Ordered paint over the phone, delivered on time, and great service by local paint store

I have been here a few times during a house renovation phase, since it was impossible to get the correct colors anywhere else. Home Depot was not able to match anything correctly and after a while I just gave up and went to Mark's. It was a good decision and our home project has finally been finished (and successfully I might add). So, the quality of the paint is great, they match expertly, if you bring a big enough sample and the turnaround time is usually within a few hours or next day. Pricing is a bit on the high side, but not outrageously so. Why only 4 stars? Those guys are grumpy! No matter when you arrive, which person you talk to or how busy the store is, no smile in sight, no friendly word. Hell, hardly any words. Geez... read more

Troy was superb in helping me get 3 more gallons of custom mixed Benjamin Moore Aura interior paint that I needed when the 3 gallons I purchased yesterday from Pagano's in Alameda were not enough. The prices here are much more reasonable to boot. A nice young man also helped me bring the cans to my car and the paint was mixed really quickly. I've been going to Mark's Paint Mart for the last 10+ years when doing various projects around my house. I've been helped by most of the staff at one time or another and every experience has been positive. These guys (and gal) all have years of experience under their belt and know their paint. I can always discuss my project and get useful insights and options for what I hope to accomplish. I can even get good recommendations on the best color of white that I need! Not easy :-) Every time I'm in there, I see professional contractors coming and going, so they trust the staff at Mark's Paint, too - always a great sign! I want to give a shout out to this paint store - they let me in just right after they had already closed because I had just been there and bought the wrong color. (insert unhappy face here!) Carolyn in particular was SO HELPFUL even though I was clearly keeping her after hours so that I could have paint for Sunday morning when they were closed. It's all about the SERVICE. I have been going to Mark's Paint Mart for about 30 years. I may not know the name of every long time staff person, but I know them from my many visits and I am always greeted like an old friend. Two days ago, Alex helped me patiently while we discussed the paint options, including color, sheen, trending styles versus traditional looks, etc. I was struck once again by the depth of his knowledge. Today, I met Emunti, someone I haven't worked with before. I asked him for an impossible favor, and he patiently explained why it wasn't realistic. It's a long story, but I understood, reluctantly, that I had made a mistake, and there was going to be a do-over at my expense. When I came back to get the new paint, all I can say is I was taken care of generously. It made me once again grateful for this rare and personal place. Mark's Paint Mart is special. It's an institution. The owners and employees are wonderful. And very soon they will be getting my business when the house gets painted again! There are other places to buy quality paint, but only Mark's Paint Mart will lift your spirits and restore your faith in humanity. MANAGER NOT WEARING A MASK! Had to go in quickly and the employee I talked to was helpful, but the guy who appeared to be the manager was walking around talking to employees, customers, and myself with his mask off while he was eating. Are you kidding me?!? I will definitely not being going in there for the duration of the pandemic and probably much longer. Think global and shop local. The best paint store with great customer service than your big box commercial retailers. I tried using the color matching apps to identify a paint for some work I'm doing in my bathroom. I had to take a piece of dry wall to get the match. Unfortunately, I was in a bind and my drywall contractor needed the drywall sample back to finish the job. Brandon who understood and was able to match the color in no time. He went above and beyond and got me out the door and with the correct color. He was a great help! I will be coming back for all my paint needs at Mark's Paint Mart. read more

6 people working there only 2 attempting to wear a mask but the masks were not covering their noses or mouths, just the chins. Although the signs outside are made to make you feel like they are being safe, they aren't and I didn't realize until I walked in the people working there clearly don't don't care. They didn't ask what grade of paint I wanted and just charged me for the most expensive paint. I would have paid a third less at Home Depot but am trying to avoid crowds since I am immune compromised I thought I'd shop local. Bad idea. I'll send someone to Home Depot next time. Super disappointed. If you don't care about COVID then don't put signs outside your store to give people a false sense of security! Just say enter at your own risk and leave it at that! read more

