I agree with Tod M., I think Earls to be quite good for being a chain restaurant. Despite the low ratings, I'm willing to give Earls 4 stars for what they offer. The ambiance is contemporary and somewhat trendy, way better than other chain restaurants like TGIF, Chili's, etc. In terms of the classiness of the decor, it's on par with Cheesecake Factory but with less frou-frou. I really liked "West Coast Prawn Salad with Citrus Honey Vinaigrette" which contains prawns, quinoa, and avocado. So healthy and tasty!! And their spicy shrimp pasta too was pretty good for what it is, but the salad was definitely better. I think people should stop judging chain restaurants. I'm telling you, for the affordable price, quality of the food, and the ambiance, Earls deserves more credit. And yes, I love Cheesecake Factory too. read more

Am I the only one that naturally pulls out their drivers license to show the waiter your over 21 but then remembers that the legal drinking age is 19 here? haha I'm so not used to it. We came here after dinner just to get some drinks. The place was very dim, but a nice spot to have dinner or just hang out. The place wasn't too busy so we were immediately sat at a booth when we came in. We ordered the Paloma, Marilyn Monroe, and Raspberry Mojito. They were all good but wasn't very strong which I guess we didn't mind since we wanted something sweet. But if you wanted that hard liquor taste, you should probably get something else. Can we appreciate that the bathroom signs are figurines in the middle of their door? The ladies bathroom had Wonder Woman and the men's bathroom had Superman which I thought was super cute! We came here around 4:30pm and decided to have an early bite. I ordered the 8oz. Sirloin, it comes with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. When my food came it looked very nice. After I had an bite of my mashed potatoes I noticed it was cold, at first I thought it was in my head so I had my fiancée tried it and he confirmed me I was right. Normally I am not one of those customer who will make a big deal and have my food send back to the kitchen, so I thought I would give the mashed potatoes a couple more tries.. After trying a couple more bite. The mashed potatoes was definitely left over from the lunch time and they reheated it for me and didn't realized it was still cold (it wasn't even lukewarm, it was cold). So I decided to ask the waiter nicely if the mashed potatoes is supposed to be cold, he was very nice and took my plate back to the kitchen. By the time my plate came back, my steak was already cold and they used the same mashed potatoes from the previous plate and reheated it again. I was very disappointed that my steak was cold and the vegetable was cold too it wasn't very enjoyable, the only thing that was warm is the reheated mashed potato. Meatless to say we hurry up finished our food and got our bill, there was no discount on the bill for serving me cold mashed potatoes which turns into a plate of cold meal. I don't think I'll ever come back to this location, the one in Yaletown is much better. read more

Came here for the 9pm happy hour on a weekday evening. We came a but before 9 and let our waitress (Angie? Long blonde hair with British accent) know we were waiting for the drink specials. We got a gin and ginger/gin and tonic. Our waitress asked us what gin we would like, and explained that they offer "Bombay, tanqueray, and something else". She didn't remember the last brand but said that she could check - we said the tanqueray was fine. Drinks were fine, tonic water came in a cute little glass bottle. Ordered another round or 2, with captain Morgan and coke. Upon paying the bill we noticed that the drinks were double the price listed for a highball (3.50). We asked our waitress and she went to check. Apparently the tanqueray and the captain Morgan's weren't included in happy hour highballs. We thought she should've mentioned this as we specifically said we were waiting for happy hour. She went to go speak to the manager again. They reduced the price of our drinks to 3.50, HOWEVER added the price of a tonic water (about 1.75) to all the drinks we ordered. We both noticed but didn't speak up for a third time. However it's unfortunate that they misinformed us and deceptively changed the bill again. Speaks volumes about their management style and how they treat their customers. read more

The sushi was very delicious! I ordered the dynamite and tuna rolls, and my family members ordered fettuccini, the bigger burger and the short rib. The fettuccini was the best item received. If you're a fan of a higher fat meal then the short rib would be for you. The service was good but there wasn't anything really that "wowed" me about this restaurant. read more

