Great customer service an yes they bring out a whole crew!! I've had projects in the past where it took forever and I felt last on the list. Not here! They had me on the schedule ASAP and professionally done from estimation to project timeline and delivery. As we know in Houston we get a lot of rain and French drains and gutters need to direct water to the street. I got straight answers without fluff. In fact they sent pictures so I can have it for my records. Also I had multiple quotes and I believe Mike and his team are the best fit. I met the team and many have been with them for 15 years. I found Earth Ideas on Google and chose them because of the high reviews. Unfortunately I was not provided with the same amazing experience people claim to have gotten. The job was to fix the drainage, lay new sod, make a concrete patio, and extend the walkway. The company did great with the drainage install. Two downspouts were tied to a catch basin tied to an existing french drain they had to fix up quite a bit due to poor builder install. The drain works great. Unfortunately thats the only thing they were good at doing. They laid the sod down quick without even tackling the weeds as I was told in the walk through of the job. Who in their right mind lays down sod at the start of a job? I let it go again. The sod was laid so poorly with many gaps and low spots for water to collect. I am talking highs and lows where one could break an ankle. They made forms for the patio and I asked their foreman if he was going to square things up as the patio would have furniture on it but he ignored me so I called Mike. The message was relayed but nothing was done to fix the issue. They then started to pour the rest of the walkway and it just happened to rain damaging the concrete. Unfortunately I had to call them back to replace the pours but they gave me the run around of how the patio would not be redone as it would cost them too much and how it was in good condition. (Pics attached). They proceeded to tear out the concrete walkway and damaged siding. When they went to re-pour the concrete slabs they couldn't even make 90 degree angles. The lack of care pissed me off. They splashed concrete all over my fence and sides of my white house. That was the final straw and I decided it was time to part ways. The owner and manager luckily did not give me pushback with this. The owner told me they don't even do concrete work. Wish that information was relayed to me before drawing up an invoice and making me sign a contract. The company could be great but lacks communication skills and skilled workers. Don't take on a job you can't do. I bust my ass to make money only to get swindled by people eager to take your money. I could have got drainage done for 1000 and sod for 500 but ended up costing me 3000 plus broken siding(1000 out of my pocket). I also had to contact someone else to complete the concrete work which now included tearing out the piss poor concrete work done by Earth Ideas. In my honest opinion I don't recommend these guys for anything but drainage and that too you can get done cheaper elsewhere. Good luck to those who chose to use these guys. read more

Slow response to my project. Always promising a response. Then no show bc their workers didn't show up.

I had these guys come out early in the week to give me a quote. I explained to them that I needed the job done prior to the weekend. They told me no problem. Later in the week, they called and told me they would not make it out until Monday the following week. Come Monday morning around 9:15 am. I receive a call saying they will not be able to make it because they had 4 employees no show. I called another company and they are coming same day. I made an appointment with this place. They didn't tell me that I had to call them two hours ahead of time or they would just pass up my appointment. I worked all night at the hospital take care of sick children, got home at 8:30 am, and woke up for the appointment. The office lady, Michelle, gave me a lot of attitude that I was just confirming 5 mins before the appointment when I was never told it was a requirement. She said I told you it I was two hours ago. So I don't know if I have an appointment or not but I wouldn't use this place. The customer service even at the beginning is terrible. I decided to just cancel my appointment. We had a Catch Basin put in on the one side of our backyard. The men that came did great work. It was completed in less than six hours and you would never know the work was done! Earth Ideas Landscaping is very helpful and knowledgeable about whatever you might need. I had 2 giant oak trees and one creaked concrete driveway needed to be taken care of. The work crew showed up promptly. They were polite, and always greet me with a smile. I had them removed the cracked concrete slabs from the driveway and filled with gravel instead. They cut my trees branches down, cleaned up all the cut branches, and completed the work efficiently. They made my trees and the driveway look great in just 3 days. The owner of the company and his employees Mike and Daisy were so nice and so easy to communicate with. Over all, this company went above my expectations. I chose Earth Ideas Outdoors for a complete landscape renovation. I called 3 places, one said they were not a good fit, the other never sent me back a quote after the visit. Based on talking with Mike with Earth Ideas I was sold on what he explained to me. It was not a small job, I had all the grass in my entire back and back side yard removed and had landscaping beds put in with rock scape in the center yard and extended the patios and back side yard with pavers. I had the front yard landscape reworked, large shrubs removed and new plantings all around and flagstone stepping stones on the side of the house. Mike worked with me and saw my vision and met with me at the rock yard and the nursery. The large crew at Earth Ideas is A+. They were all very nice and my yard looks fantastic. What an efficient organization. From the moment we called for an estimate to provide drainage from our back porch until completion of work, they were so professional. They showed up exactly when they said they would for the estimate and answered all our questions. As soon as we agreed to do the work, they contacted septic, cable and gas people to mark all lines. The work was done in a few hours(God bless those hard workers out in the scorching sun) and answered follow up questions by phone and email quickly. I did my due diligence in receiving three estimates for my project to remove a rotted wood patio, replace it with a stamped and stained concrete patio, as well as re-grade my back and side yards for natural water draining and adding sod to the mud pit. We had what we at first thought was a foundation problem. Rather than call one of the foundation repair companies, we decided to call an independent engineer to get a better understanding of the problem. His recommendation was to install a root barrier since we have two oak trees in the front yard taking all of the moisture out of the ground instead of jacking up the foundation. He recommended we contact Earth Ideas. We did, and Mike came out and evaluated the situation and mapped out a plan. They provided us with 4 alternatives and prices for each. We decided to go with the root barriers to protect both the foundation and the driveway. The crew came out on Saturday and within 7 hours had dug the trench, installed the barriers, trimmed the oak trees, and sodded the lawn. While they were working, it looked like a mess but after they finished, it looked as if they were never there. We couldn't be happier. Only time will tell if it works. read more

