so. we just built a home in a rural area. of course we are right in the middle of where T-Mobile, spectrum, att, and vyve all stop and we now live in their cut off areas. I am a full time student, with a job that allows me to work from home if need be, as well as my husband. we do not have cable tv providers, as we use our apps and watch from the smart tv, hence, needing the internet for the tv streaming, work, school, and running the puppy cams during the day to keep an eye on them while away from home.. well not anymore. we were sold a 50gb plan and was told it was plenty of data, that we would have to watch tv day in and out to use it all. we have watched a total of 3 hours of tv in less than 48 hours and have already used almost 10 gb of data.. and we don't renew until April 13??????????? come on!!!! lies lies lies, everything we were told was lies. spoke to someone in customer service this morning about the issue, and she said "we don't even offer 50gb of data anymore, i need to track down who sold you this plan" so, we have been instructed to call another "customer service line" and ask for a refund, to no avail, they cant find us in the system.. but didn't have a problem taking 160.00 to get the whole process started. I am disgusted.. I certainly don't have 160.00 to waste. and I certainly cant go on 50gb of data I would prefer to drive to Denny's and use free Wi-Fi to do homework rather than pay this company any more money. I activated the product Sunday morning.. and I hate it already. I would really like a refund of my money minus the measly 6 gb of data I used and just return the equipment...but!!!!!!!!!!! according to reviews I have been reading all over the place, it seems luck will be needed for that to happen too! read more

Word of advice: DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD #! Had DSL with Earthlink since 2002 with very few problems. DSL $49.95 for a very slow connection: download 1.3Mg, upload 0.24Mg. I called the Customer Service (CS) a couple of times and asked why the slow connection and never got a straight answer. Finally called and canceled the service; got an email confirmation with cancellation # and told that they will keep my $ for the remaining 22 days until the end of the month. Most companies will refund your unused portion of the payment when cancel service; they do not. Now, September 1st, my CC was charged again for $49.95. Called CS again and they did not know why I am being charged for September, but agreed to refund the CC charge and cancel the service again.Very dishonest practices. I had to give them one star because zero wasn't an option. Earthlink has the worst customer service i have ever seen. It is terrible. I wanted to do one thing on an account and it took over 40 minutes and talking to four different people and waiting in between. Meanwhile I had to give the same information over and over to each person I talked to. It was so inefficient and exasperating. Its pathetic that I'm paying for that kind of service, buts even more pathetic how much time and money they are wasting with such a crap system to deal with their customers. There time could have been much more efficiently used to have one person take me through the giant amount of two steps that i needed to have happen, instead of four people and forty minutes. Pathetic, horrible, frustrating. I am looking at other web hosting services right now. Earthlink has terrible customer service, I would recommend that you never give them any money unless you plan on never needing anything from them int he future again. And here's the thing, this is not the first time this has happened to me with earthlink. This is like the fourth time that I've had service this poor. I always get asked how the customer service was for me today, even though every time its bad. We have had an account for 12 + years. They tried doubling our monthly bill. It took my husband several months to get that taken care of. Yesterday they said our storage was full. They blocked our account. I called and could barely understand the guy. He claimed that I had 1100 emails and I was out of space. My computer only showed 250, so I asked him to help me find the other 850, so I could delete them. All he could suggest was for me to spend an extra $1.95 a month for storage. He was rude and tried to add the extra cost 3 more times. This company is now a scam working out of India. read more

