I've passed this place many times over the years but never had a need to stop by until recently. I found out via Yelp that East Bay Lawnmower does more than sell and service power tools and lawnmowers...they also do sharpening! I brought in some garden shears and pruners as they've become dull over the years from use and probably not storing them properly. Lori wrote up the claim ticket and mentioned they probably wouldn't be done today depending on the owner. She asked when I needed them...not in a hurry I said next week. About 2 hours later, I received a call they were ready for pickup...amazing. For both items to be sharpened (and cleaned!) was $15. Lori mentioned she has worked there for about 20 years and the place is still run by the Kiyoshi- Okano family for the last 45 years. The owner (89 years young) still does a lot of work himself along with his daughters and grandkids Friendly, quick, inexpensive with great customer service. This is a review about Toro Company equipment, mine was a Toro 120 mph 60 volt Leaf blower that I purchase from Home Depo Online. Toro has chosen several companies in the Bay Area as their service representatives to warranty their equipment. (Joke) Not even a year later the battery failed so I called Home Depot they sent me to Livermore to be turned away because they do not warranty Toro equipment unless it is still under the store warranty. I was told to go to another company in Livermore listed as a Toro authorization service rep. but they said if you did not buy it from us we will not touch it. Home Depot did take the time to find me a service warranty company and that was East Bay Lawn mower. So I drove to Hayward and dropped it off with this hidden gem of a company. East Bay Lawn mower tested the charge and equipment found the battery was bad and ordered me a new battery. At $157.00 for a new one bran new I was extremely happy that the 60 volt lithium battery was still covered under a 3 year manufactures warranty. I was just as impressed with East Bay lawn mower and how nice and professional they were and how quick they resolved my problem. The store is awesome and they service what they sell which is even better. East Bay Lawn mowers selection and prices are just as good as anyone out there so if you are shopping for residential or commercial lawn equipment make sure you give East Bay Lawn mower a call or better yet take a drive and check out their floor models and ask their very knowledgeable employees about the equipment you will not be disappointed. The day you become a real adult is when you have to take your lawn motor to a repair shop. I have had my mower for 13 years! Crazy right yep. Been being an adult for that long. It has had a very good run. I broke my chain and my mower wouldn't stay on or idol. I knew the filter was dirty and it need a new spark plugs. I also knew that the carburetor need to be cleaned or rebuilt. This is what East Bay Lawnmower did. They are a bit old school; very smart and knowledge. They told me they don't do much social media or promotion as they have been around for 40 years way before I was even born. They are family owned and located near A street. I just brought my mower in; they gave me a claim ticket. They did all the repairs and now my motor is back running like a champ. It was a 2 day turn around so not that long. My only beef I had was the price isn't really cheap; It starts at 80 bucks for a tune up but I needed a new pull cord as well and my mower hasn't not seen any maintenance ever to be honest. I was going to just buy a new one but it's good to see my motor still working great after a tune up here. The only thing I noticed is they didn't tighten up my gas tank and I spilled it over my car in the back seat! Ughhh. Who likes the gas smell in the inside of the car TAKES forever to go away. I should of checked this before I loaded the mower. So I got to ding them for that; I could of been my fault for not checking that before hand. Just need to make sure everything is tight before loading it into a car. I don't own a truck would of been better if I did tho. I had it very tight to load it; they did check the gas and oil ect. New Spark plug. They pimped out my mower. I'm happy with the service. It's not the cheapest solution but it's less money then buying a new mower. I would return and recommend them for mower repairs. read more

I was going through some old photos and was reminded of East Bay Lawnmower. I bought my first chainsaw and generator here about 25 years ago. I accepted their advice on the generator, Honda EU2000i, and it is still working! I am not sure I should have argued on the chainsaw, but the Husqvarna 359 I insisted on is still going too. I don't think they sell anything that isn't quality. Last time I went there I bought a Stihl FS131 and promptly moved to New Hampshire. I knew I'd need it here and nearly five years later it has been invaluable. Still starts easily and just works like a dog. I did have to take the Husqvarna back once, because I neglected it and let the carb get gunked up. Cindy fixed that for me, I don't remember what it cost, but it was reasonable enough that I didn't need to remember. Second time was after one of my friends borrowed it to fell and cut up a large number of dead trees on his place in the Sierras. He took it in to make sure it was like new, I picked it up and found it was working better than the day I got it. This is a great family run store. If you need small machines, like chainsaws, mowers, weed wackers, etc. then you are a lot better off at a family owned store like this than a big box store that will give you advice based on what they want to sell, instead of what you need. I wish there was a place like this near where I live now. read more

