    Kalbi cheesesteak
    Sunny V.

Sandwiches are delicious and i always come back for the chicken sandwiches. They have inside and outside seating tables. The staff is always friendly. I chose to try the kalbi cheesesteak and it was messy but delicious! I might not get that again but like I said the chicken sandwiches are the best!

Lots of indoor seating and a single stall bathroom available! This spot is on the corner and has lots of sandwich options which can be great on a hot day when you need some AC. I ordered the turkey with pesto and added avocado. The bread was so yummy but it was definitely a more narrow sandwich. I also tried the chicken sandwich which was good but a smaller portion. They were out of fries which sucked... but the staff was very friendly! We ordered chips and a drink anyway. Overall a good place but pretty pricy for size.

They sell east coast subs, burgers and chicken sandwiches. We tried two of their subs and it wasn't bad. We got the classic cheesesteak (top sirloin, white American, cheese whiz, grilled onions and mayo) $19.50 and Earl's cheesesteak (top sirloin, white American, provolone, chipotle sauce, grilled onions and sweet peppers) $19.95. The classic cheesesteak was better. It was moist, had more cheese and was more flavored. The Earl's cheesesteak was dry and we could hardly taste the cheese. They both came in a crisp and toasted baguette. They also had my fave Orange Bang as a fountain drink. You don't see those everyday. We ordered the house drink sweet tea $5.50. It was different. It wasn't the sweet tea that I'm used to. The tea was flavored. It has some kind of floral taste to it. The drinks are refillable. I refilled it with an Orange Bang, which I loved.

    Cubano

Great sandwiches although parking in the area can be tricky, the parking lot across the street is monitored. Wife and I ordered two sandwiches, a Cubano and a Hot Honey Old Bay Fried Chicken. I preferred the Cubano, the chorizo is a nice touch but all the hallmarks are there (mortadella and the peppers were my fave). Solid 8.5/10. The fried chicken sandwich was good, but we mainly got it to try the Old Bay seasoning. Wasn't too hot, 8/10 Earl Fries were good, the pickles were a nice touch although it did make certain spots on the fries a little soft due to liquid (we brought the food home). 8.0 Spicy Pickles were the weakest link for me, and I misread--I thought it was fried pickles. 6.5/10, although I can see them adding to certain sandwiches as a topping. The location itself is chill and the workers were efficient. All in all, great sandwich spot to have in the back pocket.

    Pastrami Burger and Waffle fries

Right in the heart of this gentrified neighborhood we call Kakaako (ka-ka-ah-ko) is EARL, an adorable little sandwich shop that has the feel of an old school burger joint with all the vibrant colors but with a touch of modern feel. It kind of gives me 90s saved by the bell vibes. Once inside you can order up front with the cashier or off to the side you can use an iPad if you feeling antisocial. When I walked in the cashier was a nice young lady who smiled and politely took my order. Nothing extravagant or above and beyond customer service but just good ol friendly hospitality. I ordered a pastrami burger and waffle fries to use up the rest of my Christmas gift cards. This was probably my 3rd visit to this establishment. I came there day prior with the intention of ordering the pastrami burger but in sheer travesty they were out of burger patties!!! Since I'm a kind, forgiving, handsome young man, I made the return journey back just to try this burger. I arrived shortly after the 11 o'clock hour to find only a few people inside. No line to order. I recommend coming around this time or earlier as EARLY is a popular guy who has many lunchtime visitors. The wait for your food can take almost an hour or months if you go too late (jk). I came early this time but still waited about 20 minutes. After getting my food I began the trek back to my office. In keeping with American custom and tradition, I ate a fry out of the bag. It had a light crisp on the outside and soft interior. It wasn't really hot so likely the fries sat. The fries look fresh and not flash frozen or from a bag so that's a plus. Overall fries were 3 out of 5. Could've been higher if fries were hot. Finally I reached my destination and got to try the star of the show. The pastrami burger looked tasty with all the fresh ingredients bursting out of the bun. The bun was soft, the burger patty was slightly juicy and not dry, and the pastrami added this nice little touch. Neither the burger or pastrami over powered the other which was great as it had a nice balance of flavors. Probably my favorite item so far at EARL. Pastrami Burger 4 out of 5. Honest Opinion: while EARL was a very pleasant experience and had tasty food, I'm not sure if the price justifies me returning anytime soon. For almost $20 I felt like something was lacking. Likely it was price to portion ratio. Though it taste much better than a subway I can't see how the price / taste would make me go to EARL instead of a much cheaper subway sandwich that's much more filling. We can't blame that on the fine people EARL as prices are high everywhere. Please note I work in the area and am part of the downtown lunchtime crowd so $20 every weekday on lunch is not feasible for me. That's why I usually bring a bag lunch. Recommendations: Give a EARL a try. The three times of gone to EARL I've never had a bad meal or experience. If you're someone who can spend $20 a day on lunch then this is definitely a good spot for you. If you're not then give it a try and maybe you have a place you can go to once and awhile when you want a fresh sandwich. I don't see myself coming man here anytime soon but I can see myself craving one of their many sandwiches so likely this was not my last visit to EARL.

Country style chicken sandwich and a daily special cheesesteak
    Hailley O.

