Simple pub atmosphere. Friendly staff. I ordered the cup of clam chowder to start - rich, creamy and full of big chunks of potatoes and clams. I then ordered the pepperloin sandwich at the recommendation of our server. I was NOT disappointed! Super soft bun, generous portions of meat and the seasoning and sauces finished it off. Highly recommend if you come for a sandwich! Great place for lunch. Next time I am back in Bethalto we will be sure to stop in. read more

Geno's first opened in 1942. Do the math, that means they have been serving the Bethalto area and beyond for 83 years. That is some impressive longevity for a restaurant. My cousins Aunt (from her other side of the family) turned me on to Geno's. She is older then Geno's and sings the praises of the Wednesday special. On Wednesday, they offer what I'd call a, Blue Plate Special. It's a healthy sized serving of Meatloaf, a side of Mashed Potatoes with Brown Gravy and daily vegetable. The day I went, I enjoyed Green Beans. It was comfort food at its best. True down-home cooking. I had also heard from other Onion Ring addicts, that the ones at Geno's were pretty impressive. When dining alone, an order of Rings and an entree can be too much food. However, to my surprise Geno's allows you to pay a minimal up-charge for a side of Onion Rings. In my opinion that is genius. I was able to enjoy my juicy cheeseburger and instead of a side of fries, I got to experience their famous house made onion rings. They were large rings, well breaded and crispy. They also paired perfectly with the burger. My next visit will be to try their chicken wings. I've heard they are the best in Madison County. Service has been nice and friendly. The type of service you'd expect at an old school family ran restaurant. Very comforting and welcoming. read more

Went for dinner and we were in and out in less than an hour. The spin dip and pita chips were delicious. The baked potato was great and the chicken strips weren't bad. The Mac seemed like it came from a frozen tv dinner. The burger was okay but no sauce so a little on the dry side. Would go back to try other options on the menu. read more

My sister-in-law asked us to go here with them. She had heard about this place and wanted to try it. We love to eat out, so we went along for the ride! First of all, this place is old. It's been here since 1942. To be honest, the place could use a facelift. The interior is a bit rough. However, the service is excellent! Our server took good care of us. I guess they are famous for their steaks, Stromboli and salads. Three of us had the Caesar and it was fantastic! The lettuce was crisp and fresh and it came with lots of croutons! The fourth member of our group had the chef salad. It was huge and he said it was great! Three of us had the Pepperloin which is a steak and everyone said it was tender and very flavorful. I had the fried chicken and it was crispy and crunchy with a great flavor and well done like I like it. It was very busy on a Wednesday night and that tells you how good the food is! Friends took me here, and it was a pleasant place to hang out with friends. I enjoy a good pizza burger, but some places skimp on the cheese and sauce. Not here! My sandwich was brimming with gooey mozzarella and plenty of pizza sauce. The server was friendly and made sure we had plenty of drinks. First and last time here. Trying places out in the area. Went in at 2 pm one customer but that's ok we wanted to try out new places. We were greeted promptly and nice and given a menu. Menu looked pretty good. But after a few minutes the bartender disappeared and a customer came in and sat himself. We all sat there for a good ten minutes and no bartender or waitress to be seen. I've been here many times and always enjoy it! I took Steven here once and he hated the chicken strips. He said I got his expectations up because I rave about the chicken strips. I do love them! I get them every single time! I've also had the fettuccine, the spaghetti. All are great. I especially enjoy their French fries and they have a fabulous ranch dressing! Steven said the bathrooms are wonderfully clean. This time I brought Mama Candy and Carol and they enjoyed their meal as well. The service is always kind and very quick. I recommend!! read more

Was there today, food was good, service was good however, the server named Sammy charged me credit card price on my gift card. She knows exactly what she is doing because she previously charged us credit card fees when we paid with cash.I have my first receipt with beginning balance and today's receipt. I keep all receipts until I use up the balance on the gift card. I have a feeling that she thinks elderly people are dumb. I want my money back. Watch your tickets carefully. read more

