My partner, the hound dogs, and I took a mini getaway to Los Angeles and visited Silver Lake Dog Park. It was exciting to meet fellow basset hounds, which is rare on the West Coast. The park has ample street parking and features both small and large dog parks. While it could use more shade, it's spacious and has plenty of sand, meaning our dogs got a bit dirty. I had a decent experience at this dog park being it was my first time ever going inside a park meant for dogs. I would come by again. I wouldn't go out of my way like I did to check it out though. Much rather walk by the lake! I would just say as a responsible owner to keep an eye on your dog as anything can happen. I was really glad to see there was a separate small and large dog section not because my dog gets frightened or intimidated by larger breeds but just the general idea for dogs of similar size can have open space to play. There's also a sign with rules of what's forbidden such as unneutered dogs, sick dogs etc. It's nice the sign enforces this but how can we tell if everyone's following these rules... I'm not sure! I made conversation with some asking how the scene is at this dog park and they have told me they frequent the park often and have not gotten into any altercations or incidents and they feel pretty comfortable which was reassuring. There was a group of dogs chasing, sniffing, and barking amongst each other in the center of the play area so I was off to the sides with my dog as he's not trained off-leash yet. I had him on the ground and he preferred to be more chill with the sniffers and grass eaters with the occasional ball play. I did notice some old and falling apart tennis balls for your furry friend to fetch. And a drinking fountain with a dog bowl where dogs happily crowded around. I'm a bit more conservative about these things and prefer not to use these but it seems like the dogs get comfortable here. I do have to say there was a Shiba Inu and a medium-large dog that went from bark matching to pouncing on eachother and a group of dogs were surrounding the two like a mosh pit. The owners didn't realize and was at the other side of the park then finally jumped in to break off the two. No one was hurt thankfully! read more

First of all i would like to say maybe having a pet clinic at this park is a poor idea and if you have a pet thats's not a dog, it's a VERY BAD idea. I have always had dogs but currently I have three rabbits. Mr. Frost, Porsche Maserati and Tatiana. Usually we follow this vet for his pop up clinic So that is what brought me to this location. Normally we see this vet in West Hollywood but this year Silver Lake Off The Leash dog park was avail. i would have to agree taking my bunnies to a dog park and to actually go inside the area is strange but i was in the frame of mind of being a responsible pet owner and getting their yearly shot. So i arrive early and it starts off okay but then dogs start approaching me and the bunnies carriers. i also was surprised at the owners not coming to get their dogs. I had to ask them is this your dog before they would do anything. DUH, i know its a dog park but aren't we all pet parents and we understand as responsible pet parents that our pets need to get their shots. i was very SHOCKED at the behavior of this group of people. Actually there was a couple of cool pet owners there but the majority is really strange. To be honest they try to run this park like a gang , but they are not true thugs with street credentials. They are more like crap talking malnutrition gamers. and whatever you call male Karen's? . This one guy's dog came running up to me and going for the carriers who are sitting up on picnic table. His dog is becoming anxious and finally he makes his way over to me and I said can you please get your dog? He says they are in a cage? So i guess because my rabbits are in a carrier i should let your dog harass them ? This is the attitude of this place and i was like Wow this place and these people SUCK. PARASITE WARNING: Hi guys! Just a warning that my dogs got Ancylostoma parasites here. Make sure your dogs don't sniff around too much or share from the water bowls. It was the first time I took them somewhere public apart from our backyard in 5 months. They've now been sick for 3 weeks with constant diarrhea and no appetite. Decided to stop by on a whim because our dog was begging when he saw the other dogs playing across the street. This is a fairly large dog park, with separate pens for smaller and larger dogs, though owners frequently bring small dogs into the larger pen. We do as well, as our corgi likes to play with bigger dogs. This park in particular does not have much grass - it's primarily dirt for the dogs to run around on, with a few objects - rocks, trees, a couple. benches - scattered around. What I didn't like about this park is that there's not much parking available beyond the street spaces, and it's right near a busy road, so there isn't much availability and you might have to circle around. I also prefer grass or turf parks as there's less dust and dirt flying around when the dogs run. In this park, you can expect that both you and your dog will get dirty. Not much seating either, so you may have to stand the whole time if it's busy. To the park's credit, there's a good amount of shaded spots under trees to stand out of the way of the hot sun. There are double gated entrances where you can leash your dog, and there are poop bags available. I think this is a great park if your dog likes to run around and needs a lot of space, if you don't mind the dirt and dust getting kicked up, and if you're local and can walk here. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but glad we got to try it out :) read more