I was craving sandwiches for lunch so we decided to check out Earl. I ordered the country style chicken sandwich and my boyfriend got a cheesesteak that was on the daily specials that day. The chicken sandwich I got was ok, it was a little dry and I wish it had more sauce on it. The cheesesteak sandwich was really good, lots of meat and cheese, and the crispy bread held it all together nicely. We also got a side of waffle fries, which were good; you don't see waffle fries at much places. When we were there, there weren't a lot of people so food came out fairly quickly. Prices aren't too bad either!

Went here with my wife before the beach. I had been craving a sandwich. We ordered a chicken Philly and steak Philly and it just felt like the sandwiches were missing some flavor. It was so close to being good but just wasn't great. I also think the price for a sandwich was a bit much. We spent almost $60 on two sandwiches, two drinks, chips and loaded fries. I'd give 3/5 for the food but for the price 2/5. Way over priced even for Honolulu

Hot Honey Old Bay Chicken Sandwich

My boyfriend recently started working at a barbershop nearby and we have gone to get food here a few times now. Everything we have tried is really good! I love their chicken sandwiches! Like it was a problem at one point.. My personal favorite is the Hot Honey Old Bay and of course you have to get their crispy waffle fries. On another occasion I tried the Italian 12". It was also very good. It was meaty and had all the yummy pickled veggies. And honestly I don't know what I was expecting when it came to the size of the sandwich but it was pretty big. It was my lunch and dinner for the day! I also saw recently on IG that they're gonna start doing combos so I'm excited to go back and check it out soon! PS I'd rather spend my money here and support local instead of a fast food chain that charges the same prices.

    EARL Single combo

Used to be one of the best places to get a decent sandwich but they've taken too many of the goods ones off the menu, like the turkey jam sam. Also, they don't allow you to build your own sandwiches which deters me from going there for a sandwich. Their prices have also gotten pretty pricey. Oddly enough, the other items on the menu like their chicken burgers and waffle cut fries are tasty. I'm so happy they added Orange Bang to their fountain drinks but I must say it's pretty diluted/watered down.

    Waffle Fries
    Tasha K.

EARL Kakaako is my go-to spot for a quick, delicious sandwich or burger. Although they're known for their sandwiches, I always get the Earl Single burger, which is melty and full of their flavorful EARL sauce. I love their crispy Waffle Fries and their unique house made ketchup. Vibe: There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I love bringing my dog with me! The workers are nice and the service is very fast. They also have a bathroom inside the restaurant. Parking: There's street parking around the area, but typically it's hard to find a stall during busy hours.

Ordered delivery for a party and got the hot honey old bay. Wowww why is everything there so delicious?! Amazing flavor profile, not too spicy but added depth. Huge juicy piece of chicken breaded to perfection *drool*! Super filling. Coworkers got the sub sandwiches which looked huge, delicious, and packed to the max!!

    Country style chicken sandwich combo

Ordered my food at around 3:15 pm, I just now get my food at 3:52 pm. Genuinely don't know what the hell is going on with the workers. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich combo, it's decently packed so I wasn't really worried about how long it was taking, but then 30 minutes pass and everyone is walking out but me. I look up and a couple that ordered 15 minutes after me is already sitting down and eating their food, so that's when I ask how long much longer it will take, and the woman says she'll go check, not very kindly either, she comes back out with my bag in hand, so apparently it's been ready this whole time? I'm quite confident that the lady didn't hand my food to me on purpose, because everyone else's name was called except mine and their food was brought to them, but mine? No name shouted and no food brought, hope you get fired because I used to love this place and was a repeat customer, but recently the workers have been very weird and not hospitable. I check to see and yep, the fries are cold and stale. I also got the sweet tea and it's not good, the tea is very bitter and has a bad aftertaste. Thanks, just got scammed out of 20 bucks for a small burger, fries, and a drink.

With a few locations around the island, we decided to try the Kakaako location. This sandwich shop is located across from SALT Kakaako and dry bar. There is street parking around or parking in the SALT or H-Mart structures if you want to check out those locations too. The sandwich place itself is a decent size with a few tables and a counter on the other side of the tables. There is a menu above the counter with the sandwich options. There are chicken sandwiches, vegetarian ones, and other options. The person working was kind and patient as we decided on which sandwiches to get. We ended up ordering the caprese and chipotle chicken cheesesteak. The sandwiches were a bit pricey with both ranging about $15-17. It took a bit for the sandwiches to come out but they were a pretty good size. There was a good amount of meat in the cheesesteak and the flavors were balanced. The meat, cheese, and peppers melded well. The caprese was good as well with a lot of lettuce. We did not finish our sandwiches and ended up taking about half of each back home. It was overall a good experience and we will hopefully be back to try other sandwiches.

    Where to park?

There's a parking garage right across the street at SALT. 🙂

Do they have a Keiki menu?

No, but we can accommodate keikis. We can do a ham and cheese sandwich, grilled cheese, or turkey.

    Are there gluten-free options?

You can have any sandwich as a salad, but we do not have GF bread, & we don't do wraps.

    Do they offer delivery?

    Not at this time.

Do you offer a gluten-free bread option?

Is this location open? They don't answer their phone!?

They're open 10am-8pm weekdays, unsure of their weekend hours.

    Do they still do brunch?

No, when I asked they thy are “currently not offering brunch”.

What does E.A.R.L. stand for? I notice it is sometimes spelled with or without the periods but always all caps. Just curious :)
