This is my golf club because it out-shines all others in the mountains, around the state and around the country for overall value, really nice staff (all of them), the scenery, great course conditions, the Eagle River, Stone Creek, tall pines, colorful aspens, GPS Carts, good food, terrific driving range, separate chipping and putting greens and the fantastic views from so many elevated tees. It's just great fun to entertain friends and family every time. Don't be fooled, this is no easy, dull, boring "Links" course, it's a challenge and that's part of the beauty and character of the course. Before or after your round, try the food and grab a beer at their Whiskey Hill Golf Grill while taking in sporting events on a half dozen HDTV's. It's really good. Breakfast burritos and Bloody Mary's to go in the morning are extra bonuses for us on the run. read more

Amazingly beautiful (and challenging) golf course. Huge elevation differences between tee boxes and greens, making for some of the most incredible views ever seen on a golf course. I would have given this 5 full stars if not for the exorbitant prices. This is the highest green fee I have ever paid, but EVGC is NOT lacking in clientele. We played to a completely full tee time schedule late on a Thursday afternoon. Well worth a try should you enjoy golfing the best locations! read more

Made a mid morning tee time online which saved me around 25%. During August it's peak season so golf in Colorado is pricy. We teed off early by half an hour and we didn't have to play with another twosome which was great. The course itself was beautiful. There were many elevation changes, the greens and fairways were in great shape and there were natural steams that ran thru parts of the course. There's a snack bar at the turn that serves a great sausage sammie too. I'm glad we teed off early due to the weather changed in the afternoon and it rained hard on the 17th hole and missed the eightieth hole. The entire staff here was friendly and accomadating so if you're in the area, I would highly recommend playing this course which is a great value for the quality of play received. read more

I've enjoyed this club in the past, only complaint being the many unleashed dogs. I had a terrible experience recently though. I suspect it has come under new management. My golf cart battery died on the 4th hole. Called the clubhouse multiple times, they would pick up but wouldn't give ETA on getting new cart. After an hour of waiting, I gave up and walked back. When I arrived back at the clubhouse, the older gentleman working said no refund for the round. He gave a rain check- and pro-rated it because I got to play 4 holes! The man said he wasn't aware that a cart had died, and refused to make eye contact, it was strange. Talked to the employees outside, they said they weren't aware of any carts being dead. So despite multiple calls, appears they just ignored me. We all have bad days but when a business screws up this bad I expect my money back without protest. Stay far far away- plenty of other honestly run golf clubs in the Valley! read more

Fun golf course. Some great holes. Pro shop, dining, and practice facility is run like a small town muni. You can only hit off crummy mats with old found balls dispensed by a ball machine. Yuk! read more

If you like 5-6 hour rounds then this is the spot. 4 holes in we were at 1 hour 5 minutes. Waiting on every tee box for 10 minutes and every other shot even more. Get a ranger out here! Would be cool to see the rest of the course but that is nearly impossible if your tee time is 2:30 on. read more

Wow. Just freakin' wow. This is unbelievable. This is one of the cheapest of the 20+ courses currently in the Vail valley, and it's absolutely breathtaking. Peak Season, Peak Tee Time is still only $98 including a mandatory riding cart. You start the round by bombing your tee shot off a massively elevated tee box next to the clubhouse onto an expansive fairway. I can't say it enough, this place is beautiful. There are lakes, rivers, streams, forests, wildlife, views, etc., etc., etc. The great thing is, it's not terribly expensive and they seem to tolerate higher handicap golfers. A few holes are RIGHT next to major roadways. If you are unsure of your game, it would be a REALLY good idea to hit a short iron off the tee or even just walk up and place your shot in the fairway. Unless of course, you're fond of smashing windshields on cars traveling on the freeway at 70 mph. The course winds its way all through the mountainous terrain finishing on a 200-foot elevated tee box on the 18th where I'm proud to say I hit my first 300+ yard drive in my life. (Mind you, between the elevated tee box and the thin air at altitude the same drive in San Francisco would not have made it to the 260-yard mark.) There are great services on the course including a complete snack shack at the 11th tee with a full menu and magical cart girls who somehow cover the entire course every 90 minutes. One bit of advice: STAY IN THE FAIRWAY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!! This course rates a fairly simple 70.6/127 from the tips. HOWEVER, if you hit it even 2 inches off the fairway it becomes a 98.5/Infinity. I swear I lost two dozen balls, but found just as many. Take it easy, back off the bomber shots and keep it in the short stuff. I'm not the greatest of golfers (15.6 index) but I ended up shooting a 112, including 18 penalty strokes for lost balls. If you have a significant other who does not golf, bring them anyway and let them drive the cart. They have a riding-only fare, and this is such a beautiful place, it's an enjoyable outing even if only one of you golfs. BTW, kudos to an incredibly helpful and friendly staff. They don't have that fake "Yes, sir" country club attitude, (which I'm not knocking, by the way) but a genuine interest in how you're doing and whether you're having a good time. The bad news is, I heard a rumor they may close the course and develop it. That would be a crime. read more

