After walking through the Byodo-In Temple about 10 minutes away we decided to have a great dinner at Haleiwa Joe's. This location opens at 4pm and does not take any reservations but we had very little wait, 25 minutes, even arriving at 4:05pm with a line already formed. While waiting for our table we made our way down to the garden and walked around and enjoyed the turtles and fish in the little lake they have. This is a great photo opportunity. Once our table was ready we were seated and our server came over quickly to get our drink orders and any appetizers we wanted to put in. Their poke and island ceviche were delicious. They also provide complimentary bread with guava butter that was amazing. Since I was celebrating my birthday I decided to go for the prime rib that many have compared to a steak out of the prehistoric era. It was cooked perfectly and the potatoes and green beans were great sides. This will definitely be a place I return to with friends and family due to how great the service was and the beautiful view and delicious food. Although not in Haleiwa, it's still not an average Joe. Been here multiple times and it's always a great place to eat. Please be prepared to be there early, there are no reservations. But it is very much worth the wait! You get to look out on the beautiful outdoors of their nice little koi pond with the views of the mountains. Open air seating, right in front of the fresh air. Food is amazing. Make sure to order their prime rib. It's a bone in 3lbs steak (I could be wrong on the weight, but just know the sucker is HUGE!) I would say that Haleiwa Joe's is a strong 3/5! The views from the restaurant are AMAZING, especially as the sun goes down, and the wait is definitely worth it if you enjoy taking a walk around the premises; BUT if you don't like waiting for more than 45 minutes (we waited about an hour and 20 minutes for a party of 5 at 6PM), a crowded waiting area, crowded eating space, and an extremely small parking lot, this may not be the place for you. I also would say that the price for food is a little pricier for my liking for the taste. The food isn't exotic, but it did taste good and their bread and guava butter were my favorite part of my restaurant experience! If it wasn't for the service, I would've given the restaurant a 3/5. Despite the long line/wait, the staff was actually really interactive and proactive with the parties they were serving, which we really appreciated! I didn't feel like we were waited long to get our food, eat, and get our check at the end, which was so perfect. We arrived early, but this spot is very busy and for good reasons. The wait was at least an hour so we strolled through their beautiful botanical garden for a while. We finally got a bar table and got attentive service. The drinks were delicious and the kiddos ate off of the bar menu. They loved the wings and chicken sandwich. Food was really good but nothing you can't find anywhere else and the views depending on where you sit may or may not add to the overall experience. Service was not great here. The service was standout, I feel bad that I do not remember her name as she went above and beyond in her service. We went for dinner after Kualoa Ranch, on our way back to Honolulu. They do have a large parking lot. They don't do reservations. But this is less of a problem here then other places. We were not lucky with the weather, if it was good, the ground are beautiful gardens. They do have one of the best waiting areas I've ever seen, as well as a bar area, to wait in, so you are not hovering over others as they eat. You can also order drinks and apps in the area. Their mango margarita was standout, "it tastes just like a mango!" The restaurant appears to be arranged so that most tables have some of a view of their open patio. Even with the rain, it was lovely, and they lit touches as it grew dark. The menu is the right size, I think a more focused menu lends to better food. We had difficulty deciding as everything sounded great. We started with their poke, very good, and nicely presented. I had the grilled fish, which was great, and my friends had two very different steaks. One got the prime rib, and it was on theme for our dinosaur tour at the ranch. Such a fun place and the staff was AMAZING! When i told them we were here to celebrate a wedding anniversary, they jumped into action. I wanted to make sure there was no fight over the bill, so they took my card at the front desk and made sure our waitress understood the task. There was happy hour at the bar, so we started there and the bartender was so fun and friendly. The drinks were so yummy too. Ambience was stellar as they sat us outside with a view of sunset. My family loves this place, has for a LONG time. Came for Father's Day, we put our name down and they gave an eta of 1hr 45min. Left and came back around 30-40 min later. Checked and they said another 1hr 45min. Then added another 30 min, then another. Total time waited was about 2 hrs 30min. Understandable that it's so busy especially on holidays, but to not have a decently accurate ETA wasn't looking too good. Finally got sat, and the wine cups and silverware were dirty... Food did time some time to come, but again, it's a holiday so to be expected. Server was kind and accommodating, really nice woman. Prime rib was HUGE, but the bone was also a decent chunk of it, not too bad though. New York steak was very dry. Ordered one medium and one half