We started this job back in March. First what they did do. The over charged me $400 more than the price we agreed on. They installed six of the seven drains, but they did so incorrectly so there is almost always standing water in the drains. My entire outdoor space is overrun with mosquitoes as a result. They installed my flagstone patio, however it's more gravel than flagstone, so much so it's hard to walk on barefoot. What they didn't do they were supposed to prepare my existing flower beds to get the ready for planting. They removed the existing weeds and plants, but nothing more. No additional soil or prep. They were supposed to create beds in my back along my fence including a plastic sheet between the beds and fence, they didn't. They were supposed to level out my yard and lay sod. They didn't level it at all as there are lots of dips and hills. There idea if the flower bed was to just not lay the sod in the area. I spent over $13k and feel like they didn't do at least 5k of the work unfortunately read more

Mike and his team transformed my backyard. No one used the yard other than the dog a few times a day as it was ugly and covered in dead grass and leaves. I was initially looking to improve drainage and replace the grass with gravel after lots of heavy rain and to keep things low maintenance. Mike gave us lots of ideas on how to make the space usable, aesthetic, and kept our dog in mind. We had a few follow-up meetings/calls with Mike, and throughout the process he was very responsive and receptive to our thoughts. After deciding on the final look, Mike's team came out and completed the project quickly and was sure to keep things clean at the end of both days (despite it being muddy). We were very concerned about our home slab, this is Houston after all. I called Earth Ideas. Their engineer, Mark Haas, used a sophisticated laser to measures our home foundation. I was glad to learn our foundation was fine, but tree we tree planted in 2003 was pulling the moisture from under our garage; however, Earth Ideas had a solution. They suggested a root barrier system, which I researched to my satisfaction. Shortly thereafter, we hired them to install an affordable root barrier system, and commissioned them to install a French drain, and level our flagstone walkway. I'm thrilled to report the entire one day installation process was exceptional. They hand trenched all the necessary areas, and that was hard work! They went above and beyond to accomplish the task, which included work outside of the scope, and cleaned the entire worksite. When they left you would have never known they were there. Earth Ideas did the regrading my back yard. One of the line description on the invoice said: "Existing soils will be re-graded to insure all soils slope away from foundation and fence lines, creating a slight "V" swale across the back yard and down the left site"... Three weeks later after the job done, and after the heavy rain last two weeks, the water "yes" slope to "V" swale and hold back water at my back yard. I tried to contact Earth Ideas and they asked me send them the pictures.... and no one response to me until yesterday when I called them, I got the answer because I did not do the drain systems therefore the regrading could not help. I paid $4,501.00 for regrading my yard and signed the warranty paper that they promised to come back if any issued meant nothing. They did respond back but unfortunately, I was delayed in getting back to them as I had work obligations that superseded my home maintenance. Nevertheless, when I did call back the person answering the phone, Michelle, was very RUDE and condescending. I have many items to address with the most important one being the lack of drainage in my backyard. As I was explaining the situation, she very rudely cut me off and asked what did I want done. I told her I was trying to explain to her what it was was. She condescending asked did I want to have my yard re-graded or drainage install. I told her I didn't know...hence I was contacting the experts to get their advice for the best solution. I didn't mind the 3-week wait for the appointment. We set the appointment, and before I could even provide her with details of the other items I wanted addressed, she HUNG UP ON ME. No, "Thank you for calling, We'll contact you before we come out." My husband and I needed a large dead tree removed from our backyard. I had called around with several different tree companies, and Earth Ideas was the fastest in getting us our estimate. When we called them to schedule a time for the work to be done, originally they said that they wouldn't be able to get it scheduled until a couple of weeks out, but they called us back thirty minutes later and said they would contact us about a faster time...Which was pretty random, but we wanted the tree removed, so we said fine. Fast forward to the next morning, Saturday morning at 8 am, when we received a phone call from Earth Ideas, saying their tree removal service would be at our house in forty minutes to remove the tree. They got it done quickly, efficiently, and removed all the debris and wood chunks. This may seem like a scattered review of service, and admittedly the scheduling process left something to be desired. However, for the price and the professional way that they got the work done, Earth Ideas did a great job. We will be getting in touch with them for any future yard/tree work that we need done. read more

