So I love Chinese food, and am new to Monterey County. Finding my 'go to' Chinese food restaurant is pretty important on satisfying my food cravings. Eagle was my first stop. We ordered 5 dishes using takeout as we passed through Salinas on our way home. Food was prepared in 15-20 minutes. So far, so good. We ordered salt and pepper shrimp, wonton with peanut sauce, potstickers, sesame beef, and Thai style beef chow fun. None of these dishes stood out. All 5 were very average. No inspiration or exciting preparations here. Even though we ask for spicy preparations, none were prepared spicy. There's nothing wrong with Eagle except the food is very average with nothing to get excited about. I'm looking for more exciting food. The search continues. read more

Fantastic casual Chinese restaurant recommended by the locals; would visit all the time if I lived in the area. Vegan friendly and participating in the Monterey County Blue Zone project. Loved the eggplant with fried tofu and the delicious chow fun noodles (completely vegan). My vegan dining companion rated his dishes as "excellent". Stopped here because we were craving some Chinese food. Food was really good and with good protein to vegetable portion ratio. I've had many crab ragoons and crab angles but their crab meat angles are none like I've ever tasted before. I would definitely go back just for those alone. Curry rice was flavorful. Salt and pepper shrimp was crispy. Ended up taking half our food home. Service was very tentative even though our server was alone servicing 5 other tables. read more

Our FAVORITE spot in Salinas. Good food, good service. Everything tastes fresh and the flavors blend well together in all of the dishes we have had so far. Sam and his team do not fail to please! I appreciate the consistency of tasty hot quickly-served food no matter if you are there for a tight lunch hour for 4, a lesisurely dinner for 2, or home deliver for 1 (which is mostly what I do.) Fast, friendly service. Fantastic food. The walnut shrimp is very good. The Mongolian Beef is great, either spicy or non-spicy. The sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour pork are always very tasty. They do a custom vegetable dish for us that includes asparagus. I hate asparagus. I love their asparagus. When my family first tried out Eagle Restaurant we had very high hopes for it. So my family tried it again for a second chance and to my surprise I felt that the quality has changed at Eagle Restaurant since the first my family tried it. Take for instance when I took a bite of the pork chow mein I noticed that the noodles were different and as a noodle fan I know how good noodles taste and there was very little pork in the pork chow mein. Second when my mom and I ate the rice we thought it was pork fried rice but it was actually brown rice with few vegetables and I don't know how Eagle Restaurant has survived in Salinas but this was the straw that broke the camel's back for my family as fans of this restaurant and how they survive i'll never know the answer to read more

My neighbor and I had lunch at the Eagle on Christmas Day. I used to have lunch there frequently and always enjoyed the service and the food. This time the three dishes we shared were all bland to the point of tastelessness, even the dish we requested extra garlic sauce on. The cook clearly didn't bother to honor that request. Yes, the restaurant was busy filling carry-out orders, but there was no excuse for ignoring the needs of the patrons. Very disappointed. read more

What a wonderful surprise. The Eagle has jumped up to our Number One Chinese place in town. The past couple of times we got take out we have loved the food! The portions are huge, the choices unusual and interesting, and the flavor spectacular. Be forewarned, family meals are huge! Our family meal for two could easily have fed four! I made a to go order by calling over the phone. I ordered the egg flower soup and was told it would be ready 5 to 10 minutes but by the time I walked over to the restaurant I was able to pay and only wait a few minutes before receiving my very hot and fresh soup. with tip, the soup cost me $10. However, it is a very large portion and will last me at least two meals. Loved the taste and all the veggies they put in the soup especially since I didn't want any meat in there. Overall it was a great experience and I'll definitely order to go again! read more

What has happened to the quality meals I used to enjoy? I ordered online for pick up. The food was ready in minutes, but now I know why. The vegetable fried rice was not fried and had tiny bits of vegetables. The Egg rolls were burned and smelled of burnt oil, the inside mushy and under cooked. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was not crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside, definitely undercooked. It was not fresh chicken bites but fingerlings, most likely pre frozen. And again, they tasted like burnt oil, bitter. The sauce was served on the side, not tossed. Tasteless all the way around. Cashew Chicken was just ok, but not the freshness I used to love. So disappointed. Please slow down and put the love back in your food. read more

