I received the router and never could get it to connect to service. I called them the same day I received it and they told me I already used 42gb of usage. I am returning because I don't trust them. I talked to over 15 different people and not one would say we understand and we will make sure your account shows no usage. I have had this company for two years now. I was a bit late this month for their first time ever. I paid my bill and they waived the reactivation fee for me not paying on time (lucky me, that's was nice I'll give them that but does not make the rest of my horrible experience right) but then told me I'd have to pay again on my ori billing day or have to pay ANOTHER fee to change my date. I paid the 7 and the expect me to pay again the 27th...so I just paid to not e en get a full 30 days of service which they didn't tell me u til after my payment was completed. this is such a scam company. After month I'll be disconnected from this hell of a compan. I also want to mention they upped my prices several times over the past months to where I was paying $40 more than originally quoted. I called and asked why and they all of a sudden could lower my bill? why'd you raise it in the first place without telling me...to take money in a dhady way and try to not make us notice. I would not recommend Earthlink to anyone. While the internet wasn't terrible, they make promises and do not stick with them. They brag about their service, price, and how they are not like other internet companies yet in my experience they are exactly the same. WHATEVER THE SALES PERSON PROMISES YOU, GET IT IN WRITING. They said they would not increase the price out of nowhere, yet they included a free service and then decided to start charging. I didn't notice and after 3 weeks of calling and being told I was going to get a call back but never did, I gave up. An honorable mention to earthlink, they bragged about how their techs were amazing and if any issues happened, they would be able to fix it quickly. Storm happened and the internet line was on the ground for 4 days. That reminds me! The "no service" internet service provider. I signed up for pipeline 28 years ago. Pipeline got bought by earthlink. Earthlink is spectacularly bad. Don't waste your time calling support. They are only there to BS yes you, blow smoke in your face and change or fix nothing. I am slowly working on extricating myself from them and moving all of my email services to google (and others). This has become important since they now force me to use their "Spamblocker" service whether I want to or not. It doesn't work and requires manual intervention in order on a daily basis in order to retrieve improperly blocked emails. Some non-spam emails never make to my mailbox, just disappear undelivered. Items appear in spamblocker that have been tagged as not spam and are entered in address book already, and thus "saved" from blocking. This is applied inconsistently. "Spam from Known Addresses (save to my inbox)" is Flagged "Yes" Spamblocker summary is NEVER sent regardless of how flagged. This all has been going on for years. Support calls have proved pointless, BS, smokescreen and nonsense. Used to not have to use Spamblocker which is only an annoyance and a waste of time (since ti doesn't work). Now forced to use it. This does NO GOOD and WASTES MY TIME. read more

