I returned to one of my fave places on the island Dec 12 with a local friend. We always visit this place and another next door. This visit I had the filet mignon salad $26. My friend had the short rib lasagne ($26). My meal was absolutely perfect, everything seasoned/flavored perfectly. My friend's dish looked a little heavy for me but she loved it, also. We chose a nice wine, I Googled it: Banfi Belnero is a premium Super Tuscan IGT wine from Castello Banfi in Montalcino, primarily crafted from Sangiovese blended with international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It features a deep ruby color with notes of black cherry, plum, spice, and vanilla, offering a full-bodied, structured palate with balanced tannins. Enjoyed 2 glasses of it ($32)! We split the chocolate Pot de Creme ($10) for dessert, so good. The restaurant was crowded, as we went a dinner time. Were lucky to get a table, in the bar area, near the window. Our server was running by and I didn't mind at all calling out to him, as he didn't check on us as much as the table to next to us, who were regulars. Once they left, he honored us with his presence, actually lingered to explain the quality of the wine we chose. I enjoyed this visit, although I am spoiled on getting much better service in Dallas, but every time I visit the islands, I try to remember to focus on the food, company and atmosphere. read more

We were looking forward to a great steak for dinner! Unfortunately it was anything but... The steak had no flavor and it was very tough, chewy and dry. I ordered the sterling filet mignon medium rare with additional onions... For the few slices of onion I had it was not worth the six dollars. The steak was so disappointing- not cooked the way I requested and for a dinner with one beer totaling $75 I would consider a rip off! We considered going to a different steak restaurant but the reviews were comparable so we thought we would try wise guys. Big mistake. The only thing good about our experience was the warm bread with butter. Our server never asked us how our food was and was not attentive. We were there on a Tuesday night so not a busy crowd. Fun place wirh great food. Portions are large, so the six of us decided on appetizers and She Crab soup. Several of us had mussels...they had just the right amount of spicy. Plenty of sauce and right amount of bread. My husband had the shrimp appetizer, and while I don't remember the name, he declared it the best shrimp he had ever had! High praise from that man. Another had a beef sliders, and I can only assume they were good cause they disappeared in short order. It was very busy, and that interfered with our service. The service was great from the time we walked in and was greeted and seated right away. Our waiter was on point about checking in on us and offering suggestions from the drink, food and dessert menus. We really enjoyed our meal at WiseGuys. The bread was wonderful to start. We then got the Parmesan fries & Brussels sprouts and both were great. For our entree's, the waiter recommended the smash burgers which were unbelievable. The Mac & cheese with smoked Gouda worked surprisingly well, and our waiter was very nice. This was our second visit for dinner, and both times had a very good experience. When we arrived at around 7:30 on Friday we were seated immediately and our server was attentive and helpful. I had a cup of she crab soup to start and decided on the wood fired vegetable lasagna. The soup was good, but not the best she crab soup I've ever had. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars But I was thrilled with the veggie lasagna. It was so flavorful & delicious. The veggies were minced and included carrots, zucchini, onion, mushrooms, and I believe tomato. The sauce was a traditional bechamel and the lasagna also had a good amount of mozzarella. The lasagna noodles were very fresh. This was a 5 star dish for me. I would order it again. Hubs started with French Onion Soup and was thrilled with it. 5 stars. His ceaser salad was huge and the lettuce was fresh. The only downside was it over dressed as it was dripping with dressing. 