Here's why you should make all your paint related purchases at East Bay Paint Center (and resist looking for cheaper brushes and whatnot at Home Depot or Amazon). First, they carry Benjamin Moore paint and it's the best. You can pay much more for paint or slightly less, but either way that's silly. Benjamin Moore always has terrific colors and texture and great durability. Any time I've hired professional painters, this is the line they use. We need to keep this business thriving so we can always get a same-day gallon of Chantilly Lace (if you know you know). Second, they have everything paint related under one roof. Your time is valuable and you can't go to two stores looking for the wide painters tape or that butcher paper stuff to cover the floor. Third, their service is above and beyond. You order online and your stuff waits for you on a shelf outside for immediate grabbing. You walk in and someone asks you what you need. Amazing. I put their service to the test today by ordering a sample size of Dark Taupe paint, placing it on the roof of my car while I loaded other things, then driving off. When I realized what I had done (and I did it -- you can see my Dark Taupe paint splatter in their parking lot), I returned to apologize and reorder and found they had REFILLED MY ORDER and placed it on the shelf without comment. My new paint store! The assistance and professionalism at this paint store far outweighs what you get across the street. No shade on the other place, but EBPC seems like the kind of place where employees are treated and trained well (I sincerely hope so). They really take their customer service seriously. The option for order/purchase over the phone to pick up outside upon arrival is nice and time-saving. Covid precautions are being taken seriously, so in-store browsing is kept to a minimum. This has been my go-to place for painting and supplies for a few years; I've used them for all the interior paint and supplies on my home. Today I went in to grab a quick item, and it was a bit slow so I waited a few minutes for a cashier, which I didn't mind. Imagine my surprise though, when after waiting patiently I was completely bypassed so an employee could ring up a male customer first instead. After spending hundreds of dollars at EBPC over the years, I tried to swap a single gallon of paint which I'd had shipped to my distant cabin but arrived in the wrong color. The can had never been opened and all I asked was to trade the unopened can I received for the correct color, which EBPC carries and which I also use at my permanent residence. I was rudely and summarily refused. The online shipper by contrast couldn't have been more helpful and even mailed me a prepaid shipping label. East Bay Paint Center is doing it right! I went inside of the store for a few paint samples for the entryway, living room, and dining room and was helped immediately by a gentleman who asked if I needed help. It was such an easy process to tell him the colors and they were mixed very quickly. Once I decided on the colors I was able to go to their website and order all of the paint through their website and it was ready in less than 20 minutes! I just had to pull up and they had the order ready to go and helped me load the paint into my car. I definitely would recommend them to anyone because of their spectacular customer service and prompt service. This is where my excellent general contractor (Glen Larson) has purchased much of my paint for various modest home upgrade projects over the years. I also periodically come here on my own for my own painting ideas, touch up (including paint matching), and "fix it" activities. This place is busy with a dynamic combination of contractors and homeowners. This place is a hub of activity, especially in the morning. As a result, you often have to wait for several minutes. However, they always know you're there and each customer gets the right degree of attention and help for what they need. Are used to come here a lot to get paint and especially paint color matching. They're awesome at that. Last time I came in, the cashier asked me if I'd been helped and I said yes they're mixing my paint right now. He asked me if I could manage to recall what I had ordered three seconds before. Yes. Then he asked me if I had ordered pink or purple paint. My husband walked up just in time to hear this and said to the guy, "Oh you're good at this! Do all the men order blue?" I just don't need this shit. The news is a daily onslaught of insults to women. Walking down the street opens me to some form of daily harassment. When I am paying a premium on paint to buy local and get top notch customer service I don't need your micro aggressions. I can get paint elsewhere. My husband and I came to East Bay Paint Center because we're working on a few DIY projects. We needed to get a color match and my husband had a few sanding and staining questions. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by Aldo. He asked us if we needed help, and we had explained to him how we needed a color match on an existing exterior paint. He was very thorough about the color fading and matching process. We decided to go with a close match. While we waited, Luis was helping my husband with stains and sanding questions. He was also very knowledgable and helpful. Overall, we had a great experience. The color match was done quickly and we're very happy with the results. As for the stain, Luis helped us make the correct decisions on a potential error we would have made. read more

We bought a few paint samples from The East Bay Paint Center because we heard that Benjamin Moore was as great product. I needed contractors and asked the staff for recommendations. The gave me three local paint contractors that they felt were right for the job. I got bids from all three and would have been comfortable using any of the three. In the end I chose JJ's fine painting owned by Javier Davila. What a great choice. The painting team went over and above and the store tolerated many visits by us as we compared colors and textures. Everyone on the staff there was super helpful and extremely knowledgeable. In addition they are a locally owned and run business like we are. Knowledgeable and friendly. Great product selection. I've worked with them on two or three semi tricky projects now and what impressed me most about them wasn't actually the projects that went smoothly (although yes those were great and they helped me make smart choices) but I had one project where they actually made a little mistake. To be fair, even the mistake was only made out of an effort to serve me quicker. Once I alerted them to it there were no questions asked, I didn't need to justify my dissatisfaction they fixed it quickly and apologized up front. I find that often businesses show their true colors (pun intended) only when challenged. They could have tried to shift blame but the smart team here didn't. It's rare these days when a business sees a challenge as an opportunity to gain a lifelong customer. But they did. And now I am. read more