I was playing a number of courses in the Valley to evaluate where to pick for our annual 3 day charity tournament. This place vetoed themselves pretty decisively. Although the young staff on the range and bag drop-off were wonderful, the pro shop pretty well wrecked the experience. I've honestly never been treated so poorly on a course before. For starters, my wife went in before our round because she wanted to try some new softer balls for her slower swing speed. Guy in pro shop talked over the woman pro, who could have probably have suggested something appropriate, and he talked her into a tour balls. SMH, but off we go. Everybody drives straight down the middle, but the two folks assigned with us were a bit deliberate. Cart says after a few holes "you're three minutes behind the pace" with a warning. Really? It's slow, there is no one in sight behind us, but OK, I hustle them along a little. My wife and I are both pretty serious league players and know the importance of ready golf. Standard pace under four hours, no problem. We get to the snack shack on 11, where I pick up the burger I'd ordered in advance. Get halfway down hole and discover they'd screwed up the order, so I did a quick circle back and got it corrected. Still no group behind us, but now there's a moose in the bunker, which slows things up a bit with gawking. I get it, pretty special, should be a high point of the day. We get to the next tee, tee off, and afterward it squawks that we are now 11 minutes behind. This is obnoxious, really obnoxious. Guess I shouldn't have tried to get my correct order. We also get a message saying "if you receive another warning, you MAY be asked to move up a hole." OK, I'm still hustling folks along, so in good spirits I pocket my ball and say "I'll pick up so we can make their GPS happy," which has now switched back to three minutes behind, probably because I kicked everyone along. While the display is still saying we MAY be required to move forward if we are warned AGAIN, the first player's assistant we've seen all day pulls up next to us and says the pro shop says we are 15 minutes behind and must pick up. I point out that he can look at our GPS display which shows that is incorrect and also that we are supposed to receive another alert before his request is even a possibility and the answer is "the pro shop says you're 15 minutes behind." This is nonsense, plain and simple, somebody with delusions of grandeur ordering this guy to come tell us this. He isn't friendly, isn't interested in the fact I've already picked up, isn't interested in the fact that I've been pushing the group along (with two people we don't know that I have to politely try to keep moving quickly), isn't interested that no one has waited on us all day and the group behind us is still out of sight and is just generally rude. Fun course that could have made for a fun day except for truly crappy customer service. They not only won't get our tournament, I won't be back, despite having enjoyed it many times over the years. The course itself is at least four stars, and I hate giving it such a low rating, but they managed to ruin a beautiful day. read more

This is honestly one of the best public golf courses in Colorado. The staff at the course is exceptional. The condition of the course is fabulous considering it's a public, mountain course. The scenery is gorgeous. That being said, do not order lunch or food at the course. Truly, it was the worst food any of us ever had. Fish tacos consisted of deep fried frozen fish on a tortilla. That's it. No pico, lettuce, anything. The other three items ordered were equally bad if not worse. It was hard to believe. Do play the course, but bring your own snacks and then head elsewhere for the apres golf. read more

