IMO, Earl of Sandwich is one of the best restaurant options available on the turnpike if one must eat while traveling; Certainly better than the usual pizza, KFC and fast food burger joints that one finds in most of the service plazas. I stopped here during a recent drive from Orlando to Miami, as I left Orlando at about 11 and was getting quite hungry when I approached this service plaza. I'd eaten at another Earl of Sandwich location in the past and was a fan of their food, so I decided to stop here. I had the Original 1762 and a bowl of their creamy tomato soup with croutons. Unlike most fast food restaurants where they do most of the preparation behind the scenes, the food at Earl of Sandwich is created in plain sight of the customers. To make my Original 1762, for instance, they took one of their signature artisan baked loaves, buttered the top, opened it up, added sliced roast beef (not processed cold cut roast beef, but proper freshly sliced roast beef), then added cheddar cheese, and placed it on a conveyor belt that passes it through a toasting machine that both heats the sandwich and toasts the bread. On the other side, they add horseradish sauce and I asked them to add a bit of mustard as well. All totaled the sandwich, soup and medium soft drink came to $13, so not the most inexpensive fast food option, but definitey one of the tastiest and one with some of the freshest ingredients. In all, I'm a fan of the Earl of Sandwich chain. read more

I am fond of gas station rest stops. We have dozens of stops like these up north in Pennsylvania where they are just rambling food courts with various foods to choose from. I have fond family trip memories of these & you kinda have to go very Deep South into Florida to get to these - so it's awesome that the Fort Drum rest stop has an Earl of Sandwich. So, yes I was skeptical of this particular franchise just because I am fond of the one at Disney Springs. Keep in mind we made a pit stop here on December 23rd 2 days prior to Christmas. No one is really happy, traveling from all kinds of places. So yes, if I was at this establishment right before the holiday weekend I would expect, frankly a shit sandwich on a holiday weekend. The entitlement of weary travelers is kinda ridiculous - I think sometimes common courtesy goes a long way - you should really be nice to the person that feeds you. I am always fond of the Fight Club motto - "Remember this. The people you're trying to step on, we're everyone you depend on. We're the people who do your laundry and cook your food and serve your dinner." Be kind. A little bit goes a long way. That being said, I got a great sandwich- one that was so good I got a second one for the road. I got the Holiday Turkey sandwich which was amazing - it's a huge amount of deli turkey with cranberry on top of that lovely fresh ciabatta type bread & toasted till it's warm & gratifyingly filling. The sandwich was $7.99 & so delightful that I got a second one for hubby on the road. We'll be coming back on the way back. read more

My husband and I were driving from Tampa to Boca along the Florida Turnpike and wanted to stop for lunch. There aren't many dining options once you are about an hour outside of Tampa so we decided to have lunch at The Earl of Sandwich near the Yeehaw Junction. This wouldn't have been my first choice for lunch, but it sounded better than a greasy burger or a bucket of fried chicken. I ordered the Ham and Swiss sandwich and my husband ordered The Earl's Club sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup. The food was ok, but my husband's soup was lukewarm so he had to go back to the cashier to have the soup reheated. I wasn't a fan of the mustard sauce on my Ham & Swiss sandwich and my sandwich was drenched in the sweet sauce. My husband was nice enough to give me the other half of his Club sandwich. His sandwich was a much better choice. It was nice to take a break and stretch our legs, but next time we make this drive I would probably just pack a picnic basket and skip dining at the Yeehaw Junction. read more

Wow.... we waited over twenty minutes for our order and went back after eating to watch the shit show continue to unfold. The line employees were all yelling at each other, our order was thrown out twice in front of us because they couldn't figure out if they were our sandwiches or not and finally my husband said we want money back. This prompted the woman taking orders to say "ok throw em away I guess he don't want them, I'm gonna go back and have to get a manager", and the line cook yelled back "I've made them three fing times and you keep throwing them away!".... we finally just said give us any two sandwiches so we can get out of here. Food wasn't terrible, though they skipped the lettuce and tomato but at that point we didn't care. If you're looking for a quick bite- go anywhere else in the building Corporate may need to send down some people to train, the manager definitely wasn't managing. read more

What can I say, I've been going to Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney for years and I love it! One of the best quick sandwiches you'll ever have! So seeing these in service plazas always surprise me. I will always choose it over any other fast food options. At this location, you don't get the huge selection that's at Downtown Disney, but that's ok. They don't have the real estate for all of that. The line was short and ordering was quick. What was slow was the actual sandwich prep. Their sandwiches are always hot and great! I'm not a fan or tomatoe soup, but I love theirs! Try dipping your sandwich in it! Just be careful, the soup is very rich and doesn't always sit well with some people. That might not be so fun on a long car ride. lol All in all a great option if you stop here. read more

