I ordered the Earl's Cheesesteak and it was absolutely delicious. Hands down one of the better cheesesteaks I've had on island. The flavors were on point, perfectly balanced, and seriously satisfying. Even with a solid crowd when I came in, they moved at a great pace and had my order out pretty quickly, which I definitely appreciated. The shop itself is clean, well kept, and welcoming. You can tell they take pride in their establishment. Now here's my one (very passionate) request: as a sandwich spot, I would LOVE to see a true NYC bodega style chopped cheese added to the menu. Ever since my trip to New York City, I've been reminiscing about those chopped cheese sandwiches nonstop. There's just something different about them. It honestly surprises me that on the island we can find cheesesteaks everywhere, but not a single place offering a legit chopped cheese! If you guys ever decide to add a proper chopped cheese to the lineup, I promise I'd be a weekly regular without hesitation. I know I'm not the only one who would appreciate it! Really tasty and hearty sandwiches that were packed with a lot of filling. I got the turkey club which was really good and I love the amount of lettuce they add for a crunch. The chipotle chicken was also really good a bit on the heavier side but a lot of chicken included. I did think the sandwich was going to be bigger for the price of almost $20 a sandwich. Let's start with the bad, i guess. Parking here stinks. You can park and pay at Salt or try and find street parking (good luck with that). Ok. thats all the negative I can think of. EARL sells "East Coast subs and burgers"....as someone from the East Coast...umm...ok? I would never have called these East Coast subs as I think of fresh subs from bodegas loaded with tons of fresh veggies. And yet, the sandwiches here are still pretty darn tasty. The interior is small but always clean. There's always a daily special written down on the chalkboard in front of the counter. They make your sandwiches fresh so expect a little bit of a wait. Even with no real line it can take a couple minutes to get your order. I normally get the Cubano Italiano. (Cubanos are one of my favorite sandwiches and for some reason they just dont exist out here.) While this one is far from a traditional cubano, it is absolutely delicious. (Mortadella, ham, spanish chorizo, genoa salami, swiss cheese, sweet and cherry peppers, and mustard & mayo). They always come out hot and the bread is always toasted to perfection. I also tried their Spicy Caprese (+fried Chicken) which was a daily special last week. It was also really tasty. The chicken was super crisp, flavorful and juicy. The only thing was the spice came from the oil used and it wasn't spicy enough for me and was just a little too oily for my liking. Still finished the whole thing in record time tho. Haha. Waffle fries are good too, but nothing super exciting. Just a good, decent set of fries. They also sell UTZ potato chips which was a nice East Coast surprise for me to see out here. Lots of indoor seating and a single stall bathroom available! This spot is on the corner and has lots of sandwich options which can be great on a hot day when you need some AC. I ordered the turkey with pesto and added avocado. The bread was so yummy but it was definitely a more narrow sandwich. I also tried the chicken sandwich which was good but a smaller portion. The classic cheesesteak was better. It was moist, had more cheese and was more flavored. The Earl's cheesesteak was dry and we could hardly taste the cheese. They both came in a crisp and toasted baguette. They also had my fave Orange Bang as a fountain drink. You don't see those everyday. We ordered the house drink sweet tea $5.50. It was different. Great sandwiches although parking in the area can be tricky, the parking lot across the street is monitored. Wife and I ordered two sandwiches, a Cubano and a Hot Honey Old Bay Fried Chicken. I preferred the Cubano, the chorizo is a nice touch but all the hallmarks are there (mortadella and the peppers were my fave). Solid 8.5/10. The fried chicken sandwich was good, but we mainly got it to try the Old Bay seasoning. Wasn't too hot, 8/10 Earl Fries were good, the pickles were a nice touch although it did make certain spots on the fries a little soft due to liquid (we brought the food home). 8.0 Spicy Pickles were the weakest link for me, and I misread--I thought it was fried pickles. 