I've been coming here for 6 months since I adopted my dog earlier this year (a husky mix). He's from a shelter and I wasn't sure how he'd do with grooming. When I first took him in I warned the staff that he can sometimes be mouthy (he's a husky mix - very communicative about what he likes/doesn't like - but not aggressive). It took a few visits but the last 2-3 he's been getting rave reviews on how good he was doing. So 6 months in, I drop him off for his usual and get a call an hour later with a vague description that he "came after" the bather and "got her sweatshirt", so they wouldn't finish the groom. I go to pick him up, they charged me half price for barely a bath and were very obviously treating me like a second class citizen. I asked for video footage (as I feel is my right) so I can understand the full picture and work with him on it and also be able to communicate in the future things he likes/doesn't like. I don't know what "go after" means in this context, I think they didn't want to say "attacked" but I know my dog and he wouldn't do that unprovoked or without clearly communicating in advance. When I asked for video footage the salon went quiet and it got awkward (again I explained why - I got a vague explanation I deserve to know the full picture) and I was told the owner would follow up with me on it. They made me go in the back to get him, he's soaking wet in his crate, very diminished. It wasn't said explicitly but I got the insinuation that we wouldn't be allowed back. He spent the rest of the day at home in a very defensive/protective state. Since this, the owner has not called me on the date they said she would and I still have received no further context or information as to what happened. I'm disappointed they wouldn't give someone who'd been coming regularly more information and treat them so coldly. Giving two stars because we had previous good experiences on the surface, but questioning a lot of that after this incident. read more

I have been to Rogers bark three times with my dogs. The last two times I was there, they left some aggressive razor marks on my dogs stomach. I wish I still had the photos, but I don't on my new phone. While That my sound serious, my dog seemed unbothered and they were incredibly kind. MY job is very sporadic and not a set schedule, so when I schedule in advance, I sometimes may have to cancel due to work. I've had to do it twice with Rogers bark. The problem with them, is that they don't answer their phones quite often, goes straight to busy or voicemail. The last time I had to cancel- I even drove there to tell them since they didn't answer. I tried to book a new reservation and I was shamed for no call/no show when in fact that wasn't true. And they conveniently didn't put that in their notes. Safe to say, I will not be returning after being met with rudeness and condescension from their owner over the phone. read more

As a long-time poodle owner for 50+ years, all having been professionally groomed every 5 to 6 weeks I believe my opinion is valid. Poodle owners are picky, otherwise we would not stress over finding a groomer who knows poodle grooming, not as common as one believes. The groomer here who primarily handles poodles is a pro, with a following, and competes in grooming and shows her dogs. I found inconsistencies with the grooming and believe it is due to the overbooking, general chaos at the shop makes it easy to understand the disorganization and not the lack of expertise of the groomer. Very frustrating dealing with a small business who uses a defensive posture when responding to criticism or discussing services, initial response is always the client's fault. Don't question anything or you are difficult. I have referred many to the shop, but I will be grooming elsewhere. I believe good customer service is equally as important as the service rendered when paying for a service. I was spoiled having a groomer for 29 years who valued my business. read more

They were able to get my cat in for a same-day nail trim and did a wonderful job with her. She gets skittish, and they kept her calm and comfortable. We were in and out. The store is also really cute inside and the staff are very friendly & knowledgeable. read more

