The Fourth Earl of Sandwich was nobleman John Montagu. Legend has that in 1762 he was playing cards and did not want interrupt the game to get food. Instead he asked for a serving of roast beef to be placed between two slices of bread which could be eaten with his hands. Another story has him fighting the French and with no time to feed the troops and he asked that a piece of boiled beef be placed between bread. Either way the sandwich was invented changing the lunch time landscape forever. The 11th Earl of Sandwich, a descendant of John Montagu and also named John Montagu capitalized on his ancestors invention and along with his son and Robert Earl from Planet Hollywood, founded a sandwich shop based in Orlando, Florida. A bit of irony, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich's son is named Orlando. The first restaurant opened on March 19, 2004, in Disney Springs and there are now 38 restaurants including internationally. When traveling north, Earl of Sandwich has become a favorite food stop on the Florida Turnpike. This restaurant is located in the Fort Drum Service Plaza. I noticed now that you don't place your order face to face. Instead you order and pay on a screen and then they call you when your meal is ready. A favorite is always the Earl's Club made with turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, Roma tomato, and sandwich sauce. I love how the sandwiches are toasted and come out hot. They also sell chips, cookies, and beverages. You can get a fresh tasting, hand held meal quickly and get back on the road or enjoy it at one of the tables in the service plaza. The sandwiches are very filling but not light on calories at around 880 calories each but they are delicious and make a great road trip treat.

We were heading back from West Palm Beach. we did a quick stop for food and to use the restroom. I went with the Earl Of Sandwich and got the chipotle chicken avocado sandwich ($9) and fountain soda ($3). The sevenish inched sandwich bread was wonderfully toasted with a good amount of chicken, avocado, and melted cheddar cheese. The lettuce was fresh and gave the extra kick of healthiness.

The Earl of Sandwich. Great sandwich's at good prices. No contact ordering, fast service, grilled sandwiches better than I expected. We ordered the Earl's Club (Turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and Thousand Island sauce) and the Original 1762 (Roast beef, cheddar cheese and horseradish sauce). Both sandwiches were excellent. The shared dining space was spacious, exceptionally clean, with comfortable seating. For what it is ... fast food ... in the Fort Drum Service Plaza ... on the Florida Turnpike ... Five Well Deserved Stars, good job! [ Julie Montagu, Viscountess Hinchingbrooke, (daughter-in-law of the Earl of Sandwich) would be pleased.]

Food at this spot located inside Fort Drum sandwiches were ok I had the tuna. And the service was very poor not friendly or courteous. Ambiance.loud and very rushed tone expected of a service plaza.

The hours on Yelp are incorrect. This pit stop has limited choices that aren't junk food and Earl of Sandwich is almost the only one without fried food. This whole stop is a bit of a mess but over all the sandwiches came out fast and we were on our way and happy with the food.

The food really had a metallic taste to it due to the wrapping.

This was my first time eating here and there's nothing to brag about. I made a bee line thinking this was the best choice in the plaza. But now that I think of it, I should've gone to that Italian place. To the managers please purchase new wrapping paper. The food had a metallic like taste almost as if I was eating the wrapping paper. It made it difficult to eat the sandwich. I just couldn't get past it.

IMO, Earl of Sandwich is one of the best restaurant options available on the turnpike if one must eat while traveling; Certainly better than the usual pizza, KFC and fast food burger joints that one finds in most of the service plazas. I stopped here during a recent drive from Orlando to Miami, as I left Orlando at about 11 and was getting quite hungry when I approached this service plaza. I'd eaten at another Earl of Sandwich location in the past and was a fan of their food, so I decided to stop here. I had the Original 1762 and a bowl of their creamy tomato soup with croutons. Unlike most fast food restaurants where they do most of the preparation behind the scenes, the food at Earl of Sandwich is created in plain sight of the customers. To make my Original 1762, for instance, they took one of their signature artisan baked loaves, buttered the top, opened it up, added sliced roast beef (not processed cold cut roast beef, but proper freshly sliced roast beef), then added cheddar cheese, and placed it on a conveyor belt that passes it through a toasting machine that both heats the sandwich and toasts the bread. On the other side, they add horseradish sauce and I asked them to add a bit of mustard as well. All totaled the sandwich, soup and medium soft drink came to $13, so not the most inexpensive fast food option, but definitey one of the tastiest and one with some of the freshest ingredients. In all, I'm a fan of the Earl of Sandwich chain.

