However, today I passed by Tatch Hut and noticed they had a small entree special for $10. I was greeted warmly, and the truck looked clean, so I decided to give it a shot. I went with the jerk chicken and added sides of cabbage, plantains, and peas and rice. The total came to $15, which felt like a better deal than $20. The jerk chicken itself was flavorful and hit the spot. However, the sides didn't quite live up to expectations. They were just okay--not bad, but not great. I'm not sure if it was because they weren't served at the right temperature, but they didn't really impress me. I'd definitely give the jerk chicken another go, but I'd probably skip the sides next time.

The cheese fries were solid. It definitely would have been better eaten fresh but it was still very good. The cheesesteak on the other hand, was delicious. Both my son and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor of it. Yes it was soggy but it did not affect the flavor! I also love something that they make which they definitely put a Venezuelan twist on, but it's something I grew up with where I lived and that is a Patacon. This is essentially a a sandwich with a variety of different filling options, but instead of using bread, you use two deep fried mashed plantains or in simpler terms tostones. It's a really simple dish, but I find that simple dishes are often the hardest to execute correctly and this one hits home every time.