3.5 stars. He also had the prime rib and it was cooked as he requested but he said it was a bit on the fatty side. 4 stars. We also had a bottle of wine and they had a nice selection of reds and whites. Our 11th anniversary was this weekend and decided to spend it in the HH area. Made late reservations to WG restaurant and it was fantastic. My wife loved the setup and ambiance. Especially the long lighted hallway, it had a vintage Mod century feel to it. Service was impeccable, Chris was very helpful. My wife had the seafood wontons and Bang Bang Shrimp and was delicious. I had the fresh and much needed Beet salad and the combination of arugula, pistachios and beets were amazing with the sweet balsamic sauce. Next was the prime 16oz Delmonico steak and it was the 1st time I tried that particular cut and it was juicy (medium) well charred and succulently tender. One of the best steaks I've had in my life. We enjoyed the best meal all week in Hilton Head Island at Wise Guys. I had the smash burger, that is made of NY strip, short rib, and ribeye all ground together. It was amazing. One of the best burgers I've eaten in a long time. My wife had the meatloaf, this is also made from ribeye and NY strip. She love it. My daughter had the Margherita Pizza, which looked to be cooked in a wood fired pizza oven. She said it was perfect and reminder her of our time in Italy. I indulged in one of the cheapest pours of 20yr Pappy Van Winkle I've come across in years. Service was fantastic. Overall amazing experience and will certainly return. read more

Walked in on a Sunday evening without a reservation as our 1st choice in the neighborhood was closed. We were able to be seated (albeit at the front door).. The place was busy so we were glad to get the table. Food was good (as usual), but we were a little disappointed in the waiter. One of our party asked if the music could be turned down and Chad responded with a flat "NO". I thought he was kidding but when asked again, he repeated the response.. He could've offered "I'm sorry" or some kind of explanation... but all he offered again was "NO". When he came to take drink orders one of the diners at our table started with his entree order as he had not heard that we were ordering drinks.. again, the response by Chad was flat and not very warm... Originally from the northeast, but having dined all throughout the country, I don't believe this restaurant lives up to it's reputation. Frankie Bones is consistent and better, so why go to WiseGuys. My dish had quality meat but lack the flavor and seasoning it should have had. It's off our list to visit given so many quality restaurants in the region. I also grew up Italian and exposed to really good Italian fare and that plays a factor here as well. If you don't know the difference, one may think this restaurant is better than it is. read more

We researched and planned ahead to visit this restaurant. Made a reservation ahead of time and looked forward to visiting all day. Requested patio seating as the weather was perfect for it. Showed up early and checked in and was seated outside. Sat outside for 25 minutes and nobody even checked on us or brought us water. My DH and I stopped in for an early dinner (Happy Hour) for a lite meal. We live in the SC upstate and have a condo on HHI that we love to visit. WG has always been on our list to visit while here. We realize this is a tourist area and know many regulars and locals eat at the bar. Our order included filet sliders, shrimp bisque and their featured pizza. The bisque was hot, spicy and plenty of salt. The pizza was delicious as were the sliders. We sat at the bar and were served drinks quickly and that's about where the good service ended. We were among the first to arrive and asked for the FedEx golf tournament to be turned on the TV which it was. After about 30 minutes 2 other customers had the channel changed to a 3rd quarter football game while many at the bar (3 couples) were watching golf. Note, the requesters were not even watching the game. We politely protested, finished and left. The food was good, service was OK but we felt slighted for the channel change issue and service. Our severer was very friendly and attentive to everyone at the bar but us. She never approached us after the food came or checked on us. Thank you to the young man who boxed our leftovers. Our last night in town for Spring Break with our teen and we wanted another option besides purely seafood but also with an upscale feel. All 3 of us loved our food! We usually make reservations but this was a last minute find and we were seated right away on a Saturday night. Service very good and the place was beautiful. Packed for basketball games but still the interior vibe felt like an old school New York Steakhouse. Dinner started with warm bread and our server didn't miss a beat. Bourbon choices like we've never seen and also an extensive wine and cocktail list. We started with the Brussel sprouts and Crab cake. Both were phenomenal. Our teen even loved the Brussels! For meals we ordered a smash burger & fries, a pasta bolognase dish and a white vegetarian lasagna. Everything was eaten. We agreed some of the best food we've had here and also at home! Our daughter finished with the bourbon bread pudding and ate almost the entire thing. I'm a little disappointed in this year's visit to WiseGuys. Last