Food: we got fries ($9), fried pork belly ($23), and garlic chicken ($22). Coca Cola ($4) and a plantation iced tea ($5). Soda refill was $2. Tbh, I don't even know how to describe the disappointment of this food. Fries were okay. Coke was flat. Plantation iced tea didn't taste good. Added lemon and sweetener and vast improvement. Fried pork belly was hard and bland. Garlic chicken just didn't have taste. Even the potato crab salad was a disappointment. Tack on a service charge to our bill and ... needless to say, we will not be coming back. Skip this place. Unless you're just having a beer and watching the game, go somewhere else. Always seen this place when we drive by but because of Augie T's comedy show we decided to go. The place was very clean inside, bright lights, easy to move around, super friendly and accommodating staff. We got three food items and the Kalua Pig nachos was Ono, garlic chicken was tender and packed with flavor and so was the garlic fries. The forst drink ordered was a 7/7 but it was a little weak so the other drinks was selected from their previous made menu. As a word of caution please always view your itemized credit card hill before signing. For some reason we had the tab from the table next to us. Very poor customer service. Walked in and there were only 2 other parties (of 2). Both were still waiting for their food. We had our choice of tables as the place was pretty empty. Conveniently located in a shopping center with lots of parking. Walked in and must've looked like a bunch of tourists. No one greeted us for a while until we asked. Almost all tables up front were reserved for groups except the one we ended up sitting at. We realized that they had families coming in to watch the band that was playing later on. Others walked in and were turned away. We ordered drinks and pupus because our server said entrees weren't being served. Not a problem, we got a pupu platter that came with pulehu short ribs, garlic chicken and crispy pork belly. We also got the steak with rice and crab salad on the side. Our whole pupu platter was over cooked and it looked like we got the leftover pieces from the "regulars" that had a pupu platter that was stacked high. The short ribs and the steak were over seasoned. We managed to finish the steak but at least half of the pupu platter remained. Server asked if we needed a box which we declined. Great place for live music and drinks or even entertainment, when i went tonight they had live trivia games with prizes and karaoke night. The vibe felt good and it became quite packed by 8 pm. I ordered a mahi-mahi entree and my friend ordered the pork belly plate. We both got the crab macaroni salad and upgraded to fried rice. We both thought the food was decent, i didn't have high expectations after reading reviews here so the food exceeded my expectations. The mahi-mahi tasted fresh, way too much garlic but it was good, the fried rice was a typical home made fried rice and my friend really liked the crab macaroni salad. The food was decent but nothing special and just average but was decent. We both got a mixed drink which we both liked. I agree with other reviews that you'd go more for the atmosphere, live music, drinks and company, The service was friendly and the service was good until it got crowded, i'm glad i got in before the crowd and we got our food much quicker than when folks came after it got crowded. They have a separate bar area that seemed packed. Tv screens on the walls to watch sports. I think this place is a nice addition to Kaneohe to hang out and drink w average food. I went there with a friend that was visiting. Thought it would be a great place cause it so near to where I live. The ambiance is ok, like a L&L with a Bar on the back side. It wasn't that busy but service was horrible. Almost non existent! We sat down and at the bar, not too crowded on a week day... literally had to flag the bartender down, but he seemed he was over his head, just restocking beer? To get our first beer took 20 minutes. We would have ordered food but could get any service so we just paid for the beer and left disappointed. Several other people also came in and left without getting anything... Hope it was just a bad day, but unfortunately , I don't think I'll be back. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner after he got off work because we came hungry. To drink we had diet Coke. We decided to get the poke nachos because I was craving them. These were pretty good. We also got the lechon and this was delicious because it was fresh and tasted so tender. It wasn't hard or tough. Both delicious however the service was a little slow but they were busy on a Friday night. There was live music by a guy so singing and playing guitar. So freaking amazing. Definitely worth coming here. However parking was difficult to find because it does get busy. I highly recommend this restaurant to eat. I definitely will be back with my boyfriend. read more

