The dog park by itself is great but there are some bad people that bring aggressive dogs and they tend to bite people and other dogs sometimes. If your dog is aggressive, please don't bring a them to the dog park. The place is awesome though although l wish they cleaned it more now. It seems like the city stopped cleaning the park in weekly basis leaving gross spots or urine at the entrance and benches. I think all the heavy cuts from the actual government is making things hard for the city to get funds and people to do these things. read more

This is definitely a park for big dogs, not so much little dogs. Some of the big dogs are gentle giants, but not all, so be careful if you choose to bring your small/medium sized dog here. My dog is small and had a great time at the park with a couple of dogs (big and small), but I would still caution any owners who choose to bring their small dogs here. There were no bad incidents when I was here on a Sunday morning, but I also watched my dog like a hawk. I didn't let him out of my sight to converse with other people nor did I look at my phone. There were about 25-ish big dogs (60-120 lbs) and maybe 6-9 small dogs (6-15 lbs). The majority of the dogs have collars and harnesses on, which is great if a fight breaks out and people needed to pull them apart. However, a good handful of big dogs weren't collared or harnessed. So, owner caution is advised! Some of the pros include the beauty of this park, the dog owners seem to gel pretty well, and, overall, people are pretty watchful. Also, the fake grass helps to keep the dogs cleaner and there are plenty of seating for the humans. As for the cons - it seems like street parking only, there is a homeless encampment, and it's a shared dog park (no separate enclosures), and it is a small-owners-BEWARE-type situation. I took my pup to this new dog park today, and we both loved it! Yes, there is no division for small dogs or big, but my tiny pup Archie has a blast playing with big dogs and small ones. Perhaps because we took him on a weekday at 1pm it wasn't insanely busy, but there were maybe 15 dogs at most at any given time. Archie was recently attacked by a large shaggy dog while walking him in my neighborhood, so bringing him here is an attempt to socialize him and reintroduce him to the fact that not all large dogs will jump him. He was wary at first, but all of the dogs were great and their owners were vigilant at all times. The AstroTurf was great, it didn't get grossly hot like one reviewer said? But it wasn't that hot today? I love the space, and once inside, you can't see the tent city. The cars driving by make some noise, but hey we live in LA! I like the water fountains...a low one that pumps fresh water for the pups. Mine, and many, don't like to drink from the slobbery water bowls! Parking was easy, we parked closer to the rec center. I am excited to have a CLEAN dog park that isn't just a huge patch of dirt, and can't wait to take Archie back again soon. read more

I couldn't believe some of these reviews. Hilarious. I had never considered reviewing a dog park. I was looking for somewhere in the area to take a friend's dog. It's very clean for a public park. It's very well laid out and convenient. I found plenty of parking on the other side of the beautiful park and had a lovely stroll over to the big enclosed dog area. It's in a city park. It's free. It's got shady seating for humans. There are homeless people everywhere in Los Angeles so I don't understand anyone complaining about this, has nothing to do with the dog park. Owners with poorly behaved animals (or poorly behaved owners) or owners not cleaning up the poop or animals humping other animals has nothing to do with the park. Same issues anywhere animals gather. It's a good option in the area for a dog to run around free and socialize. The dog I took loved it. If you prefer a park that has a separate area for smaller dogs it's not for you. read more

Definitely will go back. There was lots of parking on the street and a fair amount of parking in the parking lot. There is a nice play structure for children on the top level. If you walk down from the lot there's a grassy area with tables and a covered area good for parties. The bottom level has two baseball fields where the dog gather and play. Owners were very mindful of their dogs, picked up their dogs poop and were pretty friendly. I think people started arriving around 5/530pm. It was pretty nice. Dogs of all sizes as well. read more

My 7 month old puppy's first time at a dog park and she was having a blast. She is very sweet and friendly. Another person let there big Labrador dog hump my dog ..TWICE. The person saw and didn't say anything - no apology... did not put their dog on a leash.. did not tell their dog no... I took my dog away from that dog and let her continue to play. One minute later the dog comes back and does it again. I had to run over and push the big Labrador off my dog and said can someone get their dog? No one came. I was upset, I decided to take my puppy home since people let their dogs do this to other dogs. Animals catch STDS too. read more