I have been coming to this family run business for 15 years. Just went today. My concerns are their concerns. Kary is awesome! Shout out to her for being an amazing color specialist. Interior designers, people in the trade and just common people like me, this is the place for you. I had pictures, color and idea for what I wanted for our doors, with a high gloss. She explained everything to me, as well as what to tell the painter for technique. She even noticed that one can of paint had a slightly darker color to it, even though they were suppose to be the same. She asked if she wanted me to mix another can, and offered me another creative option. For great advice, great paint and products, this is your place! They were especially organized about Covid. I brought in a paint number that was from a paint they brand they didn't even carry and she (VERY patiently) helped me find just the right shade. She answered every question (we're talking multiple) about different kinds of paints and even took my room measurements into account to help me assess how much I needed. And she was cheerful throughout! I've already called to speak with her directly to order more paint and she totally remembered me. I had a very unpleasant interaction with Allen (a manager) a few days ago when I brought in a quart of paint that had failed. The can was less than two years old and it failed at the bottom of the can and I lost much of the paint, it created a mess, etc. I brought in the defective can, which had the date and location of purchase on it. As an owner of rental properties who has been painting them in the Bay Area since 1991, I have never had a paint can fail that was stored property. This was stored inside, on a wooden shelf at indoor temperatures (in my closet inside my home). I have not even had cans fail that were stored in my garage on a wooden shelf. He said I needed to store it at least 60 degrees and that the coldness caused the can to fail. Who turns their heater on for their paint cans when they leave their home for the day or when they go out of town? I heat my home put I do not throw my money away heating my paint cans when I am not home. His attitude was frankly arrogant. He was not open to the possibility that the can was in any way less than perfect. I have been coming to East Bay Paint Center since I bought my duplex in Berkeley in 2001 and more frequently since I bought properties in Richmond and El Sobrante. I have always had successful, pleasant experiences at this store until this time. read more

As a homeowner I made a huge mistake coming here. EB Paint was recommended by my electrician who cut a 10" square of painted wall board directly from my wall so I could get it matched by this paint store. EB Paint said they could use my sample to make an almost exact match of the color. Here's where I made my first mistake: I asked for an exact match in the same flat matte paint as on my 10" sample. Turns out MATTE is East Bay Paint Center Store's lingo for shiny paint. As a result, I ended up painting half my ceiling with a gallon of expensive shiny "Matte" paint that was not a match at all. I think they should have noticed my sample wall board was flat paint and confirmed with me that I knew I was ordering a different surface than the sample. My second mistake was that I chose the wrong brand of paint. The differences were not explained ahead of my order; only after I returned the problem paint. For flat paint I should have ordered "Regal" brand but I chose "Aura" brand. Aura is the wrong brand for flat paint. Ohhhhh, I guess I was supposed to magically know that!! I had to buy another $45.00 gallon of the same color paint with the correct flat surface. They offered no refund, just a 10% discount for "my mistake". This doesn't feel like a place we want to return to. One star for a good color match, and one star because this place might work if you go there accompanied by a professional painting contractor. "Matte" according to a Google search, is defined as: "a color, paint, or surface dull and flat, without a shine. Such as "matte black"" read more

The East Bay Paint Center is a great local resource for all your paint and painting supply needs. It was a little overwhelming my first time there - the front, circular area is where you place your paint order, and it can sometimes be a flurry of activity. However, the sales associates here are knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful - which is what you want when you don't know whether to go with Benjamin Moore's Aura or Regal, you can't decide which one of the thousands of shades of white you want to paint your walls, or when you have no clue what kind of roller brush to use on textured walls. They carry Benjamin Moore and Pratt & Lambert paints. I've never tried Pratt & Lambert (pretty colors though), but I have used Benjamin Moore and I will probably never go with another brand again. The Aura line, especially, almost has a brain of its own - knows how to cover evenly and blend. There is a small parking lot outside the store, which is convenient, since San Pablo is such a busy street. The lot is small, but I've never had a problem finding a space there. read more

Carey and Kaylee were awesome! I needed a lot of help with my paint match! Supply chain shortage and materials limitations meant that I asked a lot of questions and was high maintenance. When I came back 10 minutes later they'd already made my gallon of paint and tested to see if it wouldn't match given a 6 year fade. So far it looks like we're gonna have a really great result. Excellent customer service and paint knowledge go a long way. It's expensive paint but when you know people are putting hard work And doing their best to make sure it turns out right it's at least a reassuring comfort to go with a truly professional team. read more

Been coming here as a homeowner for over 20 years. It's all true - busy, friendly, knowledgeable, and competent. I've never had a problem with a match and the quality of paint they sell means that you paint once and then enjoy for years to come with no chipping.
