I have 17 tattoos in total, and 8 of them have been done by Alex at Dzul--that's nearly half of all the work on my body. Once again he was patient and made sure the placement, sizing, shading, etc. were all what I wanted before continuing. I felt bad for trying multiple iterations but I didn't feel any pressure to hurry up. The shop is clean and everyone is professional but still very down to earth. The artists really take the time to listen and work with me on my vision. I also appreciate that it's okay with them that I generally like the smaller/daintier pieces. Alex does incredible work with larger and complex tattoos of course, but he approaches every piece with care--no matter what size--as a true artist. Not once in almost four years have I ever felt belittled for my style. Cata also helped me out a lot last year with a forward helix piercing that had almost completely closed up. She was great and also very warm and fun to talk to. I saw her today again and we chatted. I have never worked with Jacob but I'm sure he's amazing too. Obviously his portfolio is great. I HIGHLY recommend Dzul and I won't be going anywhere else for tats unless I leave Washington. And even if I move away, I'd consider driving back like if I lived in, say, Portland or something. I did a half sleeve coverup with Alex and cannot say enough good things about him and his staff. First, I'm not even remotely artistic and even worse trying to describe artistic ideas I have. After my consult, the art concept I was shown was perfect and even better than I had imagined. Fast forward through two sessions lasting 12 hours (I still have one left for touch up and the inside of my arm) and I'm really impressed by how well Alex was able to take that idea and put it on my arm. I got my tattoo there about a year ago and never got to writing a review so here goes. The reasons for my low review are 1. Misinformation and unwillingness to compromise I went in for a consultation ( they dont do consultations with the actual artists you do it with an assistant/ receptionist) And we went through my design and my budget. I told them I would like to stay around 300-500. The size I wanted was going to be over budget so she sized me and told me that going down x amount of in. Would bring the tatto to starting at 350 but NO MORE THAN 500. I agree and put down my non refundable deposit for the appointment. I get there and the artist Alex says that he can do that design at the price original for almost HALF THE SIZE! When I asked how much the size agreed to and I wanted would be he said 850-900!! I WOULD NOT have put down a deposit if that was told to me. I asked if I could have my deposit back because it was the workers fault for giving me misinformation and he said NO. That he was worth that much in his career. I ended up having to bring my piece down like 2- 3" smaller and still paying $700. 2. Mediocre job The job he did was blotchy. Not everything was filled in, the line work was..fine. and what was filled in was not even. 3. The only reason its not a 1 The people over all are friendly and they have a TV there to keep you distracted if you forget your headphones. Overall its overhyped, overpriced, and do not take ownership for their misinformed staff. read more

Didn't end up getting a tattoo here because I was GROSSLY misquoted by a consultant who apparently doesn't even give the tattoos- which is something I've never heard of before. As someone who has a half sleeve and 15+ tattoos, this girl tried to tell me that a tat about 2.5/3 inches all around with no color and minimal detail would cost $450- $600+ TAX. Is she delusional? I have larger tattoos with more detail, intricate line-work and color I've gotten done for less. With all the tattoo shops in Seattle I'd pass on this place, ESPECIALLY if it's your first one or you're unfamiliar with pricing. I was referred to Dzul Ink by a friend from work. After looking at the artwork on their website I knew that I wanted Alex to do my dark romance book tattoo. I didn't have a picture of what I wanted I only new what elements I wanted in the tattoo and the placement. When I had my first art workup sit down, I was blown away by what they came up with. They were great at offering changes to the design so it would accentuate the part of my body it was going on. They were never pushy or uncooperative when I suggested changes or tweaks to the design. During the tattoo process the staff went above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and at ease the entire time. Alex was great he would always ask how I was doing and if I needed a break. When the final session was done, I was speechless with the result. I love every bit of it. Alex truly captured the dark theme that I wanted and really made the elements come alive. I got my piercings twice with Catalina. First was a nose piercing in early 2021 then an industrial a couple weeks back. Catalina did the piercings really well, I didn't even realize that she pierced the second piercing on my industrial. She also really taught me how to care for the piercings and