The bath towels are plush and blue, rather than the usual institutional white. The bedspreads have georgeous patterns and the mattresses are comfortable. There are no motel cleaner and perfume smells. One can bring the car right up to the front door, making unloading and loading a breeze. On the downside: Our cabin was small, not a lot of space to move around. There was some traffic noise from highway 395 which abated overnight. The place had a friendly vibe of cyclists, hikers, and outdoorsy folks. We will be back!

The AC absolutely cranks, which was heaven after being out in the heat all day. The owners have added so many thoughtful touches: toothbrushes, single-use toothpaste, makeup remover wipes, bath gels, plus a mini fridge and microwave in the room. When I checked in, I was greeted with bottled water, fruit, and cookies, such a kind welcome after a long day. There are also cute patios with hanging lights where you can sit and eat takeout, and there's even a homemade ice cream shop right next door with a really vibey outdoor patio. One of the owners mentioned a nearby trail just behind the motel, and I'm so glad I listened. I ended up walking through the beautiful Mary DeDecker native plant garden alongside a babbling creek with little bridges and an incredible sunset view over the mountain ridge. It turned into one of the highlights of my trip. This place may not look like much from the outside, but it has heart, kindness, and everything you actually need for a peaceful stay.

Great place to stay here for a day or two while you are on your adventure hiking trip to Mount Whitney and Death Valley National Park. But beware; winters are chilly and summers are scorching!

They made an error during our check in and I was not happy about it. The front desk agent called me while we were out for dinner and had it corrected. First issue, they are renovating the first floor for which I have no issue. The problem? You need to post that online BEFORE folks make reservations. I have mobility issues and there is no elevator. I had to drag my heavy luggage up narrow stairs...very painful. Second issue, problems with their key cards...lots of trouble getting into my room with the digital key cards. Very frustrating. Third issue: their pool is closed in the middle of the hot summer. Post that online BEFORE folks visit and book on your website! Even if it's only temporarily closed. Fourth issue, the water was turned off for over 2 hours during the middle of the day for maintenance. Very inconvenient! Lone Pine is a beautiful little town with charming restaurants but not sure if I can recommend this hotel based on my most recent experience.

carne asada fries here were so delicious. i'm from los angeles and i gotta say they did it so well…read morefor being a little mountain resort restaurant. i loved the contrast of the creamy green cilantro crema with the red chipotle crema on the perfectly tender carne asada, which i'm pretty sure was meat from the famed harris ranch of california. the fries were so perfectly crisp and the beans, cheese, etc all complemented the flavors so nicely. we also tried the apple and berry pie. it was well done as well, got one slice a la mode with icecream :). the workers here are so nice and personable. real friendly people, we loved this young man i forget his name but he was from georgia or something. they sell a lot of cute souvenirs in here such as apparel, candles, postcards and stickers branded with mineral king. they also sell backpackers dehydrated meals and little toiletries and drugs you may have forgotten. always make a trip here when i'm around. love it. they also have showers attached to the bathroom and you could just walk in and take a shower after a lil hike ?? maybe :)

It's also in one of the most beautiful area of the country that has limited options for lodging - they did great. Plus they have adopted a stray chicken.

REVIEW FOR SHOWERS ONLY - rest of place looks good…read more Two of us took showers. In mine, there was no place to put clothes except 2 tiny, small shaky hooks on door and wall. No floor mat; no bench (a must); no place to put towel; no place to put clean clothes; no place to put anything; floor all wet after shower (bare feet on god-knows-what). Shower aimed at open curtain so HAD to get into shower lest everything got sprayed before temperature was adjusted. After shower, ZERO ventilation so worse than a sauna - instant sweat. Also, HIGHEST price of all options along Hwy 395. Other person said her shower was awful - water never mixed/adjusted. It was either all hot or all cold water. BAD plumbing. Outside the showers, in mixed-gender area, plenty of room after shower. But zero privacy so had to undress/dress in tiny shower cubicle (about 2x3ft space). MUCH BETTER SHOWER at Mammoth - "Camp High Sierra" ... very pleasant and spacious BUT have to drive almost 2 hours just to get there.
