Or you can park in the private paid parking lot with the entrance on 11th or 12th Ave. Service took a while as we took the last table in there as it was busy. Food took a while as pizza takes a while to make and cook it. That's understandable. Ambiance is casual. Both wall air conditioning units were off at the time. It was warm in there. We will be back as there is no pizza like an original Magoo's pizza. It's been the same from the beginning till now from what I remember as I was a kid back then. Kids love pizza!! Used to love Magoo's. Great pizza, nice thin crust and good sauce. However, the last few times it's not the same quality, especially the last very last time. Ordered online take out, large supreme combo, for pick up. My order was ready in time for me so good service. They offered me a one small container of cheese and one of pepperoni flakes. When I passed on the pepper flakes, she gave me one more small container of cheese. I would have appreciated getting more as it was a large pizza. Here's where it turned bad. Got home and when we started serving, noticed the crust didn't seem to be the thin style I'm used to or wanted. Also, it was a little burnt which affected the taste and over all flavor of the pizza. I've always liked Magoo's and like supporting local. But after these last few times and especially this one, I'm seriously thinking the hut and papa j's may be better options for future pizza nights. read more

I'm gonna preface this review with the fact that as a child I frequently Magoo's often. They had locations in Aiea, Salt Lake, and Puck's Alley... with the bar! All types of beers on tap. It was superb! All these years later, they are now situated in Kaimukī & the food quality is still ʻonolicious. We ordered pizza, chicken wings, garlic cheese bread. The seating is limited. Maybe fits 50-55 ppl. There are 4 high tops near the street entrance fronting the windows, some tables in the main dining area, as well as some seat on the bar. The vibe is super laid back, dark lighting, friendly people. However, there were some hiccups in the service. We ordered our food pretty quickly after we sat (we were hungry!) Another table sat and were served part of our order. ‍ We watched it happen in real time. Then, the server tried to give it to us even though it sat on that couple's table. The 3/5 stars has nothing to do with the food because the food is delicious!!! I just did not like the ally way leading into the restaurant and the fact that they were out of the mac salad. Also, the direct tables. It seems like there are two entrances but from someone who has never been here, it can be confusing on how to get in here. We went through a dark alleyway to enter in. It was unclear if it was the actual entrance because the only indicator was a crumbled menu outside of the entrance. No overhead sign or other indicator. After going in, the tables were dirty so we cleaned them off. We ordered a medium pepperoni pizza and REALLY enjoyed the pizza!!! It was hot and fresh. I would 100% eat this again. read more

I just moved to Kaimuki from Ala Moana. One of my colleagues had mentioned that his dad grew up eating Magoo's Pizza so he recommended I try it myself. The food was so-so, but was very expensive. They also overcharged me. The waiter was not unpleasant, just uncomfortable to be around. He was wound up and very hyper. He suggested I order the house pizza, the Combo. I ordered the XL size to have leftovers. The menu says $36.95, but they charged me $40.95 for the pizza. I did not realize until I came home and double checked the receipt against their website. The restaurant itself was pretty dead, only 1 table seated and 3 drunk men at the bar that wreaked of cigarette smoke. Pizza night... Nothing like pizza and friends and when Terry K has this night planned I was definitely in and made it that much easy not to decide what's for dinner lol! Located right up on Waialae just after the park parking is basically the municipal lot in the back or if you're luck street parking is much more convenient which didn't work for me on this night but knowing there will always be parking available regardless is a nice and convenient thought. Never been to this location and I do love how this cozy spot makes it all work and as I arrived a bit late they got a couple of pizzas started and we were able to order items off the menu as well including Magoo's Pizza Sub which was a nice touch that it's basically a create your own (three toppings) pizza on a bun, and we got their chicken wings...fried wings which are coated in dry seasonings and was just seasoned perfectly came with both blue cheese and buttermilk ranch it was great on it's own as it was very hot at crispy this indeed was one of the best wings I've ever had. The night was nice as we talked and I learned so much more about some friends as we enjoyed the vibe here is just so nice and relaxing, the staff are amazing and so attentive and will be back definitely for wings and pizza. Original Magoo's Pizza used to be on University Ave back in the days. It closed that location over 20 years ago and moved around a couple of times. Their current location is on Waialae Ave in Kaimuki. This location is a much bigger footprint than their location they had a couple of years ago. Service is excellent during my recent visit. The front of the house was run by Daniel (waiter, cashier, bartender, and busboy. Happy hour is daily with 50% off bottle wines till 6pm. The pizzas were good. The Magoo's combo is the way to go. Get the giant size if you're in a large group, it's perfect for sharing. Parking is street metered or paid hourly parking in the back. read more