This dog park has the "oooh, aaah" brand new factor, but I honestly would not recommend this park to any dog owner. With no small dog / large dog partition, all sizes are allowed to interact, and creates a HUGE safety issue. A small dog was (potentially) fatally injured here by a dog 15x its weight. Playful intent or not, this size/weight disparity has no place in a dog park. It was absolutely heart-wrenching to witness this tragedy and I feel like this park - despite just opening its awkward doors - should be shut down and re-vamped to keep small dogs and large dogs apart. The space is quite large, so there's plenty of room to split the territory into two parts. Aside from this massive flaw, the park has (real) trees, some man-made shade, benches, a water station and some toys. But the artificial grass is bound to stink sooner than later, and the steep hills and rock piles are big turn offs. There's also a fenced off sewer opening where all the tennis balls wind up. Very little parking directly outside the space, and it's located next to a freeway underpass packed with homeless squatters. There's lots of nooks and crannies here so it can be easy to lose sight of a small dog. Also, people who sit on the piss-soaked boulders and fake grass - SHAME. The list of cons vastly overshadows any pros this dog park may have, which makes it a monumental let down. Unless a partition is created or restrictions are made/enforced, the awkward doors should be shut for good. Absolutely awful. read more

Happened to drive by while on the way to another dog park.. decided to stop by n try it out. Tucked away in a corner/valley. But looks like it's on the newer side with the landscaping, fake grass & sunshades. On the smaller side but still does the job. It can feel crowded Bc of the size, but the dogs still enjoy it and you can easily keep an eye on the pups. No big/small dog sides though, but didn't seem to be a problem with the group on a Sunday afternoon. Didn't like the parking situation.. on a busy street. Not ideal when wrangling two pups. We parked around the corner on a less busy street and took a nice stroll through the park to get to the entrance. (The park has a bathroom, but it was closed). read more

First of all, a big thank you to all of the people who helped make this place happen. Good job! The Eagle Rock Dog Park is one of the smallest dog parks I have been to but it is very nice. The main area has a cement walkway that runs through the middle of the artificial turf area in the middle of the park (150ft x 40 ft is my eyeball estimate of the turf). The perimeter of the park has hills and trees for the dogs to poke around and explore. The fences and doors are secure which is important since Figueroa is a high traffic street. The Good: great park, clean, lots of shade, good use of space. The Bad: the park is small, no big dog/small dog areas, parking is less than ideal. Visited the dog park today on a Friday afternoon around noon. PARKING: I was confused on how to get there because the address takes you to a parking lot that is a ways away from the actual dog park, which is on the other end of the recreation park. Turns out you are better off parking on the street near the actual dog park and not the lot, if you want to be close. PARK: I loved how versatile the terrain was at this park BUT was not a fan of an all-sizes dog park. :/ I felt I had to be more vigilant with my little one because there were several large dogs who would easily trample him. However, the park offers lots of nooks and crannies for your pup to explore too. If the park had seperate spaces, I'd be super happy and give 5 stars. This is the most unique, beautifully designed dog park I've ever seen! From rolling hills, dog-specific grass, trees, boulders, and more, it's definitely the nicest dog park in Los Angeles and a great addition to the community. Our dog had a blast! People should, of course, understand dog park etiquette -- watch over your pup, scoop the poop, etc. People in Eagle Rock always complain over silly things, but this place is amazing. I visited Eagle Rock Dog Park and so I'll give my opinion both in my experience there as well as in response to what some of the other Yelp reviewers have posted, many of which have legitimate points but whether that needs to drive the dog park down to between 1 to 3 stars is depending upon your feelings. Obviously, the dog park is new so it is nice. It's very spacious with a lot of opportunities for dogs to play, owners to relax and mingle, and ultimately they've created a fun experience. We went on a weekday afternoon. It was relaxed. Probably about 8-10 dogs and their owners. All friendly. It went very well. I can imagine that on the weekends this park could get very popular and so there may be perhaps too many dogs and people for the area. A number of reviewers have pointed out that there is not separate areas for small dogs and large dogs. That is accurate. So, I would say that if this is a concern for you, do not come to this park. Regardless, as a responsible dog owner, even if you do come to this park, you should just be aware of your dog and how he or she plays with others as compared to their size. A couple of reviews pointed out an incident that seemed to happen in which a small dog may have been fatally attacked by a larger dog. This is horrible. But that comes again, from dog owners having enough sense to decide if this is the right dog park for them, and then appropriately caring and monitoring for their and other dogs when playing is occurring. Yes, the park should have been better constructed to have separate areas. At the same time, the onus is on us as dog owners to attempt to prevent such situations from occurring and this likely happened thanks to the irresponsible nature of a large dog owner (irritating as it gives a bad name to many of us other large dog owners). Someone pointed out that the locks to the doors are a problem. They are a bit odd. But once you try it again, the door opens. Do I wish the door were maybe not that odd? Sure. But do I really hold it that hard against the dog park? Not enough to plummet its Yelp rating. Some people have pointed out that it is very close to a tent area on Figueroa and that there are many homeless near the park. That is the case but you don't need to park in that area if that is a concern to you. There is easily street parking on Eagle Vista Drive or you can just pull up to the Rec Center parking lot and then take a nice walk with your dog through the park and baseball diamond to get over to the dog park. So, all in all, I still think this is a dog park worth going to if you live around the Eagle Rock neighborhood or are with your dog in the area. The shortcomings people have mentioned about the park are worth knocking it down to a 4-star experience. However, these Yelp reviews provide you with awareness. If you like to sit on your phone and not care about your dog at a dog park, if your small dog fears large dogs or large dog will maul small dogs, if you have some sort of issue with doors not opening on the first try, or if you fear the homeless, then this dog park isn't for you. Otherwise, I'd say give it a shot and see if you and your dog are fans! read more