I've been coming here for 20 years. Yes. 20 years. Probably closer to 25-26, but I don't want to admit I'm that old. Growing up we'd come here about once a week. I fell In love with their salad dressing and Stromboli as a kid. When we were in town after moving again, I figured why not relive the old times. I had to get the salad and it was just as delicious as I remember. The house dressing is like an Italian but lighter, and sweet. So good. Great with the free crackers they give. I got toasted rav which is an IL thing I guess. So hard to find toasted rav with meat in any other part of the world. 9/10. I missed them. My only reservation from 10/10 would be that they were so greasy. I placed them on a stack of napkins to help absorb some of the grease before eating. My husband is from central IL where horseshoes are a staple. When he saw it on the menu he had to try. He wanted the white cheese but they had already ran out for the day. He had the yellow cheese and from the second I saw it I knew he wouldn't like it. I have to hand it to Genos for trying to add an IL staple item to their menu but I think changing the cheese to white or a different type of yellow would be better! Also- traditional places offer a variety of meats to choose from and sauces. He had to special request chicken with buffalo sauce. Thankfully we had a great server who was able to do the request. He said if the cheese was different it would have been great, otherwise 2/10 stars. The fries were chunky and delicious. The buffalo chicken was good! read more

This once proud restaurant is a shadow of its former self. We ate here this evening and the restaurant was nearly empty. One other booth had someone in the dining room. There were two servers and two bus boys. 1. Our order took 20 minutes to arrive at the table. 2. Our order was wrong. 3. We were over charged. 4. I ordered water and it wasn't refilled. It's a shame that this restaurant which was once the best place to eat in town has fallen so far. No wonder the new restaurant on prairie street is packed and this one is empty. read more

This place was amazing. We went in last night with around 30 people. Not only were they accommodating, the food was all served hot, was excellent, very reasonably priced, and the service...let's talk about how amazing all of the servers were. Thank you for feeding our team. The entire place couldn't have been nicer. We will be back on our next trip through. My husband and I went to Geno's this past week for dinner. We have been there many times and it never disappoints. They have a bar side for seating but we prefer the part that is just a dining area. This time, my husband had the open face roast beef special with mashed potatoes, green beans, and a salad. Though I normally get a dinner, I was hungry for a cheeseburger and got sour cream and cheddar tots with it plus a bowl of vegetable beef soup. Everything tasted great as always. Service was friendly and efficient as usual. If you've never tried it, they have daily lunch and dinner specials, great soups, and a full menu that includes fried chicken, steaks, pasta, pizza, etc. It's so awesome to have locally owned restaurants like Geno's-- definitely recommend! read more

This is a restaurant we frequently dine with. This evening we tried a pizza which was cooked to perfection, topped well and had a wonderful flavor. Interesting enough the pizza was not cut when delivered to the table and the crust was very doughy. For that reason on this visit I rate them a 4 star. Well, I hadn't had their food in awhile because there are a lot more restaurants around Bethalto and Geno's is no longer the only game in town. Nothing has been updated. Their Spaghetti sauce tastes like minestrone soup poured over noodles, the lettuce was warm on their salad, the crackers that come in a basket (in a wrapper) were stale, and my kids wouldn't eat them. Their ranch that comes with their wings, chicken, & salad is clearly straight out of bottle from Sam's Club or the like. Add that to a 1hr wait for food and I doubt I'll come back for awhile. Absolutely horrible, ordered carry out order and went to pick up 30 minutes later, they had obviously forgotten about my order and I received no sort of apology while I stood there for 30 minutes more listening to the owner cuss out 3 workers in the back instead of check one time on my order. This place has the absolute best tasting steak I have ever had! I loved their peppercorn steak it's delicious, cooked perfect and served hot. My wife's burger was not up to standards though. The bun was stale and the flavor of the beef was not close to average which I found highly disappointing. Service I would call average. It was clean inside from what I could tell. I'm a fan of the grilled chicken salad with geno's140 creamy house Italian. I've always dined in until today. Today, I ordered the same grilled chicken salad I've eaten for years with geno's creamy house Italian as a carry out. HUGE disappointment. The portion is the size of a side salad. We ordered three salads $30 after tax. All the salads were in the same container. I received $12 worth a food based on the size supplied but charged the full portion price. When I called to speak to someone regarding the error they were dismissive and said they didn't have containers that matched the portion served when you dined in and stated they have plenty of business and they aren't concerned. Don't order carry out. If you are going to order geno's 140. Eat in. Lesson learned. I am surprised at the response I got from management though. They stated all their carry out items are the same price but smaller portions due to containers they stock. Seems like a bad business decision to me and left a bad taste in my mouth. read more
