Earthlink adopted a new "antispam" policy. It blocks IP from which suspected spam came. (Instead of delivering mails them to the suspected spam folder). As a result incoming legit emails were blocked, more and more. Now I rarely get any email, usually with big delay. Their support sucks horribly. First they tell me "I am glad to help you", then read idiotic lines from the script, like "send rejected message information to the technical team, and they will unblock their IP." Of course I cannot know when I did not get email. I used to get emails from many people, now almost never get any. With exception of plentiful spam as before. When I managed to talk to supervisor, possibly in USA, they said they cannot make an exception for me to remove this malicious "filter". Earthlink got acquired for one billion dollars by another corporation. Is it a new style of technical management? From the frontpage of Earthlink: "EarthLink is committed to protecting our customers from spam and viruses. EarthLink blocks IP addresses once they have been associated with spam." "This may result in the refusal of some email that is wanted and/or expected by you. Please understand that we cannot make exceptions for individual senders or EarthLink accounts in that situation, but we will accept requests to remove the block. These requests must contain the bounce message received by the sender, so unblock requests are best submitted by the owner of the server, or the sender of the original email message. " read more

When it works it works. When it doesn't, clear your schedule because you will be spending many hours calling tech support ( surprise it's routed to a random Pacific Asian country; ask them if it's monsoon season and they will talk your ear off, bemoaning it; hilarity!). They will give you expert tech service, such as 'reboot the modem, reinstall the software, can you load the internet now? No? Oh, uh ok.' Level 2 is when they repeat that scripted excuse that AT&T phone service is upgrading the upstate NY network (considering you use Verizon, and live in NYC), and WILL BE UP by tomorrow, definitely! Maybe after 10 calls you will be declared a "Level 3" to make you feel special, and someone will call you back, do a quick diagnostic, then tell you what you already knew; your modem shorted out, the same week that the contract expired. As always Earthlink's offshore based web hosting tech support rates 1/2 star out of 5 - not even a 1. First: I sent a certified letter of complaint to EARTHLINK's CEO: Joseph F. Eazor and the CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY in Washington DC regarding our Earthlink web hosting problem that started in Jan. 2014. I am still waiting for a response from Eazor 6 months later. If Earthlink's CEO (his staff) is non-responsive to customers then one can assume his staff including web hosting tech support will care less about customers as well. I guess it's: Give me your money - I earn millions of dollars in bonuses per month - you don't complain. I did. Results of my complaints: First we forced Earthlink to refund 5 months of fees for my small business web hosting loss. But we are still assessing other losses to our small business. Technology is a precise science. Precise and exact explanations along with clear solutions to web hosting technical problems (hardware related) are rarely provided by EARTHLINK's web hosting offshore technicians. Their English is very poor. They don't understand a technical problem when presented to them clearly written in English because a huge majority of them appear to not properly understand nor speak English fluently, nor do they seem to really know technology. And they refuse to say I don't know. Which is the most INSULTING! These off shore tech support people close "open trouble tickets" and make you look like the fool for calling in and complaining. Thus the attitude from top to bottom it seems. They close a ticket - that's it - go away - and pay us. Well I proved that for at least 5 months Earthlink's web hosting technical support was wrong and incompetent within a 9 page, clearly laid out, Earthlink web hosting problems report. Earthlink was forced to refund 5 months of fees for their technical negligence thus far - a small amount of our small business' revenue losses. Earthlink web hosting should train or recruit native English speakers or others fluent in English who can read technical problems spelled out clearly in English. Earthlink's off shore web hosting tech support is able to fool their Earthlink American outsourcers in Atlanta into thinking they can breath, eat and speak technology. Earthlink hears something that sounds like technology knowledge coming from their mouths but the savings from outsourcing totally blinds Earthlink to the fact this level of service is INFERIOR to what Americans of all generations have come to expect from an American company. And we should not have to live down to these outsourced nation's level of false excellence. Earthlink should be ashamed of the level of mediocrity. Again my open tickets for hardware support for our small business website lasted for 5 months - resulting in loss revenue. And every technical thing