We were moving into a new home that had no hot water. We purchased a new hot water heater and burner from Automatic Heating Equipment in Providence, RI. We contacted our planned oil company (Petro), which we were planning to use for oil delivery, to install the new system. I explained that I had the tank plumbed in and just needed someone to install the burner. They said even though it was brand new heater and burner in the box, because they didn't provide it, they would not install it. We scrambled around and found Bill's Heating. I explained the situation to Bill over text and the urgency. Bill's technician Eric came out the next day and had us all connected and tuned-up. Bill's Heating Service is a hidden gem of business! He explained that my on-demand oil system could then be turned off in the summer, saving money. I stupidly trusted that advice rather than research it. First, it makes no sense for a weekend house to heat water all the time when we are almost never there. Second, electric at the time was the only source of energy that was more expensive than oil. And that was when oil cost a lot more. So there is no way for a more expensive energy source that is always on to save money over a cheaper source that is on-demand. To matters worse, he plumbed it after the on-demand oil heater. So I can't even turn off the electric and go back to the oil since it would have to fill the entire electric tank! He should have put it before the oil heater, or run a bypass pipe with valves. I blame myself for agreeing to it, but he should know better. But he got his up-sell I guess. I feel burned. I am still upset every time I have to go to the circuit breaker to turn it on and off when we arrive and leave.

They also ran 240V into the garage for a possible EV charger. None of this was simple -- It required trenching between the house and the garage, and since our house is eighty years old, they had to do a lot of fiddling around old electric and telephone wires. My wife bought an all-electric vehicle two weeks ago and Paul advised me on which charger to buy, installed it two days ago and we love it! Along the way, Paul and his crew helped me understand the interplay between the street power, our solar production, and our generator. We decided not to have the 240V charger line backed up by the generator as the new 7kW demand could overload it. I really like working with Paul and his crew. They employ techs who are either unqualified or just don't care. If you contact the office with an issue, they speak to you like they are doing you a favor. Recently they subbed out service calls to somewhere in Georgia, odd for a local business. In my experience the only way to get them to call you when you have an issue is to stop paying them. They will contact you as soon as they don't get paid; but will act confused as to why you aren't paying them for a service that you didn't receive.

In doing so, they found that my furnace was allegedly broken with a variety of reasons why, causing me to have no heat and a hefty quote for a new furnace. Ironically, it was working fine before they came, I just wanted to get an routine maintenance. I shopped around for contractors to give quotes on this project. I contacted Ralph from New England Heating & Cooling and he came the next day to give me a quote. Prior to giving me a quote, he wanted to see if he can fix my furnace to determine if it was actually broken. He noticed that my previous HVAC company left some power lines to the furnace unconnected (whether it was deliberate or accidental is another issue). Ralph also found that the flame sensor was dirty. He made some suggestions in regards to replacing my nest thermostat which might have explained the subpar performance to begin with. He assured me that the furnace was not an issue and that the first HVAC company lied about it being broken. He could have just smacked a quote and left, but he took the time to troubleshoot my problem instead of selling me on an unnecessary replacement. I would work with him again if I have any more issues with my furnace, honest guy.

So I only had 1 delivery a year. But regardless of how small the delivery was they always topped off my tank. But about a year ago the owners decided to retire and enjoy life. So they sold the business to Guard Oil in Fairhaven. Guard Oil is an excellent company. I have recently had many e-mails and phone conversations with them pertaining to my oil tank replacement and my account. They answered all my questions and gave me satisfactory results.