For years I have been taking garden machines of several brands to East Bay Lawnmower. They kept my old chain chainsaw running when another shop just tried to sell me a new one. I was given a gas powered chipper that was years old. I took it to East Bay and have been using it with no problems. read more

My mower is 10+ years older. I never did any maintenance on it and it stopped running. I took it in, and they got it working again and did all the maintenence for me at a fair price. It was a nice little family owned shop. read more

I like this shop. They are really "in the know" on lawn mowers, they tell the truth. The Truth is many lawn mowers are made in China and they are AWFUL. I have taken a few mowers there for service, they always come back running great. This shop has been on A forever. Briggs and Stratton is no longer a good motor...I took a nearly new Yard machine(Briggs) to them, they admitted they could not fix the piece of junk - explained how cheap the parts were - chinese garbage..and the guy was Chinese lol. read more

I don't have any lawn mowing equipment, but I do have very nice sewing scissors that I use to make clothing. EBL did a great job sharpening them, with a quick turn around! The only suggestion I would make? That they charge a bit more than $4.00!!! I am from Oakland and the cost here is more like $10. Perhaps somewhere in the middle? Great job!! read more

Very responsive and honest. Took my lawn mower to get inspected because it stopped working. Very affordable and fast service.

Not an honest business. My 1 year old mower would not start and they told me the reason was due to methanol clogging up the carburetor and that it was going to cost $115.00 to rebuild the carburetor for parts and labor. When i picked up the mower i was told they only cleaned the carburetor and replaced the spark plug and air filter. This machine only had 9 hours of use on it as my lawn is not much bigger than a postage stamp and there is no dirt that would require a filter change after 9 hours of use nor would a spark plug need replacing and no kit was used. Would not go there again even if the service was free. read more

This is a true mom and pop business, actually dad and daughter. The whole team is top rate from the front desk to the repair shop. Prices are not cheap, but they're dealing with name brand top of the line equipment and reality is you get what you pay for. We've taken in dozens of saws and equipment and have never had a problem and are always pleased with the workmanship and quality. read more

I'm familiar with all the mower shops in the East Bay and East Bay Lawnmower is my first choice. I've worked in the landscaping industry for over 15 years and really like these guys. They treat there customers good, and have competent mechanics. There are other shops closer to me but I'm willing to drive a little further to get my equipment repaired by these guys because they consistently do excellent work. read more

This is really a place to buy gas-powered lawn mowers and such, but I took my electric Toro weed wacker there when I couldn't take apart the cutting head apart (it had jammed very tight). I had called them to tell them about my predicament to see if they could help me and a nice woman said to come down and she would take a look at it. She managed, after a struggle, to get the thing apart and then gave me a lesson on replacing the string. I marched out of there ready to attack the weeds and very thankful for the terrific customer service. So I can't comment on buying lawn tools from them but the service is first rate! read more

I took a gas lawn mower here for repair in 2007. When I got the unit back, and took it home, it still barely worked, and I was only able to use it a couple times before I gave up on it. It was an off brand mower, but the front desk lady never said that it was a problem to fix it, and when I came to pick it up, the charge was about $89, more than the cost of the mower itself (this was an old used mower I got for $25). Initially, they told me they did not know how much it was going to cost to fix it until they took it in to the shop to look at it, and they weren't going to look at it for free. Understandable. But when you have a repair done, it should be working like new afterwards. I could have took the unit back and complained, but I figured I wasn't about to pour any more money into it. And if they fixed the unit the first time, tested it, and still gave it back to me in piss poor condition, then I wasn't about to set foot in there again. read more

These guys are by far the most affordable in the Bay Area. Laurie was really friendly and helpful. She said my pump would be ready by Friday and called me later that day to tell me they had got it all cleaned out and it was ready for pickup...cant ask for much more than that. read more

I really like this place but they are only open 9-5 Monday thru Friday so if you have a real job and need to go here you are out of luck!