I remember eating at Magoo's on the Big Island as a child and eating the hot ham and mushroom sub. As an adult now, I am so happy to see that same sandwich is on the menu. Our party of 4 shared the Magoo's favorite combo pizza, fried chicken wings and the hot ham and mushroom sub. My favorite from our meal was the sub! I just love the cheese and mustard - how it compliments the mushroom and ham. While we ate, we were treated to a live band that played Hawaiian music! My childhood is reminiscent of eating Magoos square pizza. Nice crispy crust and ooey gooey cheese. Leftovers were the best when you put it in the toaster oven. Back then they used to be in their yellow food truck. Today, Magoos can be found in the bustling Kaimuki area right on Waialae Avenue. Street parking in front or paid parking in back. We had takeout from her one day and got the veggie pizza and a pepperoni pizza. I was disappointed at the lack of flavor. Maybe that's the problem with food as a child. You have a thought in your head that it is utterly delicious. Then you grow up and realize it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Maybe it was a miss on that day. After seeing Magoo's had opened up in Kaimuki after going there in high school in the 70' s & remembering the good times & delicious pizza. I left Hawaii & returned 43 years later. I had to see if the original combination pizza was the same as I remembered. It was loaded with pork sausage, pepperoni, olives, & we omitted the bell peppers. It was pretty much as I had remembered, nice & crusty, cooked perfectly! The zucchini was cut into bite size cubes & lightly battered & served with a single portion of ranch dressing. Corona & Modelo Especial bottles washed everything down. While everything was good, it lacked the ''Wow''factor I remembered !Colton served as bartender& server and he provided polite & excellent customer service. Lunch in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii... Magoo's Pizza is an old-school name. It was popular in the past, disappeared, and returned! What is Original Magoo's Pizza? As I walked past the sign on Waialae Avenue, I decided to try it. I had parked at a metered street stall, even though the municipal parking lot is right behind the restaurant. I entered the cool, air-conditioned, nicely decorated, cozy space and was greeted immediately by an enthusiastic employee! He was very eager to serve and asked if I was doing takeout or dine-in... Good question. I was going to do takeout, but realized that pizza tastes best fresh and hot. He showed me to a seat at the bar and suggested that I get the Baby Pizza... ok! He asked if I wanted pepperoni... ok! Then I looked at the menu. The pizza arrived quickly. I was offered some water. I declined, but he brought some anyway - thank you! He also brought a plate, napkins, and utensils. The pizza crust was thin and crisp - like a cracker! The pepperoni was a bit spicy. The cheese was ok... I sprinkled some Parmesan cheese over the top. Work lunch Wednesday was enjoyed at Magoo's Pizza in kaimuki. We had a large party and got there a little before 12 and had to wait because they don't open until 12. We ordered the chicken wings and got half dry and half wet in their buffalo blue cheese wet sauce. We ordered a couple of pizzas to share with the table one was their roasted garlic and chicken, pizza, which is my absolute favorite. However, if you don't like capers, then I would definitely say don't get this pizza because the capers bring that pop of salt in every bite, there were some amazing garlic pieces on the pizza. We also got the vegetarian pizza and combo pizza. Throughout our meal we were the only people in the restaurant until the very end. It is small, so our table of 10 took up the entire middle of the restaurant. But service was great, the food came out on time, and I will definitely be back to get more of the garlic chicken pizza. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews cuz they live forever. Maybe one day yelp will delete reviews after 4 or 5 years.. but here goes. Bad bad terrible. Called in a pickup order. 