I signed up with Earthlink asking for the 500mb speed. The sign up process was really easy over the phone and all seemed well. I received an email and text telling me my installer would be there on a particular day between 12-2. Since I had not moved in yet I had someone there to meet them. At 2 there was still no sign of the installer. I called the customer service number and got someone who told me that they were overbooked and couldn't tell me exactly when someone would be out, that I'd have to call back in an hour. I called back a short while later to cancel the service because this didn't bode well for a new customer. Both agents I spoke to were hard to understand. It seems they have their call centers somewhere overseas. While on the phone with the second agent I got a call from an AT&T installer who was on his way, so I kept the service. I had requested the 500mb service but got the 300 instead. So, today I tried to change that on line but was directed to the service number. After a 15 minute hold I got an agent that told me it would take up to 2 weeks to have it switched and then might mean having another installer come out to the house. Horrific experience from beginning to end. Started me on a 50mbs plan for $50 a month, when I was quoted $65 for gigabit. I was later told that this plan at that price was not offered in my area. Customer service in India was beyond useless outside of their script, even "Glen" the "Supervisor" I spoke to. I was told it would be $100 for gigabit, and would take 3-10 days for their "back office" to "send it up". Listen folks, all the people do is use existing infrastructure, and resell it, in my case AT&T. Called them, and guess what, $60 a month for gigabit. I literally called them 5 minutes after the AT&T install tech left (I told you they didn't do anything themselves) when the speed was not what I ordered. Called AT&T to set up service and called Earthlink back to cancel service. Total time with Earthlink before scheduling cancelation: 5 minutes. Total time on the phone with them trying to fix their crap was about 2 hours. TL;DR Don't waste your time with this garbage company. This is the story of my Earthlink nightmare: I was trying to get away from Time Warner, which has a monopoly on the internet in my area, so I called Earthlink. I was SO happy to hear that they could provide internet in my area. They quoted me $29.95 for the first 6 months as a new customer. Later, I check my bank account and TIME WARNER has charged me $59.90! I called Earthlink, and they said Time Warner does all their billing and installation. Earthlink had told me that the installation would be free, so I couldn't figure out where this $59.90 came from. After a lot of calling around, frustrating conversations, and wasted time, I found out that I was being charged $41.95 and NOT the amount that Earthlink quoted to me. Earthlink and Time Warner are both disorganized companies that make no sense and have truly awful customer service. DO NOT go to Earthlink thinking it will be different. It is just as awful as Time Warner. Now I have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get my $59.90 back in the form of a check in the mail, the money that they were NOT authorized to charge me. I was told on the phone that $29.95 was being charged from my account. They are liars and cheats. I have never been so angry with a company before. This is the saga of the hell that is Earthlink. In our apartment the only available ISP is Earthlink. No Time Warner or Verizon or anyone else, only Earthlink. So were charged $50 per month for a peak speed of 56kbps. And that's if the service is good, which it rarely was. We could rarely have more than one person online at a time and even then it was incredibly slow. But they were the only provider and we did not one to pay a ton of money for a metered hotspot. We actually had done that at one point but we used up the data within the first week. After about 2 years of this terrible service, the internet just dies one day. Nothing we do can get it back and working, so we call Earthlink support. Now if you've never called Earthlink support count yourself lucky. Talk about every negative stereotype of outsourced customer support, we got India, we got people just reading off a script. "Did you turn it on and off?" "Yes i did" "please turn it off and leave it off for 30 seconds" "i just fucking did that!" "plz try it again" that whole circle. This goes on for 7 weeks while they're still billing us for the internet that does not work. After nearly 2 months of no internet they get it working, but if we thought it was slow before it was even slower now. Loading up emails would take upwards of 5 minutes, dont even think about streaming anything. But technically it was working so their job was done. Finally, August 1 2015, were moving out and we call to cancel the service. Get sent through to a script call center in india and they want to charge an ETF. Mind you they have a 12 month commitment and after taht it goes month to month and we've had the "service" for a couple years. After 25 minutes of going in circles with "michael" from india he gets a supervisor on the line that can finally void the ETF. Finally after many years too many we are free from Earthlink and have FiOS. Come save us Google Fiber! read more

Have had endless trouble with Earthlink, now I'm having slow and intermittent service, and cringe at the thought of having to call support again. Last time, and there have been many many many many many times, I had this problem I was without service for a long time, Verizon has to do the service calls. I called Earthlink to ask that I not be billed for that time, they promised not to, but of course they did bill me in full that month, I guess they know its too hard to call and complain, so they just apparently lie. Here is the catch - you don't need to use Earthlink for anything. They are a third party, and their promotions actually don't save you money. Just go directly through the provider you want - optimum, xfinity, etc. I tried to work with them to set up Optimum internet. The representative stole my credit card info. He literally took it down, told me I would hear from Optimum to have my account set up, gave me a confirmation number, and hung up. Then I got an email pretending to be from Earthlink confirming the "order" but it was from some sketchy unknown email address. Neither Earthlink nor Optimum had any record of me or my confirmation number. Earthlink was completely reluctant to take any responsibility for their employee. They told me I should not have given my cc # and kept trying to pawn the responsibility on Optimum. So on a side note, if you want to steal credit card numbers and not get in any trouble, I guess go work for Earthlink, they won't mind. And finally, when I went to set up internet with Optimum directly, I realized it was cheaper to do that, and the "promotion" at Earthlink actually had a higher charge for the same service... So just don't use this company. You don't need their third party meddling. read more

I was promised an installation price by an SUPERVISOR that was never honored in addition I've been trying to schedule my relocation for 3 weeks and as customer service professionals they were EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful and every phone call as the matter escalated the customer service gets worst ive been continuously disrespected and completely ignored there's complete disregard for the huge delay being caused to my other installs by not having WiFi installed as yet . Not to mention I can't even secured my property because my cameras can not work with WiFi . I had earthlink for 13 years and when I switched to directv recently and called TWC to cancel their services, they told me I had to call earthlink directly to deactivate my account, I told them I wanted to keep my e-mail so they said I could not deactivate earthlink, no problem. My e-mail got hacked and through my own procrastination it took me a couple of months to actually call them about this. That was this very morning...an hour and a half later of trying to understand the representatives, three in all, who were pleasant but not very informative, I get my account re-activated, great! No, not great, because my archives are gone...the special e-mails that you keep, like the ones from your husband when he was in Iraq, the raw, honest, loving words from the man you love, who, at times, you think you may never see again, are gone.