I'm pretty picky when it comes to dog parks. I prefer there to be actual grass but I understand that living in LA, that's not always possible--especially during times of drought. How I rate dog parks are based on the following: 1. Gound covering: Grass earns highest marks followed by grass-dirt combo, astroturf, just dirt, and wood chips as last. (I hate wood chips, they visually hide everything so you'll often step in dog crap that's hard to see and dirt clouds goes flying with every step you or your dogs make). 2. Size: can my dog run laps or just basically trot in a small circle. Also, is the park is split into large and small dog areas. 3. Drinking fountain: every good dog park need this and it shouldn't be some rusty, crusty, algae and moss forming spout. 4. Irrigation: sounds odd but it goes tandem with the drinking fountain and ground covering. If there is no drainage in place, then the drinking fountain area may become a muddy or still water pond. Similarly, without proper cleaning and irrigation for astroturf parks, urine that is not regularly washed away will result in an entire park smelling like baked dry urine. 5. Amenities for Humans: places for me to sit or stand under shade while my dogs runs around. Also, is there a double-gated entry? Are there poop bag dispensers? Are there pooper-scoopers with multiple trash cans throughout? I do not rate on people because that cannot be controlled. You may encounter horrible people/dogs at the park who do not frequent it on the day of your visit. Similarly, you may meet the nicest people/dogs who are out-of-towners simply passing through. Unlike staff who work a business, patrons are a much more volatile variable one cannot determine without multiple, regular visits. Anyway, here is how silver lake stacks up: 1. Ground covering: basically entirely dirt (2 stars) 2. Size: the large dog area is HUGE (5stars) 3. Drinking area: cement-covered area w dog bowls and a tap. Nothing special but also not covered in mold or rust. Meet minimal requirements. (3stars) 4. Irrigation: as the whole park is on a hill, the drinking area doesn't really pool up but there are sometimes damp wet trails from where the water runs. I guess this is natural Irrigation. So adequate. (3stars) 5. Amenities for humans: there are multiple benches throughout and trees here and there offer shade as well as a few canopies. There is a double gate too. When i went, the poop bag dispensers were empty but there are many trash cans along the perimeter (5stars) Overall (not a strict mathematic average) I would give the place 3 stars for being acceptable. I personally don't go here often cause of all the dirt but if you're fine with that, then it's a decent park. Nothing special but the size may make up for that if your dog likes to run and get filthy. read more

It was a beautiful day to take my furry one to a new park so we ventured out and found this park. Usually we stick to Clover Park but there's no dog park. One of the best things about LA is the vastness of parks available for not just us but also our furry loved ones! Parking was a bit tricky but you can park along the main road and just walk up the street. There's a small dog and large dog section. As with any dog park, you definitely have a few dog owners who aren't the most responsible when it comes to watching their dogs and picking up after then, but overall it was a nice park. This is my favorite dog park! The area is large so dogs can have tons of space to get their zoomies out. There is a water fountain station and dog bowls. Also the park is very clean. I love how they have a section of large dogs only, and the next gated area over is for smaller dogs. Parking is street parking. Never had trouble finding parking during the evenings around 5-8pm. Always loved this park. Prior to becoming a dog daddy, I always clung to the outer fence looking in on all the pups. I used to run the reservoir but now can run around w my pup inside! Looks like the larger dog section gets all the love. It is significantly larger than the small doggo side. Both sides have plenty of room for the little ones to stretch their legs. Both sides have bench seating and covered picnic tables. It is rather dusty compared to other dog parks I've been to - no turf. Downside to the small doggo side is that it's sloped down the hill from the larger side and all the water, urine, etc gets flushed down the hill towards the small dog side, thus leaving it muddy and smelling like sewage. Dog owners here are very courteous and aware of everything going on. Never feel like my dog is in a bad spot here. read more