6.5/10, although I can see them adding to certain sandwiches as a topping. Right in the heart of this gentrified neighborhood we call Kakaako (ka-ka-ah-ko) is EARL, an adorable little sandwich shop that has the feel of an old school burger joint with all the vibrant colors but with a touch of modern feel. It kind of gives me 90s saved by the bell vibes. Once inside you can order up front with the cashier or off to the side you can use an iPad if you feeling antisocial. When I walked in the cashier was a nice young lady who smiled and politely took my order. Nothing extravagant or above and beyond customer service but just good ol friendly hospitality. I ordered a pastrami burger and waffle fries to use up the rest of my Christmas gift cards. This was probably my 3rd visit to this establishment. I came there day prior with the intention of ordering the pastrami burger but in sheer travesty they were out of burger patties!!! Since I'm a kind, forgiving, handsome young man, I made the return journey back just to try this burger. I arrived shortly after the 11 o'clock hour to find only a few people inside. No line to order. I recommend coming around this time or earlier as EARLY is a popular guy who has many lunchtime visitors. The wait for your food can take almost an hour or months if you go too late (jk). I came early this time but still waited about 20 minutes. After getting my food I began the trek back to my office. In keeping with American custom and tradition, I ate a fry out of the bag. It had a light crisp on the outside and soft interior. It wasn't really hot so likely the fries sat. The fries look fresh and not flash frozen or from a bag so that's a plus. Overall fries were 3 out of 5. Could've been higher if fries were hot. Finally I reached my destination and got to try the star of the show. The pastrami burger looked tasty with all the fresh ingredients bursting out of the bun. The bun was soft, the burger patty was slightly juicy and not dry, and the pastrami added this nice little touch. Neither the burger or pastrami over powered the other which was great as it had a nice balance of flavors. Probably my favorite item so far at EARL. Pastrami Burger 4 out of 5. Honest Opinion: while EARL was a very pleasant experience and had tasty food, I'm not sure if the price justifies me returning anytime soon. For almost $20 I felt like something was lacking. Likely it was price to portion ratio. Though it taste much better than a subway I can't see how the price / taste would make me go to EARL instead of a much cheaper subway sandwich that's much more filling. We can't blame that on the fine people EARL as prices are high everywhere. Please note I work in the area and am part of the downtown lunchtime crowd so $20 every weekday on lunch is not feasible for me. That's why I usually bring a bag lunch. Recommendations: Give a EARL a try. The three times of gone to EARL I've never had a bad meal or experience. If you're someone who can spend $20 a day on lunch then this is definitely a good spot for you. If you're not then give it a try and maybe you have a place you can go to once and awhile when you want a fresh sandwich. My boyfriend recently started working at a barbershop nearby and we have gone to get food here a few times now. Everything we have tried is really good! I love their chicken sandwiches! Like it was a problem at one point.. My personal favorite is the Hot Honey Old Bay and of course you have to get their crispy waffle fries. On another occasion I tried the Italian 12". There is street parking around or parking in the SALT or H-Mart structures if you want to check out those locations too. The sandwich place itself is a decent size with a few tables and a counter on the other side of the tables. There is a menu above the counter with the sandwich options. There are chicken sandwiches, vegetarian ones, and other options. The person working was kind and patient as we decided on which sandwiches to get. We ended up ordering the caprese and chipotle chicken cheesesteak. The sandwiches were a bit pricey with both ranging about $15-17. It took a bit for the sandwiches to come out but they were a pretty good size. There was a good amount of meat in the cheesesteak and the flavors were balanced. The meat, cheese, and peppers melded well. The caprese was good as well with a lot of lettuce. We did not finish our sandwiches and ended up taking about half of each back home. Went to Earl's today. Of course it's during the ONE TIME they don't have any special sandwiches going on. I got a Reuben and waffle fries. Idk if they make their pastrami in house or what but it's the softest pastrami I've ever had, literally melts in your mouth. Years ago, this guy I had a major crush on introduced me to a Po Boy sandwich. It was good but I think I liked it because