Breaded wings- flavor - hot Lemon pepper Shrimp Fries
    Tei D.

No lie the dining area was very chill. I loved the music. The young lady that waited on me. Pay her more. She was awesome. It was my first time and she was checking on everyone. The food was pretty and had good flavor. The only thing is my mozzarella sticks had no cheese pull. I was about that. Still good flavor though. The wings were breaded but were soggy, because of the sauce. Not sure how. Didn't understand that but nothing my air fryer can't fix. Nice flavor not too hot but my fries were soggy. So I was a lil disappointed about that. Shrimp 10/10. I'd go back to try something else. 2nd time's the charm.

I honestly don't know how to rate this, I ordered three times to assess. My first experience as a wing connoisseur was 20/10 I had the honey hot wings with fries and peach drizzle whew I should have been casted on my 600lb life after that order. It was that good. I ordered a second time and just had the regular fried and it was just decent. Like there was no love in the batter before frying it was like they just dropped the wings whole and fried them. Now both my first and second time it was consistent on the size of the wings- think of wings in Atlanta (the wings Mecca of America) they were nice sized not overly steroid or anything so for me this was the best wings in Houston thus far. Now my third visit I tried sweet chilli and yuck no. It was HORRIBLE. The wings were the size of a fresh newborn fully loaded with steroids and since then I have no returned. The restaurant has the potential it truly does i just don't know when I would return as it was 3 attempts in a matter of 2 weeks.

Hot lemon pepper wings, fried red snapper, fries and greens

I wanted to like this food so bad, but..I passed by the establishment today while in the area and thought ''Oh wings and fish what could go wrong?'' Pros: it's BYOB, so I was excited about that as I came ready ;) Went inside and was surprised to see they offered red snapper as an option for your fish. I chose this because sometimes catfish can be hit or miss with how it tastes. So I ordered the fish and wing combo for $20, with a side of greens. The flavor for my wings were "hot lemon pepper," and I ordered a lemonade since it was fresh. My husband ordered the shrimp and wing combo with the mango habanero sauce. The wait time wasn't long but we did have to ask for plasticware, and when it was brought out it was only a spoon. Somehow I was supposed to eat the greens and fish with a spoon. :/ Jumped into the fries, they weren't bad but not great either, which was honestly a shocker because they looked like home fries. However it just blacked seasoning, and the same with the fish. One filet of fish honestly tasted like catfish and had that muddy water taste. Another part was better, but still lacked flavor. The wings...what lemon pepper sauce? They just tasted like regular buffalo wings. Not to mention it had a fragranted taste like somebody put lotion on their hands and tossed the wings with their bare hands - weird. On a positive note, the greens were good. My husband said his wings were ok - he could hardly taste the habanero. The shrimp he said was salty, but I thought they tasted better than the fish and had more flavor. The establishment has only been open for 2 months I was told and I heard they are doing a grand/soft opening soon. Hopefully some of these logistics will be worked out before then.

I ordered the lemon pepper and my husband got the garlic Parmesan, both were delicious. We will definitely be back.

I wasn't too impressed the first time, and this visit certainly confirmed my initial thoughts. For La Lucha's Happy Hour, you get a choice between 2 types of oysters ($1.50 each). These were great - do this on a weekday before 6pm and you should be able to grab a table without a reservation. Barely even after we started eating the oysters, the waitress was already asking if we wanted to order more, instead of allowing us to just enjoy our food without interruptions. The menus they gave at our table were inconsistent and had different menu items. I had to ask for clarification if the redfish was on the menu since it wasn't on two of the three menus given to us. So, quality control was a miss. Rest of the menu... is limited. Everything was so greasy, from the fried chicken, the redfish, and shrimp tacos. * Red fish with pecans - 6/10. The fish did not taste like it was seasoned with salt. It was well cooked, not dry at all, but it lacked any sort of seasoning aside from the butter and pecans on top. * Shrimp Tacos - 4/10. I think I prefer Taco Bell over this one. The shell was greasy, not crisp (felt like it was stale), and I was confused with the combination of American Cheese and shrimp. They also added hot sauce or spicy salsa in the tacos - so a warning if you can't handle spice (not mentioned on the menu). * Half Fried Chicken - 5/10. The chicken was moist. Been here once before and it was quite dry, so I'm glad this was cooked well. You get 2 thighs, a wing, and a drumstick (4pc). Again, there was a lack of any seasoning on the chicken itself & the exterior. Sadly, the sauce that we picked was not the best either - oyster mayo. It would've been nice to try the others, but the half order came with one sauce. The seasonal jam that was available was the peach jam. It went well with the biscuits (half order comes with 2 biscuits, any extra is $1.50). For my people who get cold in restaurants, I would recommend bringing a light jacket since they turn the A/C up.