A good all-around dog park. It's not the biggest park, there aren't poop bags, and it's not super lush/green, nor is there designated parking buuuuuut.... It's fairly large, and there is a separate section for small dogs, like most dog parks. The best thing about this is probably the location (Silver Lake, and adjacent to a regular park for humans as well as a reservoir that people like to walk around), and that there are usually a lot of dogs there, which provide stimulation and ample opportunities for dog-to-dog socialization and the random zoomies/laps. The dogs and their respective owners are typically well-behaved, and I haven't seen a lot of fights or rowdy dogs that don't get intervened with timely. Came here this weekend and took our little terrier. The big dog side has a pretty big amount of room for the dogs to run around. However for the smaller dogs that side does not have alot of space. They do have drinking fountains for the dogs which is good. Wish this spot had grass instead of dirt, there is no grass at this dog part so it gets very dusty and dirty. Also it's not the easiest place to find parking however if your are taking a long walk around the reservoir it's an ok place to drop by with your fur buddy. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this dog park for over a year from friends and finally last week I happend to be in the vicinity of it with my pup, so we decided to check it out and see what the fuss was all about. Umm, I'm not sure what my friends were smoking when they came to the park that had them giving such glowing reviews, but I was extremely unimpressed with the park. Given the fancy, posh area it is located in, I expected it to be way more than it was...or maybe my pup and I are just spoiled at our home park in the valley - the Sepulveda Off-Leash Dog Park. There is absolutely zero parking close by for one thing, and that's a deal breaker right there for me. The park was primarily dirt and the minimal grass they had was yellow and dead. I inhaled so much dust while I was there I was coughing up dirt when I got home. There was graffiti on the tables and chairs, trash scattered all over even though there was garbage cans around the park. Within 5 mins of being there a large dog attempted to bite my Chiweenie who was already timid and scared being there in the first place. The owners of the larger dog offered no apologies and their dog continued to harass other dogs. That park is way too small to allow dogs of all sizes to roam off their leashes and it was packed when we were there. Then a man walks by the park screaming that no one needed to be wearing a mask because, "we were all going to die anyway" and that he was "going to destroy LA". People in the park began yelling obscenities at the man and provoking him which was uncomfortable and unnecessary. Overall. this park was a dud and not appealing at all. It was just trashy, unwelcoming and I will not return there in the future. I highly recommend you do NOT bring your dog here and take a drive to the valley if you can and check out a real dog park - The Sepulveda Off-Leash Dog Park on Victory and White Oak. read more

My favorite dog park hands down! There's a small and big dog area. I have a 4 month old medium sized dog so he does best in the small dog area. Everyone here is extremely responsible with their dogs, so their dogs are well-trained. If their dog misbehaves or shows aggression, they check it immediately. My Boogie has learned to socialize and read social cues. If a dog snaps at him, he learns to keep his distance (although sometimes he'll egg them on since he wants to be loved by everyone and every dog). The area is mainly dirt so expect your pup to get a little dirty. There is a drinking area for the dogs, plenty of chairs and benches to sit on, and shaded areas. When it gets cold, bundle up because the benches are made of concrete so they can be very cold. I see lots of regulars here which my Boogie boy recognizes (both human and dog). Can't speak much on the large dog area. We never enter there anymore since Boogie cried/yelped after a dog went after him and spooked him, making all the other dogs come up to him and freak him out even more. It was traumatizing for both Boogie and I. Another great part of this area is everyone is pretty darn nice + you can walk around the park if you don't feel like using the dog park. Plenty of parking in the neighborhoods but make sure to read the signs so you don't get a ticket! read more