I asked Earthlink to correct from day 1 was correct when they got around to correcting the issue at the end of month 5. I love it when I don't receive an itemized invoice of the calls I made so I can't dispute my monthly $500 bill. It's so cool when I call customer service and I upgrade my plan on February 24 from 1500 minutes to 2400 minutes and it doesn't become effective until May 12. Another great feature of this service is how long I am put on hold when I call customer service. There is nothing like using my minutes towards disputing my bills and begging for a detailed report of my usage and never receiving one after I have asked twelve times. Been having a problem with their system, they said they would send someone out to check the system. They tested and that it was good. There is no connectivity to the internet, so how can it be good. Talked to numerous call center representatives to no avail. Asked for a supervisor and was put on hold, waited for over 20 minutes and had to hang up. Requested to have them cancel said owed for service, told them have confirmations for those, not for $1.00 they don't want to cancel service? Said it would be paid, but want to cancel and a confirmation for it, they tried telling about all different deals. What don't they get? Hello Everyone, Earthlink is now using Verizon in the Venice area. They are offering a (lie) free - 30 day guaranteed (lie) free trial for a free standing DSL service for $40 per month. I signed up for this service and thought that I would save money, seeing as everyone else is offering internet for $60 per month. First, they sent me a modem that wasn't working. The DSL light never came on. Next, they called Verizon to check my phone lines. (All was well.) Then, they said that I had to pay shipping and handling charges beginning at $20 for a new modem. "What about the guaranteed free-trial?" "Oh, you misunderstood." "Well, I want to cancel my service then." "Yes, but you will be charged "147.00." "But you said that it was a free 30-day guarantee trial." "You misunderstood." "We said that it was free for the first 30 days and you won't be locked into a year contract." After 30 days, you will be locked into a contract. "Let me talk to a supervisor." "Yes, Ma'm, could you please hold......" And I never heard anything again. These people are located mostly in India. They are scammers, liars, and thieves. I am not speaking of the culture, I am speaking about Earthlink employees. So, now I have a modem that doesn't work. Don't give out your bank checking account number, because it's harder to change that all around. Change your account and then cancel. I will still try to call Atlanta headquarters and get a hold of someone. One woman got some of her money back but had to file numerous complaints. I'm still trying to talk to a supervisor. I would rate less than one star if possible. Horrible customer service. Earthlink billed me three weeks out from installation, and never showed up for the scheduled installation date. NO SHOW, and NO CALL. I called at 10:50 am to find out when the technician would arrive. The representative assured me they would be there by noon. I called back at noon and was told they can't provide service in my area. WTH! They sure didn't have any problems charging my credit card. I have been a customer of EarthLink for over 9 years. Paid my bill each month, but last month I went on vacation and the bill was late. The calls started coming, 6:30 AM, 7:00 AM etc. Daily. I paid the bill on 8/21/14 of $36.99 with my electronic bank service. After 9 years of being with them, they treated me like a deadbeat. In total frustration, I cancelled my service with them due to the outrageous amount of phone calls made from India. I made arrangements to keep my email address as I just had business stationary printed with it. I told the representative that I would pay for a year in advance in order to not have problems as I changed my email address. I was told I would have to pay $79.80 for a year and $4.00 for a paper bill. The rep told me to wait for the bill and I had to make several calls to get that done, but the bill arrived 8/30/14 and I sent a check to EarthLink on 8/31/14. On Sept 1, I get ANOTHER phone call telling me my payment of $83.80 was late. Per the bill, the payment wasn't due until 9/14/14!!!! I, unlike other people never had a problem with their service and would still be with them except for the collection techniques used. I do not need this kind of harassment when I always pay my bills. I do not recommend EarthLink due to their rotten billing practices, it just takes too much time and energy. Life is just too short to put up with such outrageous collection techniques. For nearly a month I have had a problem with Earthlink bouncing my email replays back to me as "sent spam." I have spent hours on the phone, went through the escalation process, all to no avail and the past few weeks of emails telling them the problem still exists is ignored, not even a comment from Earthlink. Hello, I am emailing you today, to inform you of the poor Customer Service this company has displayed. Originally, my fiancé & I were very excited about becoming a