I ordered takeout from here and I was incredibly disappointed. I ordered this sweet-and-sour pork and it came with fried rice, eggrolls, and hot and sour soup. The eggrolls were great and so is the hot and sour soup, really good. The major complaint I have is it the sweet-and-sour pork was overcooked and had hard pieces of pork. I also didn't get vegetables in my sauce that I asked for on the side, which they did put it on the side, but I'm used to having the pineapple and the bell pepper in my sauce. None of that. For the price that I paid, almost $30, the main course should've been much, much better. I also got no plasticware, which I asked for. No napkins. Just super disappointing for the price. read more

Whenever I see egg foo yong on the menu, I order it. I was very disappointed with their egg foo young. It comes with a light brown gravy that's tasteless and doesn't go with egg foo Young, the egg foo young itself was bland. There aren't too many choices for Chinese restaurants in Oak Forest Garden Oaks. The eggrolls were bland. The owner is nice. The staff are nice. Sometimes you want cheap american chinese food which has typical grease, MSG, soy sauce, oil, and corn starch. You can tell this place does that well based on their menu and easiness of ordering. Portions are large and cheap. I usually do doordash for this when I'm looking for cheap dining options and I'm too lazy to drive out and pick it up myself. I go with the egg rolls, chicken wings, combo lo-mein, and kung pao items whenever I order. I've heard their fried rice is also a treasure as well, nothing crazy but has that greasy flavor that cheap chinese places have that's so hard to replicate. So that'll be my next guilty pleasure when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to drive anywhere. The wings are quite large and crispy. Egg rolls are crispy and greasy. The lo-mein tastes like any chinese lo mein you'd get from one of those cheap buffet places: oily noodles with flavors of soy sauce, chinese 5-spice, and some chili oil mixed in. And you know what to expect from kung pao items with the celery and cashews mixed in with the chicken or shrimp, depending what protein you go with. Not something I typically go for but for cheap american chinese eats that have large portions and are delivered quickly, it satisfies that craving when in the mood for it. read more

I usually get the shrimp fried rice as it is a good meal and enough to fill me up for the day. The lunch special is a little bit of a smaller portion, but it does make for a nice middle of the day meal. I also like the egg rolls and the soup that comes with it; the egg drop soup happens to be my favorite here. There's also other things such as the Mongolian beef, spicy dishes, shrimp with mixed vegetables, chicken dishes, and the list goes on. You have the choice between steamed and fried rice. Hands down best chicken fried rice I've had here in Houston. Second favorite of all time. Can't beat their prices either. Their delivery range is little further than most restaurants and food is still steaming hot after 15-20 minutes! Yum yum, I need fried rice in my tum! We've also tried most of their soups, pork lo mein, chicken lo mein, egg foo young, sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, crab rangoons and egg rolls. Soups are decent, lo meins are in my top 3. Egg rolls not as good as jack in the box, yes I said what I said lol. Don't judge my taste buds, jk. I recommend eastern Chinese though for real! The Eastern is the go to place for consistently good Chinese food near 34th St and Shepherd. Their Won Ton soup is always good and so is the cashew chicken, which I prefer to ask them to make them spicy. Their Won Ton staff is always nice and the searing is comfortable. read more

The rice is Uncle ben's inspired, the selection is as authentic as Taco Bell, and the service is as un pampered as a child that came up in a soviet labor camp. Don't let the unassuming exterior of the building turn you off. We dined in at Eastern Chinese Restaurant and couldn't be happier to have found this place. The woman at the front desk was immediately welcoming and gave us our choice of open booths. The waiter took our drink order and came back pretty quickly to take the rest of our order. We tried the egg rolls and cheese crab as appetizers, both of which hit the spot. I probably could've filled up on just those. Fair warning, if you're used to low-sodium soy sauce, I couldn't see any on any tables, so maybe bring your own or ask the staff if you prefer less salt. I dipped both egg roll and cheese crab wontons in sweet and sour sauce instead. Everything tasted freshly fried. The egg roll filling was a good mix of meat and vegetables. The cheese crab was more cheese than crab, but I wasn't upset because who doesn't like melty cream cheese in a crispy wrapper? For dinner, we tried the sweet and sour chicken and kung po chicken. These orders were HUGE. Next time my fiancé and I will definitely split something or get the dinner order that comes with soup, rice (I think?), and an egg roll. The sweet and sour chicken was perfectly puffy fried and doused in plenty of sauce. The kung po chicken is beautifully spicy with a lot of peanuts and green onion. I don't know if steamed rice comes with the entrees because we asked for some, so be sure to ask just in case. At the end, we had to take to go boxes since each order was so much food. It kept well as leftovers today and my office mates were jealous from the smell. The entire time we were at the restaurant, the dining room had just a few tables filled, but to-go orders were being picked up every few minutes. Despite the bustle of the pickups, the staff was very kind and prompt to get anything we needed. The can of soda and ice tea were $1.35 each. The crab cheese wonton appetizers were wonderful, and cost around $4.25. I was searching for 1960s vintage American Chinese cuisine and found it here. Beef chow mein, moo goo gai pan, and egg fu young complete with brown sauce. I found it here and much to my delight, everything tasted good, seemed freshly prepared, and was a great value. Do not be intimated by the scary looking sign out front. Since it was not the tip that this guy expected he chased after them to their car, had the audacity to ask where his tip was, and then proceeded to curse at her and her sister. I can't believe someone would have the guts to do this. All my MIL can tell me is he was a younger Asian guy and they were there around 2PM today. The portion of the chicken was decent and so was the fried rice. However, the chicken had a little too much fat for my liking and the fried rice was slightly too salty.