I used to come to this park before the pandemic and it was alright, small chill friendly dogs, came back again today and damn this place looks dirtier, some of the dirt looks muddy. I have Senior dog and I understand some dogs like to play around but if they aren't trained they shouldn't bring them to the park, this dog wouldn't stop following my senior dog and humping her, the lady said he was neutered but to my knowledge dogs who are neutered have the testicles removed unless there's a new way of neutered the dogs which I haven't heard? This dog didn't look neutered and his little weenie was out trying to jump on my dog and I had to grab her he almost did something to my dog, I ended up leaving because I didn't feel comfortable, the whole place looks dirty even the side walks... I have been here a handful of times since I live about 5-10 minutes away. I have only been to the small dog side, and it was my first dog park experience, so I thought it wasn't too bad. However, after visiting other dog parks that are much better maintained and revisiting this park, I don't think I'll be going back. #1 hygiene: this place is so filthy. i personally don't mind the dirt TOO much bc my dog hops into the bath when we get home and demands that i wash his royal paws and tush, but i still get grossed out by the little corner areas at the park full of poop and the overgrown weedy swampy side. i do not let my dog wander over to that side. #2 atmosphere: i don't know whattt it is about this park, but a lot of people with aggressive dogs gravitate towards this place. i have NEVER had any dog bullying incidents at WeHo, but for some reason, there is always at least one dog that persistently plays roughly with my dog here. at WeHo, dog owners are always watching their dogs and apologizing/intervening if their dog is being a nuisance...at this place, the other owners just watch as their dog keeps biting my dog and making my dog yelp and run. then once i throw a look of discomfort and carry my dog for 5 minutes do they come and say humorously that their dog just likes to play rough. it's pretty much like wtf if you know the problem, then fix its behavior. that's your job as its owner. overall, i understand that if my dog does not fit in with the crowd that frequents this place, then i should just not go, which is what i recommend to others. you can try it out yourself, but if your sweetheart of a dog gets bullied here, it's not just your problem :) come to WeHo! read more

Beware of the owner of a dog named Otis. I've been coming to this dog park ever since my Rottie pup was 4 months old. He's never had any issues with fights and I've always trusted him to roam the grounds. I keep an eye out for other aggressive dogs and he's always responsive and quick to leave or avoid any situation. Immediately as we walked in this morning, Otis began growling and snapped at my pup (who's no more than 10 months). Overall we stayed away from them and had no problems with any of the other dogs at the park. The owner even mentioned that Otis had a "rowdy" play style, which really translates to untrained. Otis picked fights with so many dogs at the park that day and eventually picked one with my pup too. She claimed the issue lied with the fact that my dog is not yet neutered. He is a puppy, who isn't full grown - the vet even recommends against the neuter as the hormones are important for his growth. The exile and shame of non-neutered dogs is in and of itself another issue within the dog community. I'm pretty tired of dog owners who don't have control over their overly aggressive dogs and push the blame on others. Do better and train your dog. They have two separate sections - lack of signage but from what we could tell one park for small dogs and one for big ones. It's a huge space. Lots of seating options. It's pretty sandy and not much grass so your dog could get pretty coated. There is shade! It's next to a busy street if that's a problem or trigger for your dog. It's also next to a park if you have children but keep in mind that dogs are not allowed into the separate children's park. Parking is tricky. He looks for gophers in the gopher holes, and then runs a couple laps dodging the poop and weird sewage water in the middle of the small dog area that makes no sense why it's there, wet, in a drought. eventually, when I've played enough chess on my phone we leave, and he's filthy. But you know what, he also had a blast. That's why we keep coming back. Not keen on the morning community in the big dog section though. some weird cliquey community of hipsters that seem to be more territorial than their dogs. read more

I have a puppy and some Karen's hound who she told me was a year old pound rescue. That dog hardassed my dog and I had to shield that fckr from my puppy for a whole 2 minutes before she came and said something to her dog. She didn't even apologize. I told her my dog is a puppy and she needs to get her dog under control when they are dog fighting in the middle of the park. Most people ask if your dog is friendly before bringing their own in which I highly appreciate seeing as my dog doesn't get along with every dog he meets. Dog fights do happen occasionally (if you want to avoid this, don't bring them period) but owners are quick to step in and break things up.