The have been to a few different Benjerman Moore locations and This store specifically carries Benjerman Moore. The Huge difference between this store and Benjerman Moore is the customer service! Alex took the time to listen to our painting needs. He was super helpful and showed us samples and was very friendly as well. He eas very knowledgeable about all the products and even gave recommendations. I also noticed all the other employee's being very helpful to other customers too and it was pretty busy. I will travel an hour just to come to this store for our home needs. read more

They go above and beyond. I needed eight samples of different colors (gotta test em before I commit!). I received Great customer and felt that they went above and beyond when I had to return to get a few of colors tweaked! The ONLY bad thing is the stench from the Church's Fried Chicken on the corner. Mark's has everything you need and they offer a free color consultation on Saturday mornings. They have TWO kinds of no-VOC paint (without the nasty toxic smelly stuff) and they will color match from a large paint chip right off the wall or other color sample. read more

Ordinarily, I would give a hearty thumbs-up review of Mark's Paint Mart. The folks who work there are generally friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. HOWEVER, today I stopped in to pick up a can of paint and wondered what the hell they were thinking. None of the employees was wearing a mask or gloves, and they were all hovering directly around one another, breathing on one another. I called out my salesperson on it and suggested they all should be wearing masks and gloves. He offered a pathetic excuse. "Yeah, I have one; it's right over there," he said, pointing to another counter across the store. I reiterated to him that they ALL should be wearing masks. Jeez! Needless to say, I stood as far away as possible and approached the counter only when it was time to pay. I won't go back again until after the pandemic is over. To the owner of Mark's Paint Mart: Get a clue! If one of your employees gets sick, they ALL will get sick, based on what I observed today. Then you can plan on shuttering your store completely for a couple of months while people recover. read more

Chris is the most helpful guy I've ever ran into when it comes to staining our new condo floors. He literally helped me sand down my sample piece of bamboo wood and went over stains samples and put them on the piece to help us nail the perfect color. Couldn't have done it without him! Good customer service but their prices are absurd. I was in too much of a rush to go to my usual Benjamin Moore place in Albany, so I came here and ordered an identical gallon of paint. Again, I was in too much of a rush to check the price or even register how much it was until I got home and was emptying out my pockets later. It was over $20 more?!?!? It's a huge pain to schlep across town, but I swear I'm never going to Mark's again just out of principle. read more

This is usually a dependable place for service and quality. But not my last visit. The kid that took my order could npt offer any advice, nor did he ask a more experienced coworker. I have been going here for the past seven years and have been using Benjamin Moore paint for the past seven years. For a product that is servicing and targeting designers with a very high consumer price tag - this Telegraph store is a shambles and Its dicey whether or not you will get a helpful or friendly sales person. The store always seems to be in a state of re-organization, and samples are sketchy. Usually I tough it out since its so close to my house, but this last experience was my last straw. I had a young guy with no smiles basically start to help then walk off and do something else. I thought he was mixing my paint, but he wasn't. So I waited and it wasn't until someone else came to ask if I needed help that I found out he wasn't mixing my paint. It was stupid and unnecessary. I have been in this store maybe 50 times. Usually the guys that have been there forever, are great. But these two new kids... yuck. The second guy was almost as big as loser as the first. Its called customer service. Can I help you? Here you go. Thank you very much. Is that hard? I realize these trade stores are no personality contests, but for $50-$80 a gallon - they could try a little harder. I found the new Frazee to be VERY helpful and current. Kelly Moore is a better buy all the way around. If only they would improve their colors. I will continue to buy BJ paints, but not from Marks Paint on Telegraph. I'm over them and they're grunting attitude and shabby store. read more