Earthlink tried to "STEAL" some of my money when I ask for a refund. They only refunded half of what I paid to get started $100. I called back to raise hell but everybody works there are foreigners who can barely speak English. So they really couldn't understand me!!!!! Two weeks later I finally received my refund cause I kept calling back to REMIND them. "Earthlink" type of internet is for phone only. Because when your 4G runs out in a short period of time-(Only a few days on your computer). then you will have to buy some more data from them for $19.99. I wish I could give them less than one star! Before switching from another ISP, I told the customer service agent I was a heavy internet user averaging 150 GB/month. He recommended the 4G service $55/mo 10Gb limit. I used it for 4 days and reach 80% utilization. I contacted them again and they said I could purchase another 5Gb for $20. WTF! I told them to cancel my account and then magically they had a super-secret cable service available in my area with un-limited data through Comcast. After an auto accident that took out a telephone pole in my front yard, Earthlink left us (two seniors, one disabled) for OVER TWO MONTHS with NO service whatsoever, nor did they even begin to try to repair the problem. I previously had service with a company with similar data and never came close to using all the data. I don't stream videos or do gaming and I conserve data like it's the last drop of water on earth. Some months I would be notified the first day of my new data cycle that my data had run out. They were constantly pushing for me to add more data to my plan. Our experience in San Francisco with Earthlink was a nightmare. Since we switched to earthlink service in March we have had increasing line problems with our DSL connection. The line drops 5 or 6 times a day or more. The outsourced help desk personnel are at a loss to help us and seem incompetent. We have never found anyone who was willing to do more than 'recharge the line'. We are certain we had a bad line and/or a bad modem. We have been overcharged for PC Fine Tune that we specifically refused on sign up and have been charged for it for nine months. We have wasted hours on hold as the staff struggled with the issues. The company dispute resolution or high level technical and billing support is hidden behind layers of recorded phone messages, interminable wait times, and at times hostile employees. I have never had such lack of support from any company. I and my friends had to do all the work in reporting a spoofed account. Earthlink promised, that the address was fixed and not to worry. After the third spoof on my account and changing all my information over I am leaving. I have been with Earthlink since they were Mindspring...right after they started. I would not spend any time or resources in dealing with them. I am closing both my personal and corporate accounts with them. So ive been with earthstink, I mean earthlink for about 5 months and was told that I will be on a trial for 3 months and that it would go up to $43.00 which is very interesting because ive been getting charged $65.00 for internet which is outrageous when im only getting 7 mbps, worst provider ever. And then I was informed that they locked me in a 12 month contract WHICH I NEVER AGREED TO BTW, I believe the sales rep. added that in there. What I was told was that there would be a month to month basis. And i wait sometimes 20-30 minutes for a movie to load that is very very annoying especially when im paying so much. And oh yeah did I mention the customer service was a D..K AND WASNT HELPFUL AT ALL, THEY SUCK AT SPEAKING WITH CUSTOMERS WHICH IS ALSO INTERESTING BECAUSE I COULVE SWORN WERE PAYING YOUR SALERIES HHMMM??? Only dial-up is available at reasonable pricing in my rural area. Earthlink offered a reduced price for 3 months, with a trial of one month with no fee if not satisfied. After receiving their disc in the mail, I tried their service and it was worse than the one I had been using. Two days later, I called to cancel and received a cancellation number. My credit card was charged near the end of my billing period. I expected a refund to my card in the next month's cycle. NO REFUND. After speaking with an operator and her supervisor in India, I was told NO REFUND. Thankfully my credit card company gave me credit for this charge. I would never do business with Earthlink in the future, and would advise everyone to beware. read more

I just wanted some help from the Earthlink Customer service and I got the worst of the worst, you get a charge increase very often on your Time Warner bill for TV cable and Earthlink's internet and when you try to get this resolved and even worst if you try to cancel the service, at the first call you get trowed on talks between Time Warner and Earthlink,s customer service people, when I called my cell phone's battery went dead due to the time they had me on hold, I connected to the charger and spent a total of 2 hours with very disrespectful Earthlink's customer service, for them you never have the correct information they turn your words around and say sorry sr but the information you give me doesn't match your account number and I can not help you and because they are not in front of you some even have the guts to yell at you, to me this is a great scam if you ask me. The result? I called back to Time Warner told them that my original service contract was between them and me, that I wanted nothing to do with Earthlink and want them to just cancel my service with Time Warner and Earthlink at once. I told all of my friends about this, so far four of them that have the same service I had run thrugh the same situation and Gess what? Those four customers that Earthlink and Time Warner had for years, they have them no more. They deserve No Stars at all, but un deservable at list one has to be given. read more

