    The actual internet service i receive from optimum has been decent. a few service interruptions and…read moreoutages a year. compared to other locations i read about i feel lucky in this regard. what i actually want to focus on is their incompetence. when you call them you are first patched through to a international call center. these people are so scripted it's painful. not to mention in the midst of your aggravation, they're trying to sell you products. they cannot help you. they often hang up/disconnect. it's hard not to be rude due to the frustration they cause. they basically field your complaint and patch you to the department you need, in my case was service and retention. the incompetence of the employees at optimum is astounding. i recently moved and called optimum two weeks before my move to set a termination date for my service. my billing cycle was the 15th to the 15th of the month. i called and we set a termination date for 1/15/23. they explained I would be charged for the other half of the month I wasn't using in January. I said that was fine charge my account because I need Internet until 1/1/23. The representative even took my new address to send the bill. If there was any issues. we reviewed what I asked for 3+ times. Lo and behold on December 15 at 11:45 PM, my service was disconnected. I called back December 16 at 8 AM. I got the call center and they patched me to service. After about an hour on the phone they had to manually go into my account and turn it back on. They charged me a discounted rate for my final month. I will admit, this representative was very helpful and competent. now, when I turned in my equipment, I explained my new location already had Internet on my landlord's account, I would need a second hook up for my Internet in my apartment on that account since it was being included in my rent. The representative in the store set a date four days in advance. The man came for, what i thought was, my installation, but he said it was put in the system as a modem exchange, and he could not install/hookup a second line. this was New Year's Eve, which landed on a weekend. when I called the call center, they kept me on the line for hours, putting me on hold and disconnecting the line until I finally gave up. I called the following day and set an appointment for the following Wednesday. This representative I spoke to was helpful and very apologetic. Needless to say, this experience was annoying and highlighted optimum's incompetence. they came on that Wednesday and finally hooked up my Internet. Get it together optimum .

The low level customer service and the way the company bilks customers is astounding. They claim to be giving you a five (5) year price lock. In my case, two months later they change the name of your promotion to Promotion for Life. They say that this means that only the taxes can go up if they do, but not the price for the service in my case, $40.00 with $5.66 in taxes for a total of $45.66. Do not be fooled. All their promotions, regardless of names, can be renamed and repriced at any time. They actively promote Autobilling, which means they take the money directly out of your bank account each month. It is not worth getting a $5 reduction to have these crooks get access to your bank account. Once you provide them with your bank account number, they can help themselves to any amount. Prices with Astound change at the drop of a hat. They do this by claiming that your plan's name was changed. What this means is that they hiked the price. Am actively going to see if I can find a better deal elsewhere. These people are nasty and only interested in bilking customers. These are seasoned scam artists.