I have been a loyal customer for 10 years but I will never go back after being rudely treated when I called to ask about the formula used for a paint that I purchased last week. A salesperson sold me several gallons of Kelly Moore paint with the assurance that the formulas were the same across paint stores. I chose to purchase the paint from Marks. Unfortunately, when more paint was needed, Mark's Paint did not have the Aura base needed for 2 more gallons of the Kelly Moore and so I needed to go somewhere else for the paint. This is when I discovered that the formulas are not the same from store to store. When I called to inquire about the formula, trying to figure out how to solve my problem, all I got was the salesman lecturing me on the obvious - I should have bought all the paint from the same place, (ignoring the fact that they did not have the proper base to make additional gallons of paint). He just kept saying this over and over - as though I didn't know this. Too bad he couldn't simply say, I'm sorry this happened. That's all I needed. read more

It's a paint store, but pretty friendly to the DIYer. They carry Benjamin Moore - PRICEY but good stuff. It's certainly better than Behr, that's for sure. The guys at the counter are pretty friendly and they gave me the contractor discount without me even asking! This place is where the pros go to as well, so unlike the droid at Home Depot just shoots colorant into paint, these guys will give you advice upon request. And they'll do color consulations on weekends too - not that I need one since I have a handy neighbor over at a house I'm working at in the Dimond district. However, the sundry/spray paint selection is a little lacking. I usually end up at Home Depot to get primer/tape/solvents/spray paint. But the paint makes up for this. If I'm in a spendy mood for paint, I'll come here. Ben Moore Aura is just that good. read more

They answered all my questions, kindly pointed out that I had picked out the wrong brushes for my project - the ones I had chosen were actually MORE expensive- and had me on my way in no time. And while the price of Benjamin Moore is expensive, I find that Mark's prices are reasonable. It definitely beats the 30 minute line at Home Depot paint department. For realz. read more

I don't actually follow what others are talking about here when they complain. I have been using Mark's Paint for almost 25 years and have always received INCREDIBLE service and attention. Talking about disinterested salespeople, go to Home Depot and buy a gallon of the crap they sell and you'll see disinterested. Absolutely no knowledge base. When I go to Mark's and encounter a unique problem or question, they usually have a quick and detailed answer for me. THE GREAT: Alex. Quality of supplies. Location. All of these things outshine one very frustrating (see below) thing about Mark's Paint Mart. That very frustrating thing almost ruined my weekend and almost cost me a lot of money (I had painters coming the next day, cancelling due to lack of paint would not have been cheap) but Alex was quick and capable when it came to helping me get what I paid for so I could continue on with my day. THE AWFUL: Why does this store let the Benjamin Moore website list them as being available for same-day pickup on the weekends if they can't do that? Like, holy shit, what a disaster waiting to happen. I imagine there must be a number of same-day pickup orders that are sent on a Saturday morning to complete a Sunday paint job so I was shocked when I got there around 2 hours into my 3 hour window (I live within walking distance so I figured it was worth checking in a little early) to find my order was not even on their radar. They had no proof that I'd ordered, aside from the email on my phone, nor proof that I'd successfully paid for what I ordered. Why is that? The people who work on the weekend can't see the orders that come through the website. Luckily, Alex, who was limited in what he could do, got to work and was able to have my paint in my hands within 30 minutes. Alex should be promoted because 1. he's awesome and capable 2. then you can have someone who can see the website orders on a Saturday. If it weren't for Alex, I probably would have had to pay again in order to get my paint within the timeframe I'd initially paid for and then wait until Monday so that a manager could see proof of my initial order and refund me. And that's just hoping they didn't remake my order with the morning run. These guys are awesome! They offer an excellent selection at reasonable prices with superior service. As a property manager, I've painted several apartments as well as individual rooms -- but I'm not a painting contractor and don't have a Benjamin Moore account. After suffering inexplicable abuse at Raimondi's, wandering the aisles in confusion at Home Depot, and using seriously inferior paint from Ture Value, I found Mark's and am a loyal customer. If I ask for a discount when buying several gallons of paint, they give it. They are not condescending and are willing to give helpful advice so I can navigate their dizzying array of supplies. read more

Customer service could be better. I asked about ordering on the phone and was told to come in and that they will have paint ready in 5 minutes. But my actual experience (a number of times) was 15 minutes. Also they were evasive about the price difference between customers with or without an account.