of the steak was medium well-well done, the other side was cooked to med-rare but somehow the whole steak was VERY dry. Would not recommend. This is NOT my first time, but it was mh first time in a while and the Prime Rib was definitely just as good as I remember if not better! Even their Brussels sprouts appetizer was really good! Since it is graduation time and this place is always hopping, we had a little bit if a wait giving us the opportunity to explore the grounds. Haleiwa Joe's came highly recommended for their prime rib and they didn't disappoint. The prime rib was really expensive ($74.95), but it could've fed four people! I shared it with my dinner companion and we have enough for at least two more meals. It was very tender; in fact, for part of it, my friend cut it with her fork! We were sharing, but the area from which I took my piece wasn't quite as tender... I had to use my knife. There was a large hunk of fat attached to our prime rib, but I just cut the lean part away from it. It was served with green beans and mashed potatoes. I wish there were more green beans and the potatoes were creamier, but both were still good. I think they used red potatoes and included some of the skin; it was on the drier, chunkier side and I prefer my mashed potatoes smooth and creamy. The meat was definitely the main focus on that plate! The waitress was really sweet and friendly. She packed up the left over prime rib along with two small containers of au jus and a container of horseradish. It'll be great for our meal at home. We got there at 3:50 and the line was already about 20 to 25 deep, but we were able to get seated because we didn't require any special seats. Worth the wait to try it at least once for the views. Be warned there are lots of mosquitos so get some bug spray on before you venture out. No reservations allowed so walk in only. Large nice garden to meader around in while you wait, expect a minimum 30-60 min wait if you're not in the first wave of seating. Service is good. Complimentary hot bread and guava butter after you order. Food wise I sampled a few entrees- the grilled mahi mahi over garlic potatoes, the sticky ribs, and the coconut shrimp. Entrees are all in the $37-45 range with things like prime rib up into the $75 range. The mahi/garlic potatoes were the best, perfectly cooked tender fish and delicious creamy potatoes. The sticky ribs were ok- a little dry IMO, the coconut shrimp seemed the most overpriced for what was given, perhaps 8-9 battered shrimp and some rice for nearly $40. Also tried the wedge salad for $17 which was kind of a disappointment for how small and underdressed it was. Overall, it's nice for a fun outing or special occasion. We did a walk-in and the wait was a little over an hour, which sucked, but it wasn't as bad since we sat in the lounge area, ordered apps, and our server there was super nice and attentive. Once we got seated, our server was kind, just a bit quiet/reserved. Only got talkative when he as trying to upsell the dessert. The food though... very mid. I asked for medium rare and got a steak that was clearly undercooked--cold in the center and no flavor at all. We had waited so long I figured I'd just take it back to my room and cook it more myself. I literally had to dip it into my husband's chicken plate sauce just to get some taste. For apps, we got the spicy poke, ceviche, and garlic bread. The "spicy" poke wasn't spicy, and the ceviche had basically no flavor. Garlic bread was okay, and the house bread was warm and soft, but everything else just felt really underwhelming. I didn't even wanna bother order dessert because I couldn't take being disappointed again. Nothing was nasty, just no flavor AT ALL and nothing stood out. You're mostly paying for the view. Keep in mind they open at 4:00 pm on Sundays and they do not accept reservations. We got there around 3:30 and we were the 3rd party in line. We wanted to make sure we get some of their famous prime rib. It's a bit pricey BUT the cut is HUGE. It's at least a 2" cut and amazingly delicious. It comes with garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. We also ordered the fresh fish of the day which was mongchong. For those of you who don't live in HI and if they have it, it's definitely worth ordering. It's a white fish that is flaky and delicious. We also ordered the NY steak which also delicious. We were seated overlooking the ravine and after dinner we walked the grounds below. It's worth it to go down there and take some pictures. I hate to say it but this place has gone downhill in the past few years. Long line to get in, then wait for a table just to get in and be ignored by your server. Our waters ran empty most of the time. We were served prime rib with no steak knives. Check and boxes took forever. The prime rib used to be a great deal- under $40 a few years ago and now it's $75 a plate. The mashed potatoes were gummy like they were reheated too many times. String beans were salty and dry. Prime rib was still good as I remember. The soup is an add on for about $6 extra and it was watery and the clams were gritty. The salad add in is just as sad and costs extra. Okay, I'll admit it I found this place on TikTok while planning my birthday and knew I wanted a spot with a view and a solid steak. We arrived right at opening (4PM on a Saturday), and there was already a sizable line. We mentally prepared for a 2-hour wait but were seated in just 30 minutes. Not bad!