Our organization has been with Earthlink for a couple years, mainly due to lack of other options for business, within our area. Earthlink has several large outages per year, which greatly impact any business. Attempting to get support is very difficult and usually results in hours of time on hold. If I could give Earthlink minus 5 stars, I would. Beware - then avoid Earthlink at all times. It is a dishonest, cheesy and unethical corporation. The employees will lie about all customer issues. Every single one of their departments re-directs you to a call center in India, the sales and so-called customer support, the whole corporation. You will never get a decent human on the phone, or anyone who will give you a straight answer or deal honestly. Your initial call to even get service will earn you a roundabout voice mail hell of at least 15 minutes, pressing various numbers. Even then, there's no guarantee you'll get a human on the phone - certainly not one who speaks English and can perform any function without reading from a robo-script. And that is as good as it will ever get; don't expect more, or you will be disappointed and angered and kick yourself for ever signing up with this shill of a company. There is no way to connect to anyone within Earthlink in the United States - no one to talk in their Atlanta HQ - just the India black hole. The sales rep we dealt with straight up lied about the service, the equipment, the terms - all of it. When we discovered this, it was too late and we were locked into what was a 12 month crappy plan, with a crappy AT&T modem that cuts out all the time and which we cannot replace with one of our own. I specifally asked when ordering the internet only service if we could buy our own modem/router and return the one supplied by Earthlink. I was told "Oh, yes, certainly." Flat out lie. Ask to speak with a supervisor and the India call center disconnects you (call back and it's a 20 minute wait, minimum, with the same result). Ask to speak with someone, anyone in the U.S., and the India call center will disconnect you. WARNING: Earthlink is now partnering with AT&T for DSL and with Comcast for cable. If you thought you'd been put through the wringer with either or both of those corporations in the past, JUST WAIT - IT GETS MUCH WORSE with Earthlink now. Another level of Dante's Inferno. I terminated my service in march 2012 after being a customer for 10 years. They offered me a courtesy 90 day no charge extension. I declined that offer but I was denied the declination. Whatever, if you want to keep my account open when I don't need it , your problem is what I was thinking. In that time f fame I kept getting email notifications that they were charging my cc account. The first couple time I received these notifications I called them and after 30 minutes waiting I would connect to someone in India named Patrick or Andrew who woul assure me that the emails were just an accounting thing but that my card was not being charged. Checking on my cc Ccount on line showed no charges so I took my defenses down. I had other things take precedence (death in the family) that took my attention off this after a couple months and this week I was looking at my cc account and noticed they have been charging my credit card again. After calling them. They agree that I canceled my account and don't understand why I was charged over the past year but all they can do is give me credit for 2 months. I called my cc company and they have credited over a disputed charge the lastn6 months, so I'll be out about $120 but that is not that big a deal if I can warn others about the captive trade practices of this company. read more

I've been with them since 1999, I recently changed to Time Warner and cancelled earthlink after my son showed me how I was paying just as much for crappy service with tiny bandwidth as I could for mediocre service with huge bandwidth and get rid of my phone bill (and AT&T) . The earthlink agent I spoke to said since I had just been billed a few days before, I would receive a prorated refund. Fast forward a few weeks, no refund. I called and was told there was no record that I was told I'd get a refund, the agent repeated this to me several times in a very accusatory tone, like I was a liar. After calling him on this, he said he's give me a 50% refund for the less than 25% of the services I used. Had he not insinuated that I was lying, I probably would have let it go, but after 15 years of being a customer to call me a liar just set me off. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she proceeded to tell me there was no record of my being told I would get a refund- again calling me a liar. After threatening to dispute the charge with my bank and explaining they could give me my proper refund or they would get nothing, I won. I wouldn't recommend earthlink to someone I hated read more

