I always rate every Americanized Chinese restaurant by my 3 core items: Wonton Soup, Egg Roll, Lo Mein. These are very basic dishes that can be a good barometer for how the rest of the menu will be. Usually a decent Chinese restaurant has a good soup but a not so great egg roll. A good Chinese restaurant might have 2 of these items that are good and one that is not (usually the soup. Typically it just tastes like salted water with a noodle wrapped around gristle.). But East Met West actually nails all 3, especially the Lo Mein. I love this place, it's cheap, delicious and the people are so nice. They offer chinese and japanese cuisine but I recommend sticking to the chinese and you can't go wrong. Deliveries are always quick and they once even brought me a chinese calendar, which I love! Besides that you always get a free soda with your order or free soup depending on how much you spend. Solid bone-in spareribs for a takeout. They cook fast too. This is one of the rare #Chinese takeouts that have #homemade hot mustard. It's so much better than the hot mustard packets. A four star Chinese takeout restaurant. The General Tso's chicken (the standard by which all American Chinese restaurants should be measured) is crispy and not too heavy. The rice is freshly streamed rather than a weird mushy paste. The prices are spot on. The $6.50 combo includes an entree and rice. An egg roll can be switched out for a drink. Extra points for offering seltzer in addition to the standard sodas. The staff is friendly are there are a couple of full booths (as opposed to a stool or broken plastic chair) for a dine-in experience. I have no complaints. East met west is situated just next to the Graham Av station, it is a purely savior especially for someone who does not bother to cook, take a warm Chinese takeaway when you got off the train and walk back home. I have to say, the portion is soooo huge, it is just enough for my three meal, I had had chicken in sour sauce with fried rice, which is only 7.95, and food preparation is fast as well. I stopped by my mom house last week and she had some takeout from here. After sampling her food I decided when I came over the following Sunday. I wanted to eat here for lunch. Ive been getting chinese take out weekly from this place despite the fact that the owner conveniently forgets how much the food is and tries to over charge me. A couple of times he forgot to give me change and i had to remind him. The last straw was when i used the ATM on the premises to get cash out to pay for the food. I took out $40. The food cost $8. The 2 $20 bills were crisp and stuck together. As he was closing the register, I immediately realized that i mistakenly gave him $40 and told him so. He ignored me and closed the register and then accused me, a long time, regular customer of trying to rob him. It was obvious he knew that he took the 2 $20s - he refused to count the register. He's rude and a thief. The food is not even that good. The only reason i was going there was because it is 1 block from where i live and i was being lazy. East Met West has the fastest, most excellent delivery I've ever experienced by any restaurant, ever. It is always my go-to for local Chinese food. The guy already knows my address - it actually freaked me out the first time he didn't ask for my address and just asked what I wanted and hung up. I wondered - how and when I was going to get my food? But then the 2nd aspect of their awesome delivery manifested and he was at my door in like 10 minutes from the time he hung up. I really appreciate the fact that they are so organized, they keep track of your information and you can order so fast. It's also a GREAT value for what you get, and the main delivery guy is just a nice guy. This is definitely a delivery place - not much to dine in. Their food is consistent, tasty Chinese - not too greasy. I'm a big fan of the Kung Pao Chicken, Sesame Chicken and General Tso's. I love that they offer brown rice with anything you want. The egg drop soup and spring rolls are good too. - standard fare. One note - if you're getting a lunch or dinner special and you do not want a regular can of coke with it - specify that, or specify diet coke. Also, props for the name - it's kinda funny.