Came here yesterday for lunch and had the 7oz sirloin for $24 which included mash potatoes and veggies. I was a little sad with the size of the sirloin when it came out, hoping it would appear a bit bigger, but it does have girth, which doesn't show in the picture. Anyways the entire meal was delicious. The sirloin was phenomenal, I could taste the differences between the outside and inside of the meat. The mash potatoes was buttery and just irresistible and addictive. Heck, even the veggies were amazing too. If it doesn't cost dinner prices, I would definitely come here more often for lunch. Food and service was quick and attentive. It's a pretty big location and conveniently located, so will also be good for groups and drinks also. Can't believe I'm going to give Earls 5 stars, but yes, my experience yesterday was worth of the full 5 stars! read more

Had been to the Earls in Whistler before so we were excited to see this one just a few blocks away from our hotel, The Cascadia. We weren't starving and looking for a full dinner so we split a few appies. We had the calamari, tempura shrimp sushi & prawn tacos. The calamari rings were quite tiny but perfectly cooked. Red onions should be removed as they add nothing to the dish. The tzatziki sauce they serve with it tastes okay but I would prefer and aioli sauce to dip them in. The tempura shrimp sushi was allso okay but I would have liked it to be bigger. Prawn tacos definately the best app. of the 3. Tasty nuggets of shrimp in a warm tortilla with a lime chili dipping sauce. Vodka martini left a lot to be desired. Alexander Keiths IPA no good. Albino Rhino dark ale one of the best beers we have ever drank, and we drink a lot of beers. Nice server (Jason) Will go back again next time we are in Vancouver. read more

Food was good and we were happy to find a restaurant which has a plant based menu as well as a full "standard" menu. However, despite the dining room being very quiet (an entire section was closed off) the service was tremendously slow, waiting 20 mins after ordering to receive our drinks. Pretty disappointing for the prices and considering all of the other competition in the city. Likely won't be returning. read more

Busy busy place! We went on a Friday night around 9. We joined the crowd of people waiting outside, clutching our coaster and praying it would light up. This Earl's has a different vibe than the one on Broadway- that one seems more casual, this one seems sleek and dark. Super skinny waitresses all in black slip through the crowded tables to bring you your food and martinis. They are a little slower on the water refills and non-bar drinks. The alfredo was wonderful- the noodles are at least an inch wide. I love that. The sauce was rich, so save some for lunch tomorrow. The cajun chicken sandwich is great. On a fluffy ciabbata bread roll, the sandwich comes cut into two triangles. I opted to pay more for a side salad over fries, but I was not impressed with the salad. A little lame, the vinaigrette it comes with is pretty weak. I think this is a fun place to stop in during a night of fun. The food was good, but you could also come just to enjoy the drinks. read more

Recommend! We went there for dinner on a Saturday and we got a table for two very quickly. We ordered the 8oz steak with mushroom sauce (+$3.50) and it was delicious. It is one of the best steaks I tried in town. It came with vegetables and mashed potato. This dish was very tasty and the steak really juicy. We also ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. It was really juicy as well and the fries were great. For dessert we had the Warm Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake with Vanilla Gelato. It is a warm dark chocolate pudding cake with a little bit caramel and chocolate on the side, and the Gelato came on a sugary basket. Quite delicious! I am definitely going back and trying other things of the menu because everything that passed our table looked delicious. read more

I don't frequent Earls often but when I do they are on point! This location especially. The servers are wonderful and exceptional at their jobs. Super attentive to their guests needs and always ask how everything is! My mom and I caught Deadpool 2 at the theatre and weren't looking to walk too far for lunch so we settled on Earls as it's familiar and has really versatile food options. We ordered the Dim Sum for an appetizer and shared the fish tacos for our main. Both were absolutely delicious, the dim sum was flavourful with accompanying sauces. They could have been a touch hotter but I'm use to eating them right out off the stove and they're piping. I understand they don't want anyone getting a burnt tongue. The tacos were fantastic - moist, cheesy, crunchy; all the textures you want in a taco. They also came with garlic fries that were very addicting. I couldn't stop eating them. All in all a wonderful meal and we left happy as can be! read more