Brian and his supervisor Bernardino did an excellent job installing 2 sump pumps on both sides of the yards due to poor drainage issues and a flat slope. All the work was completed as discussed in one day with 12 crew members working on the job. They had an excellent crew that tied in the rain gutters to the drains and left the yard like nothing had been dug. Did an excellent job cleaning up and making the yard look like nothing happened. Also, checked all the sprinklers to make sure all were in working order. Tested both pumps and all was in working order. Brian did a call back a day later to check to see if everything was good and I told him yes. Would highly recommend Earth Ideas for future drainage work! read more

I chose this company to install a drainage system. Although this company was considerably more expensive than the other two quotes I received, I chose them because of their Warranty. On the day that work was to commence, we received a call stating that they couldn't make it that day. They started the following day. I came home from work on my lunch break to check on the progress, and unfortunately noticed that the layout of the system did not match the quote or the discussion I'd had with the owner. Areas that inches of water would collect, were not addressed by the layout. I discussed my concerns with the foreman; but he informed me that he was not allowed to alter the plans. He told me that I had to talk to the owner, Brian Blalock. I did call Brian, but as I described the concerns I had - he became exceptionally angry and began to yell at me. This issue was a simple fix, in configuring a single drain to address water issues in an area that I personally discussed with Brian. His screaming tirade lasted several minutes. After not being able to communicate with him by phone, I asked him to come in person to see my concerns - hoping that he would not be so abusive in person. I also had to call my husband to come home from work, so that perhaps he would be able to communicate with Brian. We finally came to an agreement, after almost two hours of discussion with Brian, calming him from several angry rages, that he would install a drain to address the water issue. They had severed our marked telephone and marked internet lines - and as concession agreed to install the drain for no additional charge. As a consequence, I missed more than half a day of work. The following day, the system was to be completed. When I checked the work against the quote, there were connections for gutters to the system that not been installed on the south side of the house. The foreman that had worked the job had quit - and no one else spoke English, so I had to call Brian. I was screamed, cursed at, and he threatened legal action against me within a minute. I had to disconnect the call because of his unprofessional behavior and stream of foul language spouting from his mouth. I told the crew - No Check - and asked them to leave as they'd been instructed not to leave without the remainder of the payment. In the end the General Manager came very late in the evening to install the missing connections and lines. He apologized profusely for his boss' behavior, over and over again. In the end we have a system that addresses about 90% of the problem, and a worthless warranty - but I am too scared to call again. There are 3 drains that were placed in positions that were unnecessary. There are still areas that could be better addressed. But I'd rather have some issues, than to have to be cursed out and threatened again. If there is any possibility that some - even minor - issue could arise, please don't chose this company. I did not see the bad reviews that this company had received previously, so I didn't know better. read more

We used Earth Ideas for a pretty major landscaping overhaul of our place in the Heights. Grading, soil replacement, new sod, adding gravel, sprinkler installation, new gate in fence, etc. Their sales rep Mike was very knowledgeable and gave us an itemized written estimate, which we appreciated. Mike showed up every day while his crew was working to check on things, and I even saw him grab a shovel and jump into our muddy ditch to do some of the work himself. We were so happy with the work for the price that we used them again for our next project without getting any other bids.