Ate lunch there after getting battery changed at O'Reilly next door. Have seen the place for a couple of years now and it was our first time there. First impression was it was a bit loud with the pop rock sound track, but the music was neither offensive in content or volume. NBA finals were warming up on the big screens but sound was off. The furniture was eclectic mix of black tables and chairs, white tables and chairs, and zinc covered tables with black booth seats. The three of us agreed the zinc tables were short and would be more comfortable if they were 3 inches taller. We arrived just after opening and were the 3rd table to be seated. Service was fine, no issues, but it appeared our server was the only one serving. We ordered an East Side Burger, Kalua Pork Sandwich, and the Paniola Burger. First, the fries were fantastic. They stayed crispy throughout the entire meal, so kudos for that. Both burgers were also fantastic. There was bonified char on the bottoms that gave the occasional crunch, very similar to backyard charcoal grilled burgers. Burgers were also significantly thickernthan your average burger and had the appearance of hand shaped. Being thick burgers and char on the outside, we were impressed that the burgers were not dry in the least and had great flavor. Had great beef flavor, not meatloaf or frozen patty. Some minor quibbles. Not a single pickle to be found. Also, the Paniola order came onion free for some reason and would have certainly been appreciated. Lastly, if you give us knives, give us some forks to go with them. When we asked for a fork, we got a plastic disposable one. Knives were legit knives, why not a legit fork? A few attention to minor details and this would have been perfect. Having said that, we certainly appreciated the food flavors and will return the next time we have a serious burger fix that needs to be tended to. read more

My dad and boyfriend finished the last of the top grade tequila at the bar, asked the bartender if we could keep the bottle. Bartender came back to tell us that the owners daughter was GOING TO CHARGE US FOR AN EMPTY BOTTLE. She was going to charge us $80 for an empty bottle...after we spent $400 at this place. All she had to say politely was "no" without the attitude. Should my dad have asked for the bottle? Probably not. Should she have had a better customer service and handled the situation better? Saimin is simple with cut spam and kamaboko. Its a single serving size. Old school style for those who grew up here. Nothing fancy. Add your own shoyu and pepper to taste. Hamburger with cheese- ask for it Well Done. Mine was medium rare. I would have returned it as I got to the middle but I was hungry! Came here last Tuesday night only because it was the only place we saw that was open when we drove into the plaza. We were so glad we found this place. The Keala Band was playing and they were so good and harmonized beautifully. Loved how people from here audience would come up and dance Hula. Service was great the it seemed to be one waitress and she was very helpful with the menu since we have never been there before. The pupils menu is served family style. We had the salt and pepper shrimp, garlic shrimp, peluha short ribs & enoki rice rolls. All were very good but our favorite was the enoki rice rolls and the garlic shrimp. We had a great time. First week they're open. We came here on the first Friday of their opening week and luckily we reserved a table! Live music started @7. Band was really good (Hawaiian music) but way too loud. So loud that we couldn't hear each other talk so we ended up leaving. Food was pretty good but portions were too small for the price. Drinks were nice and cold. The 2 waiters serving tables were quick and friendly unlike the 2 waitresses lol. 1 waitress took our drink order and never returned. The other waitress wouldn't stop when we waved her down and tried to get her attention. They didn't have enough menus to go around. Located on the Windward side in Kaneohe at the strip mall that's right across the street from Kaneohe Mall. There's ample parking and well lit for those coming/leaving after dark. When you first walk in it feels like a large meeting room since everything is open. Once you get settled in, it should start to feel more comfortable. Suggestion would be to put more plants or set up some booth seating. There's a bar in the back if you prefer to hang out there. The service was good and the young man was very attentive. The food was good, but we found it to be very salty (primarily the kalbi). The poke nachos were tasty, but the chips are too thin and light for the big chunks of fish. The 5 stars is for the entertainment!! David "Kawika" Kahiapo was performing and he is amazing!! He brought up a friend to sing a few songs with him (Jerry Rivera I think his name is). My wife and I wouldn't normally travel to the Windward side for a meal, but she wanted to see the band "Summer" perform, so dinner and a show it was. East