I drove 30 minutes to meet Alex at our agreed upon time, and waited 15 minutes waiting for him to show up. He didn't, so I texted him again to see what his eta was. He then informed he wasn't coming, and had an emergency to take care of. Given the prior conversation with him, I'm not entirely convinced of this "emergency ", especially because he still offered to come in the morning the following day. Had he called me when he knew he wouldn't be able to make it, I might be more forgiving, but he wasted my time.

He and his crew came out and in a couple days were able to install a brand new Hunter system with sprayers and multiple drip lines. Despite having to trench through my yard, when they were done it looked as good as new. They took special care around existing landscaping and did not damage anything during the installation process. It's been a few months now, and the system is working great. Grass is green and plants are blooming. Sherman is easy to work with and super responsive. He's great with communication, and his estimate was right on point. I had some drainage work done at my house which trashed my entire irrigation system, so I needed to have it replaced, both in the front and back yard. The McKay crew did a bang up job of it. They came in on time and on budget. They had the whole system laid out and running within about two days. Then Sherman spent some time with me to make sure I knew how to operate the controllers. In fact, they do more than irrigation, and I will likely have them come back and put in some new plants and do some other work in my backyard. We were able to schedule something for the next day which had to get pushed back another day, but throughout it all, Isai was very communicative and punctual. I received a number of quotes within three days from my Yelp request and Isai was the most reasonable by far. We were able to book a day and time that worked for us the week after. Before our appointment, Isai reached out with at least six different photos of options for ground cover and I appreciated being included in this process even though I don't have extensive knowledge of landscaping or gardening at all. The day of, Isai and his team came in the morning and within just a few hours, completely transformed our front and back yard. They worked quickly and methodically to uproot all of the weeds from the front rock garden and in between the concrete; shaped various shrubbery and trees; weed all of the planters in the back yard, lay down landscaping fabric, and also the mulch; and, sweep up various leaves and fallen fruit. Payment was easy through Zelle and as he left, he notified us that the yard waste would be a little heavy because the weeds were wet. He also asked if we had pets (we don't). He indicated that weeding the front yard was difficult and that a little Round Up at the first inkling of weeds would go a long way in keeping them at bay. Our previous irrigation system had leaks etc…read more During the site visit, to which Mike showed up drunk (which is fine, whatever), he mentioned that his workers would add irrigation to the pots, remove existing pipes, and bury the low-voltage electric wire which was going to be running along the pipes anyway. Mike canceled on the originally scheduled date once. Finally, Mike sent two guys to install the irrigation. They were fine and were happy to bury the electric wire when requested, but then later Mike came and rudely told me that that wasn't part of the spec, and that "these guys are stupid, if you ask them to wash your dishes they would do that too". I didn't appreciate the racist comment but let it go. But that was not all... there isn't much space between our home and the next one (think 12 inches or so), and he asked how we would get the siding repaired should we ever need to. I said I didn't know.. he said "maybe you can hire an Ethiopian to get in there, they're all thin because of the famine there". Truly WTF Anyway... judging the work itself - the installation seemed fine when it was done, but we later noticed and had to patch four leaks. I'm not sure if there are more. The piping they used, I was later told, was lower quality too. I'm not sure how long it'll last. I was unable to get competing quotes because we were short on time, but later I realized that his quote was a bit higher than others for the same work. He insisted I pay in cash, and so I did. I then spent literal WEEKS following up with him for an invoice (which I need for bookkeeping), and he kept blowing me off. He said things like "I had a family emergency", "I have 50 jobs this week", "I'm busy" and then simply stopped responding. He also said that it's just 2 minutes of work and that he would get to it... but he never did.

They were always booked - which is a good sign - but that meant it was challenging to get them on the schedule. But when available, they did great work at reasonable rates. Eventually, the company was sold and the new owner changed the business model a bit. The initial bids were the same - basically truck roll fee + labor with materials to be billed after job completion. The big difference was they no longer provided itemized material costing and the materials markup was much higher than other irrigation vendors we've used. In addition, this change was not noticed before the job was completed and they refused to itemize despite multiple requests. Again, they've always done great work for us and if not concerned with paying a significant markup for materials, then possibly a good fit for you.