My dog was attacked this morning by a medium sized black dog and she has several punctures on her gums and lip. I witness this other dog attack a labradoodle right before and the owner did nothing. After he attacked my dog, he took the dog and left. Didn't apologize or take responsibility. Some dog owners are really fucking lame. don't take your dog around other dogs unless your dog is trained. I'm still shaking. I have never been involved in a situation like this, it was terrifying. read more

A nice park with Astro turf and dirt. The door is secure and easy to operate. Some dog parks have slightly finicky locks and this one does not. There are a couple canopies and a decent amount of shade. There are also some benches which are nice. The water fountain is under the shade which is great for keeping the dogs cool while drinking. Not sure what the maintenance of the Astro turf is. Luckily it was not smelly on a hot day. Hope that means it's disinfected regularly. Unfortunately there are a lot of flies which is kinda gross. There were a decent amount of dogs late morning/early afternoon when I went. I would say this is more like 3.5* due to the flies. read more

What a lovely little park! I have been wanting to go since they have opened last May of 2019 but unfortunately lost my pup early last year. We got another pup, and we were so happy we were able to visit. Parking was pretty easy, as the park is located in Eagle Rock Rec Center if you are familiar with the area. We did, however, exit Figueroa and found an open spot immediately. I should mention there is no big dog and small dog separation like other reviewers have mentioned, so just keep in mind if your dog is small, be wary of other dogs that may tower over them. There was no big dog or any dog sorta drama when we visited on a Sunday afternoon. It was super calming, and I highly recommend to dog owners that wanna let their dogs release their energy. This is a wonderful dog park, so far. This park has turf and paved paths, which are nice. It's not just a bunch of urine-soaked compact dirt and sand. It's much larger than I expected, lots of room for dogs to run around, including uphill. There is some shade from tarps, as well as some trees. You can see they've added some saplings that will hopefully provide even more shade. There is a lot of bench seating, but no picnic tables. Not that we want picnic tables at a dog park. You have a pretty good line of site across the whole park from any bench, so your dog won't likely disappear from view if your decide to sit. There is no separate small dog area. I think this is a good thing, but then again I have a bigger dog. While we were there, the dogs of all sizes all got along really well. Please keep an eye on your dog when you're here, especially if your dog is still learning to socialize. If your dog is always in the middle of the vicious fights, it's not the other dogs. As the saying goes, if you smell crap wherever you go, check the bottom of your own shoes. I'm not sure what hours this is open. The Rec Center is open 10am to 9pm, but I don't think those are the dog park hours. Some dog parks are open sunset to sunrise. It would be nice if this park opened very early, so we can enjoy the morning coolness this summer. The park is actually located on Figueroa, not Eagle Vista. I have been coming to this park for almost a year now. There is plenty of parking around the park. I usually go on weekends between 9am - 11am. For the most part, all the dogs are friendly there. On one instance, there was a large dog that was playing rough with the little dogs, but the owner responded quickly and left with the large dog. I love the fact that there is grass! I don't have to bathe my dogs every weekend no matter how much they played. As others have noted, there is no separation for small/large dogs. My dogs are Frenchies and they do well with the rest of the dogs at the park. I would not recommend this park if you have a very tiny dog because dogs do intermingle and your pup may just end up terrified. read more