Tried to order take out, your website says ordering online unavailable, provides a number to call, so I called and received a a message to order online or press 0 to order. When you press 0, you get put on hold for several minutes then another message comes telling me to call back or order online. Attempted calling 3 times, only to be taken through the same loop. Given the times we live in, how can you offer such horrible customer service. read more

So relieved that my second Earls experience at a new location was way better than my first. It's so easy to blow a lot of money here in a short amount of time, but at the end of the day, was worth it. There was a game on that night, and while I wasn't there for that reason, the fact that our booth was the only one that didn't face a single TV, but slightly awkwardly looked out to the rest of the restaurant, was weird. Who designed this place? This location is also a popular place before and after a movie -- which is exactly where we were headed afterward. We had the fruit ale, which was delicious! It's heavy on the grapefruit taste, and was a wonderful first drink but I just couldn't finish my second pint. It was too much grapefruit by that point. We split three appys -- chili chicken, spinach and feta dip and yam fries. Honestly, the best part of all three was the spicy mango dip that came with the yam fries. The chicken, while good, was completely doused in the sauce. The fries were decent and the dip was a bit forgettable. Still, it got the job done in filling us up. I mean, it's basically overpriced bar food. At least the appetizers are. Still, our waitress was awesome, which more than made up for the OK food. read more

I usually don't eat at chain restaurants..I find that the food is only mediocre at best (except Swiss Chalet). I decided to eat at Earls. Maaannnn...I was not disappointed!! I had the Cajun Chicken breast with the warm potato salad & coleslaw accompanied by a cold Kokanee Beer. The food was indescribable good. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Juicy as you'd want it. The warm potato salad was amazing with just the right amount of dill. All in all for sure a 5 star meal! This is a do-over! read more

The food's aight. It's Earls, it is what it is. What I would recommend is their focaccia. You get a ridiculously huge slab, and tearing it bit by bit is oh so satisfying! And it only costs $2.50! Their pasta is ridiculously huge as well...you get 2 meals worth, easy. The atmosphere is decent...comfy chairs, dim lighting...I do like the staircase leading up to the washrooms (but that's about it.) Next time I'm just ordering a huge-ass chunk of focaccia and a glass of wine! read more

Awesome time at Earls! Tried the Big Better Burger and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Size was manageable and not messy and the fries were crisp. I also had a side of gravy which was deliciously made. The only knocked qould be the service was not the greatest. Didnt refill my water and awkward conversation. But i guess i got a newbie in the industry. We were also seated closest to the washroom when tons of tables were available. No one is a fan of washroom table. Earl is a great place for a date ambience is good. Just the staff needs a bit of training. But ill be back and defintiely other items in the menu. read more

Great experience here. I had the pleasure of meeting the general manager while he was doing some walk around. I think his name was Chris? Anyways he was awesome. Food was great, test menu was fun. All around a good experience. It was my first time ever being to this location and I'll definitely be back. Gives an interesting spin on your average Earls. Great food the only fear is the gangs that are roaming around creating fights at the evenings after midnight people from Syria coming in and causing problems and going on for the last two months on the police in the restaurant or do nothing about it so maybe we talked about her and Yelp people frequent this place less and things will improve read more

I don't think you can compare it to "boutique" restaurants, or I'd have to give it only 3 stars. But if we could limit it's category to the type of large comfortable chain it is, then I would be glad to give it 4.5 stars. We were there for a late dinner (9 or 10pm on a Sunday night?). The hamburgers were very very good, along with the side dishes. I liked the menu very much. The drinks were not too weak. We couldn't see the staff well enough to tell if they were the good-looking lot so many others have referred to! It was a very laid back Sunday night mood, and the lights were very low. Lots of Christmas decorations made it very warm. The service was in the average range, nothing impressive but also not annoying. All in all very comfortable and just a bit better than we expected. read more

Hornby location is the best run in my opinion, it's their "test" kitchen and they fire on all cylinders. Good service, and staff make you feel like a guest...and pretty good menu and execution on food, usually. Happy hour is one of the best in the city. read more

