I've been coming here for over ten years since my friend Jeannie, who was born in China, told me about them. They have a lot of chinese herbs, and I'm talking about the kind that are in the raw form, like roots. They also have a lot of tinctures and interesting candies and foods you can buy. It probably helps that I'm 1/4 chinese, grew up in Hawaii, and am not weirded out by some of the stuff they have in here. Not that I've ever seen anything really gross or weird (no animal parts that I've seen), but it's definitely not the kind of stuff most Americans would consider "normal." Yen, the owner, took over the business from her parents, years ago. She knows all about different kinds of Chinese herbs. I came in here once to try to get some He Shou Wu, which is shown to help reverse graying hair. She gave me a bag of what looked like wood chips, and you're supposed to boil them and drink the liquid. I was too lazy and never got around to it but they did also have the liquid form. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for Chinese herbs. read more

This is the most ridiculous acupuncturist/chinese doctor I've ever seen. I got seriously sick and went to hospital right after i saw her. Now i am still going to treatment every week and incurred a lot of medical bills!!! On 9/18/2013, I went to see Jianhong Wen for digestive problems the first time and she prescribed me a herb medication. After I took her prescription, my monthly menstrual period has been paused and later became irregular. Additionally my immune system has significantly deteriorated and I suddenly have grown many grey hairs, which is abnormal at my age. After taking the prescription from the 2nd office visit on 11/30/2013, I developed severe vertigo and could not commute to work for the next 2 weeks. During the office visit, I was not told about any potential allergy and instruction of using the prescription. The medication was simply wrapped in a paper bag with no label. The appointments were rather rushed and I was not given adequate care. I attempted to reconcile this with her multiple times, but she hang up on my phone call claiming that it was my own problem. I have been undergoing various medical treatments since 9/18/2013. I paid for a lot of medical expenses but I am still not cured yet. She claimed that there was no correlation between her herbal prescription (one prescription on 9/18/13 and 2nd prescription on 12/3/2013) and my health issues afterwards. She claimed it was my stress problem. If what she said was true, why are there coincidences that I did not have my period the same month right after her 1st prescription? Why did vertigo occur within 1 hour after her 2nd prescription, which is the very first time in my life? Why did all coincidences happen? I only saw her twice and how can both time be coincidences? I had monthly period of 7 days for almost 20 years. No matter if I have stresses or not, I always had 7 days of normal monthly period on time. This year I only had 2 periods after taking her drugs. More importantly, it's her attitude on patients. No instruction or label or these herbs, which is misleading and irresponsible. If she is confident about her practice, why did she hang up on my phone calls multiple times and try to avoid her responsibilities? Dear consumer, don't jeopardize your health on her hand! read more

My review is only for the store, not the doctor. It's a good and friendly herbal store, and people working there know little useful things to recommend. If you got some little ailments, like cough or stuffy nose, just ask. If you need Chinese pills, they have many brands for unbeatable price (cheaper then many places on the internet). You only need to ask, better having it written in Chinese, as pinyin spellings may differ. If they don't have certain pills, they sometimes can order them for you. They also have a grinder for herbs, if you don't like cooking herbs and cannot find the pills, you can get those as powder. read more

They have a wide selection of the packaged pill-form herbs and they can mix the natural herbs per my TCM doctors instructions. The prices are reasonable and the staff are helpful and attentive. This year, for the first time in over a decade, some bug got a grip on me. I couldn't believe it because the first day I thought I might be coming down with something I hit it with nine different immune boosters and the next day it was gone. That's been my technique for more than 10 years, but then... one week later it was deja vu! Same routine, same result. Then four days later it hit for the third time and this time even the nine immune boosters failed to deliver and I was down for the count. For an entire week I stayed in bed resting and reading and taking every solution in my arsenal. Then I thought I was winning so I got up and spent a couple days trying to catch up on life, only to be yet again down for the count. I think it was about that time that I heard it referred to as the boomerang bug. My lungs were so bad that I thought I was hearing a death rattle, but my experience with allopathic doctors has been a repeated scenario of cursory exams, expensive tests, quickly scribble prescriptions and more side-effects than solutions so don't ask me why I didn't go see a doctor. I do better healing myself than they ever have. Finally my chiropractor told me about E & W Natural Way and a couple items to purchase: Yin Chiao and Bi Yan Pian. She said they would help me a lot and to ask the people at the shop what to take for my lungs. They told me to get Respiryn Extract and Broncklin Extract. All four of those items cost me a total of $13.50! I began immediately to feel better, but paced myself while continuing to take the treatment and had to return for three of the items (Yin Chiao is best to take at the very beginning of an illness). Later my chiropractor suggested I also pick up Curing Pills to have on hand in the event of stomach and digestive problems. I haven't had a need to test these yet, but the other items have been extremely effective. I feel almost back to my old self now. My rattling lungs are almost completely clear with only occasional brief coughing and I have a new favorite place to stock my arsenal for health. The people at E & W Natural Way are very helpful. Some speak a more limited English than others, but I found communication to be a lot easier than at many of the "American" stores heavily staffed with second language English employees. hi. In many ways, this is a great place. It has lots of herbs and given we are not in China, it is wonderful to have access to these herbs. But and this is a large but. I am a westerner trained in Chinese medicine. So I can tell you that there is a certain percent of chinese, who are here, who do not like us. There is no more certain way to affect someone positively or negatively than through their health. There can be no mistake when someone has your best interests at heart. But you must take care to notice when someone avoids open ness, or avoids eye contact, and other subtle signs when they may be giving you a formula with, for example, all the ingredients on the list - which is in chinese - except one important ingredient. Or, adding an ingredient that might be very toxic to your system. The Chinese culture is very very different from ours. There is an old Chinse saying, we build a wall one brick at a time. We Americans take a different approach and bring all the bricks with many workers and have it up overnight, using floodlights and coffee to stay up working. These are two different approaches to problem solving. There is another old Chinese saying, "One Land". Take care. Pay attention. Whether its a western doctor who has lost his spirit in his job, and therefore does not do a good job when you come to see him/her, or if it is an eastern herbal shop keeper, who will misfill your formula. read more