year, everything was amazing. The food, drinks and service. This year was a bit different. Our server seemed like he didn't want to be there and we were in such a good mood and excited - so this put a bit of a damper on the meal. The drinks weren't perfect, the martinis were super neat when we asked for dirty, so we had to ask for extra brine. For the price the porterhouse it was way too grisly and the filet only had one or two bites of filet quality. The portions were also a bit smaller than expected. Enjoyed a cozy date night here. On the island for a vacation and love to find spots that locals approve of- this is definitely one of them. Cozy lounge vibe inside, outdoor seating is nice as well. Staff was extremely attentive and helpful, timing when checking in was perfect. Enjoyed cocktails, salads and entrees. Everything was great. Standouts we're the sword fish, fresh bread and and sweet potatoes. Salads were fresh and flavorful and quantity was no object. Both entrees were great and again had generous amounts of food. We had a big group and someone else picked the venue, so I didn't really know what to expect until I looked at the menu. Its more steakhouse than Italian and I was fully expecting to order a good hunk of red meat. But our waiter said the smashburger special was exceptional, so that caught my eye. Boy was he right! Perfectly cooked and the meat was so flavorful; by far the best burger on the island. The fries and WG salad were good, but probably should have went for something different. Hilton Head Island in the last decade has seen a number of entrants into the category for modern American cuisine, with WiseGuys being one of the latest. We dined as a group of 4 on Christmas Eve, with reservations around 5:30. We were promptly seated in a booth which we found comfortable, if a bit cramped (the table was quite close to both sides of the booth). We were greeted by an INCREDIBLY enthusiastic server who demonstrated excellent knowledge of the menu. While I found his joking style somewhat off putting and a bit overly familiar, there was no question that he was very familiar with the menu and was able to make recommendations, including wine pairings. To start, we ordered the babaganoush (a grilled eggplant dip, for the unfamiliar). This took some time to come out, and did not come out until after we had asked where it was when we were served our soup and salad. Though the babaganoush was good (and served with extra pita bread, on our waiters suggestion), this mishap was somewhat disappointing, but forgivable on a busy Christmas Eve. Our party ordered lobster bisque and a Caesar salad for our first course. The Caesar salad was unremarkable, and the lobster bisque portion (a cup), seemed rather small relative to other restaurants in the area at similar price points. Dinner remained unremarkable, with no member of the party particularly excited or disappointed by their meal. My mother ordered the prosciutto and fig jam pizzeta. While enjoyable, I found it overly sweet compared to a similar slice of pizza I had had recently at L'Industrie in Brooklyn. My father had the delmonico, at the waiters recommendation. He found the steak overly chewy, though cooked at the proper temperature. He seemed satisfied with the jacket potato, but that is a bit of a "gimme", to use a golf term. My sister had the lobster risotto which was also acceptable, if not memorable. Finally, I ordered the Fruit of the Seas pasta, which I found to be average compared to similar dishes I had had before. Of note, the octopus in the dish was quite chewy, which I did not enjoy, while mussels served in shell in pasta have long been a pet peeve of mine. Dessert was the highlight of the meal, with the table sharing pineapple upside down cake along with the Crème Brûlée flight. Both were great, and would certainly be a recommendation if you find yourself at WiseGuys. The crème brûlée flight in particular was a lot of fun for the table, and though not the first time I had had something like that, more creative than most desserts you'll see on the island. Overall an acceptable experience, though not one we will hurry to repeat. In diagnosing what went wrong with the experience, one should look to the menu. WiseGuys has a wide variety of small plates, pizzettas, soup and salad, about a dozen entrees, rotisserie meats, and steak. This strikes me as a case of the classic "jack of all trades, master of none" scenario. Perhaps WiseGuys could be improved with a more focused menu, but in its current state could use a lot of work in ensuring that everything is at a high quality worthy of the price points on the menu. Perhaps my father put it best in describing the meal: "expensive Outback, but not quite as good." read more