My doggo is a highly reactive dog and we've went to multiple other dog salons but no one is trained like Heather and knows how to take care of him. This was my first visit to Rogers Bark for a bath and coiffure appointment. My daddy told me it is highly rated and he trusts the personnel there to take care of me. I was dropped off at 7am and really taken care of with kindness and love! I had the most luxurious bath and blow dry followed by a clip, nail trim. Wonderful experience! I took my basset mix for the bath and brush out package. I normally bathe him myself but I thought this would be a nice treat (for me-not him ), and I wanted to support a local business during the pandemic. The lobby area is very clean and they also sell products like treats and toys, but don't push them on you at all. The person who checked us in and the groomer were both very friendly. All of their staff are wearing masks and switch out the collar and leash before they take them back. Currently, only one family is allowed in the lobby area at a time, with masks as well. They tell you four hours maximum for pickup, but I got a call after 2.5 hours that he was all done and ready for pickup. Ziggy is a sweet pup but always looks like he wants to die while you're bathing him, so I wasn't sure how he would be with new people, but apparently he did great! Ziggy is a short haired guy so no trim, but it cost $85 plus tip for the package including bath, blow dry, brush out, teeth cleaning, ear cleaning, and nail trim. And a cute bandana! I normally pay $5 to wash him myself at the pet store so I'm not really sure if the $85 is standard price or not, but I was really pleased with his nails and ears since he doesn't love when I torture him with that! I would definitely come back, but probably only once or twice a year since it is a little pricey for my budget. Still a fun experience and I would definitely recommend Rogers Bark! read more

I've been bringing my two doodles here for a few months now. This past visit, upon leaving, the groomer said, we'll do a full groom next time. I was confused and said I thought they were here for a full groom today. She said, no it was just a bath and trim. I explained that was not what I wanted and she said she was sorry and should have questioned it. She offered to trim their faces up if I brought them back in later in the week. Mind you, I paid nearly $200.00 for a bath and trim, not a groom. I understand mistakes happen but when I went back today, she announced that I asked for a bath and trim and the the other groomer heard it too. My dogs clearly needed a full groom. I was very pleased to find groomers so close to my new apartment. The first time my cats nails were cut perfectly and quickly. The second time, however, they were not cut at all. I did not bother to check them before I left. After a discussion with Heather, the owner, I was denied a refund for services and my generous tip. I was offered a gift certificate. After seeing the employees like to play games with their customers, I had no need for a gift certificate as I had already decided not to return. When I became indignant and insistent, they called the police.Ido not recommend them although I am sure they are good to most customers. They were not nice to me. read more

Overall they usually do a nice job and they follow your grooming notes. Heather is great and the staff is very friendly. Today sadly I did not leave as detailed notes as I usually do because the girl working asked if I wanted the same thing as last time. I naively said yes - assuming she had the notes written from our last visit. Overall my dog looks fine, she's still cute, but whoever cut her ears did not do a great job. I totally get it that she can get knots behind her ears because she swims, but then they should cut out the few knots she has not buzz the entire area! Yikes. Luckily it is hair, it will grow, but it doesn't look great... her stomach/ chest area is also uneven. The instance that I am speaking of happened a while ago but the memory is still very clear. I had not had the opportunity to have my dogs groomed at Rogers Bark for quite some time. I was looking forward to returning as I knew what to expect. Well groomed dogs at a reasonable price. I found out when I dropped off my dogs that the grooming salon had been sold. The new owner greeted me and was pleasant. I dropped of my two dogs and she said she would call me when they were finished. I received her call and returned to pick up my dogs and I was chastised for not grooming my dogs before I brought them in to be "groomed". The groomer piped in and said the same thing. 1. I am a customer not her child. To be chastised and criticized by a business owner is about as poor customer service as you can get. 2. I have two Siberian Huskies. Siberian Huskies go through 2 times a year when they shed like crazy. We call it blowing coat because at these times you can pull handfuls of undercoat as it sheds so quickly. The main reason for having my dogs groomed was to have the dogs brushed out by a professional that could do a better job than I was doing to that point. At this time of year you have to brush them regularly or the shedding gets out of hand. I did brush them regularly and even if I hadn't, that is what they are there to do. If it was so terrible. Why did they not mention anything when I dropped the dogs off? These dogs go to work with me every day so numerous people see them daily. I would not let my dogs look poorly in front of others. My first expectation was not met. They were only average brushed out. My second expectation was also not met. I was charged $20 more per dog more than the groomer near my work and he does a better brush out. Very disappointed that a real neighborhood jewel is becoming tarnished. I hope that now that this lady has had the salon for a while that she and her groomer have learned some better customer service skills. read more

