Nick at Earl Scheib Van Nuys charged me $6k in May of 2023, promised to have my car's body and paint work done by October 31st, 2023, and lied. Nick claimed to have changed the email repeatedly and been unable to see requests for photos of progress and receipts for purchased parts or materials demonstrating that work was in progress. I had a tow truck pick up the car (at my expense) in the same condition in December 2023 and a part I had provided was not returned by the shop despite my texting to prepare the car for pick up with the part in the car. Nick further promised to refund the total deposit immediately Dec 13, 2023 and said he would text the receipt. That never happened. It is now Jan 22, 2024 and my credit card company has reported no attempted refund for the charge, I still do not have the original chrome headlight ring I provided for the repair returned, and I have had to send a certified letter to perform (no response to that yet) and now have filed a small claims lawsuit. I own classic muscle car that I had restored years ago that was in need of some TLC. It had a bent frame and needed some body work to the front end done. I was shopping around for over 6 months looking for an auto body place that wasn't afraid to do frame straightening AND that knew what they were doing. Based on the reviews on Google I decided to go with at Earl Scheib Collision. Upon my first visit I wasn't treated as a customer but as family, they spent a lot of time with me understanding what I needed done and took time to look over the car, in detail. Nick helped make me feel comfortable about fixing my car and they were very thorough with sharing cases that were similar where they were able to fix bent frames in the past. I decided to give them a shot. Not only did they get the frame back to factory they went above and beyond to make sure that the look of my classic muscle car was restored. I was referred to Earl Scheib body shop at first I was a little reluctant but speaking with the owner I move forward with my 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser I was already dealing with a body shop out of Pasadena they did OK work but nothing like these guys they are very professional on time guys and girls you know dealing with body shops you drop your car off you may get it back in six months if you're lucky these guys had my car ready in two weeks I added a video to show you, man it looks like glass and trust me when I dropped it off was nothing near what you see. Great experience! I took a Mercedes 380SL in for a full paint job and they delivered exactly what was discussed. The paint was original and very tired, past being able to preserve it so I stripped the ENTIRE exterior from bumper to bumper including all trim. Brought in my 08 benz s class. Promised 2 weeks. It took 5 freaking weeks! Then there were problems after....excess hard tape, overspray, swirl marks. Took it back to fix and late again! And now the hood is full of swirl marks and embedded dust! The garage is so dusty it messed up my paint job! Now i have to fix it myself with a clay bar to smooth out the hood and swirl remover. I paid almost 4 grand for a crappy job that was late. This place is the worst. Maybe they were good years ago. Now theyre trash because these days theyre run by incompetents. DO NOT GET YOUR CAR PAINTED HERE! I cannot put together in a single review how bad my experience was here, and I would do ANYTHING to undo it all and get my money back and never have stepped foot in there in the first place. 1. John is extremely condescending and rude. Spoke to me like I was an idiot, upsold me, didnt deliver, then refused to let me speak to the owner "Elizabeth" that I read about in other reviews. 2. They took my car back to "fix" and "repaint" what was wrong under their "warranty". Except they half assed wet sanded some of the problems out and buffed it. Not fixing ANY of the problems and told me that was "as good as its going to get" and I should not care because "its just a truck". The only thing they resprayed was my Camper shell that they didnt even cover in paint the first time and was still red when I got it back.. Except now it doesnt match the color of the truck. 