Service was good & quick. The sandwich tasted great & packed with fresh deli turkey. I ordered the Earl's club which comes with Turkey, Bacon, and topping and pressed through the oven.

Absolutely horrendous experience…read more My husband and I were passing through Okeechobee and decided to stop for lunch and it ended up being a huge disappointment from start to finish. Before ordering, the waitress offered chips and salsa, which we happily accepted since it's something we always look forward to at Mexican restaurants. She asked if we wanted mild or hot so we chose one of each. She also mentioned the salsa would be served warm which we thought was unusual but did not question at the time. When it arrived the chips seemed like basic store bought rounds and instead of salsa, we were served what tasted exactly like hot enchilada sauce. Both bowls were the same spice level despite us requesting mild and hot. At first I thought it might be taco sauce but when my husband's enchiladas came out it confirmed that we had been served the same exact sauce as on his plate. I also ordered a burrito but what I received was more like an open faced soft taco since it was not wrapped at all and was very small. The refried beans were also completely bland and had no flavor. Overall, the food and experience were extremely disappointing. It felt like a very poor representation of Mexican cuisine and I would not recommend this place to anyone. Stay away.

Located just across the The Woods restaurant and the Wyndham Hotel in a small but lively mall with waterside access (you can drive or boat there!) they also had indoor seating which suited us just fine. The food was prepared as soon as we placed our order at the cash register, and brought to our table. Our lunch bowls looked as good as they tasted! We both had the chicken bowl and I have to say that the rice was absolutely delicious! I also liked that the chicken was not cold, but warm, as well as the sweet peppers: this added a delicious touch to my lunch. Then we had some dessert balls... they were so good that we went back for more and even took some home to share! They also have many healthy juices and some other delicious snacks as Croissants- that we will have to try next time. Enjoy!!

It's a little off the beaten path for me and I'm a lazy ass so it took me until this weekend to get there! Arriving- It's in the clubhouse of the North Golf Course in the Highland's Ridge Community. Follow the signs for that clubhouse or let your GPS do the work. If you are familiar with the area, it was formally The Tavern. Ambience- So this is what a lot of folks would call a Country Club restaurant. As I had patronized the old tenants, I was curious how they were going to transform it into an Irish Pub. The answer is they didn't! It looks nothing like and Irish Pub. It's a large space with lots of natural light and traditional furniture. It has lots of outside seating that's covered with ceiling fans and many seats have a nice view! There is a very small bar that seats about six. In short, it looks like a Country Club restaurant. So much for pub ambience! Customer Service- Awesome, maybe seven stars! I had substantial interactions with the manager, bartender, and a server. All were exceptional. Adult Libations- Definitely not a pub style bar. It's a full bar with just a few taps but nothing special. Food- Like the ambience, it's an American menu with a couple of Irish dishes. There's Bangers & Mash and Shepard's Pie. Other than that, they throw in a couple of Irish terms to deceive you but it's really an American menu. There're enough choices to satisfy most folks. See their website. I ordered Irish Brisket Flatbread- Brisket, bacon, caramelized onions, diced tomatoes, BBQ sauce, mozzarella cheese @ $13. It was out in good time and plated very nicely. Plenty of food for the price so good value. The flatbread was nicely crisp. I love caramelized onions and that's the base here. Everything was very fresh. Plenty of brisket. Unfortunately, the onions overpowered the other ingredients, so the flavors were not balanced. It was tasty but needed a little work to be a winner. Conclusion- If you're looking for an Irish Pub, you're in the wrong place. If you're looking for an American menu that has some potential with a great staff and beautiful outside seating, give it a try. As they are new and the staff is awesome combined with the outside seating, I'm going to be a little charitable and say four stars!
