He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cared about making sure we found the right fit. The kids' trade-in program was such a fantastic idea and made upgrading to a new bike so much easier. It's great to see a shop that encourages kids to grow with their bikes while also making cycling more accessible and sustainable for families. From the friendly service to the thoughtful programs, Alameda Bicycle truly sets the standard for what a local bike shop should be. We're so grateful for Draco's help and will definitely be coming back for our future bike needs. Highly recommend!

Disappointing assembly quality and warranty service…read more I bought a new road bike with Shimano 105 from Alameda Bicycle, but the setup quality was very poor. Right at pickup, the hydraulic brakes felt spongy. The mechanic told me to just ride it out, but after 100 miles of riding, it hadn't improved. During those rides some issues were also revealed: the shifting was rough, the drivetrain was noisy due to poor alignment, and a twisted brake hose was rubbing and scratching the frame. I brought it back under their 90-day guarantee, but the shifting and noise came back worse, and the brakes weren't addressed at all. I eventually spent hours fixing everything myself after purchasing tools and watching countless guides on YouTube. Lots of bubbles came out when I bled the brakes. Now that I properly bled the brakes and adjusted the derailleurs, the bike works great. No thanks to Alameda Bicycle though. Very disappointing build and service for a brand-new purchase.

Upon arrival I was…read moreinstantly greeted by the friendly employee who checked me in, provided me a helmet and set me up with an e-bike. All of the equipment seemed well maintained and I had no issues with it throughout my tour. Joey was the tour guide for me and the six others in our group. Joey was knowledgeable about San Francisco and it's history as he provided numerous bits of information at each stop along our route. The views were great although we got a foggy day so never had a full view of the bridge. The weather was great and I was comfortable in a sweatshirt although the drive across the bridge was way colder than I expected! I felt that this tour is well worth the price and it was nice to have a stress free experience being guided throughout the city and across the bridge. Sausalito is also a very cute town with tons of dining options. When the tour ends, you are left to explore on your own and just have to get your bike back before closing time. I prepaid for a ferry ticket (Sausalito back to San Fran) when I booked my reservation. Unfortunately, they forgot to give me the voucher when I left for the tour so I had to purchase my own ticket on the ferry and obtained a refund upon my return. It was $8.25 to buy my ticket for the ferry (includes your bike) but they charged $18.00 online. I consider it a win. I am super glad I rented an e-bike because there is no way I would have made the tour on a pedal bike. It was a pretty long distance with a few big hills. I would say you have to be an avid biker to be able to pull it off although the employees insist people do it all the time.

We discussed colors, using Pantone colors as a reference. Inspired by vapor wave, we landed on a Sailor Moon palette of deep purple, magenta, and white (with a few gold accents). The pin stripe around the lugging is really clean. Excellent work! She's a beauty now. Rick talked me out of an additional blue color block and I think it turned out really great. He even polished the chrome fork and applied topcoat over the decals so they won't fade like the originals.

He painted most of Tom Ritchey's frames from the 70s and 80, and Gary Fishers, and thousands of other mid-to-high end frames. He knows his craft and does a great job. He's painted frames for me, at least fifty frames for my business (Rivendell), and his work is spectacular. I sympathize with the reviewer who had decal-obtaining problems, but decals don't come easy, especially custom ones, and Rick isn't going to scold his long-time sources for being late. Everybody in the loop has a story and a reason, and sometimes you have to dig deep and wait till your number is called. I've never known Rick to be rude, and I know him well enough, and have known him long enough (40+ years) to say that it's more likely that the customer misinterpreted Rick. I have never seen him talk meanly about anybody or any customer. I am not denying the one-starers their experience of feelings, I'm just saying what's been my experience. Also--one final thing: When we have a rush job, or something we really want fast, he tells us we have to wait our turn, too. He values his regular customers and doesn't give cuts to us, and that's a good quality, too.

I've been a long fan of another cycling shop in Burlingame and haven't shopped here very often…read more When we purchased my son's last bike, they were just opening the Linda Mar location and didn't have an inventory to explore. They've settled in nicely and now have a nice inventory. Apparently, they've been a staple in Santa Cruz for some time. Anyway...about my experience yesterday. I stopped in on my way to my old favorite store, just to see if they had what I needed. I have already checked "In-Stock" inventory at the other store and knew they had the Park Tools Chain Tool that I needed. I was surprised that they not only had the model the other store had, they had two other models. One of higher quality and one of lesser (a starter "lite" version of a chain tool). I still went with the one I was originally looking at, but it was nice to see the options. I didn't expect to have that much of a choice. When I stopped in, there was only one employee working, but it didn't feel that way. He was helping a gentleman at the maintenance counter, a lady choosing a bike for her son and me all at the same time...and doing it well. I was even amazed that when I asked if they had chain tension clip (a small hooking clip that holds the chain where you need it while working with unconnected links). He simply said, "We usually make them out of old spokes...give me a minute and I'll make you one." It took two, but it was the perfect length and he made it for me for free. What a deal!!! While I don't expect them to have everything I will ever need...I usually have very specific needs for cycling gear, components and bikes, I will always check them first going forward!!!

Took my bike in for tune up and suspension service. It took more than a month to get my bike back…read more There was no proactive communication from the shop during this time. I called repeatedly and the staff needed urging to think to call the Santa Cruz shop that handles the suspension service to understand the delay When I finally got the bike back, the front wheel pointed to the right when the handlebars were in a position to have the bike go straight ahead, and the front tire was deflated from a loose valve. I took it back to have this corrected, and when I brought the bike home the steering was stiff and the bike was unstable and felt unsafe to ride. It turned out the staff had identified a problem with the headset that they had not been able to fix and did not make me aware of this. Multiple fails at repairing the bike, poor communication, Would definitely not recommend having your bike serviced here. Hundreds of dollars spent, and total frustration and no bike for a month.