This is a fantastic new-ish dog park that I do recommend if you like taking your dogs to dog parks. That being said, there was a couple with a golden retriever (I used to have one, amazing pups) but unfortunately the playing style of this dog was extremely rough. Pinned our dog, and others down, multiple times and growled too viciously. I know, dogs play etc especially at a dog park, but when they didn't step in after I tried breaking it up they said that dogs do this and to get off their dog. I have an ask out to the neighborhood that if you go to this or any dog park, please be courteous of the comfort level of the other dog owners. We have loved this dog park since opening. Yet- today I witnessed a small dog fatally bitten by a large dog. I am heartbroken after this awful event. I have enjoyed the mix of big and little dogs- but it just takes one second. One. I am grateful for this park. The tent city hasn't seemed to provide issues. We had a situation here yesterday we're our Dog was attacked by another dog. The owner fled the spot in the midst of it all. Before I could realize it my pup was bleeding and with multiple marks around his body. His ear has been cut in half and we have to pay out of pocket expenses due to this cut. The male schnauzer wouldn't leave my dog alone and kept trying to hump (have sex) with my dog also a male. My dog was just trying to get him away but he went for the kill. This is my first time being a dog owner if someone could please tell me what to do. read more

Pros: - It's not a dirt lot. There's astro turf. It's pretty? I had high hopes for this park....but what a disappointment. Cons: - Street parking only and the spaces closest to the park are in direct line of a freeway exit so cars are flying down the offramp at scary speeds. BE CAREFUL! All other street parking is a bit of a trek. At least these spaces aren't currently metered? It's also close to a small tented city under the freeway overpass that might make some folks nervous. - The locks on the entry gates to this park are a pain in the butt to open! Why did they make them so difficult!?! Don't they know you've got an excited dog to contend to and now they've made this complicated locking mechanism for us to deal with, too? - This is not a park designed for dogs to play fetch. You can't throw too far without probably hitting someone standing/walking on the meandering concrete path that cuts down the middle of the small park. If your pooch isn't looking because he/she is focused on the flight of the ball, they could easily turn a furry paw on the uneven ground when running from astro turf to concrete path to areas with a curb or dirt. They may even crash into one of the random boulders scattered around the fake grass. I know, because I stubbed my toe on an unexpected low curb just keeping an eye on my dog. MISC. Observations : - Speaking of those boulders, dogs are marking them, yet humans are sitting on them looking at their phone and not their dog. Humans are also laying down or sitting on the fake grass without something between them and the turf. YUCK. This is fake grass. There is no sprinkler system to water it regularly, it won't grow or get mowed. read more

There is a nice diversity of textures at this park. There is a bit of dirt, many trees, lots of shade and seating. The center has astroturf. The small and large dogs are not separated. My big boy B enjoyed his mini hike up the cliff and behind the tree line along the fence with in the park. read more

We love this Dog Park - "we" being myself and my 6.5 lb. terrier/chihuahua mix canine companion. Unlike some parks we've visited -- where the dog owners are so engrossed in staring at their phones that havoc rules -- folks here are extremely attentive. As noted, my dog is small, but that hasn't been a problem as the large dogs tend to play together, and the smaller ones also seem to gravitate to specific areas. Whenever we go, I spend a few minutes walking the perimeter, ascertaining any potential dog issues, but I am in actuality looking at the people who are there, how much attention they are paying, and their overall vibe. I've met some super interesting dog owners and my dog enjoys the exercise and the interaction. read more

The dog park itself is very attractive, and our dog had a good time. I like that the terrain in the park is varied and offers more exploration than a dirt field. However, you should know that a very large encampment has been set up in a parking lot across from this park. We were approached by a very upset man threatening to kill himself, and tried to contact authorities to find him help. There was also an issue with our car alarm and I suspect someone might have been trying to get into our car. And all that in a span of 20 mins. It just seems like the area is a little out of control at the moment, so be cautious. Everyone at the park was very nice. Maybe we'll try again someday.