I love this location, they have an awesome test kitchen so food changes out a lot. The waiters are great and the food never disappoints. I'm partial to the Marilyn Monroe cocktail as well. My biggest con is that it's always really loud so if you are looking for a quiet date night this isn't your place. read more

We came in as a huge group- We ordered burgers, pizza, tuna poke bowl, linguini dish, Nashville chicken sandwich, a brunch item and a steak entree. Everyone complained within our group that either the food was undercooked or overcooked. The steak was too cooked, especially when you asked for medium, the poached egg came raw and runny when asked to cook all the way, the poke bowl was awful! It was too small of a portion that we were left hungry after that meal! The chicken Nashville burger was salty, linguini had too much sauce and pasta was soggy. And in our group, one person's meal was late that our food was cold:( they did apologize, but that apology did not help the rest of us who were waiting for that one person. Customer service was ok, nothing so special. Never going back EVER! I would rather go to Brown's for their poke bowl which is filling, and offer more for your money! read more

Typical Earls, came for happy hour and this was the closest location. The food was good, prices reasonable and the drinks were decent. A few snits: The place is huge and there were a bunch of empty tables, but we still waited 10-15 minutes to get seated. No clue why. The waitress was quite pleasant, but she auto upgraded my partner's drink from a well highball to a Hendricks double without informing us, and forgot to put in our French fries order. Also this location seem to have a smaller happy hour menu than the other locations. I really like the Leroy crispy ribs, but this location doesn't have it. Otherwise the food and drinks on the Happy Hour was decent as always at any Earls. read more

Earls Ambleside is an obvious choice for take out on a rainy night like tonight. The place was hopping busy but the staff had it all under control. The manager on duty (Emily R) calmly directed the steady flow of customers with confidence and professionalism with awareness to covid protocols and safety for all. First time out with friends since Covid and I was very impressed with the constant cleaning of high touch surfaces, and staff all wearing masks. The service was on point, food was phenomenal! First thing that caught my eye was the cover of the afternoon tea menu. It was red with a picture of Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin printed upon it in a shiny gold colour. When flipped over, it had the menu for the afternoon tea printed upon it. I was super impressed that they even had a separate menu printed for Vegetarians. (I opted for a Vegetarian menu). There was a cute little ceramic jar that was shaped like a Honey pot, and it had sugar cubes in it! Then there was this booklet that was pages long, and divided into Chapters. It was basically the menu again, but in the form of a small book. Each Chapter of the book described different foods from the afternoon tea. The last chapter listed all the different tea flavors one could choose. When we sat down and read this menu, I heard more than one person at the table say that they wanted to take this menu home. Guess what? For the price of $25, one could take this menu home as a memento of this extraordinary afternoon tea? Maybe I'm a bit of a sucker, but how often does one get to go to an afternoon tea as special as this? And I've always been a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh. So I coughed up the $25 and brought one of these menus home with us! Food was sooo good. I loved how warm the scone was when I cut it open. This was one of my favourite items. The sandwiches were amongst my favourites as well. As phenomenal as the experience was, I do think there are a few things which could have improved the experience. For one, a bit more service would have been appreciated. I had to wave my hand in the air to get our server's attention so that I could ask her to refill our tea pots with more hot water. Would have been nice if she'd just come around a bit more often and offered to top it up for us. Tea cozies on our tea pots might have been another improvement. A lot of my tea cooled down by the time I got to it. I like my tea hot but I didn't get in very many cups of hot tea as there was a lot of food to eat and by the time I was ready to pour myself some tea to wash down my food, the tea was...not so hot anymore. Oh, and while most of the food was appropriately sized, there was this one chocolate cookie sandwich that was really gigantic and suggested to be eaten last. We were so full already from all the other foods in the afternoon tea, and then to squeeze that giant cookie sandwich in...right at the end? A smaller and daintier cookie sandwich would have been preferred. It was overall a truly phenomenal experience. Yes, I do think it could have been slightly better, but I do emphasize the word "slightly". The points lost were so minor...I would still highly recommend this afternoon tea to anyone. It was well worth the money. It's offered every weekend for now but not sure how long they'll keep this around so if you're interested in a Winnie the Pooh themed afternoon tea, I'd make a reservation for it ASAP!