I've been coming to Roger's Bark since 2013 and I would never go anywhere else! The staff has always been friendly and helpful and willing to accommodate my schedule. My little schnauzer, Bear, always comes out fresh and clean and satin-y. He is not a fan of grooming, but the folks at Roger's Bark take good care of him. Bear has large, delicate ears and I how they manage to clean them up without ever hurting him - I'll never know. They also let me know right away if they see a problem that needs care - whether it's dry skin or loose teeth, they are very aware of what is going on with my baby. They are fur-baby magicians! They refused to schedule service for my dog due to lack of immunizations, even after explaining that my dog is unable to get his shots because of an autoimmune condition. My dog receives regular vet care and has a note explaining why he is unable to be immunized. I've never had an issue with scheduling services from Petco to Bark Bark Club. Wanted to try a new place, but guess I will stick with businesses who are inclusive of all pups! Do not recommend. read more

Oh how I miss Rogers Bark. I haven't lived in Chicago for almost two years, but I still think about this place and how I wish I could take my dog back there for grooming. My dog isn't an easy one to groom. He's a Wire Fox Terrier who is handstripped. Handstripping can be a tedious process for both the groomer and the dog. Val did such an amazing job that my dog always looked fantastic AND was happy going in to see her. In fact, he was so relaxed around Val that he would sometimes fall asleep on the grooming table. I was able to observe Val grooming my dog on a couple of occasions because I wanted to understand how the process worked. Even before this, I felt comfortable leaving my dog there. Observing the Rogers Bark groomers at work made me feel even better about it. They treat each animal with such patience and care -- mutt, purebred, cat, whatever. Apart from how well they treat the animals, they are truly great at what they do. Frankly, my dog has never looked as good as he did when he was getting groomed by Val. She has a such a developed eye and really understands how to make a dog look its best. (And by the way, some of these reviews are hilarious. The shop carries great food, but two stars because the dogs in a grooming shop bark? One star because they didn't accommodate someone demanding same-day Saturday poo removal? I used to take my Maine Coon cat to Rogers Bark for a yearly lion cut. While I will admit that they do nice work - his haircuts looked great - there was an incident. I picked him up after about 4 hours and when we got home, he jumped up on the bathroom sink for a drink from the faucet. That's when I saw a dark spot on his belly. Checked it out and it was dried blood. One of his little boy-nipples had been shaved off. Now I understand it can't be easy to groom a cat, but I would think a professional place would have the courtesy to let me know about the cut so I can address it at home. When I called Rogers Bark to inquire about the injury - they insisted that they didn't know they had cut him and the cut must have only started bleeding at home. Not sure I believe that response as a cut like that would have surely elicited a yelp from my cat! No apology. Fine, maybe they didn't know but their lack of concern lost me as a customer. read more

I've never had a purebred anything, so I can't speak to the perfection of specific haircuts and the in-store selection isn't very big. Beware! Zero stars. No wonder why they have NO business! The owner cut my mothers Pomeranian and it looked atrocious..... She CANNOT cut hair. NEWSFLASH!!! Practicing on your clients isn't a great idea. There are much better dog grooming services in the area. Heather can't groom hair correctly. She was rude and condescending and has no customer service skills. She said she would refund the grooming fee, and that we were not welcome back. Don't worry Heather, we absolutely will not be back to your low budget pet grooming salon who is run by untrained and uneducated groomers. I have been going to Rogers Bark since 2005. In his final days and leading up to it, I would take my beloved yellow lab, Finster in for his grooming. When Finster got so old Marie and her staff were so loving to him and would help him in his old age in the tub and in his pen. Til the very end Finster was pretty and "brand new" each time he would leave RB. I now have a little King Charles and Marie and her staff make him so pretty and cute! He likes to go get his groom and tail dyed purple! I love how good he looks and smells after visiting Rogers Bark!!! read more