1 pizza, 1 wings. Told 20 minutes.. great, I was there in ten. My pizza was ready, but waiting on wings . The guy who took out my pizza from the "stay warm" bag then left my pizza in the rather chilly Arctic test room more commonly called their restaurant. WTF... Why did he leave it sitting out. Under a fan no less. I clearly wasn't taking it yet because wings weren't done. Fifteen minutes later. Manager(?) explains to me, new cook working the wings, but my orders should be ready very soon. Ten minutes later, chicken comes out. Burn your mouth hot. Probably a little overcooked. It contrasted to the blahhh mild temp pizza. I grew up with magoos right by our house. Haven't had Magoo's Pizza in years ever since they had their food truck down in Waikiki so when I heard they opened in Kaimuki I had to try it! We got the Magoo's Special Gourmet Pizza and Original Magoo's Cheese Pizza and it tasted exactly how it did when I had it years ago. I ordered the pizza online to go although there were plenty of seats to eat inside. Lots of parking in the back as well in the municipal parking lot and the worker's were very friendly. I first tried Magoo's Pizza in Waikiki over 25 years ago. Was always awesome. Then enjoyed it when they were selling it out of the food truck at the 76 Station on King Street. Same great taste and people. Since that closed, I haven't had it. I saw that they opened up in Kaimuki but read that they had a few opening issues. Finally decided to go and try my favorite pizza. Ordered the combo and cheese pizzas. Happy to say same great taste and very generous with the toppings. The crust was super crunchy but not dry. Magoo's is the best Pizza period. This review is LONG OVERDUE ... so here goes! No Hu Hu- Call Magoo's! (this was part of the Magoo's jingle YEARS ago) and even after all these years, they are still around. They are located in Kaimuki on Waialae Ave. Parking is available on the streets; Waialae Ave and also in in the municipal lot with entrance on 12th and 10th Aves. The menu is exactly as I remember it to be. There are original uniforms and memorabilia from years gone by. This visit to Magoo's brought a bunch of us Yelpers together to share in some fun, pizza, chicken wings, wine and fellowship! Hana Hou yelpers and Magoo's. footnote- I think Dan O had an informal gathering here and I couldn't attend. From that time, Magoo's had been on on my mind. The charm here is this old timey feel with still keeping the interior renovated in a way that maintains the family legacy with new enough decor that doesn't blemish the history. The scene is great, the old sign, the bar, the Pac Man arcade game, the menus have funky font and printing. Food options for pizza, sandwichs/subs, a couple of salads, fried chicken wings, desserts, cocktails, beer, wine, soda, and juice. Parking in the lot in back with a direct entrance is very convenient! Miss when was Pucks Alley...and one of the better bars that has been in the spot in a while. But driving by and Hubs said we should try and see if just as good as back in the day. So we did take out the next day. Ordered the Combo, Garlic and CHicken, and some wings. - Combo was ok ... almost like everything was low sodium...like it lacked some taste. - Garlic and Chicken - loooove capers. Choke garlic but think they forgot the chicken. Or at least the 2 pieces I had didn't have any chicken. Maybe just not evenly dispersed? I'm a fan of even dispersion. - Wings - perfectly cooked and nice flavor to it. DELISH. I like the crust on the pizza and it's tough enough to hold up all the toppings. We realized neither of us really remembered what the pizza tasted like...We were in college and never exactly sober when there. So the nostalgia part went out the window. But overall pretty good. Spent almost $100. Pretty expensive for 2 12" pizzas, and some wings, but I guess pizza is expensive now. And at least kinda choke toppings (minus the chicken). read more