Millie's is a popular neighborhood seafood restaurant in Houston's Oak Forest area, known for Southern and coastal-inspired dishes, craft cocktails, and being genuinely family-friendly. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, including patios and a dedicated play area for kids, which already sets them apart. They have private parking spots out front and a large outdoor patio facing the street. We walked in without a reservation and were seated right away. They brought out a high-chair for our son immediately. Inside, the restaurant was busy, but it was a colder morning so the front patio wasn't being used much. They also have a separate backyard patio with a turfed, enclosed area where kids can safely play, which is a huge plus for families. We ordered from the brunch menu. [BRUNCH] +Lobster Roll for $38 - Maine lobster poached in butter, served in a brioche-style lobster bun with fries. My wife ordered this with fries, and I ordered the same dish with a Caesar salad. This lobster roll was excellent. They served the lobster folded into thick Texas toast and brought extra butter on the side. Easily one of the best lobster rolls I've had. It's definitely pricey, but absolutely worth it as an occasional splurge. The fries and salad were good, but the lobster roll completely stole the show. - 5/5 [KID'S MENU] +Basket of Fried Shrimp for $7 - Served with fries or fruit. My son didn't eat much of the shrimp, but I thought it was solid. He ate all the fruit. He had already eaten at home, so hunger may have been a factor. For the price, this was perfectly fine. - 4/5 Overall, Millie's Kitchen & Cocktails really impressed me. The lobster roll alone is worth returning for, and now that I've seen how seafood-forward the menu is, I'm excited to try more dishes on future visits. Add in the family-friendly setup, outdoor play space, and smooth service, and this is a place I'll gladly come back to for brunch (and more)!

The add ons of the various butters and toppings are just the icing on the cake (biscuit?). The restaurant also just has a great vibe and the service was friendly and helpful. What sets the tone in my opinion is the host/hostess unfortunately she didn't set a good one. When…read morewe entered into the restaurant she didn't greet us & her body language made it seem like we were bothering her. I don't require much and I'm easy going so for her to treat us that way is crazy, but you do you. Just thank the hostess for a minus 1 star. Once seated we were greeted by Gigi, she was the total opposite from the hostess. She was kind and energetic, not the most attentive but she was hella busy so I can't blame her for it. I decided to order a handful of items for my friend and I to try. * Sweet tea- delicious southern style tea, wish it could've been a tad sweeter. 4/5 * Not my mama's biscuit- hot, fresh, soft, fluffy, pillowy. The strawberry jam was delicious and homemade. I wasn't a fan of their bacon jam & the honey butter was good. 4.4/5 * Everything gumbo- not the best gumbo I've had but if you brought that to my house for a potluck I'll eat it. Shrimp was seasoned to perfection, sausage okay. 3/5 * Catfish & Fried chicken combo with collard greens- The chicken was fried hard and seasoned nicely. I know for sure they brine that chicken overnight. The meat itself wasn't bland at all. Batter was crispy & had lots of flavor. I would come back just for their chicken. Catfish was also fantastic with a nice cornmeal batter. Fish could've been fried a little harder. Collard greens were vinegary & has some kick to it. They also had bones in the greens which adds more flavor but remember to take them out if you still want your teeth. 4/5 * Blackened catfish with green beans- definitely not my favorite tbh. The tomato-garlic beurre blanc sauce was not it. If you look at the plate all you see is oil. Which made the dish extremely oily. The fish itself was definitely blackened but barely any seasoning. Green beans were also alright & needed to be cooked longer. Once again as I stated in my other reviews, I can't stand when restaurant doesn't cut the ends of the green beans, please cut em. 2.5/5 * H-town hot sandwich with Mac & Cheese- good quality bread, chicken was fried hard with a Viet-Cajun sauce smothered all around it. Mac and cheese was firm just how I like it but taste wise it was just mid. 3.5/5 * Cast Iron peach crumble- a little too sweet for my liking, but I do like that they added salt to balance out the sweetness. The pecans adds texture to this dessert but I can do without it. 4/5. Overall, the food was a 4, Gigi was fantastic and the other staff I've interacted were great, but yall thank the hostess once again for that minus one. Even though the food was only a 4/5, if she was fake nice to us I would've given this place a 5. Sometimes you gotta fake it till you make it but she didn't even hide the fact that she didn't want us there. Will I come back? Heck yeah, the fried chicken is legit good. By the way, there are a whole bunch of reviews combining with google/yelp that the hostess is rude. She's hurting the business, she just lucked out that I'm nice enough not to give less than 3 stars based on her customer service.