I love the smell of fresh fabric softener and I love it when my dog comes out of Rogers Bark smelling like a fluffy towel that I just took out of the dryer. The employees at Rogers Bark are so nice and friendly, despite my dog being an absolute pain. Lola doesn't like separating from me, doesn't like her butt being touched and doesn't like the dryer. Yet, every time I bring her there, they work around her silly little quirks and still make her look like a million bucks by the end of the day. Their prices are great and they never over-charge. Plus it's in a great location because there's a coffee shop, bar and restaurant across the street to entertain you while the pooch is getting pampered. read more

I live in the neighborhood right by the Jarvis Redline. Usually I go to petsmart for my dogs needs, at the time. I had a 12 year old black Labrador, 100 lbs of fluff and smiles, unfortunately he had a tumor located on his anus glands. Brought him to petsmart they turned us away instantly, policy they do not help "old dogs with medical issues" I understand that sure, liability issue, but the manager wouldn't give me the time if day, simply said we can't help you, I felt horrible, i cried in the parking lot because all I wanted was my dog to get cleaned maybe a few treats. I walked him in the neighborhood and saw Rogers Bark, loved the name but never went in. So we tried. Walked in and you were instantly amazing. All the oohs and ahhs what a cute Labrador, he's so big, I asked about baths, asked the price, very reasonable. But I was so incredibly nervous to mention of the tumor. One of the groomers noticed blood and that oozing smell, I apologized over and over again explained that he was very sick and only had a few months left, all i wanted was to get him clean. Without any hesitation, all the smiles and head nods you guys gave to me I was ensured that big fluffy black lab was not a problem, he'll smell better than ever, and then some. After that he saw you guys every two weeks for Two months. Neo bled out in April, his tumor ruptured. He had a schedule cleaning that Saturday I called you guys to let you know while choking on tears, Neo passed. You guys were sweet on the phone. 4 days later I received a card, everyone signed, giving your condolences. That was the nicest, caring most unexpected gesture. Months later my husband bought me a puppy, doberman we named him Louis (Louie), to fill the void. I walked him to rogers bark knocked, and you guys were closed, so I walked away, someone came to the door. This nice lady answered, she said she was closed, but asked what I needed, I mentioned getting Louis his nails trimmed, she apologized and said I could if I would, do you go here often with Louis? I explained about the Labrador. She remembered him, I wish I knew your name, but you were sweet. Lovely in fact. Thank you and your staff for writing that card. Staff is great and kind and the dog loved going there, the owner is who became the problem. We came to rely on this business for grooming but all of a sudden we were met with a lot of attitude and an outrageous expectation to a highly frequent and costly grooming regiment and we were dropped like trash because we couldn't commit to it. I find it extremely unprofessional and downright RUDE....it must be nice to have the luxury to be a jerk to your neighbors and have enough business to be too busy, but maybe people just don't know any better. I never wish ill will on people or a business and that is not the intent of this post, but I did nothing wrong to you to treat me that way and its a shame. I like to support local shops but now I can't rely on a in neighborhood groomer because or your behavior and attitude. read more

I took my two bulldogs here on a Friday morning for a nice bath and nail trim. My dogs were so happy, they didn't want to leave! The staff was really sweet to them, and handled them very professionally. The price was reasonable, too! I picked them up about an hour later, and they looked GREAT! Their coats were shiny and soft, they smelled great, and their nails are short and smooth! They wore their bandanas the whole way home! We will definitely be visiting Rogers Bark Pet Salon again soon! read more