3. I asked to get the dents out, John paid little attention to what I pointed out, Charged me more money for body work, poorly filled a couple of the dents that you can still see sand marks in, and didnt fix any of the others I pointed out. Told me it would be hundreds of dollars more to fix when I brought it back in. Because they had to repaint it, which I asked for in the first place. Im unhappy with it enough to where I am going to sell my truck, because I cant afford to repaint it elsewhere and I hate seeing how poorly it was done. I spent almost enough money to have a reputable shop paint my truck, and I wish more than anything I took my business somewhere else. Scratched my car real bad, and following the recommendation of Yelp reviewers, I took my car to John. He gave me a fair quote and told me what day it would be done. He did a fantastic job. I have just come from this shop where I was hoping to get an estimate for a small dent in my car. Instead what I got was an incredibly condescending and disrespectful bunch of smart alec and unprofessional remarks from an elderly, overwieght middle eastern man. He said my car will look like a hooker if I only paint over the dent then proceeded to tell me that if I didnt want to pay 1200 dollars to get my entire car painted I could go to the church and pray that God fixes it. He then explained to me that the process of painting my car would be "we spray it, let it dry". When I asked how many coats of paint would be applied he said "I dont know what you talking about, we do one coat, we are not painting a house"...there was a sign that said PAINT YOUR CAR $399, I pointed this out and said well what about that, youre telling me you do 800 dollars worth of body work? he said indeed they did. I can only conclude that this place is unprofessional, incompetent and generally just not concerned as to whether or not they do a good job or even promise to do so. I will tell everyone I know not to come here and that includes you. I will also be lodging a formal complaint with the better business bureau of southern California. I feel extremely upset and frankly just angry that I was treated with such unwarranted hostility. I think that this place is a front for some other type of business perhaps. read more

I chose the base coat & clear coat package to refinish my OEM paint in addition to installing my aftermarket bumper(side note: they did not include the bumper with their warranty because it is a low bumper in addition to my car being "slammed".) I took my mom's 2004 Suzuki XL-7 to Earl Scheib to have the car repainted the factory color. John explained the process to me, and told me what to expect. I've got a 10 year old Earl Scheib paint job on my 1995 Lincoln Towncar and the paint job still looks great! But I wanted to look into the current situation with inexpensive paint jobs of about $600 so I checked out Maaco by visiting them. Maaco had low prices ON THE WALL but they tried to up the price to about $1400! I was not pleased. So I found a location of Earl Scheib in Van Nuys and called them on the phone. The price was also about $600. The manager said I could get that price unless my car needed body work, and he DIDN'T HASSLE ME by trying to RAISE THE PRICE above what I know to be reasonable...about $600 for their most often chosen price upon which they have based their good reputation for many years. Then I checked the yelp.com reviews. Most if not all Maaco locations had many many ONE STAR REVIEWS ON YELP....WHILE SCHEIB HAD MOSTLY 5 STAR REVIEWS THAT APPARENTLY THEY EARNED BY HONEST DEALINGS AND GOOD WORK. So guess to which company I'm choosing to take my Lincoln TC to be repainted??? :o) SCHEIB OF COURSE!!! I'll let you know how they did after I get the TC painted. read more

She explained that this is not how she conducts her business and promised to resolve our issue at no extra cost. The paint job has now been corrected, issues resolved. I wish this would have been the type of service we obtained the first time. All we wanted was to obtain quality service for what we paid for. I've been meaning to get my Nissan Titan pickup truck painted for a while. It is 12 years old, but has low mileage and mechanically it runs great. The main issue was the paint. The clear coat started oxidizing on the roof, the hood and on the sides of the bed. On top of the paint, I had dings on both sides and on the hood in a couple of places. While I wanted to get it fixed, I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg getting it painted. I took it to a local body shop and they told me to head over to Van Nuys Blvd and get estimates from some of the shops heading South from Saticoy to Vanowen. He said shops on the Westside are too expensive and wouldn't be worth it in the long run. After hearing this, I went to three shops and this shop came in with the lowest estimate. I was a little worried, but they had an SUV in the shop that had just been sprayed the same color as my truck and it looked great. I saw where they taped off and took off parts to prevent overspray and I was impressed with the work. I picked up the truck today and it looks great. They did a great job on the body and the paint looks solid overall. I would highly recommend Earl Sheib of Van Nuys and John, the manager, really took care of me and my truck. I am thinking of bringing one of my other cars over there to get painted. read more