he was so darn cute. I'm gonna twist things up and instead of posting more positive pastrami reviews, I'm gonna tell you about the "Rueben Not On Rye" and the "Turkey Club". This was a food app delivery order. First, The "Rueben Not On Rye". As a self proclaimed expert on Rueben Sandwiches, I knew I had to try this as soon as I spotted it on their menu. A true Rueben Sandwich is Rye Bread, Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, Thousand Island, Swiss Cheese and a hint of Stone Ground Mustard. This wasn't Corned Beef (or if it was, it was on the dry side) I'm not a meat expert. I'm leaning more towards it being a Pastrami Rueben. Aside from no Rye Bread and Not Corned Beef, it had the 4 other staple ingredients. I'll forgive the choice of meat. The Sauerkraut was sour (yum), the Stone Ground Mustard had that horseradish bite to it and the Thousand Island was on point. The Swiss Cheese was almost non-existent. Come to think of it, was there even any Swiss Cheese on it? Half way through, I realized that I didn't really miss the Rye Bread. The taste was consistent with a traditional Rueben. The portion was large. I had to force myself to finish half the sandwich. Overall, 3.75 stars. On to the Turkey Club. This was my Daughter's choice. I have to say, they were definitely heavy handed on the Turkey meat. My Daughter gave two of the slices of Bacon to Edgar, our cat ‍. She added a bit of mustard and a smidge of cream cheese (Mean Machete's spoiled her from ever eating a sandwich without it) she is a vey picky eater, yet had a big smile on her face after the fact. She said the Oil and Vinegar was a nice touch and she didn't complain about the Mayonnaise! The Bacon was crispy not floppy. Overall, she gave it 4 stars. TL;DR: Fantastic Cubano Italiano with a flavorful kick and crispy, fresh bread. Spotless space and friendly staff. Only downside: $17 for a fairly small portion. Stopped by EARL in Kakaʻako and ordered the Cubano Italiano--really solid sandwich. The bread was crispy and fresh, and the ingredients tasted high-quality and thoughtfully layered. There was a nice spicy kick from the pepperoncini and mustard, which added a great contrast to the richness of the pork and salami. The restaurant itself was very clean, with a minimalist, modern feel and plenty of natural light. It's a comfortable spot to hang out for a casual bite. Staff were friendly and helpful, and my order came out in a reasonable amount of time. Only drawback: the sandwich cost $17, and I finished it in about 16 bites (yes, I counted, because when the sandwich arrived I was surprised). For that price, I was expecting either a bigger portion or a side included. Overall, EARL delivers on taste, quality, and vibe--just wish the sandwich packed a bit more value for the price. read more

The food was fresh and delicious. So much so that my daughter and I went back to back two days in a row. They have an assortment of sauces that are unique and very tasty. The cashier was very helpful in selecting our menu choice and very accommodating for the changes that I wanted to make, but by putting my sauces on the side instead of directly on the chicken sandwich. It was really nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air, but also have the option to sit indoors if need be. I would definitely recommend this place for both the chicken sandwich and the burgers. read more

Could I have made this at home? Yes. Did I appreciate the convenience of not having to? Absolutely. However, paying $35 for two chicken sandwiches and fries felt steep, even considering island prices. I ordered two hot honey sandwiches - one with cheese and returned to the counter to add lettuce, tomato, and onion, only to be charged an additional $4.50. While I expected the sandwiches to be a bit pricey (this wasn't my first time), the extra charge for basic toppings after already paying $30 for two (regular) chicken sandwiches and fries makes me second guess my lunch choice. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the place....maybe opt for one of the specialty sandwiches, as they seem to offer more toppings by default. Honorable mention, also returned to counter to get Nashville hot sauce (reasonably priced :+$1) - the hot honey was ok, but felt like it was missing something. read more

I ordered door dash from here and was totally satisfied. Huge portions and delicious food. We got turkey sub with added avocado, mushroom burger on the tastiest softest bun, and a huge order of waffle fries that lasted three days. Thank God for my air fryer for reheating. Everything arrived warm and was delicious. read more