I ordered internet with Earthlink. I received their package and it didn't work. I was told that if I was unsatisfied or if it didn't work I could send it back and I would not be charged as long as it was within a certain time limit (30days). I received it and it didn't work so I sent it back. It took three phone calls just to get them to send me the return label. Then I was told they were only going to refund a portion and they were charging me for shipping. At this point I just wanted out so I said fine. I have placed another four phone calls to them and have spoken to two supervisors and have as of now not been refunded a penny. They have just charged my card again so not only are they not refunding me I cannot get them to cancel my account and stop charging me. Everyone I speak to there says they are canceling my account and that I will be refunded but it never happens. I just want to get my back and get away from this company. On 05/06/14 I called customer service regarding my Earthlink account. Back on 04/17 I had called to have my internet service switched from Time Warner to Earthlink for an introductory rate of 29.95/month. Since I was an existing Time Warner customer, there was no equipment to change and not installation was needed. This was all confirmed. The switch was supposed to have happened right then, over the phone, and that is what I was told did happen. On 05/06/14 I rec'd a Time Warner bill for their rate of $72.00. I called Earthlink questioning why I was receiving a bill from Time Warner. It turns out, my service was never changed. For the most part, Earthlink's customer service was nothing short of atrocious. I wish their were stronger words. It was truly the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I was transferred from department to department numerous times. The customer service representatives generally did not listen to anything explained, communicated poorly with me and with each other, and were a particularly egregious group that reflect very poorly upon your company. It is no wonder Earthlink's reputation for customer service is so incredibly poor. To be fair, Francisco, in the technical department, was helpful, competent, and did fix the issue he was able to; being the failure of previous employees to switch my service. From there it was abhorrent. Roger, in customer service, was disagreeable, argumentative, and rude. He was the first customer service rep I have ever had shout over me while I tried to explain my issue. After repeated demands, I spoke to his supervisor, Philip. Philip was apologetic and promised to "coach" his underling, but he failed to listen, comprehend, or fix anything. He transferred me to Shawn, I think in billing. Shawn was more of the same customer service ineptitude. When he showed the same shortcomings as the previous individuals, I demanded to speak to his supervisor. He was resistant and, as one would expect, argumentative. At long last, after repeated demands, I was put on the phone with his supervisor, Eva. She claimed to be the pinnacle of Earthlink authority and certainly represented a pinnacle of customer service ineptitude. She also pledged to coach her underling and then promptly outdid him the obnoxious SOB department. After failing to understand anything said (a call center with fluent English speakers might do wonders for your reputation) she tried to brush me off back to technical. This time, I'm not sure why, she stayed on the line after I was transferred. The individual I was then transferred to, whose name I did not get, actually did understand that my issue was not with the technical department as that problem had been fixed. What I was looking for was for Earthlink to credit me for that balance I was being billed due to their mistake. Remember when companies used to stand by their service and own up to and rectify their mistakes in the name of customer service. I guess those days really are gone. Even so, this was over the top. They don't even to pretend to give a shit. Anyway, between myself and a that lonely technical representative, Eva could not wrap her head around any of this. She, true to what seems to be the prevailing culture, became belligerent and argumentative. At one point this other individual even said "you can't address a customer that way." She refused to put on her supervisor and refused to provide contact information to reach her supervisor with a complaint regarding her grossly inappropriate and unprofessional conduct. Needless to say, my short time as an Earthlink customer has not been a good experience. I can not recommend your company to anyone in good conscience. I have already relayed this story to several people who I can safely say will not be contacting you to switch service. I will be telling everyone I can what they can expect from Earthlink as far as customer service. I will be adding to the plethora of negative accounts of Earthlink's customer service. read more

I made the mistake of not paying attention to the reviews n this site thinking somehow my experience would be different. They continually charged my card for double, sometimes triple, the amount my bill was for. It seemed that every month my debit card was being refunded by them. I canceled my account and they charged my account 182 dollars. I moved to a new address where earthlink did not operate and for 3 months they charged my account for a service I canceled and refused to refund me almost $300 for that time. What makes me furious is that my bill was supposed to be 39.95 a month so I do not know why I would be charged 90 something dollars a month any way. Not only did they charge me a cancellation fee they continued to bill me for 3 months afterward for a rate that was 3 times what it was supposed to be on top of the previous months where they charged me too much and had to refund me. I filed a fraud case through my bank against them. As many negative stars as they can shove up their A*%. Had to put a stop payment order on my debit card to stop them from stealing my money. I am really shocked at this stuff never had this happen before. read more