The setting is cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Staff was lovely and we were not rushed. Unfortunately they require full payment at the time of booking including a tip % automatically applied. I find this quite distasteful. It is one thing to pay a deposit to secure our spot ....but asking for the tip for a service yet to be provided is terrible. My friend really wanted to go and therefore I agreed to it this one time but I would never do it again.

We ordered the Dark Spell Latte, Albedo Spritz, and Final Word. The Dark Spell Latte is like an espresso martini with chocolate syrup added, which is pretty solid. The Albedo Spritz is a red wine cocktail with hard liquor, and stood out to me as they had 5oz of alcohol so this was fairly strong, but I would imagine most of the ounces came from the wine itself. I liked the gold dusted blackberry. The Final Word is fruity and smoky, which I enjoyed, but not warrant a hefty price tag compared to the other drinks. Service is decent and in line with other restaurant bars. Overall, solid drinks at okay prices that I can see myself recommending this spot. Given the name, it would be great to see more alchemy themed cocktails or decor as what draws me as a frequent bar goer is themed and unique drinks.

Food was good. We went during happy hour and I got their happy hour burger + fries ($16) and a creme brulee ($6). The burger and fries was solid - nothing super amazing, but got the job done! The creme brulee was really good and came at a great price. I like that they have a lot of specials like pasta nights (wish I would've stopped by on those nights!), wine special days, and pizza special days. Service was fine. A little slow, but it was nearing the end of the evening so I'm sure it's quicker when it's more lively!

I started with the dangerous liaison cocktail (beefeater gin, peach, lemon, sugar, butterfly pea flower). This was a solid drink, refreshing and hit the spot. My second drink was spreadsheet (beefeater, st. germain, lime, strawberry syrup, green strawberry bitters). I enjoyed this drink better as it wasn't too sweet and the flavor profile was more to my taste when it comes to cocktails. I'm happy to have found another bar to add to my list of places to grab a good drink in Vancouver.

We ended up waiting around 20 minutes past our reservation time, sitting in a crowded entrance area with many other people also waiting for tables. It left a pretty disappointing first impression, especially when the table had already been booked in advance. The service also felt rushed toward the end. The receipt was brought to us immediately after we finished eating without us asking for it, which gave the impression they wanted to turn the table over as quickly as possible. That said, the lobster poutine was actually very good. The chocolate bonbons, however, were honestly disappointing. Three very small, dry chocolate candies for $15 felt excessive and not worth ordering.

Between the waterfront setting, cozy seating, and heaters, it was a wonderful atmosphere. To start, I ordered a frozen sangria, which is one of my favorite drinks. It was absolutely delicious, perfectly frozen, smooth, and refreshing without being overly sweet. It was garnished with a slice of orange and was one of the better sangrias I've had. The roasted potatoes underneath were delicious, and even the asparagus which I wasn't initially excited about, it worked perfectly with the dish. In fact, I ordered a side kale salad because I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the asparagus, but the entire plate came together beautifully. Every component complemented the others, creating a meal that was both flavorful and satisfying. My son ordered a burger and said it was very good as well. The restaurant does get busy, and there was a short wait when we arrived, but it was only about 10 minutes. We timed it well and were seated fairly quickly. Once seated, the service was excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and kept everything running smoothly despite how busy the restaurant was. Between the waterfront location, comfortable atmosphere, excellent service, and truly exceptional food, this was easily one of the highlights of our Vancouver trip. If I ever find myself back in Vancouver, I will absolutely return. This wasn't just a great meal....it was one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere.

I'm guessing they have a huge pot of Pho and what you get varies depending on how full it is? I wouldn't say that it's bad but, at this price point, I'd like a little more consistency. That goes for other things as well. Out of the four times we ordered a Pho from here, the sprouts were sad and wilted one of the four times. You expect that kind of variance at a place that's half this price point, but not at this price point. If you care about decor or presentation, this is probably the Vietnamese place with the best decor and the best presented food (when it's not wilted). It probably works for business dinners or as a date spot?