they heal so much faster compared to when I had my piercings elsewhere. I don't recommend coming here at all for piercings. On Monday I came in to get new jewelry for my septum and it had a little ball. Doing with myself I of course lost the ball, I don't have the skills of a good piercer to put jewelry in so I went back to get a new one with a ball since I couldn't return the one I bought already. I asked if a piercer could put it in and the charge *they said* it would be $15. I buy new jewelry one with a ball and I have a piercer put it in. When we are in the room she says that the insertion actually costs $30, but she'll only charge me $20. Right off the bat, it was already bad news. So she puts it in and it looks good. She told me if I ever wanted to hide the little ball on the jewelry I could just hide it in my nose. So I did that and the ball came off. Not only did I have to pay for the insertion, but I paid extra than they said and the piercer didn't even do it right. They aren't professional at all. read more

1. I showed up for my appointment yesterday scheduled at 3:00 P.M. I communicated to the receptionist months in advance (via email) that I wanted an appointment with Alejandro. They booked me with Jacob (wrong artist). I wasn't aware of it until I showed up and another client exclaimed she was there for an appointment with the person I thought was completing my piece. I let it go and gave Jacob the benefit of the doubt. However, he did not start tattooing me until after 4 P.M. (an hour past my appointment time). 2. One of the girls at the front desk printed out a very small version of the forearm tattoo I got. I had communicated to them that I wanted this piece to cover most of my forearm, which was obviously ignored. She printed out a larger version to show me, which I approved. About 5 minutes later she told me that since it was going to be "bigger than expected", it would end up being on the "higher end" of my initial price quote. The initial quote I received over the phone when I made the appointment and put down the $200 deposit was between $900 and $1,200, "depending on detail". So, that means I should have paid $1,000 (maximum) upon completion of the piece, considering I put $200 towards the tattoo upon scheduling my appointment. 3. When I went to the counter to pay, one of the girls told me my total my $1,454, meaning they charged me nearly $1,700 for a piece that doesn't even cover half my forearm. $154 of the total was tax, which they did not disclose would be added to the total until my tattoo was completed. I did the math after I left and realized that not only did they over charge me by $300, but the artist only took 4-4.5 hours to complete my tattoo from start to finish. I paid $333/hr only to be booked with the wrong artist and taken advantage of. 4. I called the shop today after not receiving a response to the email I sent last night, asking how much the artist charges per hour. The girl who I spoke with on the phone insisted there was nothing she could do for me, because the price is ultimately at the artist's discretion. She offered to have the artist speak with me, but indicated he wouldn't have time for even a phone call until the following week. She called back around 5:00 P.M. and indicated Jacob had a cancellation, so he could call me sometime this evening. I told her I would not be available until 7:45, as I was in a meeting. She told me she would let Jacob know that I would be free around 7:45 to discuss the price issue. I never received a call from the artist, even after responding to an email the receptionist sent around 8:00, explaining that she didn't know if I was supposed to call them or he was supposed to call me. I told them I was under the impression that he would be calling me at 7:45 and that I was still available. I never received a call or an email response. 4. My partner has an appointment next month to get a tattoo touched up. He also put down a $200 deposit in order to be scheduled (also with the wrong artist). After hearing about my horrible experience, he does not want to keep his appointment, but feels obligated to since we are assuming they will not refund him the $200, even though they scheduled him with the wrong artist and duped me. I feel hurt, belittled, taken advantage of and disappointed by this whole experience. I got a labret piercing from Catalina. I have been calling Dzul for weeks because I was nervous and they answered all my questions each time and made me feel comfortable knowing that the size of my lips wouldn't be an issue. Catalina's voice was very soothing! I am unsure is she knew how nervous I was, she tried out different rings because I didn't want a stud and that was very firm for me because I hate the look of studs. I ended up with a beautiful piercing, and good instructions on how to care for my lip. I like the front office staff they were very chill and it was very clean which is a plus! I am glad I got a piercing but the Ink Lounge made me want to get a tattoo! They have many pictures and knowledgeable people if you have questions!