customers with Earth Link, but after the experienced we have we won't nor will we recommend anyone. When my fiancé spoke to a rep from your company & pre-paid to has an installation service done. Your rep told him no one could come out for 2 weeks. So when we finally arranged the service installation date & making the necessary adjusts to our schedule to be present on Monday, March 19, 2018 between the hours of 12pm-4pm. Some how no one ever showed up? My fiancé, Kenneth talked to a rep from your company around 2:30pm that day & the rep notified him that someone would be out by 4pm. After 4:15pm and no one still haven't shown up, Kenneth called Earth Link to verify the appt & express his concerns of why the tech hadn't shown up yet. Within the course of the conversation, the rep told him 1st that someone came to our residence and no once answered. Then shortly after stated that the tech came & we refused to have him do the service. I literally took off work to have your internet installed & why we would refused the service when we had already paid for it. After being on the phone for more than an hour, the rep (Carol) stated several times there was nothing she could do but reschedule, in which this was unacceptable & not being concerned or empathetic of our time & money we already spent. Tried Earthlink Hyperlink for a mere week and it was a bad experience from day 2. First off, the sales rep told me over chat the incorrect installation price and I had to talk to two different representatives to get the quoted price which I was told would be refunded over the span of 3 months. Well they knew what they were doing because the service is absolutely horrible and I will never keep it for the span of three months. I've had it for one week and I'm done. I chatted and called tech support 5 times altogether. I was told I'd get speeds of 12 mbps but really that meant only 80% of that (seriously?), well, I was regularly getting less than 1 mbps. I would call, they would ask me to turn off the modem, restart the computer (eye roll), 'clear' their lines, and the speed would go up to 12 mbps. Immediately after ending the call the speed would be back down to less than 1. This happened twice in one day while only trying to use one device. Imagine a regular day when my husband is streaming Netflix, my daughter is gaming, and I'm listening to Pandora. I called to cancel, the process took 15 mins and I was initially told my monthly charge wouldn't be refunded although she eventually agreed to refund the $32.37. I'm still out the $69.99 install fee for a service I had for about a week and was abysmal the entire time, plus the time dealing with the install and customer service. At no time was the sales rep upfront about the actual speed I would get or that this would be using AT&T DSL lines (which I had tried before and knew was very slow) and gave me misinformation on top of that (I'll never see the refund for the difference in price on the install fee I was quoted). If anyone out there is thinking about using Earthlink--DON'T DO IT!!! read more

The "Customer service" department is the worst. I'm pretty sure I'm calling out of the country because every time it's someone with an Indian/Middle Eastern accent but it's not just that I can hardly understand them and they don't understand anything I'm saying to them.Complete incompetence, complete lack of understanding, zero Customer service. They took every piece of information I gave them when I initially set up my account and input it into their system wrong and incorrectly. They had no problem charging my account for months. One day I needed help I needed to update my account information to continue paying them and because they had taken pieces of information incorrectly from me initially ( their own incompetence) refused to help me and refuses to take my payment. They did not care that the mistake was on there end, they did not care to try to resolve the issue. not one time would anyone allowed me to speak to a supervisor or a manager it was totally insane I have never in my life seen something so ridiculous. I ended the call with so let me just confirm I can no longer continue services with you there's nothing that you can do to help me and I just should just end this service and go get service with someone else. The "customer service" representative said yes that's correct. I hung up and immediately set up U-verse with AT&T within five minutes. Why would any employee be allowed to keep their job without trying to retain customers and make sure they continue membership of customers who are paying and current. I can bet that same employee has complained about the minimum amount of hourly pay he gets. I will never use EarthLink again in my life and I will never recommend it. Update to my review of July 10. When I signed up my mom for Earthlink, I made the mistake of giving them my cell number. Now that we have cancelled the service, she is getting telemarketing calls on my cell number. Apparently Earthlink will sell your data to telemarketers after you cancel your service. So if you do make the mistake of signing up with them and then plan to cancel, make sure that you first change your phone number in their record, to the phone number of someone you don't like, so they get the telemarketing calls. :-) My rating stays at 1 star. read more

