THIS IS AN UPDATE TO AN INITIAL 2-STAR REVIEW FROM 5/4/13 . THIS UPDATE IS DATED 6/29/13: I received an email this week from owner David in regards to my negative 2-star review of 5/4/13. He apologized for what happened, and asked me to call him, which I did. He informed me that the offending employee is no longer working there. David felt badly because it turns out that he was there on that day, but had just stepped out for a few minutes shortly before I walked in. Upon his return, all he'd been told by his employee was than a customer had come in and simply left after a couple of minutes. David asked if I'd be willing to return to his shop and give him another try. Of course I would! This guy's work is terrific, and I greatly appreciated that he reached out to me in an attempt to correct the issue. I went this morning, within a couple minutes of opening, and was greeted warmly by David. Sure enough, his work station was ready, his equipment was all set, and there was no waiting. I got the whole package, as I'd initially planned to do back in May: haircut, hot lather shave, goatee trim. The haircut was excellent, the goatee trim was excellent (impeccably symmetrical!), and the hot lather shave was luxurious and relaxing. I will definitely return, and I'm upgrading my rating to 5 stars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Original review from 5/4/13: If the owner is there, you'll be greeted warmly and you'll get a first-class haircut in a jiffy. This guy knows that time is money, for both himself and his customers. I've been there several times before and have always left very pleased. However, if his assistant is there by himself, as he was this Saturday morning, you might as well go elsewhere. The store presumably opens at 8 AM on Saturdays and I walked in around 8:11 AM (yeah, I notice stuff like that)...the gentleman there, while he did acknowledge me ("I'll be right with you"), wasn't ready for business: he was still setting up his work station. Slowly. And I mean s-l-o-w-l-y. After waiting five minutes, he still wasn't ready; in fact, he'd gotten a phone call and was casually chatting, so I walked out. So, am I being too harsh as this could be a one-time fluke? I don't think so. I wasn't too impressed by this guy's general comportment during previous visits. And, as stands to reason, this was the day I was planning on spending a bit more on myself: in addition to a haircut, I was going to treat myself to a hot shave since I'd never had one. It's too bad as I was really starting to like this place, even going out of my way a bit to get my haircut there (considering there's a barber shop less than a mile from my house). This is my 5th time at this barbershop. And all I have to say is good things. I have been looking for a good barbershop for a long time since I moved to Lovettsville. I searched and tried other barbershops in hopes of finding one but had no such luck. I have received haircuts from each of the talented barbers here and they all did a great job. Actually they ALL did better than great they did excellent. I showed them a picture of what I would like done, and they ended up making me look better than the picture I showed them! I leave feeling glad that I found this place. They are good at what they do. Every single barber in that shop deserves praise. You can walk in and get any barber in that shop to cut your hair and feel safe knowing that you will be taken care of. read more

I dragged my boyfriend in here because he was starting to look like a ragamuffin, despite being a fully grown man. He doesn't normally go to barber shops, but his hair was becoming downright mutinous, and this place just happened to cross our path. The two gents working the place were very friendly, and they know how to cut hair. Prices are cheap, and a free neck shave is included with a haircut. I only assume this is a good thing because the boyfriend's eyes glazed over when the fresh shaving cream got slathered on his neck. This is my favorite Barbershop in all of Frederick. Being from the area my whole life, I have jumped around shops over the years and this is the one I stuck with. All 3 guys do a great job. I am not used to going to a shop were it doesn't matter which guy cuts my hair. No matter which guy is available when I come in, I get a quality cut for a great price. They follow directions and work fast. They are also friendly and willing to shoot the breeze which for me is a plus. Lastly, they have better skills and lower prices than other barbershops nearby. read more

I Needed a low skin fade and couldn't find a place that knew what that was. I looked on Yelp and saw that there were some good reviews here. I walked in and was greeted by David. David (which is the owner) has been cutting my hair for 9yrs now. One of the best barbers I've ever met. He used to cut hair down in Aspen Hill that's where I met him. Now I have to drive all the way up to Frederick to get me and my sons haircuts. I recently moved to the Frederick area and ventured on to Yelp in hopes of scoping out a barber. Based on the previous review, this seemed like the place to go. All of the staff here are top notch and the shop has a great atmosphere. I highly recommend this place for any guys with thinning hair. I've had my hair cut by four different individuals and they've been the best cuts I've ever had. The price for services are spot on as well, a cut will run you about $16 plus tip. I've been coming here for the past two years. My haircuts aren't very complicated (just need a trim every three months or so), but I rarely left without being extremely pleased with my experience. Really nice guys, average barber shop prices and convenient location. Parking in downtown Frederick can be a bit of a nuisance but there's metered parking outside and a parking lot a block away ($1 for an hour). Highly recommend! read more

I was skeptical of this place after having my haircut and beard trim at some of the "higher end" shops in town. Man was I pleasantly surprised from start to finish. David gave me a great fade and even made some recommendations on what to do with the top of my hair. He then trimmed my beard perfectly, including perfect lines all the way around my beard. After reading the previous reviews I decided to give this place a shot, since I am very picky when it comes to a good haircut. I have been to numerous barbers/stylists in the Frederick area that give one or two decent haircuts at best, then become too relaxed and complacent leading to a less than decent cut, to the point where I had to pay for a crap haircut then go home and try to fix it myself. I saw David last Saturday. He was very friendly and professional and actually listened to what I was looking for. He took his time and delivered. I was very pleased with the cut and have finally found a barber that I can trust. I will definitely return and would recommend David to anyone that is looking for a high-quality barber. read more

Took my two sons here on Monday for a haircut. My one son went to the Asian gentlemen and my other son went to the bigger Hispanic gentlemen in the back. They both started at the same time, but the Hispanic gentlemen in the back quickly cut my sons hair and was finished about 5 minutes before my other son. The haircut was terrible and I could tell it didn't look right but the Hispanic gentlemen saw me looking at it and told me my son didn't want to much off. The haircut he gave him looked uneven and choppy. My other sons haircut looked great and I almost asked the Asian gentlemen if he would fix my other sons hair but decided to be polite and not to. I don't know if I will ever bring my boys back, but if I do I'll avoid the Hispanic gentlemen in the back by the TV, and just stick with the owner or the Asian gentlemen. read more

I tried this place twice. Both times I was rushed through with little discussion about what I want. Looked acceptable at the time, but as soon as I showered I noticed uneven bits. When I checked my bank statement after the second visit, I'd been charged $22 for a $16 haircut, after I had told him to add $4 for tip. Great haircuts! However, the barbers should seriously consider the choice of conversation while customers are present. If you go on a Saturday when there are families in there then you will be okay. If it's a slower time and not many people are there, prepare to listen to crude conversation. I, being a grown man, was blown away by what they were saying so much that I will never go back.