I don't even want to give them ANY stars... It's 8:45am on Sunday 5/6/18. The women in this location were VERY rude. The cashier forgot to give us a receipt then when the woman behind the counter called out a number I told her that we didn't get a receipt and she told us that she couldn't give us the food. She was really nasty about it. We told her to call the cashier who rang us up, which was in the back, and they just stood there staring at us. They proceeded to speak another language which I didn't understand. I told her that I hadn't the transaction showing in my bank account application. And they just said no. So finally the cashier came to the front and asked for the receipt and I told her she didn't give us the receipt. She looked and found the receipt she was supposed to give us. Then after much attitude they gave us our order. We actually had to extend our arms to get it from her because she refused to extend hers. I'm VERY disgusted with their attitude and service. I was surprised by the poster that implied Earl of Sandwich is owned by the descendant of the original Earl who came up with the first sandwich. It says the current owner is the 11th generation?? For really real? If so that is wild, probably just a marketing gimmick. I stood under the sign that said Order Here for a few minutes while the manager give me a few sideways glances, as the line formed behind me I finally called out to her, "do I order here?" No I was to order at the other end of the counter, she mumbled something about wishful thinking. They have 6 sandwiches to choose from here all containing some combination of turkey, aged cheeses, roast beef or chicken and some unique sauces like horseradish. I got the Full Montagu, it was quite tasty.(7$). All the sandwiches have a similar type of bread, something like a foccacia about 6" long and flat. For dessert they also have Ghiradelli chocolate brownies some stuffed with cream icing. They also serve hot Tomato soup and some salads and yogurt parfaits. They have self service fountain drinks and seemingly free USA Today papers. A nice quality food oasis in the florida turnpike fast food wasteland. read more

11 of us were on a road trip from Orlando to Key West, stopped here for a bite to eat. Five employees standing around chatting, when one finally acknowledged me, I proceeded to order a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. She quickly corrected me, "egg, bacon and cheese," Ok, whatever, thanks for the semantics lesson. I didn't open it til I was walking outside the plaza, the eggs were covered with black bits of burnt grease from the dirty flat top, so much so that the eggs appeared a spotty grey.. 5 employees standing around and they couldn't bother to clean the grill??? I immediately threw away the rest of the sandwich, if the grill hasn't been cleaned that early in the morning, I don't want to know what other health code violations are being ignored. Oddly enough, unbeknownst to me, another member of my party had ordered the same sandwich with the same results, she too threw out her sandwich. I work in the industry, and I'm aware of how seemingly difficult it can be to find a job, and therefore am reluctant to see anyone lose theirs. We went to the Earl of Sandwich on the way back from Miami because it was a unique-sounding restaurant off the Florida turnpike which Yelp pointed us to. Since it was late at night, there was no line, and we got our sandwich in a few minutes. I had a tasty roast beef sandwich which had higher quality meat than the processed food at Arby's. There was also cheese and horse radish, which I'm not normally a fan of, but this horse radish was not as palette-burning as others I've had. The price was a bit steep at $7 for a sandwich alone, but it was good enough to enjoy again if I were trapped on the turnpike in need of sustenance. Also, I think this place is run by the descendants of the actual Earl of Sandwich... or maybe I just made that up. read more

Edible, barely. I have been to other Earl's and they were wonderful. This one..not so much. Stand in line at Dunkin skip this. The workers were rude, she spoke all babbled, couldn't understand ANYTHING,. She got mad. My breakfast sandwich was cooked to leather and the eggs were similar to an omlette (good) BUT...green as broccoli as it was SO over cooked and dried up. The cheese had boiled away 100% I believe she did it on purpose as I couldn't understand her. My husband's looked half edible. I would RUN away from this Earl. Just pissy, uncaring employees. Earl Of Sandwich is a man among boys when compared to typical interstate eats, but on the Florida turnpike they are a giant. They do a great job of placing their locations in spots where delicious, convenient, and reasonably priced food are much needed(Downtown Disney and Planet Hollywood in Vegas are two other great examples). Some may argue that $6.99 for an "average" sized sandwich isn't a great deal, but I think the quality of the sandwich makes it a good value. I've only stopped at this Earl once(last week), but the Full Montagu I got here was as good as their other locations, which is just fine by me. The bread really makes their sandwiches and they somehow seem to get it perfect every time. This location doesn't have all the sandwich selections that their normal locations have, and the employees are sort of bland and just going through the motions. This is sort of to be expected for a service plaza, airport, or anywhere else where the emphasis is on convenience, but I still have to take away a star. In general though, Earl Of Sandwich may be my favorite chain sandwich in the country. read more

I always get the 1738 sandwich (which is called the 1762 Roast Beef) they don't mind I call it that. Its delicious! This location knows how to make it because my last sandwich at a different turnpike stop had the meat a little cold. The meat was hot this time and everything was heated correctly. The sandwich takes a little time to come out as the service is not as fast as you want it to be. I always feel I want more once I finish. It can be a little pricey as the sandwich is over 8 dollars with no chips and a drink. I am a fan of Earl and he has got some good bomb sandwiches! read more

Earl of Diarrhea. I travel on the Turnpike a lot for work and have stopped at this place a couple times and tried a different sandwich every time. All ended in the same end result: me on the toilet. I like the concept of this place and the sandwiches taste pretty good so I decided to give it multiple tries and maybe this is just a bad location but something isn't right about how they handle their food. The service is shit too; not a big deal for a fast food sandwich place though. It would only be courteous for them to set up some Earl of Porta Pottys 10 miles in each direction of this place. read more