This review is based off one take out order that I had while being stuck in my hotel because of Covid. Take it with a grain of salt. A colleague told me this was the best Chinese food in the area. I was excited because of all the culinary delights that San Diego has to offer, Chinese is lacking. Sadly, I wasn't super excited about the couple of dishes I received. The per diem my company offers is $75 for dinner, so I got a few items from the menu: The spring rolls appetizer, hot and sour soup, and Mongolian beef. The spring rolls were tasty. The peanut sauce was fantastic. My soup was gigantic! I was able to eat the rest of it for lunch the next day. By the time I got to the Mongolian beef, I wasn't super hungry. That was a good thing, because it was a TON of onions that could have been cooked a bit longer. They were mostly raw. I don't know if I'd hurry back to Eagle, but if you wanted to get some takeout, I'd join you. read more

Love the food here. It's a great spot. The Szechuan chicken is my go to. Fried rice is great. Hot and sour soup is so good. Ambience is great because staff remembers everyone. Bathroom is a long walk towards the back of restaurant. Always clean. If you need hotter hot sauce then what's on the table just ask. read more

Ordered lunch to go. Picked up within 15 minutes. Upon checking my order I realized it wasn't close to what they call Mongolian beef . Seems they serve Mongolian Onion with a double portion of bland fried rice. Wont return and definitely not recommend. read more

When I walked in from the rain I was greeted warmly, the restaurant was nicely lit, cheerful and clean. The choice of food was amazing. I heard some diners request something not on the menu; ;"No problem, we can do that for you," chirped the server -Sam, the owner. The food came out quickly, it was hot and appetizing. The portions were on the generous side. There is a friendly ambiance to the restaurant - many of the diners seemed to be regulars and had friendly exchanges with the owners/waiters. I enjoyed eating this delicious meal here. The soup had flavor and a kick of spice to it. While the meat was soft and had a well season base. The other meals where as well balanced and flavourful as the rest. The service was excellent, and quick for only a few workers. Its probably been a good 10-15 years since my last visit so I was like what the hell all these…read morenegative reviews cant be right. But, they are. On this visit I ordered Orange Chicken, Fried Egg Rolls, Shrimp Fried Rice and House Pan Fried Noodle Sizzling Plate. The Orange Chicken was not pieces instead somehow I got a large clump of pieces stuck together. Some did not even have any sauce on them, most of the sauce was just at the bottom of the container like I was supposed to mix my own. The Shrimp Fried Rice was also not good. Instead of the rice being crispy and fried, it was soft and also just a ball of soggy rice. The House Plate was also pretty bad. Large pieces of vegetables not alot of noodles and tons of sauce at the bottom of the plate instead of everything else. Honestly I know this is hard to believe but I would have rather had Panda Express and thats saying something. Needless to say I wont be back.

I actually had to circle back to find it, which already made it feel like a bit of a hidden gem. Arriving around 1:30 pm, the dining room was completely empty at first glance. For a moment I wondered if they were closed, until I noticed the doors slightly ajar. Not long after stepping in, I was greeted and invited to sit wherever I liked, which added a relaxed, unhurried feel to the whole experience. I went with the Mango Beef Special Lunch Combo ($10.99) The dish came with generous crisp vegetables, chunks of mango that paired nicely with the zesty savory beef. The fried rice and chow mein leaned a bit on the mild side flavor-wise, but a touch of chili oil and some of the entrée sauce brought everything to life. The combo also includes soup of the day and your choice of appetizer, making it a well-rounded plate. Portion-wise, it's more than fair--especially for the price. In fact, it easily undercuts most nearby Chinese spots and even fast food options, in the later case being obviously fresher and more balanced alternative. This feels like the kind of place you root for. I'll be back to explore more of the menu--and honestly, I'd take supporting a quiet local kitchen like this over a fast food chain any day.