Just dropped off the pack for their day of beauty. Rogers's Bark will have them shiny and clean (with their seasonal bandanas) in a few hours. The groomers are always sweet and considerate, placing the codependent ones in the same crate (insert Celine Dion song here) and providing the separate crates for the two that "need their space." After all individual quirks have been reviewed and appropriate beauty products have been selected, I can rest assured that the pack will be as Sex in the City as a group of dogs can be when I pick them up - shampoo and mani-pedi's for four! Worst Grooming Experience EVER. The reason for going here was because our regular groomers mother passed and they would be closed for a while. They suggested we try someone else in their absence. i took a Pomeranian there (second visit, took Shih TSu there previously and will leave separate review for that visit). They badger you about having glands expressed. Different groomers had different versions from they don't do it to you have to have your vet do it. The owner says "you just need to have a conversation with your vet first." Then I asked to have the Pom cut shorter and damn if they didn't go in on that. "you know her hair wont grow back . . We need your written permission to shave." I DIDNT say shave, I said shorter and explicitly said 2" off a 5" length. That is NOT shave. YES, for shaven POMS, the delicate hair follicles take longer to grow back. ITS GETS MUCH WORSE. About 30 min later they call and say " you need to come get Lila immediately.. there is a problem" . . . " Lila has really long nails and she scratched herself". I informed them I was at work and would not be able to get there for an hour. 40 min later they called again and said "we need an eta". WTF I was at work. I get there in 10 min. My POM was in distress, foaming lips and leg bandage from bleeding. The OWNERS explanation "we don't know what happened, but if it were my dog I would go immediately to my vet". I calmly asked what happened. She again, we don't know, but she might have caught her nail in one of our blowers. It was bleeding very badly. I left distraut and angry. Lila was pawing at her mouth. And bubbles on her lips. Fast fwd, 1.5 days later she has lost a large portion of her back tooth/teeth and continues to limp. It appears the paw was severely cut when they clipped the nails (coincidently when I dropped Lila off, they caused a white schnauzer to yip cutting theirs) while I stood there. The limp is improving, but her mouth very, very sore. Will never know the true story. A Owners worst nightmare that their "child" was left unattended, uncared for and suffered multiple injuries. I took her in a happy, healthy, playful dog, now she limps, is still skittish, and has a permanent mouth injury. read more

We lived right down the street from Rogers Bark when we were still in Chicago. This made it convenient, but it happened to be a pretty great place to bring my pooches regardless. My maltese hates being groomed, but they were patient and great with him. The accomodated our requests for different mohawks and always were excited to see him. They clipped nails on the spot and were awesome about accomodating me when I called for an appointment the next day, or even the same day. They are all so friendly and seem to really like what they do. My little guy never loved the experience, but I think they made it as comfortable as they could for him and he always came out looking fabulous! read more

For as long as I've owned my dog, I've been going to Rogers Bark and have no plans to go elsewhere. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and gives the dogs that come in lots of attention. My dog loves the people there so much that, if he notices we're walking near Rogers Bark, he'll start pulling me towards it so we can go in and say hello. They love saying hello to him, and let him have a sample treat just for coming in. The space itself is kept very clean and looks nice. The groomers do a good job, not just of grooming the dogs but of handling them as well. My dog always comes out of there looking sleek as an otter, smelling wonderful and wagging his whole back end because he's so excited and happy. They also carry some upscale pet food, treats, and a few toys and accessories. All of their services are reasonably priced, too. Rogers Bark is a fantastic local business and I hope they stick around for a long time! read more

I lived in Chicago for six years before recently moving away for grad school. I've taken my dog to several different groomers, but Roger's Bark was by far the best. My dog always looked great, the people there were very kind and remembered us after we had gone there a couple of times, the prices were reasonable, and they were also very accomodating. At one point, my dog rolled in goose poop and we had to make an emergency visit to Roger's Bark to get cleaned up. They took her right away and gave her not one, but two baths to get the stink out. It was great. I have yet to find a decent groomer in Champaign, where I moved, and am seriously considering driving two hours back to Chicago to have my dog groomed again when she needs it because I know Rogers Bark will do an awesome job. I love supporting local businesses and Roger's Bark is a winner. Plus, there is the super cute Charmer's Cafe right across the street so after dropping off your pup, you can stop in for coffee and a bagel sandwich! read more