This is a tough review since they forgot our order not once but twice!!! Each time they were very apologetic and in the end, they comped our dinner. As for the food itself, it was good. The Caesar salad was decent, nothing special. It was iceberg lettuce and bottled dressing but the croutons made the salad. The croutons tasted like lightly toasted garlic bread. Surprisingly, the potato salad was also good. It had the right amount of potatoes, mayonnaise, salt and whatever else they add to it. The one thing I really like about it was it didn't have vinegar, like a lot of places. The pizza was also very tasty. We got the Hawaiian and I liked that it had a good amount of cheese on it. Also, the sauce was not tangy but very subtle. The crust was thin and crispy. All in all, a very good pizza. The one nice thing about this quaint pizza place in Kaimuki is that it has live entertainment. Adds to the ambiance of a fun, neighborhood pizza place. All things considered, I'll go back and give it another try. If they forget my order again, you'll be the first to hear about it! read more

Changed my review from 2 stars (for sentimentality) to 1 (for the way things are now). Periodically, I check the customer photos here to see if the combo is back up to snuff. What I'm noticing is besides the sparse layer of cheese, the toppings don't make it even near to the edge of the pizza. This weekend, that same family member who experienced the lackluster, takeout giant combo around the time I did decided to give it another try. Not one sausage on the pie. Two slices of pepperoni on a giant combo. He said it's basically a vegetarian pizza now if you don't count the hair his wife found in her slice. That was the second time she pulled one off one of your pizzas. So sadly, it's not up to snuff. It's getting worse. Do you guys not wear hygienic kitchen gear? Is it only the takeout pizzas that lack the ingredients stated in the pizza description? Is this a matter of who's making the pizza, or is this the way you instruct them to make the pizzas? All of this is a huge change from even the way the Kapahulu location made their pies. That was the last time a Magoo's pizza tasted like a Magoo's pizza. read more

I love Magoos. The staff they have is always friendly and their pizza and chicken dinner are worth it! Weekends sometimes have live music!

The service was terrible. We got our bill and found that they had overcharged us an extra dessert that we did not order. We let the worker know and he decided to argue with us rather than listen to our concerns. We even showed him how to calculate our bill with tax correctly based on the menu prices, but he was reluctant to watch. I could tell he noticed that it was wrong, but he continued to argue with us even after paying. He overcharged us by $9. I would never recommend this place to anyone they don't put their customers first and don't allow them to explain their concerns. No restaurant should be arguing with the customer especially so loudly in front of everyone in the restaurant. Do not come here it is not worth your energy dealing with the staff. read more

Terrible customer service from female (Elian on receipt) to not only leave us waiting for a pizza that was already done 10-15 minutes before we had to ask as the guy doesn't say a single word then to tell me "it happens" like she could care less tand it happens all the time hen tell me over the phone that we can go to Dominos or CPK because i'm rude myself like we're sitting here for how long waiting for a pizza that was done long time ago if we hadn't asked who knows how long we would've been sitting there waiting and you have the nerve to call me rude ummm no B you're rude and have the worse customer service I have ever seen but I will take your advice though and go to Dominos or CPK next time for sure I would never come there again and I would advise everyone else to do the same. read more

I heard magoo's opened in town and I had to check it out. I love pizza! Me and a friend of mine were nearby working and decided to pop in for lunch. We lucked out and found parking outside. Parking still available inside the lot. They're directly across the street from the queen theatre. Nice place. Good location. They do have a bar there. Good amount of space. Plus, there's a pac-man arcade game. Nice! We ordered a pizza and I got a sandwich for later. The pizza was really good! Not burnt or too greasy. I ordered the pizza sub. Pizza with 3 toppings in a sub. Can't go wrong. I believe our server was also the owner. Nice guy. Good service. Our food was made once we ordered so it did take a bit to come out. I ordered the sub after we ate which took about as long as the pizza did. Plan accordingly. All-in-all, a good experience. I'd go again. This would be good for a family or friends get together. No Hu Hu Call Magoo's - this catchy slogan has stuck with me since 1970-80's. When they ran their commercial after Checkers & Pogos, poor mothers would have their kids begging for Magoo's. Does this pizza live up to my childhood memories? Yes it does. I forgot, not all their pizzas are round, some are square. Their square pizza dough is on the thiner & crispy side. It tastes good hot but doesn't reheated well the next day. I ordered the a Giant Magoo's Special Gourmet Pizza for take out. Right away, Popo declared that Magoo's pizza was better than Dominos & Boston Pizza. Thats because she likes her pizza loaded with toppings on a crispy crust. She does not care for New York style pizzas - a large slice of pizza with a thin foldable crust and minimal toppings (anorexic pizza's.) Nor does she care for the deep dish style pizza with a thicker dough like crust (too oily.) What stood out for me was the chunks of whole roasted garlic. The tomato base pizza sauce was good. We made reservations for 12 on a Saturday. They open at 1200. Table was set up for us. We had a plastic table cover we used and balloons. Justin was our waiter, actually he was the only person. He gave us pitchers of water and extra napkins and glasses. We ordered a pizza for the retiree and it arrived right after she arrived. Justin kept the pizza coming as well as drinks. We had a great time with the ono pizza. The famous combo, veggie, and mushroom and chicken was crispy and hot! Myself and another person even ended up bringing home dinner for the family.