Love it, Love it! Played Eagle Vail with a co-work/friend of mine in late May and the course was in perfect shape. They had just opened 16, 17 and 18, which in my opinion are the best holes on the course. Our day started out rough with a harsh rain storm hitting us dead in the face on #1, however after three holes the rains let up for a great day. If you're a 10 plus handicap, bring lots of balls. I lost two sleeves this round, but ended the day with a 96 so I wasn't too far off for an 18 handicapper. The if you tend to slice or pull to one side or the other too often you may want to take it easy as some of the holes run parallel to very busy roads. We decided to take it easy on these holes...play a bit conservative and catch the beverage cart, which we saw about every hour. Friendly staff and and the cart was always loaded with your choice of drink or snack. TIP: Try the cookies at the snack shack just before the tee at hole #11. All in all a great day, a beautiful course and be sure to get on their email list. They normally send coupons and special updates every week or so and be sure to try and sneak out for a mid-week round if possible. The rates for this gorgeous course won't last long. read more

Much better than I expected. After reading about the course & the morons that worked there, I was pleasantly surprised with the hospitality of the employees, their willingness to help with my rental clubs, ride to the driving range & educating us on the course. While definitely not a TPC course, for a public course that weaves through a residential area, it really was a challenging layout with some interesting holes. Bring extra balls, as there are several blind shots that include water. If you want an enjoyable day of golf and not spend tons of cash, this can be a rewarding experience. read more

I really like this course. We play it every year during our time up here over the 4th of July weekend. It is less expensive after 3:30 for twilight rates. They have done some improvements to the course to facilitate pace of play. Unfortunately they are taking out a par 3 hole that I really like that runs along the Eagle river. For the price, the beauty and the thrill of the course it really is the best value in the valley. read more

Just got done playing today with my wife and two friends and have never been this frustrated with a golf courses management. We were just getting off the 13th green (I think) and were told to please skip a hole because we were holding up the group behind us. We look back from the par 5 green we were exiting and the group behind us wasn't on even on the tee box. In fact, we were so far ahead of the group behind that it was actually the first time we had even seen them since the first hole. It just felt like we got slapped in the face for a nonexistent issue. One of my top 10 courses to play in my home town. I have played this course more times than anywhere else because it is sort of my back yard. I do play a lot of other courses around the state and I can say that EV always reminds me how hard and unforgiving this course can be. The long fairways are a big plus when playing in the Rockies, not all high mountain courses hit this long. Getting the ball straight and down the course is what made me love the game of golf and it all started right here. The shorter holes play well to. I enjoy the holes that the putting greens are not visable, you get their by hitting around the corner until you are close enough to chip for the green. The only reason I give EV a 4 star rating instead of a 5 star is the pace of play. I'v learned to not even play their the middle of summer, simply put to busy and the pace of play becomes painfully slow. EV , when it is not busy is a rather long course and you can expect a golf round to take 3+ hours. When it busy, I have to stopped playing because of the slow pace and left the course without finishing . I do feel that if EV had more course marshals things would improve, greatly. Most of my rounds seem to be in the afternoon and things seem slow down around that time. Overall the greens are in better shape than the down valley courses, the high mountain environment makes for lusher greens, soft grass to chip from and fresh air. Would recommend to everyone but a novice might have a lot of trouble and slow things down. The driving range is also a plus. Not a big fan of hitting from pads but using a driver seems to work well and a great place to practice. read more

Traveling in town for a conference and was fortunate to play here three times over my trip. All three proved to be a good example of great service, beautiful conditions and a fair price. I highly recommend this course when in the area and hope to go back soon. The course plays fair, but is very tight and greens can be hard to stick with a very thick layer of grass that doesn't help high approaches. But then again you don't care, you're going for the scenery and cold beers. Enjoy! Bonus: the chipping and putting practice area is excellent and would be a great place to spend a couple hours working on your game. read more

I was in Vail on a recent vacation and played here at the last minute. This is a really nice course at a really good rate for the area. The course was in excellent shape. The faiways and greens were well maintained, rolled true, and had no brown or discolored grass. The back nine was very scenic as it wound up into the mountains and offered a great change of elevated tees and use of the creeks and water features around the greens. The pace of play was great at 4.5 hours and we never had to wait at any hole. I would defintely play this course again next time I am in the Vail area. read more

Had the opportunity to play a handful of courses in the Vail Valley, and Eagle Vail was one of the best. Expect to play a long round, on a course with beautiful views (and a ton of penalty strokes for the taking). The staff is great, not stuffy like other experiences. If you're looking for the most "local" feel , pair up with a season pass holder, if possible, they will act as your personal caddy.! Fantastic experience, only reason it doesn't get a 5-star-rating is because of the pace of play.