Side is located in the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center. Plenty of parking and I saw private security patrolling the area. Summer was scheduled to perform from 5-7 p.m., and we arrived at 4:55 p.m. Upon entering, the dining area was about 80% full with additional bar seating in the back. We waited at the front podium to be seated for at least 5 minutes before a young girl wearing glasses and a blue t-shirt came and directed us to our table. I wish I would have gotten her name, but she had ZERO personality. No smile, no verbal greeting, or even an offer to get our drink order. One star deduction. We looked over the menus that were dropped on our tables by the same employee, and it was again several minutes before our server Kalena come to get our order. Thankfully, Kalena was all smiles and was a gracious host throughout our visit. While I may have missed them, any time I looked around the dining room I only saw Kalena working the tables. I never did see the "hostess" again either. In my personal opinion, entree menu prices seemed high at first glance. I am at East Side Bar & Grill and not Blue Note right? It was a night out with the wife, so I rolled with it and ordered the Smoked Meat ($26) while my wife got the East Side Combo ($15) which was saimin and a burger. We enjoyed listening to Summer while waiting for our food, which seemed to take quite a while, but we weren't in a rush. The dining room was full by the time we ordered our food, but customers were heading straight back to the bar so East Side appears to be popular with the locals. Back to the food, I'm happy to report that both my wife and I enjoyed our selections. The Smoked Meat had a wonderful distinct flavor created by the wood used, and the burger that came with my wife's saimin justified the price. On my plate there was also a small scoop of coleslaw, which was creamier than I like but still good. I selected fries as my starch and they were cooked to perfection and probably the best restaurant fries I've had in a long time. Despite all this, I still found $26 to be steep for what I received so another star deducted. Drop the price by 15-20% and I might order it again. If I lived nearby, would I return for just dinner and no live band? No. A suggestion for East Side would be to mute all TVs when you have a live band performing. I know it was the UH-UNLV game, but I don't need to hear the sports commentators to follow along and I think it's disrespectful to the Band. read more

At first when you enter the restaurant, it may appear intimidating with the music playing at night, especially being kupuna, but I noticed right away the crowd inside was all-kine ages, young and old, just enjoying the ono food, great music, and talking story. Everyone was singing, dancing, laughing, eating food, drinking and just having fun! We walked to the back and sat at the bar. Ordered the best pupu platter with pipikaula, garlic chicken and crispy pork belly - omgeee sooo guuud! And the drinks were superbly mastered and created by Amber, our friendly, sweet bar tender. While we were enjoying our food and beverages, Jazz and Kama came over to talk story with us, asking if everything was ok, how was the food, etc. OMGEEEE these are 2 young men asking us kupuna how things were?! That is old kine days customer service! No one does that anymore! I was so surprised! They both came to talk to us to see how things were, at 2 separate times! I came to this place on a whim before an appointment and I wasn't disappointed. I tried the paniolo burger, which was great, along with the seasoned fries. The burger was cooked perfectly so hats off to the cook. The bartender was super nice; I didn't catch her name but she was a local girl in a baseball cap. She had a very good vibe and was dealing well with a colorful character who came in all drunk and loud but also friendly. I admired her patience. The food was great, I love myself a good steak and the service was awesome. We had a worker that stood out and she was super friendly and helpful. I felt right at home. I think her name was Sharon or Shannon. Wonderful connection and I felt she understood customer service which is very rare nowadays. Because of the atmosphere and the great customer service, I am thinking of gathering information for my mother's 85th birthday at this location. I highly recommend this bar with lovely music and good food. But I can't stress on service and the help. I didn't ask her, but I'm sure Shannon has been working at the business for years. It shows that management or the people hiring the staff know exactly who they want to represent at their place of business. Their food is absolutely horrible. We ordered the nachos and the mushrooms. The mushrooms were swimming in butter and had no taste at all. The nachos were thrown together with fake cheese and kalua pig, with no other toppings; again, flavorless. We were so disappointed, especially for the pretty money we paid for them.