AWFUL customer services, spoke with 4 different people continued to transfer me to different departments. Yeah Right! This is like watching a Discover Card commercial and getting Peggy over and over! Except this is not funny, who has the whole day to be on the phone like this for over an hour! Got transferred again to a customer service survey then it hung up on me!!! I had to call back only to start this awful process all over again! I got Pushpa again and she was going to transfer me again! I am sure none of these people I am speaking with are from US they must be from India, with American names Joe, Edward, Pushpa and Mark. All very rude! How can it be so hard to cancel this account! Earthlink internet Cancellation Bait and Switch. I contacted Earthlink support in November 2013 to cancel my account - I was no longer using the web email. I was told it would be cancelled, then offered one free month as a courtesy to allow emails to be redirected. What I was NOT TOLD (fraudulent) was that by accepting the free month I was AGREEING to continue service, even though I had requested my service to be cancelled. In April 2014 I checked my credit card charges and saw I was still being charged for Earthlink. I called Earthlink support, was told my account was STILL ACTIVE. The support person would cancel my service then, give 2 months refund, that was all. I refused to accept the settlement and promptly ended the call, then filed complaints with the BBB and Georgia attorney general's office. Now waiting to hear the outcome. Earthlink clearly is engaged in dishonest and fraudulent business practices that prey on the elderly, less educated, and vulnerable in our society. This is despicable corporate behavior and Earthlink leadership should be ashamed. be afraid, be very afraid....I called Earthlink to set up service but their English was so very bad I couldnt place the order, I just couldnt not understand them, and I usually do pretty well with Indian cs reps. I called back a few days later, Sept. and they have cs reps in guatamala as well , who are much easier to understand. I placed my order for home wifi (internet) with self install, meaning they ship the wifi router to me and I install it, pretty easy. They explained that TWC does their billing, I was already aware of that but Earthlink provides the service and troublehsooting. all well and good. my order was placed 9/24, and my card was charged 103.21. on 9/26 I received a router from Time Warner Cable, strange but theyre partners of sorts so I installed and activated, bam internet! next day I got another wifi router from Earthlink.... red flag, went to my online banking and there were 2 charges, one from TWC for the correct amount stated to me upon placing my order of 103.21, AND one from Earthlink for 118.38! I immediately called Earthlink and it was a fiasco. They said the amount was correct, I needed BOTH routers for my service, WRONG! I couldnt return the dupliacte nor get a refund.... now I'm livid. I called again and asked for a supervisor, got the same song and dance , so I kept calling til someone in Guatemala answered and stated they would send a return shipping label to send back the duplicate router. I waited 2 weeks and called back multiple times to no avail. they had to track the return shipping label sent to me..... argh! I finally after 3 weeks received the return shipping label, returned it and tracked that it was received. called Earthlink again, sigh, no refund, none could be processed because I didnt send the REBATE coupons? I kep calling til I got a supervisor in Guatemala, they said a refund of 21.60 and 7.95 were all I was going to get. I called TWC as they do the billing for Earthlink, they can't help me because all they can see is that I have their equipment and the one charge for 103.21 on my account. Call Earthlink. I did that today, i demanded my money after they verified the router was in fact returned. A supervisor, Amanda in Hyderabad India, stated I received all the refunds I'm entitled to. I made hher tell me what the American Coprorate address is and also the phone number. This is the third day our company has been without internet service. I call your company & I'm routed to your India call center. I get promised a return call & prompt service & have received neither. When will my company have our internet service working again? It is downright criminal to lock a customer into a contract when you are not capable of providing reliable service. For about two weeks, Earthlink has been sending me messages telling me my space is full and the bar to the top left has shown me 99 per cent full. It is now full and I cannot receive any emails at all. I have gone through deleting everything possible but the emails in suspect email will not delete; there are almost 2000 of them. I have called Earthlink customer suppor for 4 days and customer support tells me it is a "level 2 problem" and they will call me within 24 hours; no call of course. When I called yesterday, there were nonstop messages of offers and I could not even get through to the customer support to even be put on hold. What is going on? We noticed monthly charges from Earthlink on our credit card bill, for antiquated dial-up internet service --- not something you need if you have a Comcast cable modem! After four long calls to Earthlink "customer service" (obviously off-shore, with poor voice quality), none of their CSR's or supervisors could find the mysterious account -- even with our phone number, address, full name, etc. etc. Earthlink's Accounting Dept. clearly knows where to bill us -- but their Customer Service can't find us! We disputed the charges with Amex, so Earthlink started to send us paper invoices -- with the missing account number! Problem solved? No! Earthlink Customer Service STILL couldn't find or diable the account, even with the account number! To make matters worse, their offshore customer support team -- including four 'supervisors' -- could offer no suggestions. No options, no escalation, no phone number in the U.S. to call. Talk about shallow "Customer Service"! I tried to find a direct number or address on Earthlink's website. Nope! B-L-O-W-S Never ever ever use Earthlink. There are so many other alternatives to this sad company. One, you have to pay them. For what exactly? They blast ads all over their site and your email account as badly if not worse than many other free services. I've been an Earthlink web hosting customer since the era when the company operated in a competent fashion. That era is long past. Earthlink's primary objective in dealing with me this week has been to sabotage my business. Several days ago, I became the target of a phishing attack. A competent, ethical web host would contact its long-standing customer so that they could work together to resolve the problem. Earthlink decided instead to disable my email "because of evidence messages contained fraudulent content." So it makes a unilateral and baseless decision to sabotage my account and hurls defamatory language at me for good measure. I'm surprised they didn't throw in some cheap jokes about my mother while they were at it--they'd already stooped to a demonstration of complete disrespect. But the demonstration of complete incompetence was still to come. Earthlink's unwarranted sabotage of my account occurred more than 24 hours ago. I contacted the company immediately and was told that it would expedite the re-institution of my account. Now, 24 hours later, I am told that the company intends to prolong its sabotage for another 24 to 48 hours, despite its having been informed repeatedly that this is a business account, that I am a sole proprietor, and that the company is preventing me from doing my work. I've also been informed that the account sabotage was accomplished automatically--that this was a decision made by Earthlink's system, which is set up to prevent employees from intervening. So if you use Earthlink, be aware that the system may decide at any moment to disable your email access for no valid reason; that you will be insulted when you are informed retroactively of this action by Earthlink's system; and that once the system has accomplished its sabotage, you can expect the company's wholly unsympathetic and indifferent employees to prolong the problem for as long as three days. By these actions, Earthlink makes its contempt for its customers all too clear. I've gotten the message and am taking my business to a company that adheres to higher standards of ethics and competency. read more

My second month of service started with my account not being refreshed after reaching my data limit the day before billing.After a few calls of holding with different EarthLink reps, I was reassured that a tech rep would call me in two hours. - I found the hard way that "we will call you" means "we're screwing you over" in Hindglish or whatever their reps speak. Anxiously after 48 hours of waiting fruitlessly for a tech call I called and demanded a tech rep as previously promised. Thank you to Andrew for his proficiency in English and his tech support in 4G data competency. I recommend any calls to customer service skip the scripted repertoires of the reps and ask for one of two service departments: the CEO Joe Eazor or Andrew in Tech support. read more

First of all let me just start out by saying that Earthlink doesn't deserve 1 star. Lets begin with the customer service. By the time my grandmother gets to the top of Mount Everest, you still won't get an answer on their customer service (Of course someone will immediately pick up if you want to BUY something, but if its anything with your account they couldn't give a crap they just want your money). That just scratches the surface for their customer service. Now lets talk about their DSL service. Would give zero stars if possible for their web-based e-mail service (webmail.earthlink.com). In recent years it has grown increasingly slow when I try to log in, retrieve-mails or navigate through my folders. In the past few months the slow-downs have become longer. Last month there were 2 occasions when Earthlink webmail was completely inaccessible for periods of 5-6 hours each time. For as long as these performance issues have persisted you'd think Earthlink would have addressed them by now. Not so. The problem is I've had Earthlink since 1995 and I have a zillion online accounts that I log into using my Earthlink e-mail address. It would be a royal pain to find them all and change them if I get a new address. But if Earthlink webmail's performance continues its molassass-like trend, I'm sure one day my fed-up factor will prompt me to abandon it once and for all. As a former Employee of EarthLink in the days of Garry Betty (RIP), I'm sad to see EarthLink give up on it's Consumers when it comes to service. I've had an account with EarthLink since 1995... I worked there from 1996 to 2007 when 900 employees where laid off and Pasadena was mothballed. That Datacenter in Pasadena was by far superior than the Atlanta DC, but then operations were moving to Atlanta. (reflecting back the Mindspring acquisition was the death nail for EarthLink, and in comes Rolla Huff after Garry's death...it is what it is, but it is not what it was..) Truth is, EarthLink's consumer products died because the RBOC know how to play the long game, being in business as long as AT&T has been, you learn to have a much longer vision than that of the upstarts in the "tech sector." Don't push Ol'MaBell around, she will kick your butt when you're not looking! But I'm on a tangent. I was one of many that worked on the EarthLink Voice product. We rolled that product out, with Steve Howe at the helm, in 9 months. I cut the deals with voice software and hardware providers and even worked on the CALEA solutions. So I know what was originally put in place. And I doubt much has changed. And I also know "support" is provided by an overseas firm. Today I spent 45 mins with "support" to only be dropped in my third transfer... So if you have VoIP you know that if you move, you need to update your physical address. Now as I was one of the people working on the VoIP roll out, I have an older account attached to an ATA device. So moving my phone is as easy as unplugging a small box and plugging it back into my new router... As I write this, I'm attempting to use EarthLink's Online Chat to accomplish this major task. Lisa Green is providing the support through (sales).liveperson.(net)... We shall see if we get the same answer they gave me on the phone. I was told on the phone, that I could not make the change, as they "do not support it.." I'm not sure what "it" refers to, but... Now I wonder if there is an issue with the PSAP, which if it is, is likely an issue with Level 3 and EarthLink. The PSAP for those that don't know, are the Public Safety Answering Point. The PSAP needs to be properly connected to the EarthLink voice network (which is Level3 underneath on the SIP side; or it was when I was there). The PSAP takes a data feed from the voice network to determine the location of the caller (landline) this allows them to dispatch help without the caller needing to provide the address, which happens from time to time. (but because I don't know for sure if this is a PSAP issue, I need EarthLink to tell me what they can do... if they really can't support E911, then I'll need to port the number to AT&T; which I don't really want to do, but will need to... my last connection to EarthLink will be gone... truly sad.) So our on line chat continues.... And Lisa just asked me to confirm that I have moved from Address A to Address Z... Now I'm being transferred to Joel P... a Customer Service Rep. Joel's cut and paste skills or typing skills are not that good... my hope of this being fixed are on a decline... Joel P is renewing my hope by asking me, to again, confirm my current address... btw, I'm now 90 minutes in... 45 mins on the phone... now 45 mins with Chat Support... but the clock is still ticking.... Joel P says he is now trying to update my address for e911... DARN, Hopes dashed on the rocks. Despair! Joel P just said he can't do it... he says he needs to escalate, and is sending me back to Tech Support... but wait, that's just where I was... Argh... Now I have Robert P that is helping me... he needs a few minutes to figure out what's going on.... and he is acknowledging that they have to research this... he has asked for my number so they can call me back. Robert P informs me it will be 24 to 48 hours before I get an update. So in the mean time, I'll sign off here with a meh... I have little hope this will work. Words can describe how dreadful their email service is. They charge you for any extra capacity, the UI is so old and out of date, it is extremely slow and filled to the brim with ads, my in-box is always full of junk mail and their customer service is terrible. Oh boy this is frustrating. I won't recommend Earthlink. My father's account fell into arrears because he had passed and I was scrambling to get his life in order. This was his email. They sent it to collections and refused to do anything but tell me to pay the arrears and then pay for the next membership. Really frustrating. Every other company I worked with after he passed completely understood and bent over backwards to help me cancel accounts or get things current that I still needed. read more
